TRICKY DICK

Posted: Tuesday, June 26, 2007 12:18 PM by Countdown

Some of what we're working on for tonight...

Part Three of the Washington Post's investigative series on Vice President Cheney takes a look at his influence on the administration's domestic policy. Its thesis: That if President Bush is "the Decider" Mr. Cheney serves up his menu of options. For instance, Mr. Cheney led the group that narrowed down the list of potential Supreme Court nominees (we all know how that turned out.)

Mr. Cheney inserted himself in the investigation of Democratic Congressman William Jefferson, apparently as alarmed as Mr. Jefferson's colleagues were about the seizure of the congressman's files... what with being a member of the legislative branch and all. He presented Mr. Bush with the course of action that was taken - the files were placed under seal for 45 days. Lastly, but by no means all, Mr. Cheney has shaped tax cut policy.

The Post reporting that on a rare occasion when the president actually told his alleged second banana 'No' (on deep reductions on capital gains tax on investments) Mr. Cheney did an end run around Mr. Bush and successfully lobbied Congress for them directly. Not that the president will ever even find out about it. He doesn't read newspapers.

COUNTING DOWN TO SEPTEMBER:  Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana has become the latest Republican to announce he doesn't believe the president's policies are working in Iraq. Countdown is still drawing a line between Republican senators who speak out against the president's policies in Iraq and those who actually do something about it. (Senator Warner, that means you.) The true test will come in September.

A FILIBUSTER IS A FILIBUSTER:  Speaking of which, Countdown is tired of hearing the term "procedural vote" used in reference to today's action regarding the immigration reform bill on Capitol Hill.  Before the Democrats took over the Senate, any attempt to prevent an up-or-down vote in that body was called a 'filibuster' loudly and often. Now that the Republicans are in the minority, much of the MSM seems to have abandoned that term.

How adept has the GOP become at blocking legislation, you ask? Let's just say the House has passed and sent 239 bills to the Senate - 239 - that, one way or another, haven't been heard from since.

so - where is the countdown list for tonight? I need the version written by Steve Turner before I can feel my day is complete.
Pat from Boston, Thank you very very much for your reference to JFK!  I have read several of his very last speaches but not the one he was to give that day.  It does not surprise me in the least that he would say what he did as he as an honorable man of peace and indeed a hero for getting us through such a tough time.  I remember documentaries that showed how the military was only proposing a military solution (go figure, right?) to Cuba.  JFK's stragegy was to take an early break from the debates and sen Boby kennedy in who would talk to them and get them to reveal "other" alternatives.  Being interested in Space exploration all my life, I was also very shocked to learn that to Jonh Kennedy, the race to the moon was never a race at all, for if it were, he would have never asked the soviets to join us in doing so as he indeed did at a second 'less well known' moon speach given at the UN on September 20nd 1963.  To him is was not a race, but an oportunity to bring our two space fairing nations together and I don't believe for a minute that he ever thought it was possible in only eight years without the help of the soviets.  We may have ultimately proved him wrong by succeeding alone, but I think we missed out on a large part of what was intended.

To the neocons of the time, sharing rocket technology with the soviets on a 'combined' moon mission must have been so unacceptable that they might have even killed him for it.

The speech where he asked the Soviets to JOIN US in a mission to the moon can be found here:

http://www.jfklibrary.org/Historical+Resources/Archives/Reference+Desk/Speeches/JFK/003POF03_18thGeneralAssembly09201963.htm

He also spoke of racism and environmental issues!  I firmly believe that the quote you listed is even better: that we should not use our power to threaten our enemies as that is what a truly honerable person would say and believe.  He was that person and only jimmy Carter seems to even come close in that regard.  I sincerely hope that Newsweek mentioned some of this in thier article!  May we all look at his words, not just how he dies, a new!!!!!!!!!!
Chris - Thank you SO much for that link of JFK, an amazing man indeed!! Also, former President Jimmy Carter has been a hero of mine since I was 14 years old!! He is a man of honor, dignity and peace!! We certainly haven’t had any of that with this Administration!!

Thanks again!!

