Cheney of Command

Posted: Thursday, June 28, 2007 11:14 AM by Countdown

Some of what we're working on for tonight...

Here's why many Republican senators on the Judiciary Committee might have voted to issue subpoenaes to the Bush administration, giving the effort broad bipartisan support. Previously, they may have been laboring under the misapprehension they hadn't been allowed to do so. Okay, not really, but in an interview with NPR this morning, Judiciary Committee
Chairman Patrick Leahy said that when Republicans had control of the committee last year, and then-Chairman Arlen Specter tried to issue subpoenaes in a similar
matter, Vice President Cheney paid a visit and told the Republicans on the committee they weren't ALLOWED to issue subpoenas, legally. Naturally, they caved under the pressure. Sen. Leahy also said that, by his count, the White House had ignored nine previous requests for documents related to President Bush's warrantless eavesdropping program.

If you think the White House is going to answer THOSE subpoenaes, today was the deadline for the White House to hand over documents linked to Harriet Miers and Sara Taylor in the firing over federal prosecutors. That deadline has come and gone. Guess what the White
House is asserting as its basis for withholding them? Executive privilege. Too easy.

One of the U.S. attorneys fired last year testified yesterday that Attorney General Gonzales considers 5 to 10 minutes an "extensive, unusual" amount of his time to devote to the decision of whether a man should be put to death. Even in a case where a body had not been recovered. That Mr. Charlton asked to meet with Mr. Gonzales, to ask him to reconsider, amounted to insubordination.

NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT
Its Cheney series may be over, but in today's Washington Post we learn how a $2M no bid contract from the Department of Homeland Security ended up costing taxpayers $124M... all of it, going to the company Booz Allen Hamilton, that was merely supposed to fill a temporary staffing hole. This might have been the problem: The paper says taxpayers paid Booz Allen workers hourly rates that ranged from $42 to $383 an hour.

DAN'S DO-OVER
In an interview GQ magazine, outgoing White House counselor Dan Bartlett, with only one week left on the job, shares his one big regret: “There was never a more benign incident that turned into a bigger messaging problem than ‘Mission Accomplished.’ It set the wrong tone for what became a protracted, difficult mission. If there was ever a do-over, that would be
it.” And as for what former Defense Secretary Rumsfeld has said about the phrase/banner? Bartlett continues: “There was a comment Rumsfeld made in one of those books where he claimed that he took the phrase mission accomplished out of the speech itself but that he
couldn’t get the banner pulled down. That’s just wrong. I went back and looked at every draft of the speech. That phrase was never in it.” Countdown thinks many would argue with Mr. Bartlett on his assessment of the use of 'Mission Accomplished' as benign.

GRANITE STATE FOR GORE
Al Gore has the lead in the New Hampshire, and he isn't even running. As for the likelihood of a Gore candidacy, in the Sunday New York Times magazine last week, his daughter Kristin said he describes himself as "a recovering politician ... on Step No. 9 and he doesn't want to risk a relapse."

Among those definitely in the race, Senator Obama kept pace with Senator Clinton's fundraising prowess for the second quarter... something all but unthinkable at the start of this campaign.

WHY DO REPUBLICANS HATE THE TROOPS?
A House hearing yesterday investigating whether the surge in Iraq is working, instead became an excuse for Republicans on the committee to investigate whether Major General John Batiste is a true Republican, because he has criticized the war and their support of
it in tv ads for VoteVets.org. Looking out for the troops, nowhere near as important as looking out for number 1.

Right now I'd like to thank MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski and call her "Best Person in the World" for ripping up/shredding all Paris Hilton news she is expected to read on "Morning Joe." Brava to you, lady! Keith, you should be doing the same thing and even Dan Patrick agrees, as he showed when he needled you yesterday on the radio about Countdown being the best source of Paris Hilton news. She's out of jail now, OK? It's over. She is no longer news if she ever was. Let it go. Thank you. We have Darth Cheney and his intimidation tactics on the Republicans in Congress to talk about. We have a potential constitutional crisis to talk about. We've got Alberto "I Wanna Decide Who Lives and Who Dies...On My Coffee Break" Gonzales still darkening our door. Add a few goofy YouTube videos and some silly contest footage for Oddball, a few weird stories for Top 3 Newsmakers, three of the usual suspects for Worst Person in the World, and you got yourself a show. No Paris needed. Let's go!
C A, those were obnoxious, David Spade bye's.  That last move on was serious though.
Kerri, Marina, CA...thanks a bunch! Of course, it goes without saying that some of my best friends are smart a**es. "24" is one of my addictions, so I'll have to check out the one about Jack Bauer.

