Dear Countdown and Mr. Olbermann. Please refer to the messages regarding credibility of news organizations in the George Tenet Discussion thread. As adorable as Mr. Bateman is, please. This stuff belongs on Entertainment tonight. I realize that you wish to introduce lighter topics but can't you find some real news to do that with?
You have no idea how happy this makes me.
Jason Bateman is a fantastic actor. He was the best part of Arrested Development. Anything he's in, I'll watch. I always watch Keith Olbermann so I guess it's a twofer tonight.
What is the purpose? To plug Jason Bateman who I like and think is a nice young man. But as Independent, Texas states, this is something that belongs on Entertainment tonight. How about taking this time during the Countdown show to begin doing some short bios on those we are losing in Iraq in honor to their service and memory. You could schedule some time each evening to do two a night until you have covered all known American soldiers killed in Iraq. I would like to know of these young people (nothing too private) just a short piece of who they are, where they are from, what family they leave behind and anything unique or special about each one in addition to their life giving service to this country.
Instead of talking with Jason Bateman, whom I've always enjoyed watching, how about covering the reports that are quietly being filtered out about how the Bush administration turned away, that's right REFUSED! help from other countries when Hurrican Katrina decimated Mississippi and Louisiana. Our worst natural disaster ever, and they refuse vital help for the people who desperately needed it most. Now that's news that should be covered. What do you think????
Went to the website to see what/who would be on the show tonight. Discussion here about tv vs movie. Movie wins. Jason Bateman? We need straight reporting on the failures of the Bush adminstration. The anger over the lies and scandals and needless deaths of thousands upon thousands is now palpable in this country. We need information. We need leaders. We don't need more pop culture. When this program is good, it's very, very good, but when it's Showbiz Tonight, it's awful.
It depends on what Batemann has to say. The GOPee loves actors, the very dead Ronnie, and the "Drop Dead Fred" Thompson. Only a militant facist evangelical right wing nutcase's would denounce someone before they actually spoke word one. Let's hear what he has to say, befor the judgement.
You can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but you can't please all the people all the time. Bring on Jason and let the chips fall where they may. Might want to check the rating just in case.
C A - That's a brilliant idea. It is unfortunate that, even with five shows a week, to profile just two souls per show would take more years than "Countdown" is contracted for. Let Scarborough deal with the celebs - he's got no shame for this fodder. It's sad (touching back to some of the posts on the GT thread) that too many Americans worry more about celebrity news than the real news.
I'd like to see some interviews with John Perkins and perhaps have him discuss how the corpratocracy is taking over the news media. Maybe get his thoughts on the latest scandals in DC and the latest war news. Opps! I forgot! GE owns MSNBC. Bet it will be a cold day in hell before they let you interview someone as inflamatory as Perkins!
AD was simply the most intelligent comedy ever aired on American television. Indeed, it didn't last because it was too intelligent for the average American.
Arrested Development is the most sophicated comedy to ever be on tv. Why did it go off the air I spend most evenings and weekends watching the reruns -- I really do need a life! What can't someone bring it back -- Let's rate current TV -- "Where's Earl?" Arrested Development -- you decide!
It is rather funny though-don't you think? I mean somewhere along the developmental line, the common sense of Bush and company was arrested. Now if we could only get them literally arrested-THAT would be fantastic.PEACE!
Hey, folks, it's a TV show, not your vehicle for saving the world. I like a light moment. And, I like Jason Bateman. If you need some ideas about what to watch on the teevee to get your panties out of that bunch they're in, stop by my blog.
That was the ODDEST interview I have ever seen. Was Jason Bateman feeling okay? Is he on drugs?
Sorry, but I like a mix of news on my news show. While I definitely want the hard stuff, an hour of it is more than I can take. What I like is the way Keith can put it all in the order in which it belongs. Keep it up, Keith--hope you enjoyed the game tonight.
I mistakenly tuned in for Mallory Keaton and wound up sticking around for her brother anyway. Luv the show, dudes...keep it goin!
I'd like to use my subpeona power to obtain all the smack emails between Bateman and Olbermann on the grounds I suspect they'd be really funny. And none of this gap b***s***
Geez that was TV Lite. Was not your best time waster keith... I was already grimacing at bart simpson but who the heck cares about this actor? this just isn't the time for this drivel on your show. Count me as disappointed...
RE: Independent - If you watch the show regularly, you would know that the last segment of the day is alloted to such entertainment pieces as "American Idol" (much to Keith's dismay) or the Anna Nicole Smith fiasco. Today was a bright spot in that horrible darkness as Jason Bateman is A)talented and B)actually has something intelligent to say about the state of the world, as opposed to just promoting something. One of the many reasons why Arrested Development is mourned by many who appreciate good and hilarious TV.
I thought the show was hilarious KO. I think some of the viewers who claim to be fans need to realize there is enough b.s that comes down the pike and a little switch up once in awhile is good. It is hard to keeping rehashing what is currently going on and what lies in the underbelly of our lives. That is reality. Despite the going on's on our so called fearless leader, Mr. Tenent and the sex saga's from D.C., I personally felt it was cool to discuss Bart Simpson being an anatomically correct cartoon character and to have Jason Bateman on discussing the too early absence of his hilarious show, "Arrested Developemnt". Ligthen up people. The only thing I want is to be on that e-mail list as well. KO has plenty of time to discuss the obvious, one is the war and the waste of time we have spent over four years and the loved ones we have lost and fell victim to this horrific event and the other, the Republican Debates this Thursday, live from the Regan Library. The only good thing about this will be Chris Matthews and I hope he says "dicking around" again, have fun with that one KO. Denise
JAM-Piitsburgh: How is Pittsburgh nowadays anyway. I have a Steelers Super Bowl Champions license plate trim on my truck from their last championship. Love the Steelers. Anyway, how about if Countdown just used a small segment to read the names and hometowns of 10 or so of the fallen each evening until they catch up. That way there would be plenty of time on the broadcast to recognize the brave men and women.
We realize that news shows need to have a light side to them and I would agree that having someone like Jason Bates on when we can afford to have these light sides is fine. I like the kid. But right now it is difficult to react or respond to these lighter sides of the world when other young people from this country are taking lead in their guts and are dying in Iraq every day, with no end in sight. When the time is right, when we have spent all our energies and have given our undivided attention to getting these young people home or out of harms way, then have Jason Bates on all you want. As for Jason having something intelligent to say about the state of the world, he is an actor, not a strategic world planner or Phd in World Affairs. I like him and his acting but would not give his thoughts and opinions about the state of the world any more importance, credence or attention then I would any average Joe or Betty on the street.
Loved the segment with Bateman. I'm a huge fan of Arrested Development, and own the entire set (No disrespect to Bateman, but I really loved Will Arnett's portrayal of Gob). It's interesting how the segment started with The Simpsons movie and ended with fantasy baseball. Also loved how Scarborough flinched at Bateman's paper throw. :)
Bateman the #1 story? I love KO, and would normally be the last person to criticize, but this segment was so lame, it was embarassing. C'mon Keith, talk about your fantasy baseball teams with your buds on your own time!