PEACE!!
Thanks Pam! Carter was on my radar too since I was a boy.  I remember recording the Camp David accords and the signing of the Egyptian-Israeli peace agreement on my audiocassette recorder at the age of nine.  I did not follow politics back then but I just knew it was a truly historic event.  I have also been a member of his Center for peace since the mid '90s.  I give him so much credit for getting North Korea to the table and I am even more thankful for his second to last book on how badly Israel treats the Palestinians.  If we only treated the situation fairly and not so one sidedly, I think the problem would be completely solved, but that is not how we act.  We completely gave Israel the complete green light to bomb ALL of Lebanon last year with Condi nowhere in sight.  Israel used phosphorous artillery shells, targeted clearly marked ambulances, DELIBERATELY bombed a UN outpost and every building in Southern Beirut claiming a Hezbollah command center was under each apartment block…  Tell me who is the terrorist is such situations?   We are not trying to spread peace or democracy.  If we where, we would have fully backed Hamas who won 72% of that countries elections.  Elections the Carter Center monitored.  It seems all we wish to do is kill as if to bring about the ‘rapture’ or some crap.  As Keith also pointed out when talking to Jon Dean, The Administration might actually want terrorist to exist as it gives authoritarians like the right someone to drum up hate against so they could actually seize even more power here at home.  Sorry for the total rant Pam. I'm also sorry it took me so many years to realise that this country is a spitting image of everthing it said it once stood against.  This administration is just the tip of the iceberg of what we've been doing ALL ALONG!
I'm sure not many will get to this comment, but it's been burning me ever since I watched it.  Will something ever be done with PBS Frontline's allegations about Cheney and the manufacture of false intelligence documents as reasons we went to war on Iraq?  Impeachment I think would be minimum.  If anyone reads this, please checkout Frontline's documentary on Cheney.  I found it fascinating and aggravating.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/darkside/
Chris - "Sorry for the long rant" - NO, it was right on the money.  I, like you, have felt for a long time that Israel has gotten away with far too much.

Jimmy Carter was blasted for his book because some people refuse to accept the truth and he was falsely and maliciously labeled an anti-Semite.  Nothing could be further from the truth. I truly love this man and I tell everyone I know, "I would die a happy person if I met Jimmy Carter before I died”.

The Camp David accords and the signing of the Egyptian-Israeli peace agreement was a monumental time in our history.  I, too, will never forget any of it; as I watched everything and only wish I tape recorded it also.

Jimmy Carter’s words regarding this Administration are so true, as were his words regarding this Administration as it pertained to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, "They just didn't drop the ball, they never picked it up."  Indeed!!

Condi has been useless in this Administration, both as National Security Advisor and Secretary of State, absolutely useless!!

Also, it was Jimmy Carter, thirty years ago, who warned Americans of what would happen if we continued to use, or abuse, oil and other resources as we were.  Very few listened, and we are living his EXACT words of his warnings today!!

Thanks again Chris!!

It is very nice meeting you out here Pam and good to know people like you exist!  I am not against any race or nation.  I am a humanitarianist whose only concern is that we start getting our act together to face the REAL challenges this century has to offer… a century that they head of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists (the keepers of the doomsday clock) only gave all of humanity a 50/50 chance of surviving.  As Martin Luther King Jr. so aptly said, we will either live together as brothers of die together as fools.

I have actively thought about peace most of my life thanks also to the likes of Carl Sagan who instilled in me a fear of nuclear war and the arrogant mentality that could lead to the end of it all.  What a waste, especially given just how promising our sciences, arts, and technology seemed to show we could do ANYTHING with only two-thirds of half an effort.

One of the things I do to help insure the safety of humanity is I vigorously propose better emergency preparedness with massive disaster management centers that combine police, fire, some medical, and even the national guard.  I propose not building right in harm’s way and I also try to get people to think about living communally so that they can be more efficient and more SELF-SUFFICIENT which are the two absolute keys to nearly ANY disaster scenario, bird flu pandemic, terrorists attack, or Mars invasion [read neocon invasion] you can think of.  Just today I completed a three level, five bedroom, 14.4 meter diameter hexagonal home design that would help humanity endure even through the toughest of times… times all the more likely with this administration so liberally throwing its weight around.  None of us should consider it safe with how things are going and most of all I fear a new and even more bloody war with Iran which I think would spark another world war as no other nation could permit us to control so much of the ME at any one time.