THANKS AGAIN!

" Wayne, awhile back I vaguely recall your argument against the validity of evolutionary theory or was it for faith-based religion ....can't quite recall.
"
You are correct in that you can't recall. You assumed that I did not believe in Evolution so the concept of Theistic Evolution went right over your head. Notice that I capitalized for Emphasis.

"I thought Dr. Zaius was the faith-based ape"
Dr Zaius was a politically correct liar and bigot, he already knew about the archaeological findings that proved man had once ruled over the Earth before the showdown at the end of Planet of the Apes. You don't seem to remember things very well at all, unless the more recent remake somehow screwed up the ending. Zaius, like Tod, also knew a great deal less than he thought he did.

The following is a truncated quote.
"I say forget Truth "
A common enough tactic of the left, such as the Wolfowitz interview which the Gaurdian printed to  begin the "blood for oil" mantra.

Time to go for now, carry on carrying on.
We've got Alberto "I Wanna Decide Who Lives and Who Dies...On My Coffee Break" Gonzales still darkening our door.   Tru M., Cleveland, Ohio (Sent Thursday, June 28, 2007 7:33 PM)

OMG too true and well put.  I still can't believe the nerve of that bozo at the hearing relating information from an Injustice Department official that Gonzo spends an extensive time reviewing death penalty cases (5-10 minutes).

Laugh of the day:  Seeing BushCos face (like a sick puppy) at his media moment after the defeat of his legacy Immigration Bill.  Here's hoping there will be many, many more moments like that.

I want one of those moment from Darth Veeper too.  Maybe when the courts tell him to cough up that subpoena'd information.

I would also like to second Tru's accolades for Mika B.  Good job, Mika!  Howard Beale would be proud.  BTW Mika, on Morning Joe, you take after your dad and are by far the smartest person in the room.
Ok - that's it for me guys.

Just wanted to say I've learned so much from all you. Those that agree with me and those that don't. Thanks for the great discussions.

I especially enjoyed those really indepth discussions that were conducted with wit, reason, and without slurs and sarcasm toward those of differing opinions.

Thanks for the memories.

Looking forward to a better world without Bushies littering the place.

Bye.
Wayne:  If you'd been around here a little bit longer, you'd probably get the whole 'ad hominem' thing.  I'd tell you to waste your time looking in the archives for the numerous times someone on here used it incorrectly, or committed it repeatedly-and that would NOT be Todd-but don't-you just might get some egg on your face in defense of someone else.

Just smacking the "Professionally Trained Button Pusher" down for his own good.

I could back track his set to with Scott but if I've gotten the drift Tod seems to have come off with some "Null-A" argument. I may be wrong but I remember that one from the Van Vogt novel World of Null A, I've run across it occasionally.
Anyway Truth Theory and Truth Tables are used in everything from Rhetoric to Computer Programing.

The example I'd mentioned in my previous post is the truth of a compound complex sentence. The main premise can be provably true as a matter of logic (in that case existence of a causative agent , or causation if you prefer ) regardless of whether the rest of the sentence is provably true, if a semi-colon is used to separate the possible qualities of the causative agent from the logical argument that the agent must exist.
Not very well put, but I figure you can get the drift.

Button boy is the poorest excuse for a flame warrior I've run across in years, all ego and no substance.
Today the Supreme Court ruled against racial integration of our schools...Where is Bull Connor? Good Old John Roberts was again the lead Neocon and to quote the Chief Justice: "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discrimination on the basis of race." Huh?...and he even invoked Brown vs Board of Education and said his ruling didn't overturn Brown...yet Brown declares "that the discriminatory nature of racial segregation violates the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees all citizens equal protection under the laws"..."Brown v. Board of Education laid the foundation for shaping future national and international policies regarding human rights." Might was well Repeal Affirmative Action too...So we are back to separate and not equal...White kids get the seats first, the hell with the black kids...why should they get a chance at an equal education...hell, let's just repeal the Civil Rights Acts too that them damn liberals fought for...let's just go back to lynching...them damn blacks aren't people anyway...bet the KKK is happy today...and yes, I was a victim of reverse discrimination once...I survived...and the person of color picked over me ended up doing an amazing job...maybe even better than I could have done...this Supreme Court and Bush and Dick will lead us back to the Dark Ages...

Another sad ruling from the Supreme Court, and the story didn't even make Countdown...Paris did...but I stop watching now after Worst Person...

