BROWN V. CAR BOMB

Posted: Friday, June 29, 2007 12:47 PM by Countdown

Some of what we're working on for tonight...

In his second full day in office, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is dealing with his first crisis: a car bomb in Central London, not far from Picadilly Circus, that police were able to diffuse overnight. The timing, the BBC points out, comes not only in the wake of the transfer of power but also with the anniversary of the July 7 attacks approaching.

TURNING BACK HISTORY:
Two things seem certain in the wake of yesterday’s Supreme Court decision to overturn Brown v. Board of Ed., the Justices having ruled that schools can no longer use race as a factor in fighting – of all things – discrimination: That Justice Anthony Kennedy is the court’s new key swing vote, and that late Chief Justice Earl Warren is rolling over in his grave.

RACE AND THE RACE: The Supreme Court ruling, coincidentally falling on the same day as the first presidential debate designed to focus on minority issues. Of course, the train wreck quotient would have been a lot higher had the Republicans been debating instead of the Democrats.  Senator Barack Obama pointed out that he owed his entire candidacy to affirmative action: "If it were not for them,” he said “I would not be standing here." But reporters in attendance say that, once again, Senator Hillary Clinton
drew the biggest response, for her observation that AIDS had hit young African-American women particularly hard: “If HIV-AIDS were the leading cause of death of white women between the ages of 25 and 34” the former first lady said, “There would be an outraged, outcry in this country."

STOPPING THE WAR, TAKE TWO: The folks at the Politico report that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are poised to announce another “coordinated effort” to end
the war in Iraq by forcing votes on the issue throughout July. Countdown would like to point out, in
advance, that voting would not seem to be the problematic portion of any Democratic effort on Iraq.
It’s actually having a spine once the White House starts threatening vetoes on said legislation and
otherwise bad-mouthing the Democrats.

WEB OF INTRIGUE:  So if pro wrestler Chris Benoit didn’t change his Wikipedia entry to mention his wife’s death – hours before authorities discovered the body and that of their seven-year-old son – who did? Just the latest development in a story as fascinating as it is heart-breakingly sad.

Hypocrisy meet Hypocrisy!! - Methinks the lady doth protest too much.  Assuming you are a lady . . .
WOW!!!That may be the most dishonest piece of "reporting" I've ever seen come from the sportswriter turned democRat hit man.  Overturned Brown v. Board of Ed.  Not even close.  Some of the posters on this blog are obviously on drugs.  I could spend a whole day debunking some of the junk posted here.  But I have more important things to do...like sorting my sock drawer.
People, there is no talking to Bush Supporters aka NeoCons, and arguing with them gives them a rush of some sort, ignoring them is the best way to go. Just my observation while dealing with them for years now. They love the name calling stuff, also gives them a ego boost.
Brenda/Deltona 9:59 - so true - the more we respond to that crap, the more fleas we seem to pick up.  Just as everyone is entitled to their own opinion, we are just as entitled to bypass them and move on to the next post.

I enjoy reading most of what is written here, but it only takes a few posts to realize who's who and know who to pass by.  Jamie, Pam, BA, CA, Independent, Todd, Tru, Steve and many others always get read.  Then, there are those other ones .... that I pass right by.

If I want talking points, lies and nonsense I can talk to my neighbors in this Repugnikant area.  They have plenty of them, too.  Cars loaded with Bush/Cheney bumper stickers.  People who think that supporting the troops means putting one of those yellow ribbon Support the Troops magnets that are made in China on the back of their Hummers.  You know the kind.  So I choose to not get baited here.

I get enough, too, when I watch the Tony Snowjob news conferences with so much spin and so many lies that the room must be in another dimension in space.  I wait for whatever zinger Helen Thomas lets loose and then enjoy watching Tony turn red and verbally stumble trying to dream up some BS response.  Makes my day.

I recommend others do the same.
Your snide reference to the two London bombs as "so-called bombs" betrays a deep bias against the truth. The British police say they are bombs, the NY Times says they are bombs, all the news media I saw Friday night said that they are bombs.

Why is you in denial? Your guest, a former CIA employee (janitorial staff, perhaps?) and an "expert on terrorism" kept pushing the line that these London bombs were somehow trivial and insisted that the only real bombs were in Baghdad. This was London, for God's sake! These were explosive devises! Even my daughter, who wasn't watching the broadcast but heard him from the kitchen, though that he sounded like a jerk.