PS. You probably won’t believe me but I actively sought (e-mailing everyone I could think of) to do a peace demonstration in IRAN as a protest to Bush imperialism.  Too often we hear ‘just NUKE IRAN’ and no one gives it a second thought to attack them.  What exactly did they do to us?  It was OUR coup in the 50s that led to their ‘revolution’ which went surprisingly peaceful for how badly it could have turned.  Anyway… Hope you catch this!  Hope there is more people just like you as well!
I have an Idear here, let's inpeach Bush, chenney can't become president sence he said he wasn't part of the executive branch. We could get rit of them all at ones right? just a tought.
Chris by the way: If other country's behave like we do they should invade us right? after all we keep treatning other country's and wasn't that one of the reason we invade Iraq because they keep treating there neighbors, just wondering
Todd, New Orleans, LA (Sent Tuesday, June 26, 2007 9:26 PM)
So Todd you said and I quote “The present does not pop fully formed into existence without being informed by the past.  Information, in the strict physics usage of the term, is persistent.”  This implied that physics was somehow supporting your position.  I wanted a more detailed explanation, I suspected it was hooooy, but was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.   Now you are saying there is a non-causal relationship, presumably between past Christian fanatics and present radical Islam.  So I guess you backed off, probably a good idea.  My guess is though you do not fully understand causality in the mathematical sense.   You have unintentionally proven your lack of logic skills, and probably wouldn’t know the difference between a probability density function and a probability distribution.   You might be able to understand elementary Algebra, but probably get stuck with linear Algebra, what with vector spaces and all.

Like I've said in the past you should probably stick with pretending to be a lawyer.  Your wanabe status is becoming quite apparent.
Chris and Pam - We won't see any improvement until we once again become the United States of America.  For decades we have become the United States of Imperialism.  This administration is simply taking things to the extreme.

Why do we have military bases all over the world?  Didn't we have a snit fit when the USSR tried to put one in Cuba?  But nooooooooooooo!  Nobody is supposed to bad an eyelash at our military presence in country after country.

Things will not change until we use the resources we use all over the world to "maintain a presence" into resolving the problems we have here at home.  Yo, Washington!  The Cold War is OVER!
Chris, I'd like to go to Iran if you can find enough people. I'm serious. I think it's a great idea.
Does the term Anti-Christ come to anyone's mind?
"Why do we have military bases all over the world?  ...  Nobody is supposed to bad an eyelash at our military presence in country after country.

Sue, West Allis, Wisconsin (Sent Wednesday, June 27, 2007 10:30 AM)"

Um Sue, could you possible wait a few years to bring that up again?  Say, when my family and I are coming back from our tour in Italy.:)
LOL Jamie. Sorry about the effect on you and yours, but can anyone tell me why we are in Italy?  Are the Italians going to attack us?  with pasta?  Are the Italians going to be attacked and need our protection?

That goes for all our military installments everywhere.

The biggest part of our budget is not social programs, it's maintaining our presence everywhere in the world.  We're just imperialists.
Chris,

Thank you so much for your brilliant response to me and analogy of the world in general.  It was a wonderful piece of work. Indeed Jimmy Carter instilled the "peace movement" within me as a very young girl!! Truly and amazing man!!

I, too, have enjoyed meeting you here!! I believe your suggestion with regards to Iran is wonderful!! The "people" of Iran, do like us; and I would sign up to go with you in a heart beat!!

I'm so glad there are people like you, who not only think as you do, write as well as you do, but most importantly, have the COURAGE to do write it.

I have the utmost admiration for you!! I am copying and pasting and saving your writing. Your assessment of Iran is right on target.

Also, congratulations on the completion of your home design!! I, too, hope there are more out there like you Chris!!

PEACE!!
Sue - The circus in town has now become a BROKEN RECORD!! Gees, I wish that broken record would just shut up!!
No Scott, I didn't back off.

I won.  You are just too stupid to realize it yet.

In fact, I have beaten you not just once, but every time and I have beaten you not just resoundingly, but decisively.  Other than the occasional slight ancillary issue, you NEVER win here against ANYONE on ANY TOPIC.

You don't deserve anymore attention on this issue of who is the bad guy, Jesus or Mohamed.  Drop it you retarded bigot or continue to avoid the facts that (1) you have had your ass handed to you on a plate yet again, (2) not just by me but by several others, (3) the topic has CHANGED but you have not and (4) you lost and you will continue to lose because you have chosen a ridiculous biased flawed and unprovable premise to build your questioning from.  Not even Napoleon or Descartes would fight from an untenable position willingly.  You are still a mouse catcher, I am still a dragon, and you have inadequate tools to take me on.  You always will.  Or hasn't that been made clear enough for you yet, you idiotic fascist puppet.