Remember you cannot wave a banner saying Bong Hits For Jesus, but you can wear a T-shirt stating Homosexuality is a sin, Islam is a lie, abortion is murder. Some issues are black and white! Rulings by the Supreme Court of the Neocons....
Independent:  You can't check out on us now;  things are just starting to get interesting.  Your capacity for dialogue with even  Hope you are not in the part of Texas that has been hit hard with bad weather (you've probably identified your location, but for the life of me I can't remember).

I'm not a huge Scarborough fan (I still remember seeing him sitting behind Bush during Republican rallies in 2004 and wondered how a guy with a "news" show could do that.)  But however conservative he might be, he did good work during Katrina. Of course, anything would be better than Imus, who got good guests but was a major contributor to the whole "journalist-as-celebrity" cult.  So far the show is tolerable and Mika Brzezinski a standout.  Not your token female newsreader.
Something just made me awful sick to my stomach, a thought came to mind about Bushy Boys Presidential Directive. Does it also mean that if Congress tries to impeach him, he could use that and say that he feels it's a threat to our government if they do it? Use it to stay in office and start martial law??? UGHHHHHHH.....
I told you all that they have set themselves up and tonight on Keiths Show proved it while he was talking to Dean.
I will make no apologies for bringing up the war in Iraq, nor my disgust with the whole thing-regardless of whether or not some people believe I am who I say am.

Take into account my own personal connection or not, but see read this link below. Just a few of many that are dealing with this as we speak.

OK, I have been away a while and Scott is still trying to "win" an argument from 2 weeks ago? Todd, please do not take the following as an indication that I think you aren't able to handle your own business(You have shown that you are more than capable of doing just that), but I am a sucker for lost causes.  Cast your memories back 2 weeks...(insert new agey music here)

Civil Liberties.  Yeah, you don't want those pesky non-Christians to be able to take you to court when you round them up and put them in camps, do you?  Christian zealots are DANGEROUS.  As dangerous as any Islamic zealot.  Count on it.

**Scott’s first post on this Thread:
Todd, New Orleans, LA (Sent Friday, June 15, 2007 8:50 PM)  “As dangerous as any Islamic zealot.”   ---- O.K idiot, show me where Christians are advocating strapping bombs to themselves and blowing up authors?
scott henderson nv (Sent Monday, June 18, 2007 1:30 PM)

Scott - Watch the movie Jesus Camp, moron.
Todd, New Orleans, LA (Sent Monday, June 18, 2007 2:32 PM)

Scott - If the documentary Jesus Camp does not help you understand then you need to know what makes a zealot dangerous is not the flavor of their belief but their willingness to suspend their own free will and do what others tell them without question even when it is contrary to the core tenets of their belief system.  So far your Christian zealots have backed a program of lies, fraud, unconstitutional illegality, preemptive war against a country that had no designs on attacking us, greed, coveting the oil of the Iraqis as the Bush family friends in Saudi Arabia (a country that DID attack us) watch their oil fields start to dry up, torture and murder.  You don't have to run through the Ten Commandments to realize that these "Christians" are anything but Christ-like and probably looking at a severe beating if He should return.  I don't care WHICH name you call the God you worship.  If you are willing to KILL for them, you missed the damn point.  And if you are willing to try to impose "Christian" ideals on the populace by rigging the DOJ Civil Rights Division and the other assorted criminal incursions against the Constitution made by this administration, then you are a TRAITOR and probably a Regents graduate  too.  So take your fake "I'm a persecuted Christian" outrage and stuff it, Talking Points Boy.  Christian zealots are as dangerous as Islamic zealots . . . or zealots saying their God is the Only God no matter if that god is Yaweh, Shiva, God, or Thor.  And before you say one more word, I HAVE a fundamentalist preacher at a mega-church in the family and I've heard and defeated all his bullshit too.  I suspect he is far better educated on the theological side of the argument than you are.  Zealotry is a form of mental illness or evil, take your pick, but no matter the source, it is dangerous.
Todd, New Orleans, LA (Sent Monday, June 18, 2007 3:05 PM)

*** Scott, henderson, nv- never replied to any people who gave examples of Christian Extremist violence on this thread, nor did he EVER assert his premise that he was speaking of “Today’s” Islamic Jihadists in terms of violence that is happening “currently”.
Note the use of the derogatory language in his opening salvo. His reply came on another thread the next day.

