"Rather than a reasoned discussion — rather than a political campaign advocating your own causes and extolling your own qualifications — you have bypassed all the intermediate steps and moved directly to trying to terrorize the electorate into viewing a vote for a Democrat, not as a reasonable alternative and an inalienable right ... but as an act of suicide."

Hoorah! One of the best commentaries I have heard. Keith is hard hitting, honest and unafraid to tell it like it is. We need much more of this kind of analysis and publication. We've had enough of fear and deceit from our elected officials. Keith's commentary is an excellent wake up call to us all.
As an American, not a republican, not a democrat, but as someone who believes honest and fair debate is the cornerstone to our freedoms, thank you for making an eloquent and much needed point.
Keith, thank you for finally exposing Rudy Giuliani for the incompetent, lying, self-serving idiot he is!! I have stated and written multiple times that his insistence on putting the “Command & Control” center inside the World Trade Center, after the attack of 1993, was not only self-serving, it was dangerous and asinine. He was told repeatedly advised by counter-terrorism experts that the results of such a decision could be catastrophic, and they were!! Also, the real reason why he was seemingly everywhere and at the same time at the “center of attention” on the tragic day of September 11, 2001, was BECAUSE he irresponsibly advocated for, and insisted upon the Command & Control Center being located inside the World Trade Center. This man is not only a self-absorbed moron; his irresponsible decision resulted in chaotic emergency communications, in addition to communication failures on that tragic day. This ultimately led to more deaths. This man was a “marginal” mayor at best, and that’s being kind. However, after the stunts he pulled both prior to the attacks and after, he is an utter disgrace. When I hear the words “America’s Mayor” associated with his name, I literally want to vomit. Nothing could be further from the truth. Thanks again Keith, for not only exposing and confirming what I have “attempted” to tell so many “loyal Giuliani’s” for so long to no avail, in addition to revealing the jerk’s SOILED laundry list of despicable words, in conjunction with his utterly despicable fear mongering attempts. In addition, great job on enlightening the American public of his utter incompetence. K – U – D – O – S to you sir!!
Right on Pam: I have tried to be diplomatic and stay away from the Rudy issue except for a small comment made previusly. But his use of this particular scare tactic sickens me even though I understand scare tactics are used on both sides. I hope Keith stays on this guy day in and day out. He is dangerous and should in no way in hell be President of anything.
Ah... but it doesn’t quite work that way C A of Tuscaloosa, Al. A one-way ticket for a complete foreigner with no job prospects would put me at a complete disadvantage, which is why I haven’t already signed up. Make it a full, “seamless” transition to a major Russian city like MOSCOW, say, and I’m there! I have a funny feeling there’ll be more than a few “political refugees” hot on my trail. Russia may not be the ideal or even the preferred place for such scientific, intellectual, and political refugees fleeing “A-M-E-R-I-C-A” but I would choose it foremost to make the point. …our biggest former adversary -- the past embodiment of all that we are now becoming -- who are now doing better than we are. Both of our democracies are shrinking, but one is shrinking to protect the sovereignty of its people, while the other is being drained away by neocons who only want ABSOLUTE POWER for themselves. How dare people like the Secretary of State “brush off” a congressional subpoena! How dare the Attorney General (the top LEGAL person in the country) politely say he doesn’t remember SEVENTY ONE TIMES! How dare the Democrats pull the wording from their new bill expressly prohibiting an attack on IRAN as if that was part of the original war authorization! Trust me, you can keep this little dreamland, warmongering, self-righteous system that once really was worth fighting for. To be a part of TYRANY as it stands now is not right and I’ll gladly take my first TRUE opportunity to abandon this miserable, self-consuming sinking ship! Just remember as Hillary or Rudy go off on yet another crusade to invade IRAN at the behest of the Israeli lobby that they neither have been suffering from a 15-year arms embargo, nor have any internal divisions like Iraq had. They won't have anyone in their crosshairs except the supposed "liberators" and If American thought it knew what war was, it is in for a rather rude awakening. GOOD BYE and GOOD LUCK!