It's nice to see you found a Mathematics Dictionary.  Your premise and your question are still both fundamentally flawed (for the earlier stated reasons) so you come back and slightly change the question.  This changes nothing, hack.  That's a Poli Sci 101 trick.  I'd say try again, but I don't care what you think about Islam or Christianity or any religion, you Jesus-bigot.  You made your position quite clear.  I think I am speaking for most everyone here when I say that.

G+, a first in grading here at the News Hole.  You are now in the lead for the Special Award.  Your buddy James is going to be upset.

Way to go, Dick, er, Scott.  You want to keep up this line of bigoted mental masturbation, do it on your own.  What should I expect from a guy who's hero, Billo, was pantsed on his own show by a 16 year old using Bill's own book for ammunition?  Why, I expect more nonsensical crap from you, of course.  You are the one trying to prove your ridiculous statements, so you can do the futile work.  It should be good for a laugh.  Be sure to show your proofs!  lol.  Oh that should be funny.  You lost, you can't win from that position because it is a formal nonstarter, and that is that. I am willing to laugh watching you try though.

Continue to wallow in this subject as long as you want.  You damage yourself more than anyone.  You look more like a brainwashed zealot with every post.  And anything that makes you look stupid makes me giggle.  I've been doing a lot of giggling lately.

Now how about answering that question about Dick.  Or are you taking question avoidance lessons from that hair piece Mitt Romney?  You haven't misused the word "null" yet.
"Yo, Washington!  The Cold War is OVER!"

Sue, this is one thing that worried me so much about Clinton.  He said specifically that he would cancel the B-2 Stealth bomber as that is a very offensive weapon system that could give the US a first strike capability.  He did not.  He not only didn't cancel the B-2, he allowed almost every other program to continue and although he did cut back on the military it was nowhere near enough.  My fear then was that someone would come to power and be hell bent on using it.  Even back then it was easy to see that not always does the right president come to power.  We had the head of the K K K elected as a congressman and even a sheriff who tortured African Americans in some southern state to get a false confession become congressman.  In a democracy, there is no telling who can come to power.  Japan has just elected another Nationalist government for the first time since WWII.  Austria elected a Pro Nazi president who was forced to resign only because other European nations spoke out and refused to have even diplomatic ties to them.  Thus, even before Bush or 9/11, I saw it a very dangerous path to have a military far more powerful than any other on earth COMBINED.  Even before the war, we spent more on the military (400 Billon) when China spent like 40 max…  France - 30ish... Add them all up and we outspent them.  Anyway... GREAT POINT!  Thanks to George however, the cold war is back on and it has forced all other nations to harden their positions and spend more on the military... a dangerous path to be sure in a world so chock full of AAMD (Arsenals of ABSOLUTE Mass Destruction)

Pam, thanks for checking back and for writing!  I'm not sure what to do to get people to think that, to this administration, this war has only just begun.  To me they have deliberately provoked an Iraqi civil war to destabilize the region and gain the excuses they'd need to attack Iran.  TWICE (once in a back alley of Baghdad given by people who did not even give the media their name) they tried to say Iran was arming insurgents in Iraq only to have the now departing Joint Chiefs say there was no such evidence.  That is why they are getting rid of Pace... he did not play ball.  Anyone who does not see this NEXT war coming from a mile away is blind.  Oh... they say, George would never get ANOTHER war authorization to attack Iran.  But as Jon Dean pointed out to Keith Obermann two weeks ago, this administration (who has no regard for such things) might just claim it already HAS such authorization in their “war on terror.”  We could literally wake up one morning with the headlines "Tehran Bombed: US uses own WMD on Iran" with nothing more to do about it than complain.

Many people don't realize it, but the dems not only gave this trigger-happy administration all the money it asked for, they also pulled language from their new funding bill that would have SPECIFICALLY prevented Bush from attacking Iran without further authorization.  Now if that is not a total Green Light for Bush to just go ahead and do it, I don't know what is.