Todd,  reference to the other thread, and fanatical Christians.  I submit that there are some fanatical Christians who do stupid things, but the difference is in numbers and reasons.  The Christians don’t like abortion, consider it murder and feel compelled to act.  The Muslims go nuts burn embassies and kill people over things like Cartoons.  Were talking about a lot of Muslims, not just a few fringe fanatics.  Look at the recent events in Pakistan, a senior mainstream Muslim has called for suicide bomb attacks against Salman Rushdie due to his recent knighthood in Britton.  I know you are not good at Maths, and ratios as one of your posts recently claimed that 7:3 was 70%, but you should understand that millions of Muslims who believe in jihad and suicide bombings are a little more dangerous than a few nutty Christians.
scott henderson nv (Sent Tuesday, June 19, 2007 11:00 AM)

*We are now introduced to Scott’s assertion that he is speaking of the “here & now” by use of the word recent.  All & all a very reasonable and productive post, until the personal dig contained in the last sentence.

Scott, many people posted that yes, in the present, jihadists are considered by the vast majority of the U.S. population to have committed more acts of violence than radical Christians in terms of “the present”.  Perhaps one of the more eloquent of those posts was made by C.A. who defended your amended proposition, “…But Scott, I will agree there does appear to be many more Muslims going nuts and killing innocents at this time in our history then Christians going nuts and killing innocents. Maybe in the next century the tables will turn, who knows. They have in the past.”  Technically speaking, you did lose the argument.  After being presented with examples of violence in the name of Christ, which in and of itself is sacrilegious, you begin to use the “what I meant was…” argument.  Putting the debate regarding religious violence into a nice, neat little “now” time frame is impossible.  We do not exist in a vacuum, and time is immense.  For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, that is a law of Physics (Newton’s 3rd actually) which can be applied not only to force, but to fanaticism, and revolution as well.

I hope you all have a lovely evening.
Would Countdown mind telling me how it is possibly 'breaking news' that Paris Hilton is 'boring'?  Why do I doubt that Countdown is just learning this now?  More to the poiint, why do we keep wasting time on this woman who has absolutely no redeeming societal value except titillation?  Oh, wait, now that I say that, I guess I do get it.  But maybe it's exactly what we should expect.  After all, it's about the same level of tastefulness (and interest) as the quasi-dirty (and boring) stories Countdown insisted on telling on the Letterman show last night.  I really think Countdown can do better if it wants to.  Sheesh.
Bonnie:  It was a joke.  I really laughed so hard considering how aprropriate it was.  All the networks used that Breaking News interruption for every move in her case.  Last night CNN broke their coverage of a real issue for breaking video news that she had arrived in a car at Larry King's studio and cameras followed her inside, etc. and got panned on the Huffington Post for doing that.

On another note:  Has anyone besides me noticed that Rupert Murdock bares a striking resemblence to Pruneface in the old Dick Tracy cartoons?  Could they be the same?  After all, their both villains.
Ahhh Wayne, in reference to the professionally trained button pusher, he obviously does his job well, hence the diatribe that has been going on for well over a week.

I'll admit that I myself like to 'get into it,' but seriously, let's move onto something else to 'get into.'  Perhaps you can give us your take on global warming, as that was the 'it' thing a few weeks ago.

Trust me, there is no moral high ground here and no one upmanship  that will work.

So, let's move onto another subject that we can all go tit for tat over, K?  K!

PEACE!
Independent this ride is made way better with you as a part of the posse amigo and "we aint's got to show no stinkin badges."
Dear ya right, Denver - My apology this morning was very sincere, as after reading your post to me, I re-read what I wrote and it most certainly could have been inferred as sarcastic; therefore, I apologized to you.

I learned nearly 12 years ago; when I am wrong, I must promptly admit it, which is what I did.  I also learned nearly 12 years ago, “I am powerless over people.

Therefore, I can only clean up my side of the street.
I try my best to follow this rule every day of my life, while failing at times. Again, I am sorry you took offense to what I wrote, as I was attempting to explain what Todd meant; however, it was not my place to do so.  Therefore, I apologize for that also.

There is nothing else I can say, nor will I.  If you choose to accept my apology, that is certainly up to you and well within your right.  Should you choose not to, again, I am powerless over people thinking, or ability to forgive, as I have no control this.  I have done my part in cleaning up my side of the street and will move on.