In case you've never witnessed a propane tank explosion, let me tell you what I once saw. A car on an elevated highway caught fire after an accident. There was a propane tank in the trunk of the car. The firemen kept back but continued to spray water on the car. Suddenly, there was a 50-foot geyser of flame, a super-hot blowtorch of fire shooting up into the sky. It lasted about 20-30 seconds.

Now put that same car on a London street in front of a night club with 1,700 people inside. And multiply the number of tanks. Not a pretty thought.

It's obvious that you hate the President and his administration of the war on terrorism. That's your right. And you certainly have your reasons. But don't let that hatred warp your perception of the facts. Terrorism is real; baseball is a game. If you can't tell the difference, go back to reporting sports.
Watched your show Friday night-another night of smirking about "terror attack" in London. Today- Scotland. You and Rosie are right. No terrorists. Just President Bush  and the British government lying. What did you say? It would have just been a car fire in London. God help us all that so many people believe you.

Brenda - There indeed may be no arguing with them; or debating as I prefer to call it, as I have done my share and concur with you on that; however I personally believe it is a matter of individual choice as to how one feels it is best to handle such people.  Just a thought; however, I also feel it also disrupts the dialogue on this blog when posts are specifically directed to another blogger stating he/she should refrain from responding. “General comments” are fine, but one is out of bounds when they directly address another blogger in attempts to not allow them to speak or vent.

What works for one might not work for another and it is the right of the individual to make that choice.  I personally do not enjoy being lectured to or told who I should talk to or who I should respond to.  This decision is mine and no one else’s.  George W. Bush has destroyed enough of our freedoms and I really don't want another freedom of mine taken away by those who tell me "don't say that".

Just some thoughts....PEACE!!
It is 9:20 Saturday night. Are you going to apologize for your ridiculous interview with your terrorist "expert" from last night? Obviously your "expert" needs to go to Glasgow to see what a "burned car interior" looks like!  Obviously these "yuppie bombers" were trying to make a fuel air explosion- if it had worked it would have destroyed the terminal and most of the people inside.I am one of your viewers-don't insult my intelligence.
Chester Hunnihugger...sure you not Larry??? Have you read Justice Stephen Breyer's dissenting opinion..."This is a decision that the court and the nation will come to regret...As a result, the decision reverses course and reaches the wrong conclusion. In doing so, it distorts precedent, it misapplies the relevant constitutional principles, it announces legal rules that will obstruct efforts by state and local governments to deal effectively with the growing resegration of public schools, it threatens to substitute for present calm a disruptive round of race-related litigation, and it undermines Brown's promise of integrated primary and secondary education that local communities have sought to make a reality"...Can you debunk Breyer's position? Is he on drugs?

Do you really think white schools in the south are voluntarily going to accept black students? They barely wanted to accept black students when they were forced to integrate...George Wallace and Bull Connor ring a bell...1963...47 years ago...and there are many George Wallaces and Bull Connors still in the south and north...Do you really think schools anywhere will voluntarily accept black, Hispanic, Muslim, or other minorities students after this ruling? Blacks have only had the right to vote for 43 years...Brown v Board of Education was 1954...with all the racism in America, to think Brown vs Board of Education has not lost its power with this ruling is naive...Even the NFL had to be forced into changing its hiring policies to ensure teams at least interview black coaches when positions were open...and that was in 2003/2004...How you can think southern schools, schools anywhere, will openly accept blacks students, minority students, after this ruling is beyond me...

George in Dallas...this ruling was about K-12 education...the Louisville case was about a transfer of a kindergarten student brought by a white family...and the Seattle case was about a high school student...while the case my eventually apply to college, the ruling was about K-12...for me college education is a different problem for another day...everyone should be able to get a quality high school education...that was the point of Brown vs Board of Education, separate was not equal...and this ruling will lead back to black schools and white schools...1954...1963...1964, the Civil Rights Acts, wasn't that long ago...2007 looks like a return to our past...