The dems are just dying to show how tough they are on terror so as not to appear weak and are just as likely to try to do so with Iran as the example as the next republican.  Nine of ten Republican candidates and even our frontrunner Hillary all want to attack Iran.  Even how much this nation is against the Iraq war, the suggestion of a new war with Iran just does not seem to register.  It is as if we’ve been preconditioned just to hate without any grounds whatsoever.  On MSNBC message boards you frequently hear slogans like fire bomb Gaza or Nuke Iran.  Is that who we've become... a race that thinks we can overcome our problems thought MASS GENOCIDE???  We have a military with 60% of our soldiers who admitted they would not report War Crimes... What the heck is going on?  Thus, to try to sort of “Break the spell” - the 9/11 fever as Obama called it - I not only offered to do a peace demonstration in Iran, but even offered to do a peace sit (like Greenpeace does when trying to bock shipments of radioactive waste or WMD outside a Nuclear facility or military base) right out in front of whatever nuclear facility the US would attack first in Iran.  I literally don’t know what else to do and thought that  perhaps the US would think twice if its own citizens stood in opposition to their tyranny and the potential start of WWIII.  Hirsh from the New Yorker said that this administration WANTS to use small nuclear weapons on Iran and they have threatened to resign in protest over such an outrageous proposal.

So yes, I fully would do my best to try to do some kind of peace protest or peace sit IN IRAN itself!  I sent letters to every celebrity, Metal Band, and news organization I could think of but got absolutely ZERO responses.  My hat is off to you if you can organize one or know someone who can.  My contact information is in the back of my book and be rest assured ID BE THERE IN A MINUTE!
Todd, New Orleans, LA (Sent Wednesday, June 27, 2007 1:11 PM)  You're like a puppet on a string.  You won Huh?  So somehow you have proven that current Christian radicalism is more pronounced and dangerous than current Islamic radicalism?  I have not seen you come even close.  Come on admit it, you don't even want to go there anymore, you know it’s ludicrous, and probably wish you never made the claim.  Your desperate and idiotic attempt to bring physics into the discussion has blown up in your face.   I’m not sure what your obsession with null is, but I suspect it has to do with the state of your intellect which could be represented mathematically with the Null set.
DEAR COUNTDOWN WEB MODERATORS, PRODUCERS, KEITH,

YOU HAVE TWO PEOPLE HERE WILLING TO DO A PEACE DEMONSTRATION IN IRAN, CARE TO JOIN US... OR WOULD YOU RATHER JUST COMPLAIN ABOUT THE NEXT WAR ONCE IT BEGINS?
Scott, I have to admit nothing.  That's the benefit of winning, Loser.  I bet your coaches loved you.  Have some grace in it.  On top of all your shortcomings, being a bad sport is probably the most childish and annoying.  And as for the obsession with "null" and you totally missing the joke (and everything else it would seem), well that just shows you also have no short-term memory on top of your other numerous failings.  Buh-bye.

Come back when you want to answer the question about Dick.  You can team up with James or W.Young or any other of the Kool-Aid Krew if you like.  While it won't improve your odds, it might make you look like a genius in comparison to the rest of your team.  Now there would be a dubious distinction, but hey, distinction leads to status, so you go, boy!
C Eldridge - please see my post re your position in the other thread.

I have grave concerns about your actions.

Look forward to your response on that thread.

Thanks,
Chris - it's never been about building all those weapon systems - it's about shovelling taxpayer dollars to all those defense contractors who just so happen to be major campaign contributors.

We consistently outspend the entire world - for what?  How many weapon systems do we need to turn this world into a smoking ball of debris?

Whoever is in power and has war on their mind will always be able to conjure up a boogey man.

We need public financing of campaigns to neuter the effect of campaign contributions in legislation and budgeting.
Sue, there really is a good reason to have bases placed in Italy and around the globe-and it's not just for the awesome Italian food!:)

The war in Iraq not withstanding, we do need to have our troops and support facilities in place in case we do need go into someplace-or in the offense mode.  We'd still need the same amount of military personnel, which still need, more or less, the same benefits and/or pay, regardless of whether or not they are overseas.

That being said, we have considerably drawn down our bases overseas that past several years, particularly in Germany, with a lot of them starting during Bush 41.  Even the command we were at in London just four years ago, where the vice for Commander Naval Forces Europe (CNE), which as sinced changed their acronym, has been consolidated to Naples, where 'the' CNE has always been located.  Matter of fact, that's where I met the late ADM Boorda-he was CNE back then.  I digress!