Thank you.
Dear Wayne,

When you are addressing your post to "educate" a person with whose point you are refuting, clarifying, etc., address it to the correct person.  Otherwise, you only look like a posturing boob. It was TERRY not PAM dear in regard to the evolutionary theory & Dr.Zaius post. Or maybe you are Larry King. You know he has trouble differentiating between people too.
"Scott - If the documentary Jesus Camp does not help you understand then you need to know what makes a zealot dangerous is not the flavor of their belief but their willingness to suspend their own free will and do what others tell them without question even when it is contrary to the core tenets of their belief system"

From wikipedia
"According to Ron Reno of Focus on the Family, "The directors' claims that they were simply trying to create an 'objective' film about children and faith ring hollow. I don't question the motives of the Christians shown in the film. Indeed, the earnestness and zeal with which the young people pictured attempt to live out their faith are admirable. Unfortunately, however, it appears that they were unknowingly being manipulated by the directors in their effort to cast evangelical Christianity in an unflattering light."[7]

"
Never seen it, but perhaps you can fill us in on the scenes where Christian kids are taught how to build bombs and behead hostages.
There are numerous instances of Muslim TV stations in the middle east showing just that sort of training for children no more than six, and Muslim children acting out the beheading of Nick Berg.
The most famous "Christian Terrorist Bombers" were Eric Rudolph and Timothy McViegh. McViegh was an avowed Agnostic, who only made one obscure reference to belief in God AFTER he was caught and faced the Death Penalty. Eric Rudolph refused the Bible his own mother sent to him in Prison, stating that he prefered Nietzsche.

I've even seen articles trying to paint the Ruwanda Genocide as the fault of the Catholic Church, because a couple of Nuns and a priest were charged with facilitating ONE of the hundreds of massacres.
The Victims as well as the killers were all Roman catholic, no holy war there. A Vatican emissary was murdered when he tried to intervene. The motive of the killers was pure Black on Black Race Hatred which predated the first influence of any aspect of European society much less the Catholic Church.

I've mentioned before that the OSS report on "The NAZI Master Plan" to destroy Christianity is available in PDF format from Rutgers University.
While Religious Intolerence played a part in Hitler's schemes his Pseudo-Scientific Darwinian Racism coupled with Eugenics was the driving force.
Something like 7,000 Christian Priests and Ministers were rounded up and sent to concentration camps. Catholic Priests who denounced his Euthanasia program were beheaded.
I could go on, and no doubt I will have to just as soon as someone posts a quote from one of Hitler's propaganda statements supposedly proving he was a Christian despite the fact that everyone else on Earth had that lying bastard pegged by 1939.

Nope Buttonboy failed though he'll never even realize it much less admit it.
i understand that cheney had a colonoscopy and the doctors found a brain tumor.  that explains a lot.

Always trying to rewrite the laws of the land I see.
Political Correctness is not the Law of the Land.
Saying homosexuality is a Sin is no more offensive as a matter of Law than Saying Drinking , or gambling , or fornication is a Sin.
Much of Islam would have to be a lie as far as non Muslims are concerned, whether you are Christian or Atheist.
Some Issues are Black and White, without shades of Grey. Raping Children is wrong regardless of any supposed extentuating circumstances, would you not agree?
Nothing on that T-Shirt rises to the level of Fighting Words or exhortation to commit violent acts.
Nor do they qualify as Hate Speech.
If you'd read the Opinion I posted earlier you'd know that.

"Bong hits for Jesus" on the otherhand is an exhortation to commit a crime in most if not all localities in the US. Smoking pot is still a crime, especially when the smoker is a juvenile.
"``They are free to devise race-conscious measures to address the problem in a general way and without treating each student in different fashion solely on the basis of a systematic, individual typing by race,'' Kennedy wrote."
So by throwing out an outmoded law that discriminates against individual students because of their race, be it white, brown, black or whatever, the Liberals are enraged.

The Liberal decries "Racism" yet constantly bewails the actions of "The Whiteman", as if every "Whiteman" shared the responsibility for the actions of a few often hundreds of years in the past.
The Liberal decries Racism while never acknowledging that color based racism was a direct product of the Darwinism they embrace so freely, nor do they recognise that Abortion, which they tout as an unquestionable right, was the prefered tool of the Eugenics crowd in thining out the Black population of pre WW2 US.
It just occured to me.

Its like Clinton's saying that it depends on the definition of "IS".
Todd claimed that Christian "Zealots" "ARE" Dangerous, based on his miconceptions about such incidents as the Abortion Clinic Bombings and of course the very common confusion brought about by the Neo-Pagan "Christian Identity" movement which has no actuall relationship to Judeo/Christian Beliefs, as the FBI Meggido Report dealing with various pseudo religious racist and political organizations reveals.
http://permanent.access.gpo.gov/lps3578/www.fbi.gov/library/megiddo/megiddo.pdf

"Christian Identity" Denies practically the entire Bible and claims that the Jews are imposters. The most virulent of these pinheads base their entire ideology on one book of the Old Testament. None seem to know anything about Christ other than the name which they misuse as a cover for their activities.
Only a non-Christian would fall for the ruse.

