Press the death toll on the Virginia Tech campus has risen to 31.
Update: NBC NEWS HAS LEARNED...
Investigators say they're having trouble making a positive identification on the young man who carried out today's Virginia Tech shooting. He carried no identification or cell phone, and an initial check on his fingerprints has turned up nothing.
Complicating the effort is that when he shot himself, he disfigured his face, making it hard to recognize him or match him to a picture.
Update: 33 DEAD
Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger says at least 33 dead in the shooting.
Update: GONZALES HEARING POSTPONED
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate Judiciary Committee has postponed its Tuesday hearing with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales because of the Virginia Tech shootings.
Update: STATE OF EMERGENCY
RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today declared a state of emergency in the Commonwealth of Virginia, directing state agencies to take all necessary actions to aid in the response and recovery following today's shootings at Virginia Tech.

"NOTHING TO HIDE" Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, fighting to
save his job, said in prepared Senate testimony Sunday he has "nothing
to hide" in the firings of eight federal prosecutors but claimed a hazy
memory about his involvement in them.Two
Republican senators said Gonzales has yet to shore up his credibility
amid shifting explanations of his role in the dismissals. Vice
President Dick Cheney reaffirmed White House support for the attorney
general - but left it to Gonzales to defend himself to lawmakers who
have called for his resignation.

Former U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was fired after Sen. Pete Domenici,
who had been unhappy with Iglesias for some time, made a personal
appeal to the White House, the Journal has learned.
WOLFOWITZ WON'T GO QUIETLY World Bank President Paul D. Wolfowitz (seen here licking his comb, and seen here with holes in his socks) personally dictated the terms
under which the bank gave what it called his "domestic partner"
substantial pay raises and promotions in exchange for temporarily
leaving her job there during his tenure, according to documents
released by the bank's executive board yesterday.
HOPE YOU DIDN'T CHEAT "Middle-class Americans, listen up: the I.R.S. is much more likely to
audit you this year, says The New York Times. Since 2000, authorities at the Internal Revenue Service have nearly tripled audits of tax returns filed by people making
$25,000 to $100,000 as part of a broad change in audit strategy.
