So here it is. Covering the big news, the small news, medium-sized and irregular, The News Hole strives to bring everything you love or hate about Countdown to the internets.

Bias for Dummies

Fox Noise Channel is pretending to be a news organization again....

See, what was needed here was a fourth choice:

a) Good Idea
b) Bad Idea
c) Don't Know
d) Holy crap! Are you really this stupid?! I mean, do you really think she was serious about that, or are you trying to pull something here? I think she might have been 'joshing about.' And doesn't the guy who sings
"Home with the Armadillo" already hold the positon of "Ambassador to the World?" What do we do with him? Who exactly is calling again?

More on this tonight. Oh yes... much more.

Hmmm...do I smell WPITW material?
Mr Olbermann, You have a variety of interesting topics on your show and in your website, but I am really turned off by the snide way you present the information. To me, that puts you in the same category as Ann Coulter, Rush, Bill Marrs, Rosie, etc. I am no fan of name calling other networks like the "Fox Noise Channel" either. Its fine to criticize, but don't be nasty about it. Even though I consider myself a political moderate on most issues, I really think that Bill O'Reilly is much more civil and fair to his opposition than you are. He is certainly tough on people, but he does not take the cheap shots like I see you doing. I am sure you disagree, but my feelings are shared by a lot of people.
Steve Fikar, Shalimar, FL - Just what planet do these people "my feelings are shared by a lot of people" live on? Bill O'Reilly yells over his "guests", throws them off his set, cuts off their mics in mid-sentence, consistently interrupts them, and tells them to "SHUT UP"!! Keith Olbermann always a.) thanks his "guests" prior to the question/answer session; b.) never interrupts them; c.) allows them to finish several sentences unlike O'Reilly who allows them perhaps three syllables before his rants; d.) always thanks them for their "time". Where do you live?? Please tell me!! Bill O'Reilly calls people like me a "liberal loon", and in the same sentence states "fox is never irresponsible and reports things fairly on both sides". Yeah, and I personally believe Bill O'Reilly has a spiked Kool-Aide problem. I'm not sure which Keith Olbermann or Bill O'Reilly you are watching, but I am sure you are not watching them from PLANET EARTH!!
One solid vote and a reputed bunch of maybe's for O'Reilly's Sainthood. Now all he needs is to pull of a Miracle out of his Poop Chute, and no, making the Numb, Deaf, doesn't count. He might have a shot as the Patron Saint of Liars, though, since you can fake a Miracle for that one.
Keith, this is really too much!! I can't stop laughing!! I also feel very bad for any IDIOT that would actually believe Hillary would appoint Bill as "Ambassador to the World" via the "fair and balanced" Fox News channel. I use the word "news" loosely. I'm not sure which is worse - Fox News for stating this or the IDIOTS who will believe it. I know there are people "out there" so to speak who would genuinely believe just a ridiculous thing. I'm sorry Keith, I just can't go on...I'm laughing way to much to continue typing....THANKS!!
Well, just another day at the office for the ol' Ministry of Truth... Eric Blair would be proud.
Pam: Here is the breakdown of the "idiots" From the Fox poll final question: POLITICAL IDENTIFICATION: When you think about politics, do you think of yourself as a Democrat or a Republican? Democrats 43%, Republicans 35%, Independents 16%
KAK, Chicago, IL - Thanks, I think?? However, this is a very vague question to put it nicely. Specific issues need to be addressed and multiple questions asked, then answers must be cross-referenced to get any real scientific poll data. Yes, they are IDIOTS at Fox News (I also feel very slimy putting the word "news" after Fox)!!
KAK, speaking of political breakdown: Pew just did a survey where 50% of people identified themselves as Democrats. Now it's true that historically this is the case, but these are major jumps, just 5 years ago the parties were neck and neck. Anyway, it's incredibly interesting that FNC is polling on themselves, it's nice to see that my own intuition wasn't just me being a 'liberal loon,' other loons agree. ;)
My goodness, I had a good laugh on that one!! Don't journalists go to some school to learn fact from opinion (or fiction)?? Oh wait, maybe some of them went to Pat Robertson Law School! haha Thanks for the heads up, Keith.
Bill Clinon would make an excellent ambassador to the world, head of the UN or President of the United States again.
Proof once more that "Fox News", like "reality TV", is an oxymoron.
For a little perspective on Fox News' tactics, compare them to intellectually honest conservatives - like William F. Buckley, or maybe John McLaughlin (who demonstrates that you can be more or less fair, even in a shouting situation). Even though I often disagreed with Buckley, I never felt he was either insulting my intelligence or trying to manipulate (and encourage) bias and prejudice. Same with Mr. McLaughlin. I doubt anyone can imagine either of them participating in the sort of cheap shot, below-the-belt tactics of O'Reilly (and alas, of Mr. Beck at CNN).
I say we keep throwing this kinda stuff at FOX noise. If they want to argue these lame talking points, let 'em stroke themselves out over it.
Yeah, Billo does yell over his guests and break in on every third word with his rants, but so does someone a lot closer to home, y'all--Tucker Carlson. I've been agitating for Top Cat to be banished to Fox Noise, but then I realized that among that bunch of maniacs TC would be totally superfluous and soon unemployed. Isn't there some other way to get to watch Willie Geist other than watching Tucker, whose bad manners and bad ties have driven me off more than once? PS yeah I know Chris Matthews flunked out of charm school too, but at least he's more politically savvy than Top Cat. That's why I put up with Matthews.