By using the word "Are" Todd the button monkey made any appeal to historical examples irrelevant to his argument.

BTW
One such pseudo-Christian organization went by the title "Church of Jesus Christ Christian". They lost the trademark to that title as partial compensation in an assault case.
You can name your cat Christian if you like, that won't make him a Follower of the Teachings of Christ any more than naming him Willy Mays would make him a Baseball player.

When you compare the life and teachings of Mohamed as recorded in the Hadiths to the life and teachings of Christ as recorded in the Gospels there is no contest.
Mohamed not only encouraged violence he lived by it. He ordered mass executions and mutilation murders. His men robbed caravans and massacred the travelers, then bragged about it. Its all there in the same hatefilled pages the Mullahs use to indoctrinate the pupils of the Madrassa.

Get real people.
Gee, Wayne.  I sure am glad that you think your opinion of me matters to anyone but yourself.  You couldn't smack down a duct-taped baby much less make me think you are anything but a fascist tool at this point.  Feel free to continue to cut your own throat though.  It's funny.  For the record, my hero, Kurt Vonnegut HATED the semi-colon.  I still use it.  If compound sentences pose a problem for you, might I suggest the literature choice of your hero, "My Pet Goat".  It has nothing but small words and simple sentence structures.  As for being a poor excuse for a "flame warrior" (what are you, 12?), I certainly pissed you off.  You should really stop dancing now unless your button is stuck.  'Nuff said.

Christina.  With all due respect, it only takes one fanatic of any flavor with the wrong weapon to kill us all.  This isn't 1095.  Chosroes II and Pope Urban II didn't have access to nuclear weapons, modern chemical weapons, or live in the day of garage scale genetic engineering.  If you don't think Scott (and people like him) would be willing to use any of those against anyone Muslim, or other "non-believers" who do not do what the zealots want - guilty of something or not, you haven't been paying enough attention to his level of zeal.  He has been exposed as an angry, conflicted, hateful, xenophobic, homophobic, fear mongering tool who is willing to kill anyone who disagrees with him or challenges his very narrow world view.  Wayne may or may not be that far gone, but he is probably unsalvageable too.  And I have a guy in my family that makes these two look like moderates.  No, Christina, it isn't safe to turn your back on any zealot of any religion at any time in history.  Especially now.

Since some people cannot get the hint and lose gracefully, I am putting a moratorium on replying or answering statements and questions regarding this topic, friendly or not, until some focus returns.  The focus needs to be that we have an unconstitutional traitors in the White House and DOJ who need to be put on trial and hung from the neck until dead, not Jesus vs. Mohamed.
Independent: This is not good! We have established a nice relationship here and you are right in the middle of that core of folks I hope to see on here when I enter the Blog. In fact, if the time ever comes where several folks on here bow out then I shall do so myself. Regardless of the posiitons taken or the arguements, and yes, at times the bashing and name-calling, you are one of those people that brings some light into my life when I see your name pop up on a post. I understand your frustrations but don't let them get you down. You are part of the family. If you really do have to go I understand but I am asking you to reconsider even if your were to visit now and again. It will be interesting don't you think to see how things play out in the future for you and me and others here and this country while we all watch on and share. As far as the comments some people make to others and the name calling I look at it as two teenage kids getting into a squabble. You just have to slap them down a little now and then (nothing harmful), allow them to be the brain dead folks that they are for a bit, and one day they will grow up to be shining examples of common sense and fair play. Kind of like raising teenagers don't you think. In any case, I do wish you would stay especially as you appear to be your own person, not too far right or too far left but "Independent". And you know those on the far left and those on the far right will continue to squabble with little compromise and/or respect for the fact that yes others can have different beliefs and positions, and will eventually take this country down into the abyss. For this is where the intolerance originates (from both sides). So you see we need more folks like you before anything real positive can be accomplished in this country.
Re:not grading for spelling, this is a professional news site and as such should have professional standards.  I wouldn't lay into a commenter about spelling or grammar (unless they were really annoying me) but the main article should be held to Webster's and Strunk and White.

And, Independent, dude, don't leave us.  I haven't been hanging out here long but yours is a voice of reason that I for one appreciate.
Jim Schulte, Albany, Oregon, With all they have done and sometimes I've always thought there is no way that these two deserve to be killed, it's to easy for them they should be in jail for the rest of their lives all of them. Not just Bush and Cheney but all the ones that have been with the republican party in the background for decades, of course those who are still living. This even includes those who are part of think tanks PNAC, AEI, Claremont Institute, Heritage Foundation. PNAC members include Wolfowitz, Jeb Bush, Dan Quale, Scooter Libby I'm sure those names ring a bell. These people get together and CONSPIRE and plan their next steps. They are always one step ahead of us which really sucks and has put us in a bad position against them if we have to. Here is the link to PNACs site..

