Keith I have bees trying to get the Kelly Kenndy article into the right hands all day and was so happy you picked this up for your show. the subcommittee oversight hearing is scheduled for Monday March 5 at WR. No time yet. Look for these outspoken vets to be in x-ray, or the lab, or PT, or Ct or the basement in a closet with tape over their mouths. the Army and its officers will find 'other business' for them.
does anybody have a link to a video or transcript of the Gov. Perdue introduction of Bush at the governor's assoc. meeting that was reported by KO? it was freakin' hilarious!
Why is it so difficult for the Democratic Party representatives to stand up and say that they will no longer fund a war that is doing nothing but kill american troops? Why does the party in power in the Congress continue to be an enabler to an obivious misguided policy in the Middle East envision by this lame duck in the White House? Prez Bush has already called us deafocrats, the party of cut and run, supporters of terror......enough of this waving the bloody red shirt of patriotism by the cowards in the White House. Flat out tell the President "You want to continue to kill americans for your ego then you arent doing it with our money!"
I want to send this to all my friends. It is so truthful that it is funny!Does anybody have a link to a video or transcript of the Gov. Perdue introduction of Bush at the governor's assoc. meeting that was reported by KO?
I thought the silver for WPITW was a tiny bit weak. Yesterday I read about Nicole Uribe (use the Google), who traded her 5-month-old baby for a down payment on a car. I felt SURE she was going to be on the list! Otherwise, great show. My favorite story was the "an unnamed vice-president spoke" bit.
Just looking out my office window, watching the JFK Carrier being turned around, in its final days after 40 years. It sure is beautiful. John F. Kennedy. After the last dreadful six years, sometimes it seems to me that the only way we can look ahead is to look back, something Mr. Olbermann does frequently. Thanks Keith. Because of your passion, intelligence and humor, Countdown is the best newscast in the country.
Thank you for doing the torture story at number one...you guys rule!!
Keith, much love to you, but I think you're over-doing the "24" thing. The same thing could be said about James Bond, and the books of James Ellroy. If Kiefer Sutherland wants to go to West Point to remind people that it's only a show, kudos to him. Very few people are ever so influenced by a media program that they would go beyond the moral bounds that have been set for them by their upbringing and habits. It takes far more psychological manipulation for that to occur, a la Milgram, or Santini. Those who would go overboard are likely the types that would have gone overboard even if television didn't exist, namely they'd be the first berserker off the boat to pillage.
I agree with Rob about the treatment of '24.' I think that a differentiation needs to be drawn between the drama/entertainment of '24' and the politicizing of it by those who would leverage an agenda (ie, Joel Surnow who claims that the storyline of '24' is what the world will soon be like). The fact that he would politicize the subject matter of the show is what should be dragged out on the mat and put under the harsh light of scrutiny. Keith, you talk about how the democrats have bought into the talking points of the republicans by not challenging the usage of the term 'wasted' as a taboo descriptor of the usage of the troops... but by attacking the show itself rather than the politicization of it (and the POV that that politicization seeks to advance) you are buying into Surnow's pronouncement that '24' is a realistic depiction of what the world will look like. No. '24' is fiction. It is not made more real by Surnow's belief and political stance. I would say don't let Surnow dictate the reality of the show; just attack his belief that the show depicts some sort of reality AT ALL.
With regards to the horrid FOX 24 show, "Seven Days In May" was one of my favorite "REQUIRED" readings in high school, in addition to the movie release. The movie made me proud of our Constitution, as President Jordan Lyman displayed such courage in his efforts at bringing peace during the Cold War. The "GENERAL", a.k.a. present-day President Bush & Company, was ultimately taken down by a PRESIDENT who not only defended the Constitution of this country; he recognized how precious it is. Ultimately, the one-track mind of the General (LIKE FOX NEWS' SUPPORT OF GEORGE W. BUSH), who attempted a military coup to take over of the United States, was foiled by brave men who UNDERSTOOD just how precious our Constitution was (and still is)!! The "PRESIDENT" portrayed in this book/movie made me proud as a teenager, and still today. For he was WILLING to both speak with and engage "the enemy" during the Cold War. His efforts at achieving peace by peaceful means, or AT LEAST ATTEMPTING TO, by peaceful means, made me feel so safe at a young age. Sadly, the actions of George W. Bush over the last six years is likened to the General, who thought he could AND should circumvent the Constitution and destroy the three legislatures of government. He, like George W. Bush & Company, did this by instilling fear. By instilling FALSE FEAR IN THE PSYCHE OF AMERICANS, as Bush AND FOX NEWS has done, I say, SHAME ON YOU GEORGE W. BUSH, and your EMPLOYEE, FOX NEWS!!
I personally are more concerned about the shout-fests, and the misinformation that is disseminated therin (namely Foley is a Democrat and any other number of outrages). The audience that watches those is comparatively more likely to act affirmatively in a misguided way, based on the misrepresentations made to them. The "24" audience is likely to do little more than harshly interrogate a microwave burrito during commercial breaks.
I'd like to see a Gore / Obama ticket. Both strike me as highly intelligent, and Al Gore sure makes up for any so called "lack of experience" on Obama's part. I and think these two might work very well together, and would bring a wealth of innovation and reality to America. I see K.O. as the press secretary. :-) I'm from Canada, and I have to say that the USA seems very schizoid. Your produce incredible science, technology, art, literature, music (I'm a musician, 5-string banjo picker, who loves rock and roll and blues ... none of those were invented where I come from)... and yet you have for a century had some of the most imperialist boneheaded foreign policy(s) imaginable. Perhaps this is just the natural course of events if you've always dealt from a position of power and it's "my way or the highway" ... you never have to become particularly skillful. I think the two (three :-) men I mentioned above strike me as very skillful indeed.