I'd like to see Bill Clinton and Stephen Lewis (a Canadian who has been Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations and Secretary-General's Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa) in charge of the UN. Both are very tough and smart, and might be able to make that organization, which in theory at least seems like a very good idea, work well. As for, the "K.O. Kid" (meant as a compliment I assure you), he is one of the best TV reporters alive. It's so refreshing to listen to a news anchor who is smart.
Hmmm, let me see, send a truly gifted and intelligent ex-president to the U.N. as an ambassador, gee, I don't know. What if he tried to get oral sex from an interpreter,(like I really care). I'm sure the folks at Focks Gnus could get extra viewer points and bigger ad bucks from the RNC to whip us all into righteous indignation over that appointment. After all, that story would be much more newsworthy than say a story about somtehing as trivial a lying, conniving, blundering, moronic puppet, aching for a real impeachment over real crimes and misdemeanors. Naw, couldn't happen. Folks are too smart to vote for someone like that. And besides, we would have the experience of sean there to give us the truth in a cronkite way, wouldn't we? Say, if we continue to flood the folks at Focks Gnus with juicy tidbits like that, then maybe they could become even more marginalized and self deluded than ever before. It could be the next wave of reality tv. Just think, we can watch ann perch on bill's shoulder, as they pay homage to buddah rush, while the 65 year old beltway "boys" lead a cheering section, led by the bandleader wearing the texaco star. Calling Fox a news channel is like calling my mom's one apple tree an orchard, saying it don't make it so.
Rodney-Lake Charles: At least you could buy your mother another apple tree so that she has two. She might be happy with another apple tree. It would still not qualify as an orchard or Fox as a news channel, and you would be a hero to your mom, unless of course she is a Fox fan. Then you have other issues.
I also find it interesting that Republicans had %101...
I always thought there was no more important job than being a newspaperman. I am one and I still believe it. To me, what could be more important than being entrusted with providing hard news people can use to affect their daily lives in an objective, accurate, timely fashion. That's essentially it. It is what we as print journalists are tasked with creating as professionals. Fox and many others are not journalists but rather imposters who have infiltrated my profession for entertainment. What is most important is to remember MOST media do not lie to you, they editorialize through story selection. It is not difficult to tell the truth and provide specific attribution for sources but selective truth telling is the key to newspapers following political corporate guidelines. For instance, the New York Times didn't report its police spying on innocents before the GOP convention or the fact Americans sold the weapons to Saddam he was charged with using to murder the Kurds and their kids. Selective truth telling. What is so important that corporate editorialists demand it not be printed? The New Oil Law in Iraq has barely seen the light of day because it enriches the corporate Big Oil sponsors of the Iraq War against a sovereign state and Chevron-Texaco hiring mercenaries to murder Nigerian protestors who accessed their rigs in the Nigerian Delta in 2002 was only reported by Amy Goodman and Democracy Now. The Nigerians live within the shadows of the rigs with no potable water or electricity. Their group is called MEND and you can read about their plight on Nigerian newspapers on the internet in English. Read what your Big Oil companies are doing in your name overseas to harvest the oil Fox News are not journalists, but Republican entertainers, not unlike Beck whose job is to espouse conservative values. It has nothing to do with objective print or broadcast journalism and never will. It is a syphilis in my profession but rest assured there are good newspapermen among us and they carry the Canons of Journalism in high regard. You have to search to find them and this is regrettable because truth telling is fundamental to keeping our republic.
Has Keith and MSNBC become report on FOX NEWS network. Keith, you having trouble finding the news on your own? Trying doing some work for yourself.
Did anyone happen to notice that the percentages for Republicans add up to 101%? Can't Fox Noise do simple mathmatical functions? Come to think of it, very little they present adds up!
Let's blame this whole mess, yellow journalism, inventing news, superheated rhetoric, 15 minutes of fame, talking heads, the inability to read, dis-use of rational thinking, mis-use of public trust on the airways, on the true culprits of all that is wrong with America. Wall Street "shareholders". Because cap and trade is good for dividends, not air quality. Because busted unions and a two-tier economic society is good for revenue sharing, not sustaining the middle class born of unionism. Because the stock won't split if Medicare (i.e. our federal government) can haggle over drug prices. Because bill-o would have to pass on the price increase of his goodies if trade policy was dictated by someoene other than our 21st century robber barons. Every time someone with a decent motive and a pasable idea comes along to show us how and why we must preserve and protect our freedoms, our resources, our living standards, and our way of life, these nutballs calling themselves fair and balanced do their best to insure that "shareholder" concerns get top billing. No spin zone my dyin ass.