Pam Bignardi, San Pedro, California
I see you still do Todds bitting for him. What did he won? afree ride on the elevator?
Why do you take what people say to Todd so personal?
say what...I don't think Pam does Todd's "bitting"...and Todd doesn't need anyone to do his "bidding"...since biting is a private thing, Pam can "bite" whoever she wants too!!!
Please keep in mind that a President can be impeached even after he leaves office.  Check it out.
Todd is of no importance, his flawed claims are also of little importance beyond the fact that they reveal a tendency for Liberals to become apologists for terrorist scumbags.
When Button Monkey tries to climb above his station he just shows his @$$.

And yep that was Terry instead of Pam, must have looked more like something she'd say. Since so many Libs march in lockstep these days they've begun to lose individuality.
Thats the major problem with political correctness, not everyone can be right so if everyone thought exactly the same thing then everyone would be wrong.

As for those who dis Christianity and embrace the Theory of Evolution as the answer to the origin of life, that would make you all Mutated talking Apes like Dr. Zaius with the pseudo-science he worshipped.

Posted that earlier but it seems it got lost.
Christina, Helena, AL (Sent Friday, June 29, 2007 12:00 AM)  Christina, since you brought Newton up, did you know he was a devout Christian?  I’m done with this Christian/Islam fanatic argument, when you guys deny what is so obviously true you show your true colors.
Wayne, M'town TN (Sent Friday, June 29, 2007 5:56 AM)  Damn Wayne it’s nice having you around!  You forgot to mention that Mohamed was a pedophile, a while back a group of Muslim clergy (or whatever you call them) were embracing this fact and encouraging its practice.
Wayne...Muslim in not a lie to many
non-Christians...why would it be? Your xenophobia knows no bounds...so you are convinced the Christian God is superior to all others, like no one has ever corrupted Christianity...and show me where the Bible say homosexuality is a sin....the Bible does not even contain the word homosexual, homosexuality, or gay...so your God is homophobic...explain to me why God and Jesus are homophobic?

And my point was the Supreme Court had no problem saying hate speech is fine on a T-Shirt...but the Court censored Bong Hits for Jesus...the
student states in the lawsuit he was not advocating drug use...he saw the statement on a skateboard... so the Supreme Court can censor language about "illegal" topics...by extension, we cannot talk about murder? Murder is illegal. If the banner said Murder for Jesus, it would get censored too? Like no one over time has murdered in the name of Jesus...I don't by the pot is illegal argument so ban the banner...where does the first amendment state you can only talk about legal issues? What happened to free speech? I will only censor one topic, actually two: hatred and intolerance, especially in the name of religion, any religion.

The t-shirt saying some issues are black and white was about the issues on the shirt Wayne...Muslim is a lie is not a black or white issue for anyone but someone who is xenophobic...Homosexuality is a sin is only black and white to bigots and people who are intolerant...I totally disagree about the t-shirt not meeting the hate speech exception...Muslim is a lie insults a billion believers and encourages hate. I bet if the t-shirt said Christianity is a lie, you would be incensed...live in your black and white world...I will live in my gray world, a tolerant world...

Darwin and racism...I have no idea what you are talking about...I guess I didn't get the racism gene...seems I got the tolerance gene common in evolution and the animal world...evolution promotes tolerance too Wayne...Tolerance...it is a great thing Wayne...Jesus was tolerant until some Christians made Jesus homophobic and racist...get real Wayne...

Kafka and Faulkner loved the semi-colon...

Stick around, I'm not nearly as gruff as I might appear just, giving Buttonboy something to think about.
Earlier on I warned these folks about what happened when Ulysse's crew got curious and finally got the Windbag opened up. They got trashed and set back to where they started just like Button Monkey's flawed argument.

The delay in seeing posts is an agravation. It doesn't bother me that much because I'm at or near this station just about any time day or night. I only have a minute or two to post otherwise each post would read like War and Peace and the site would run out of Bandwidth, even if George Soros was picking up the tab like he did for so many sites in 04.

Actually I'm a very jovial sort in realtime. I contribute humorous dialogue and suggestions for scenes to Independent Film Makers and the occasional Journalist.
Around my neck of the woods everyone rags each other unmerciful, I expect its that way in Texas since so many Texans are decended from Tennesseans who upped stakes at the end of the Civil War, mainly to keep my ancestors from hanging them as traitors, the old GTT.