And yes, it is to show our presence around the world.  I don't see that as a negative-and that may come from my 20 years in the Navy.  Again, the war in Iraq not withstanding, we do need to have a presence, and we do need these countries as our allies (thanks Bush for screwing up that).  I really don't see it as 'Imperialistic,' and I'd really hate for people to start feeling that way because of Bush. Not implying that you haven't always felt that way, I just don't want this to seem as though it is now a negative because of what the Bush administration has done.

I wish I could speak to you in person, because it would be easier to explain my point of view in a conversation vice posting.

PEACE!

Scott, Henderson. Your a complete idiot, have you not noticed that Washington is ran by "Christian radicals" that is most of the reason we are in the postion that we are in worldwide. Your a jack-ass, why not just go roam in the desert, with the resst of your family..
Oh, yea. Just so you all know, I've personally known Todd, NO, for over thirty years. He WILL win everytime. Haven't you learned not to poke the angry bear yet??
Tom, Kansas - From what I've read from Todd, you are indeed a lucky man sir!!
Todd, New Orleans, LA (Sent Wednesday, June 27, 2007 2:34 PM)  O.K. Todd I see you are playing the old progressive game of redefining the meaning of words to suit you.  Loss means win etc., you probably think I have been complimenting you.  I did notice you didn't go there though, I guess you have had enough humiliation.  Tom, you and Todd huh? I kind of suspected Todd was that way - he has kind of an effeminate way about him so easily emasculated and all.  I’ll leave y’all to pat yourselves on the back, or whatever you do.
Tsk tsk tsk . . . homophobic too.  Sorry to disappoint Scotty, but neither of us play for that team.  Not that it would be either relevant to this or most discussions as well as being none of your business.  See how easy it was to get you to take your eye off the ball and foam at the mouth, amateur?  Still can't talk about Dick dumping on the Constitution, eh?  It must have made your blood boil to have Prof. Turley LAUGH at your boy's arguments.  Have fun ironing your brown shirts, snapperhead.  Your skinhead is showing.  Let me say this once, in plain English, so you might understand - No matter the delusion you operate under, I am professionally trained to push people's buttons on top of having a natural proclivity.  Don't forget this lesson, Scott: I can make you dance like a trained monkey.  History has shown this time and again.  But feel free to remain a hate spewing, bigoted, poorly educated and semi-literate jerkwad fascist toady with self-image problems.  I wouldn't want to cramp your style.  Have you considered the possibility that you are a closeted homosexual given the sheer number of times you have resorted to homosexual slurs and innuendo in the past?
"it's never been about building all those weapon systems - it's about shovelling taxpayer dollars to all those defense contractors who just so happen to be major campaign contributors."

I agree Sue!  I personally read where the pentagon did not even want the B-2 Bomber or very large aircraft carriers but that is what congress bought more or less as a jobs program.  It was long speculated that the vaunted new F-22 fighter isn't so good after all and was only chosen over the much better F-23 because Sen. Sam Nun (head of the armed services committee) lived in GA where the F-22 was to be built.  All that being said, building weapons is still building weapons and it is only common sense to know that one day they could be used.

"Whoever is in power and has war on their mind will always be able to conjure up a boogey man."

I like that one very much!  Did you see Obermann's interview with Dean where kieth suggested/wondered if the authoritarians might actually want Osama to exist as that is the basis of the fear and hate they generate???

scott henderson nv

You'll find that young liberals have heard of truth theory in school but have little understanding of it.

I've argued endlessly with atheists about the definition of "soul" only to realize that they had no idea what a semi-colon used in a compound sentence means.

I agree that the Japanese had it coming if any nation can be said to have had it coming.
If you notice the liberals always wish to shift the responsibility for Hiroshima to conservative Republicans and Christians , when in fact the decision was in the hands of a Democrat administration and many if not most of the scientists involved in the Manhattan project were non christian or atheists.

As I said most Liberals have only heard of truth theory, they have little if any working knowledge of truth.
To them an illumination flare is the same as poison  Gas, and Chemlights available at any Walmart are dire chemical weapons and tools of terror.
Jamie - I DO understand where you're coming from and I know it's not just the excellent local food (yum).

