Here's What You're Missing

Posted: Thursday, April 26, 2007 11:56 PM by Countdown

This just not in: Instead of a document dump tonight, the Justice Department sending lawmakers a detailed list of all the memos and emails they are refusing to dump. What seems to be the Bush administration equivalent of a "Wish you were here" postcard - if a postcard can be 159 pages long.

According to the Associated Press the description of one withheld memo reads:

"'Request for information from Sen. Ensign re: dismissal of Bogden." It's dated Dec. 8 -- two days after Nevada U.S. Attorney Daniel Bodgen and six other prosecutors were ordered to quit.

Another says "Discussion with Sen. Pryor staff re: ways a person can become a USA, [U.S. Attorney]."

Tomorrow the Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty answers questions behind closed doors. We're sure the Bush administration will be similarly kind to send us a list of all that we won't be hearing from there, as well.

Larry, you’ve really outdone yourself with your comments. I have NEVER stated I want my ex-husband at The Hague, nor have I called him a moron, or a war criminal. Quite the opposite, while he was filled with hatred and contempt for anyone not Arab, he was/is very intelligent and did very well in school. Once again, you are distorting the facts Larry, and interjecting lies. It is your hero George w. Bush who I have called these names, which are ever so deserving. I have many more names for the war criminal, moron, liar, and murderer, in addition to wanting him transported to The Hague; however, I cannot use that language here. Please get your facts straight Larry, as you know nothing about me, my marriage, or my multiple male friends. I have many male friends, and always have since I was a young girl. I love sports and I always related to men well. So stop the asinine assumptions simply because I made a horrible mistake in entering into an inter-cultural marriage with a man who TRULY hated everyone except Arabs, including Americans. He is a bigoted, hate-filled man, who advocated the assignations of multiple world leaders, and I simply could not stay in a marriage with anyone who thinks as he did/still does.
Larry Charleston, SC - Uh, Larry, the late King Hussein of Jordan was an Arab, not an Iranian; and since you didn't "bring the two together", your statment makes no sense.
PS: Larry Charleston, SC - FINALLY got something right Larry, in your words, "King Hussein advocated peace, Bill Clinton advocated piece". No need to "straighten me out", as I've been saying that all along buddy!! (But I guess the "straightening out goes with your "chauvinism" territory!! FINALLY, some sense has been knocked into you, or is this your "alter-Larry", a.k.a., one of your student’s posts??
Isnt this like driving off after the police officer stops you and giving him the finger as you speed off? Do they think that they will get away with this, and what do they expect to gain? Looks like a list of memos to subpoena to me.
I only wish the Clinton administration's Sandy Berger would be so kind, by preparing a list of the documents he stole from the National Archives.
I am not making this comment to defend anyone, especially Bush and this administration as I believe it is time they leave. They have lost all credibility right or wrong and cannot provide the meaningful, confident leadership this country needs. But I was wondering if we had complete access to all documents, memos, emails, handwritten notes of all past Presidents and their adminsitrations, what we might just learn. After catching up this morning and trying to read all the comments posted in the last few days, and after responding to a posting from George Hammonton, NJ, about religion, spirituality and man's tendancy to fight and nitpick towards one another, I am just in one of my piss-ant moods about all politicians, left and right, republican and democrat.
Bonnie, Madison - No, I left Jeb out of the equation, as I was comparing the IQ’s of the last twelve presidents. George Herbert Walker Bush's IQ is 98; and his son, "Junior Idiot" has an IQ of 91, or the LOWEST of the last twelve presidents. What a "SHOCK" that is!! It certainly explains a great to me!! However, you are right; I thought the “Senior/Junior Idiot IQ Score” would range in the low 70's!! Thanks for the laugh my friend!!
C A - I hear you, as BOTH parties have their share of skeletons in the closet. That piece George wrote was amazing; and equally enlightening as to how deep hatred and bigotry really goes. I also believe that "we the people" are entitled to see documents and writings of past presidents, and ALL of them, democrats and republicans alike. Good post my friend!!
And by the way, a short, quick sign off after debates is fine, but MSNBC, Fox and all other networks have gotten carried away with their "indepth" analysis of the debates, who won, who lost, who said what and why, etc. I feel like a second grader being told by a bunch of inept teachers what to think about the debates and the candidates. Don't get me wrong, I like and respect Keith and did see that he stays pretty quiet to allow Chris Matthews to do most of the talking, but it's time to cut back on these ridiculous post-debate analysis by all networks. I know, I can switch the channel during these post-debate comments, and I plan on doing so. And I agree with whomever suggested it. Let Dems and Republicans alike hold debates moderated by MSNBC and Fox. But here's the deal. MSNBC or any other network can't allow Rosie to moderate either debate and Fox can select whomever they want as moderator except Hannity, O'Reilly, Coulter or Michelle Malkin. Hannity is just too much of an asshole and would not let the candidates finish their responses before he rudely interrupted with "YOU DIDN'T ANSWER MY QUESTION!!!". O'Reilly is just plain nuts and would end up getting into a fight with one of the candidates right there on public television, Coulter is a b---h and a nobody and is crazy, and well, I still don't see any reason or credentials from the cheerleader as to why anyone would even consider her. Hell, I'd even take Fred Barnes or Brett Hume over those four.