Thank you Pammie , maybe you should be running for President, You have all the freaking answers , you know it all - including I presume that identifying mark that Clinton is most proud of. Everyone on my side is a moronic liar , everyone on your side has a freaking IQ over 200. I don't understand one thing though. If everyone on you side is so smart and "W" is such a moron... why did they vote for the war. How could such an imbecile fool all of you guys. If you are so gullable that "W" could fool you, how can I trust you engaging all of the real evil in the world. Did you not even look at the intelligence report ? Maybe you just didn't understand it ? Maybe you just didn't care. Or maybe, just maybe, you can't take responsibility for your vote. It was politically ok then, not so cool being a lib now. Any way you slice it , all of those who voted for the war under the same pretenses are guilty
Thank you, Thank you Thank you for telling it like it is! Except for your bright light in a sea of darkness, comments such as the former Mayor's would be taken at face value. We have suffered too long under Republican intimadation.
Keith's passion and conviction are awe inspiring. He truly honored the memory of Murrow with his sign off last night. I find it interesting that the posts disagreeing with Keith have a common thread of "we aren't the only ones who do that". As if that makes fear mongering acceptable. You go ahead and live your sheltered life, afraid of the world that is around you. Afraid of invisible enemies, bad language, people's sexuality, and the boogie man. Afraid that what you want to believe just might not be true, and may not be what I choose to believe. You go ahead and live that life, but don't for a moment assume that just because "it has always been that way", means that I, or Keith or anyone else who agrees with us has to just accept it (all due respect to Mr. Olbermann for lumping him into a sentence with me as if we are aquainted in any way, but you get the point). A change is needed in the political spectrum of this country, and I refuse to let the 30% of this country who support more of the same from a failed administration be the reason it can't happen. Thank you Keith and everyone else writing away every day for "Countdown". Your show actually makes it fun to be this pissed off!
Loved this comment re Giuliani. Almost as good as your comment re Bush's "it is wrong to think" statement. That one, no doubt, incurred criticism for focussing on only one portion of Mr. Bush's statement. IMO, that was THE critical part. Thank you so much.
In re to your 4/25/07 commentary on Rudy, thank you so much. Why can't other commentators tell us the truth, not only about politicians but on the corrupt media freaks at FOX and idiots on talk radio? Keep up the good work. We need you more than you'll ever know.
Keith, and for those that agree with your position, I say this: I FEAR NOT! Fear qua terror is nothing more than a weapon used by those seeking to have or maintain power to destroy that which they themselves fear: free will. One need not look further than a history book to see the result of fearmongering. For example, Napoleon, Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Henry VIII, George III, and countless others all failed in the end. Why? Free will and liberty trumps fear. Therefore, those of us liberty loving individuals (who outnumber fearmongers) must stand up once again like our ancestors and proclaim "WE FEAR NOT!"
Wow Chris: Hey, if you want me to fund your travels and find you a job and a place to live and all that don't be so mad at me. I never said I disagreed with you about the path our elected officials are taking us down, regardless which side of the aisle. But hey, I still would prefer a south sea island where there are some little island girl honeys to take care of us.
Pam, show a little mercy to Larry, you've got him foaming at the mouth and chasing his tail.
Yes, Guiliani is creating fear. Fear in the hearts of liberals and anger because he speaks the truth. Unlike Bush he is articulate and the American people may just listen to him, that is something to fear.
Keith, Absolutely fantastic! You are truly a voice in the wilderness!! Don't let up don't ever let up! Keep talking truth to power for as long as you can! I have two questions fo you sir. 1)Who will you be outraged by when the Democrats are in power? 2)I read a recent magazine piece on you that stated you don't vote. Why not Keith?
Guiliani made a stupid mistake with that statement. The reality is, Republicans may sort of support him, but he will need the support of moderate Democrats to win the Presidency. This will drive those moderates away. Many Democrats have listened to this junk now for almost thirty years and it is loosing its punch. People look at the number of attacks under Clinton and then under Bush and wonder why Bush has seen more attacks world wide than Clinton, if Clinton was suppose to be so bad for national security. Having more bombs, guns, soldiers and tanks does not make one safe. Clinton invested in police, boarder patrol and coast guard. He had the FBI cooperate with Europol and Interpol. This made it hard for the terrorists to opperate. Bush has taken from police and the related services in order to bolster an over bloated and ineffective military, and that was even before 11 September. Guiliani made a mistake by pushing away Democrats. He may find himself struggling down the road.