However, my point is that we have never ever needed to have a universal presence.  We are the only country that has bases everywhere in the world.

We were all just here in America before then and the lack of having bases everywhere didn't prevent us from kicking Hitler's butt and forcing the Japanese military to retreat back to their own country.

The bases we currently have are from the Cold War days and were necessary to keep an eye on what was going on in the USSR.  We have satellites to do that now.

If there is a time when we need to deploy forces for legitimate reasons, other countries will make their facilities open to us just as we used British and other bases in WWII.

The funds that could be saved would not be from cutting personnel, but from the maintainence of those bases themselves.   Funds saved would be utilized instead to give much needed pay raises to the military and into needed maintainence of our bases here.  On base housing needs serious work done to improve them - friends in the military tell me some of the on-base housing is horrid.

These views on our world military presence are not new for me.  I have felt this way for decades.
Truth Theory, eh?  Well . . . that is just crap you threw out because saying someone doesn't understand "Truth Theory" sounded cool to your semi-educated brain.  It's also funny you keep using liberal like it is an insult.  Let me tell you something about Truth Theory, sport.  Whether you mean the Consensus, the Coherence, the Deflationary or the Correspondence Theory of Truth (and this is not a comprehensive list), you not only misapplied the term "Theory of Truth" by doing so without any specificity, but you did so in such as way as to attempt to hide your ignorance behind words you don't understand that have "loaded value" in the terms of persuasive speech in order to attempt to fool those who bought your pseudo-intellectual bullshit up to this point that you were right despite not presenting real evidence of any sort by tacking the word Theory.  The various Theories of Truths - these are philosophical models used to offer criteria for being considered truthful but not as an analysis of truthfulness itself.  It is a fine distinction I don't expect someone like you to understand any more than I expect Scott to understand that distinction.

Far from enforcing your stance with this "support" for the fascism poster boy, you have shown it is you who don't know what the Hell you are talking about and that you have one goal: to bully the weak minded by using value loaded words regardless of if they are applicable or not.  If you had taken more than the survey course in Philosophy where you learned of Truth Theory, you would know that this is a futile line of attack.  Truth Theory, as a practical matter, is a semantic and academic discussion in a world that operates on the Consensus Theory on a day to day basis.

Have the balls to say you think "liberals" are liars.  What?  It didn't sound as cool as saying they don't understand the Theory of Truth (like it's a unitary or physical theory even, jeez what a maroon)?  Oh, that's right, you are an arch-conservative Neocon puppet.  You don't have any balls and your goal is manipulation, not truth finding in any capacity.  The truth is that you support criminals, half-wit.  This can be illustrated under any Theory of Truth.  The verb choice "illustrate" over "prove" was on purpose and you'd know that if you knew anything about Truth Theory, its variations and applications.  Have a nice day playing with your buddy Scott.  You two deserve each other.
Todd, New Orleans, LA (Sent Wednesday, June 27, 2007 9:09 PM)  Wow Todd you finally admit it a professional button pusher!  An elevator operator, I’m kind of surprised you admit it I didn’t think they were used anymore, but I guess that’s New Orleans for you.  I’ll remember when I visit NO not to turn my back on elevator operators - I thought that lawyer thing was a fraud.     Wayne,  one can argue with liberals ‘till you’re blue in the face, provide them with point after point showing they are wrong, they’re only response is Ad Homonym.   They tend to hang around in blogs like this reinforcing each others flawed ideas, oblivious to fact and truth.

Didn't take you long to google that up. Or did you finally crack a book.
You have little idea of the subject so you claim that anyone else misuses it is without meaning. Scott challenged you and you failed, you strike out blindly and you fail once again.
For a trained Button Pusher you come of more like a drunken chimpanze slapping at the keyboard hoping for a purely random conbination of letters that resembles Shakespeare.
Whats even more pathetic is that at least some of your audience will accept any incoherent scattering of letters you consider a post equal to a Sonnet.

PS
Best get yourself something to treat those burns.
So if only 15 percent of Americans polled approve of our Democrate led Congress, do we get rid of it? I love the way you left wingers think. Must be a real boring life. Also, will you all help scrape the egg from Keith O's face after the way he took on the failed terrorist attack in London. People like you will get us all killed one day. WE ARE AT WAR STUPID !!!!!
