Hitler was a little German guy, actually I believe of Austrian descent (you can correct me if I am wrong), quite insane who had a small moustache, flattened down oily hair, spoke fluent german but screamed a lot, and was able to persuade thousands of his countrymen that it was ok to try and take over the world. Saddam Hussein was taller, heavier I believe, had bushy hair and sometimes a beard, did not speak german fluently as far as I know, and was not able to persuade thousands of his countrymen it was ok to take over the world. I do think he was just a tad bit like Hitler though as both obviuosly had toys in the attack (or is that devils in the attack)? In any case, I'm no historian, not even a Secretary of State, but I can certainly distinguish the vast differences between the two, and would think myself quite foolish for trying to make a comparison.
"The people of England have been led in Mesopotamia into a trap from which it will be hard to escape with dignity and honor. They have been tricked into it by a steady withholding of information. The Baghdad communiques are belated, insincere, incomplete. Things have been far worse than we have been told, our administration more bloody and inefficient than the public knows. It is a disgrace to our imperial record, and may soon be too inflamed for any ordinary cure. We are today not far from a disaster." -- T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia)"Report on Mesopotamia" The Sunday Times (22 August 1920) "History does not repeat itself. But it does rhyme." -- Mark Twain
Another awesome special comment. Keep up the good work.
It is really a great suprise that a member of this administration attempts to rewrite history to justify their agenda? If one were a true student of history, they actually would find more ironic the actions and words of this administration and the words and actions of the regiem in Germany prior to WW II. Do not take what I am saying wrong, I am not in any way calling bush another Hitler, only thinking of the way that many of the actions and words are, and have been similar. Perhaps the administration will at some point open their eyes and realize that they are accountable to the citizens of this nation. Let's hope it is before it is too late to save our nation!
I agree keith, rice is far off in the comparison with hitler. Hitler seeked power in all over europe. Everyone points out how saddam invaded kuwait because he did it alone. But, no one ever points out how he invaded iran. because, the US helped him. the US and saddam were allies against iran. Saddam was insane, no doubt about that, but, why in all these 13 years, didnt he invade near-by countries such as qatar, UAE or bahrain, since they are flooded with oil.
Okay, great, everybody, let's band together and make a big stink about comparing one genocidal maniac to another genocidal maniac (study up before you try and refute that claim). Let's just move right on ahead to the next step and force everyone who makes a hitler/nazi comparison for political purposes to justify and rationalize the comparison. No, that would never work, because if everything was justified and rational AMERICAN POLITICS WOULD FREEZE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE!!! Let's grow up and focus on some real issues here, ignorant republicans and naive liberals alike.
Keith you give me sanity and I love the way your news is giving to us. I love the true of your news and my favorite is the worst person in the world!
Travis, Idaho: I understand and agree with what you say. But if we were to keep american politics from freezing up now and then, that you correctly define as irrational and often without justification, then how would we get any rational mature movement on real issues from these ignorant republicans and naive liberals. Don't you think that our elected representatives owe us some rational justification for their comments and decisions, and how they arrived at the same. Or do we just take their word for it and assume they are always right whether based on rational justification or not. Is this not how we got into this stupid war in the first place. Because the majority of us just assumed this war was the right thing to do because our President exercised rational thinking. Sometimes sticking a frozen rod up their rear ends from time to time awakens them to reality. And they may just exercise rational thinking for a short time and really accomplish something. This critique by Keith and others on Condi Rice who irrationally compared Saddam to Hitler is just one of those frozen rods. It is interesting that after having many frozen rods placed up their rears lately the Bush administration has now agreed to join in talks with Syria and Iran regarding the stabilization of Iraq. Without such rods, this would not have been accomplished.
O.K. -- The President compared the Iraq quagmire with the American Revolution; Condi compared it to World War II. What is left for Cheney and Gates? Vietnam? The Civil War? Nah, too close to reality. Maybe a crusade? Armageddon?
Your show is a breath of fresh air in this stink that we are in right now. I always look forward to your special commentary. I am so glad that someone is brave enough to point out the folly of this administration. You are articulating what every good journalist should be doing. Please keep up the great work you are doing. It was great to learn that your contract was extended for another four years. It should be for another 40 years. The fact that you are knowlegeable in baseball makes you more special.
Republicans in my Navy town Pensacola say we Libruls want America to fail, we think like the Islamists. I want to say this. Liberal Democrats know the difference between killing Al Quada in Afghanistan and Bin Laden for 9-11 and three former Big Oil employees, Bush, Cheney and Rice invading a sovereign state to control its oil reserve. The Iraqi Parliament voted on the New Oil Law this week allowing Western Big Oil execs to sit on a committee responsible for allowing and disallowing oil contracts and therefore reconfiguring OPEC for unaccountable riches. Unfortunately, Republicans are missing the portion of the cerebral cortex which tells them they can't shoot residents of a foreign country dead in the streets just because they hate our guts for invading them to steal their oil, which was signed over to us this week if you can read. How's the oil in our new colony taste? Swish some around in your jowels. Once we aged our new oil colony for a few decades while they murder Americans around the planet, the oil might not taste so much like the blood of dead American G.I.'s slaughtered for wealth.
Please indulge my ignorance, but just so I understand, once and for all. Why can't we get the UN forces into Bagdad, pull our troops back into their forts and put Blue helmets on any US troops on the streets there? Demand the UN do this or kick them, the hell out of the US. PS I'm a supporter of the UN. PSS I know this has nothing to do with Adolf Hitler.