Keith, Absolutely fantastic! You are truly a voice in the wilderness!! Don't let up don't ever let up! Keep talking truth to power for as long as you can! Larry from Charleston Maybe the votes were there because it is hard to imagine an administration that incompetent and immoral. What did Bush get right about Iraq except that Saddam was a piece of crap? NOthing. And why has Bin Laden had a pass for the last three years? And as far as Giuliani -- He chose NOT to perosnally defend the US but rather to whoremonger in office and permit sadistic rapes and killings by the NYPD under his authority. I have to ask what we can believe from the CIC right now -- can we believe his intel? No. Can we believe the stories about combat deaths and injuries? No. Can we believe that he did not obstruct justice and cause attorneys like Alberto Gonzalez and Monica Goodling to commit unethical acts? NO. Did Bush perform any ordered duty for the last 17 months of his commitment? -- The unit payroll and commander say No.
Thank you for another rant. I love it when you make political partisans from the left look conservative. Keep up the BS.
Look out Larry! Me and my MIGHTY PENIS are coming to get ya! CLINTONCLINTONCLINTONCLINTON! Run for your life Larry!
Keith's commentary was extraordinary as usual (what a contradiction in terms!) Extradordinary in its truthfulness, extradordinary in the sadness it provokes that our nation--our "leaders" actually--have sunk so low. Makes me think that the terrorists are just sitting back, waiting for another Republican to be voted into the White House so that they can unleash the next attack on our country and prove who's in charge. Talk about asking for it!
Keith, Your comments on Giuliani were right on target. The particular manner of your comments were so articulate that one would think that they would go right over the the head of an old guy like me [72],but not so. Giuliani doesn't scare me any, but I can see where it Might work on others. If Mickey Mouse had been elected Mayor of N.Y. durning 9/11,I don't think he would have done badly during post 9/11. Glad I had sense enough to start watching a great news/whatever program. love "the worst person" especially when Billo gets the gold. John W. Fleury
Sorry for the excessive rant CA. I saw from your 3:00PM post that you were on our side. What island did you have in mind?
You Got my vote Pam. Larry are you one of Roves Illegitimate Children?I gave you James Carvilles Phone Number on another post.He is a former Marine and can tell you all about Bill Clinton.http://www.carville.info/.It's got the number there. He can explain everything you need to know, about polotics and Bill Clinton .And guess what he is like us from the South.I doubt you will be able to understand him either.See what it's hard for guys like you to understand is TRUTH.Now that Monica thing you bring up well your right we seem to have way with the women and they with us and that's why the Republican women gravitate toward us,because we would rather .uck than fight. We like Peace and dancing stuff like that. Our women like that too.Get it we fight when there are real threats not made up boogie by little boys who never grew up Peter Pan and have there own agendas. So give James a call. You need to go dancing with some fine women from the French Quarter down there.Actually I used to date MS Summerville down there a long time ago,a real long time.Get what I men jelly bean.Stop worrying about war.Leave that to Harry and the Kerry,Murtha, and the Pros.Go dancing. And don't forget to Vote for Pam.
Scott in South Texas - Oh no, never!! His foaming at the mouth is brought upon by, as you and C A stated, a "God forbid" woman, who is assertive and knows what she's talking about. Larry can't handle this; however, his insults make me laugh!! As coming from him, I consider them some of my "greatest compliments. Notice the IQ bashing; however, ZERO statistics to back up his rambling diatribe. If it wasn't so sad that people actually think and feel as he does, it would actually be hysterical!! Thanks friend!!
As we like to say on the Intertoobz: FULL OF WIN!
Keith you spoke for me and so MANY others! As a New Yorker your words captured the sentiment of those who felt outraged by Guiliani's statement. You are a much needed voice unafraid to bare truth wherever it is needed. Please continue, especially among your MSM associates who, at times, are not as truthful with the presentation of information as you are. For ex- ample, we have had Chris Matthews, "selling" the idea of Rudy as a strong candidate for president based on his asking viewers of HARDBALL: "Who would you rather be in a foxhole with?". Chris took us down this path before during the last election cycle asking: "Who would you rather have a beer with?". Bush was the candidate being "sold" by the question. How many people who fell for that trap want to go out for that beer now??? I'll take you over a Chris Matthews anytime Keith for more honest coverage and analysis.