Have a good day all. My three year old fell out of my bed, hit the night stand and cut his ear in the middle of the night; I feel like I'm going to toss my cookies this am; I have a bathroom that needs to be painted (I disassembled the whole thing last weekend); it's a minimum day for my other three boys, and I'm pooped. You all have a good weekend, as I'm not in the mood to read pathetic defenses of George Bush from a few on here. Ciao, and PEACE!
C A - Your analogy and solution is brilliant; and it is most definitely is what the majority of Americans want. Sadly, we have a president who places cotton balls in his ears whenever he hears something he doesn't like, i.e. rationality, reality, the facts, etc. Irresponsible doesn't begin to describe George W. Bush. In addition, you are also right on target regarding the presidents of Pakistan and Afghanistan. I remember after the attacks of September 11th, Colin Powell basically laid out the facts for President Musharraf via an ultimatum, i.e. cooperate or suffer the consequences. Powell told him exactly what the United States expected from him. Colin Powell's voice was heard loud and clear. Sadly, this well-respected man's reputation, via his infamous speech to the UN, has somewhat tarnished the reputation of his brave, brilliant and honorable career. While I was relieved after the 2000 election debacle that at least one honorable and intelligent individual was part of George W. Bush's first term, I'm glad he left when he did. He didn't need the grief, the back-stabbing and top Administration officials flat out refusal to listen to his words. However, at the same time, I wish Powell “could” tell the leaders in Afghanistan exactly what he told President Musharraf. Afghanistan better get their act together and SOON!!
Jamie: Hope all is well with your young'in.
Jamie, Chula Vista, CA - I'm so sorry to hear about your son, and I hope he is ok. As the mother of 21-year-old twin daughters, there is nothing worse than an injured child. God Bless, and PEACE to you my friend.
Oh, well, Pam, there I have to take issue with you, my friend. Sad to say, Colin Powell either knew or should have known what he was doing, and in that case, he should have resigned before he made that speech, not afterward. Like John McCain, however, he became a slave to his own ambition and sold his soul for what he thought, at the time, would be most to his advantage. What I don't understand is why Congress has not made Powell the first witness on the weapons of mass destruction issue, instead of Condoleeza Rice. From what I have heard Powell say since, at least he might tell them the truth. Rice never will. She simply won't recall, or she won't understand how anyone could have anticipated that those weapons wouldn't be there.
C A – I too was disturbed by the non-stop dissecting of literally every word by every candidate. The coverage was indeed over the top. Unfortunately, because I live in Los Angeles, I was at work during the debate, which disturbed me. It is very disturbing, and equally disappointing that those of us living in this time zone are habitually ignored. What’s more disturbing is that California’s Electoral College is the largest of all 50 states. I was anxiously awaiting the coverage of the debate since I missed it; however, after about 45 minutes of post-debate coverage, I turned it off. I don’t think an autopsy is dissected to the degree the debate was!! However, it was initially a difficult decision to watch the coverage in the first place; as my San Francisco Giants were on the verge of sweeping the hated arch rival Los Angeles Dodgers, so I therefore watched the game with great enjoyment. After the Giants’ victory and “sweep”, I got out my broom, swiffer, mop and went to town! Hopefully, the future will bring more effective, less exhausted and needless dialogue.
The fact of the matter, even for those who had reservations about this war as Powell, Durbin, etc., none knew just how bad the end result was going to be. The American people did not at first know just how bad it was going to be. Those of us who served in Nam had an inkling but I suppose we hoped this was going to be different. More like an in and out scenario because we thought this country had learned its lesson. For this we will all do some soul searching. But the real criminals are those who now know how bad it is and still want to stay the course, i.e. Bush, Cheney, Rice and a few others. We can possibly forgive ourselves for this lack of foresight as well as Powell and some others. But there is no way forgiveness can be given to Bush, Cheney, Rice and whoever else in this administration wants to stay the course. And don't bring up Patreus. He is doing what he has been ordered to do yet has told the American people point blank, and at the potential expense of his career, that this conflict cannot be won or resolved militarily. If a decision is not made to change course I can assure you that Patreus will resign.
Bonnie - Oh please don't misunderstand me; I do believe with 100% certainty that Colin Powell sold out. It was most disturbing and very sad; as he had a great reputation and served this country honorably prior to his association with this Administration and that horrid speech. I don't know what made him do it; however your analogy to John McCain was right on target. They are both sell-outs!! I re-read what I posted and I agree my verbiage was confusing. He has been in literal "hiding" since his decision to not continue on in Bush's second term. I also agree that he should be hauled before Congress and forced to testify on each and every piece of information he had, who fed it to him, and what actions he took prior to giving his speech to the UN. He flushed his reputation down the toilet, and the criticism he gets he deserves. Again, it just saddens me that someone of his (old) caliber, would stoop to the level he did. However, after 9/11, Pakistan did need to be dealt with, and he did do a good job there. This has all been overshadowed by his speech of lies to the UN. Thanks Bonnie, as I did need to clarify my feelings and writing.