Nothing I like better than coldfacing some tourista and watching them squirm.

Not much substance on most of these threads, got to flesh 'em out some, get 'em thinking. Otherwise they'll be no competition at all come Election time.
They spend far too much time alienating the vast majority of the voting public with that PC crap.  They also forget that Magazine Polls don't trump  elections.
Independent:  Things are just getting good - you absolutely can't leave.  I look forward to reading your posts among others.  Just ignore anything that upsets you.

I bypass the Kool Aid posts, for example.

With all the subpoenas flying, you gotta stay with us for the fun.  The long national nightmare is starting to end.  I see a little light where the sun is starting to rise.  Soon it will be morning in America. You have to be part of that.

Hammond you are losing it.
The T-shirt said Islam is a lie, not Muslim is a Lie.
Islam is both a political entity and a religion, not just a religion.
I wouldn't give a rat's patootie what you displayed on your T-Shirt, I've seen much worse, believe me.
Since you are acting as apologist for Islam this evening how about explaining this.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/interview/trailer/

And the point was not that some muslims might go off the deep end, they do that over seeing a woman's bare ankles. The point was that according to established law the T-Shirt was not considered offensive to a religion because it did not depict a major religious figure in a denigrating manner, which was the standard of the time.
Your hoping it was illegal is not important. You are trying to judge the case based on Canadian Law not US Law. You aren't a judge, and you don't write the laws.

"Damn Wayne it’s nice having you around!  You forgot to mention that Mohamed was a pedophile, a while back a group of Muslim clergy (or whatever you call them) were embracing this fact and encouraging its practice.   "
Mentioning it would have only gotten some of these people excited. Can't have them gumming up their keyboards now can we.
Wow.  You are just plain crazy, aren't you?
Did anybody see what Coulter told O'riley last night? She said that she hopes Edwards get killed by terorists. Does that make any sence anymore? Does even get what she said? she HOPES he get killed during an terrorist attack means that has do be another terrorist attach in the USA right. And she hopes for that? O' Riley didn't do anything, are guy's in the media so taken by her that none of them put her in her place? Now you can get fired for maken racial remakes but saying that she hopes we have another terrorist attack so Edwards get killed is ok? I been watching all day for somebody to say anything about it. But either you all missed it or you agree with her. Which one is it here?
Wayne...sorry my typo threw you off...and we disagree about what hate is...and I am not defending Islam, I don't have to defend a religion of peace...If a student tried to wear a t-shirt stating Christianity is a Lie, and the case went to the Supreme Court, the Court would ban the saying...no doubt in my mind...if you cannot see why saying Islam or any religion is a lie is hateful, there is nothing I can say...Why can't you accept Islam? The radical fringe who have perverted Islam are not the majority...do you know any Muslims? Interact with any? If you did, you would know Isalm is not a lie...Most Muslims are not suicide bombers...just like most Christians don't blow up Planned Parenthood Clinics...and I don't defend jihad Wayne. But Islam is so much more than the twisted group of fanatics who have pervert the religion...you are just blind to it...
Wayne & Scott - Your hatefilled bigotted posts prove nothing but exposes your own weaknesses. Tsk, tsk your ignorance is showing. It's beneath me to even try to defend my religion to such morons such as yourselves. You must sleep well at night basking in the glory of living such fulfilled "Christian" (no offense intended to true Christians) lives.
A, Los Angeles (Sent Friday, June 29, 2007 7:20 PM)  PA, if you can point out factual errors in what I post please feel free to point them out but please be specific.  If I make a factual error I want to be corrected, I don’t like to make the same mistake twice.
Bonnie, there's only one thing worse than yet another Paris Hilton story, and that's yet another "concern troll" echoing the dislike of the true Countdown fan while secretly hoping and praying we all jump ship and convert to Bushism because of it. Give it up, dearie. Not gonna happen.
Wayne and Scott - I must say you two are behaving very foolishly when you denigrate The Prophet in such a truly despicable manner.  There are Muslims that would take your slanderous remarks much more than seriously.....are you guys completely nuts in your monumental arrogance or just blissed out on your own self-importance?  The Buddhists would let similar remarks go should they be directed toward their illustrious founder - because of their devotion to the concept of compassion.  Devout Christians might also ignore such heinous and blasphemous insults being slung at Jesus based on the same principle of compassion and forgiveness - as you've already noted on numerous occasions, some Muslims aren't so good at turning the other cheek.