Fear has been a selling point in American Presidential campaigns for a long, long time. LBJ used the little girl picking flowers ad to scare people away from voting for Goldwater. Reagan used the "Bear in the Woods" to scare voters away from Mondale. Woodrow "He kept us out of War" Wilson scared voters against voting for Hughes. Even the Democrat Darling JFK used the Eisenhower administration's suppposed "Missile Gap" to scare voters away from Nixon. Keith must again be living in Political Fantasyland to think that Rudy's usage of fear is reprehensible or event uncommon.
Thank You Mr. Oberman, You speak truth to power. This was an excellent commentary, that was spot on. You had all your facts, and presented them excellently. Mr. Guiliani stands an ice cube's chance in Hades of getting elected president.
Dave Nash, while I understand that these things may have happened all those decades ago, a lot of people that are the voting age probably weren't even born (I know I wasn't), when a lot of these happened. T.v. wasn't blasted into every home; we didn't have the internet; and we certainly did NOT have a September 11, 2001. The attack on that day touched every single American, both here and abroad. It's ripple effect affected every country in the world and it's people. And while it is 'dirty' to play on someones fears to try and win an election, to use the worse attack that our country has ever seen, and to imply that only he and his party alone could ever stop it from happening again, and Democrats would never know how to stop it, is completely deranged! Not only did he insult every person in this country by playing the fear game, he tried to insult the intelligence of every voting Republican in this country. Crikey!
Now you're talking, Pam. Keep laughing. It's nice to meet a "God forbid" woman. On the IQ bashing, I guess I wouldn't be insulted if someone said that all democrats have IQs above 200, even if he said it jokingly. When republicans accuse democrats of elitism, always remember that they're really accusing democrats of being collectively smarter and more educated than they are. Not a bad place to be.
Pammie and Bonnie, don't give yourself so much credit. I haven't quite figured out why Pammie assumes she is so smart. Compared to almost everyone else on this site ( CA excluded.. lol ) she probably is the smartest. However; I wouldn't consider it a great compliment. She says she always states the facts, but all I see is he lied, he's a moron, he's an idiot, he's a war criminal , send him to the Hague, and that's about her ex-husband. She's even more hateful toward THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. I don't find her diatribes especially thoughtful nor educated. I detect she is a woman scorned by a man, the hatred is extreme. She does the libs no favor by acting like a lunatic. Bonnie, don't put too much stock in that IQ thing. Book sense and common sense are two different things. A strong woman does not bother me, there are many I respect. Condi Rice, Lynn Cheney, Elizabeth Dole, Laura Bush to name a few.
Larry, you’ve really outdone yourself with your comments. I have NEVER stated I want my ex-husband at The Hague, nor have I called him a moron, or a war criminal. Quite the opposite, while he was filled with hatred and contempt for anyone not Arab, he was/is very intelligent and did very well in school. Once again, you are distorting the facts Larry, and interjecting lies. It is your hero George w. Bush who I have called these names, which are ever so deserving. I have many more names for the war criminal, moron, liar, and murderer, in addition to wanting him transported to The Hague; however, I cannot use that language here. Please get your facts straight Larry, as you know nothing about me, my marriage, or my multiple male friends. I have many male friends, and always have since I was a young girl. I love sports and I always related to men well. So stop the asinine assumptions simply because I made a horrible mistake in entering into an inter-cultural marriage with a man who TRULY hated everyone except Arabs, including Americans. He is a bigoted, hate-filled man, who advocated the assignations of multiple world leaders, and I simply could not stay in a marriage with anyone who thinks as he did/still does.
Larry I don't even think you live in Charleston,SC.Dave Nash, Glen Ellyn, IL.But both of you guys are so fond of pulling the past out of you ass.what the hell does that mean anyway? We had a Civil War in the 1860's that's the past.Sputnik flew over in 1957 who gives a shit. What we want before you stiff us with your damn war tab now.Pay the damn deficit now mister. 420 billion down corrently that no one talks about. Then you can bitch away about the past till hell freezes over about the past, Mr. No New Taxes. This is right here right now for your damn war.I want the damn bill paid before we spend any more.We need the money for health, edcuation,to pay back the Social Security Fund the Presidents been, raiding,to help Katrina folks,GI Bill , really shore up or dedense.Stop blaming all the old stuff to distract folks from the stick up job your pulling on the Country. Those guys in the past didn't waste this money you are killing and wounding people with and are then tryng to stiff the troops, and us with the bill we will pay long after they are out of office.Tax the oil companies NOW.No passing on to the consumer!Tax Oil Imports No Passing on to the consumer.Open up the reserves and let the price fall as far as it can and the let good times roll and let the fat cats pick our tab instead of the one they slide under the table through lobbyist in DC.Those reserves are ours.If your not going to pay the deficit we are going to start opening the reserves and using them at a big discount. They are ours DUBYA!