Pam; I understand about the coverage on the west coast when such things are scheduled on the east coast or vice versa. But we can take care of California having the largest electoral college vote. It's time to eliminate the electoral college and elect a President by popular vote.
C A - Oh how I agree with you!! The Electoral College, better described as a "colonial holdover" needs to go!! Election 2000, enough said!! In the founding of our nation, the Electoral College was established to prevent the people from making "uneducated" decisions. The founders feared the easily-swayed opinions of the public and designed the Electoral College as a protection from the easily-swayed public. However, there is ABSOLUTELY no reason, in this modern day, to assign this responsibility to a set of individual Electors. Thousands of votes can and have been violated by an individual Elector, choosing to act on his or her own behalf instead of on the behalf of the people. Since the founding of the Electoral College, 156 Electors have not cast their votes for the candidates they were designated to represent. I have believed since I was a "child" that the Electoral College, or "colonial holdover" is absurd. I want the president and vice-president to be elected by a popular vote, effective “yesterday!!
CA...more great posts...I didn't mean to put you in a pissed off mood...I enjoy the dialogue...but we do agree about all the nitpicking and bickering...I am pissed off most days at the intolerance and ignorance and lack of compassion in the world...one reason I write...I was never a huge Trekkie, but Spock's word still resonate with me..."The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one"...CA, this may sound silly, but have you published any of your writings? you write well and have a lot to say...just curious...you could collect your posts and have an amazing blog or collection of writings...Pam and Jamie too...rage on...apathy is abundant...enjoy the weekend...
Some people just enjoy beating their head with a cast iron frying pan. I am sure that it is all good for the news sellers and agnostics yet I think we all know that "Political truth" involves manipulation and spin before it's feed to the general public. We all know that what the Bush administration has done is in violation of our constitution. Yet the politicians, both Republicans and Democrats, will continue with giving us "Political truth" to digest until we are all so sick we just go away and then they can get together in the back room and slap each other on the back for a job well done. I know a former government employee who worked in DC and attended congressional meetings. He has told me about how in the morning a fellow Senator would be yelled at in public for a wrong doing and called the most unkind names known to man, yet that same afternoon the two would be best friends playing golf. It's all a big joke and the American peoples are being laughed at.
George, Hammonton, NJ - Thank you George and I agree that C A's writings are amazing, but so are yours. I suggest that you submit some of your amazing writings to various newspapers. I believe they would be published, and many more people, other than those here, would be able to enjoy your "op-ed's". Your writing yesterday was truly inspirational, remarkable, and so on target. Please keep up the great work, as I so look forward to reading your brilliant and heart-felt writings.
Hello Pam...thanks...I have published my short stories and poetry over the years...I am close to selling a play about Bushworld called Broken...I have my own blog that features some of my posts from here...although more people read them here than at my blog site...thanks again...Blog On Pam. Enjoy the weekend...G
George: (lol) Thanks for the comppliment but no I have not published any writings. I'm surprised anyone even reads my posts here. Mine are no better than others. Like I tell Pam, if you read between the lines and look carefully at the words of all who post a comment here, even if you disagree with them, there is a tremendous amount of power in everyone's thoughts and opinions. Those who write here, if you study them carefully, also tell much about themselves. I like that. And don't forget that all our writings originate from the mind and soul and each of them is special in their own way. That makes everyone here special no matter who is doing the writing, and no matter if one agrees with them or not. Some of the greatest writings I have ever read have come from children. Short, sweet, most often to the point and devoid of any of the damaging effects and predujudices of adulthood, and certainly from the heart. Now if MSNBC ever wanted me to write a column now and then as an average Joe American I might not turn them down, but I certainly would be sure to check my spelling and perhaps test them on you guys before I sent anything to them to be published - smile.
I agree with getting rid of the eletoral college. It was set up after citizens began moving "west" to Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, etc. Several of these states' constitutions were more inclusive and gave the vote to all white men twenty-one years old and over. In the first thirteen states, only LANDOWNERS who were white men twenty-one years old and over were given the right to vote. The electoral college was set up to give the more educated and wealthy more of a say, since they were the ones usually elected to public office and would, most likely, also be members of the electoral college. These men just wanted to hold on to power. I say, "Power to the people." And I would like my vote to count. EACH PERSON'S VOTE SHOULD COUNT.