Bobby, I'm not killing anyone. Cut off funding and bring the troops home today ! See, we agree on something
Larry If you Agree with this Administration you are killing a lot of someones. But kudos to you if you want to get us out. There is that big deficit bill to be paid for this war.I have seen some of your prior post.Yes cutting off funding and bring home the troops is a beginning. Then we have to pay for the bill you Republicans ran up getting us in this mess. That bill needs to be paid for by those who have profited(Big Oil)and an import tax with out a pass on to the consumer of either to the consumer. You know my plan.We can pay the bill for the Republican's Fear protection at 420 billion and coffins they haven't even paid for.The no new taxes talk
Keith, BRAVO & THANK YOU! I almost got up from my chair last night and gave you a standing ovation regarding what you said about Mr. Guiliani. I'm not surprised that a person of his caliber would stoop to this level, regardless if this tactic has been used in previous elections. Someone please tell Dave from my home state of Illinois to SHUT UP, he's an idiot! Why are so many republicans "HELL BENT ON WAR", FEAR, DESTRUCTION and last but not least "I GOT MINE, YOU GET YOURS" mentality? Also, I have to agree with the comments from Raven of Moriches New York. She's 100% correct on Chris Matthews and Guiliani. I asked Mr. Matthews the following question and he never had the balls to answer. He must be to busy sucking up to his Republican cronies to touch upon my comment. I asked Chris "Can you please explain to me why we would want another Commander and Chief running this country without a shred of foreign policy experience? We unfortunately have a former Governor in this position, also without any foreign policy experience and look at the mess he’s made of this country listening to advice from people like Karl Rove. Now the GOP want’s to take a former Mayor and repeat the same mistakes all over again, I don’t understand this idea." If I were a Republican this is an election year that I would want a "NONE OF THE ABOVE" box put on my ballot.
I've read too many of these messages. Most are kiss-ups and I don't kiss anyone's butt, especially Olbermann's. Suffice to say that, generally speaking, ANY Republican in the White house is better than ANY Democrat. Liberalism is the main problem, Not Giuliani. And while some Democrats lean a little bit Republican, ALL liberals are Democrats. There is a high price to be paid for America's freedom and it should be paid at any cost. If a catastrophe happens I need someone in the White House who will face the enemy. I see the Democrats running the other way. Hillary sees herself, unfortunately, as the "chosen one." If she was totally blind to Monica and "Bill being Bill," then how could she be awake enough to run a country? She obviously can be "taken." Barack Obama went on Imus' show and then stabbed him in the back. He follows Sharpton and anything he says. He is in NO POSITION to lead this country. When the world found out that Edwards pays $400 for a haircut "trim" and spends too much time primping in front of a mirror, it was already over for him. But who knows, maybe the Dems will get lucky and win. Does anyone really think the terrorists will back off if a Democrat becomes president? Olbermann will choke on this but There have been no terrorists strikes on American soil since 9/11 and the arrival of the Patriot Act and other Home Security policies, which the Dems want to revoke. America is also divided by too many special interest groups and a liberal media, which, in today's world, seems to only feel empathy for the enemy, even though they are out to kill us. Sooner or later we will pull out of Iraq and the chaos will instantly begin. I only hope there will be someone in the White House that CAN and WILL handle the situation.
Paul Gardner -- Were the anthrax attacks and deaths a freakin' mass hallucination? WMD have been on the white supremacist agenda for some time. Are you serioulsy saying that ELF, ALF, Army of God, etc. have been doing nothing for six years? Only two Republicans running who aren't chickenhawk cowards. Only two who considered Communism and narco-terrorists a threat worthy of THEIR time. Leadership is by example and the Republican example is five deferments and a BS medical condition when they can be bothered to show up for duty at all. I do NOT want a CIC who bicycled through France or was a phony cripple rather than in boot camp.