I can get the details, but in a survey in 2000, of 1708 senior executives, there were three African Americans, two Asians, two Hispanics, three Indians, and eight women....18 of 1708 positions were filled with minorities...tell me racism and sexism doesn't exist...tell me blacks, hispanics, and women etc are not capable of being senior executives...The Old White Males Club still exists...I bet the numbers are not that different in 2007...if minority children cannot get access to quality education in high school and with the weakening of Brown vs Board of Education, minorities will never have the same or equal chance whites have to be executives, President, simply get an education...

sorry for the length...
"We are not a theocracy, we do not have police enforcing religious doctrines like the Saudis" - scott henderson nv (Sent Friday, June 29, 2007 10:31 PM)

Scott, the problem is more deep-rooted.  Beginning at infancy, millions around the world are born into a religion or faith.  There are several religious teachings within these faiths. For example, the Catholic Church prohibits the use of birth control and the Islamic faith prohibits drinking alcohol, eating pork and gambling.

What comes to mind regarding this issue is the Catholic Church telling me, as a Catholic, in 2004, I could not vote for John Kerry because of his pro-choice position.  Rudy Giuliani is now experiencing the same.  I feel this wrong.  However I feel about Rudy Giuliani, the Catholic Church, just like with John Kerry, and should not stake a stance as such. The Church is basically stripping voting rights of many Catholic Americans.

Very devout Catholics, who are democrats, did not vote in 2004, as they would not vote for George W. Bush. I know a few people who did not vote in that election based on this.  Many devout Catholics who are republican and support Giuliani will not vote in 2008 if he is the republican candidate.  In my opinion, this is a way of "policing" citizens of this country, even though our government is not a theocratic one.

I am a practicing Catholic; however, I will not allow the Church to take my rights away by stating I cannot vote for the candidate of my choice.  This was unfair to John Kerry and it is also unfair to Rudy Giuliani now.  There are also many traditions in both Church's and faiths and when one follows those traditions to the letter, as Amy gave examples of, this does affect the issues both of you have outlined.

I recall you stating you could be described as an "Agnostic", and because the majority of these "rules or traditions" usually come from organized religions. Had I not been raised by Catholic parents, it might be difficult for me to understand; however do understand what Amy is saying and completely agree with her based on my experiences in the Catholic Church.

Nice blog TP from Va. Also shout out to Murphy from Bklyn, some on this blog will never get it. We are at war with the jihadist's like it or not. Started long before GWB and will last decades. Now after Glasgow these far left losers  will only change the subject, throw insults at people and high five each other with  "great comeback" and crap of that nature, while never addressing the topic. Its like that old Richard Dawson game show with the contestants getting it wrong and their fellow players saying "good answer" even though they screwed it up . The far right is relishing some biblical fight with Islam and left is as always blaming us for every problem on earth. Olberfrau can never seem to get it and though entertaining always has this Greek chorus of guests on parroting the party line. I keep waiting for more puppet theater .... GOD BLESS AMERICA, we need it.
George / NJ :  Well said.  Brown v. Board of Education actually overturned the previous Supreme Court decision (sorry - the name escapes me right now) that allowed "separate but equal" to become a symbol of injustice.  We've now come full circle - for shame.

How long do you think it will be before we start seeing those "white only" signs start appearing?  First on schools and then everywhere.  I thought we were rid of those bad old days of segregation and intolerence.  Are the idiots wearing white sheets next?

The NeoConJobs aren't trying to turn the clock back to the 1950s - they're turning the clock back to the 1550s - and I won't stand for it.
For those of you who are upset with the "so called bombs". Things will come out watch. I'm not going to say what they will or will not do, but I am thinking it will be the same as in the past. Some of you probably do know what I am talking about, so when it comes out I will point it out to you.

Sue, thank you for you comment, I am fortunate to live in a county in Florida that is more democrat than republican, I have been a dem all my life, but also have come to realize most of our law makers are
out for themselves. Dems and Repubs now Independents also aka Lieberman.

Jamie, I just stated my opinion, nothing more. I do however find it odd that so many are now on this blog ever since I started being here. Why is that, the truth is getting so close that they have to come spew their fox news crap? I already knew about Murdoch and his agenda. Name calling is not having a conversation. I may call them NeoCons but I have also heard Republicans call them that, because they are a different breed of what a true republican is suppose to be about, from what I have see and heard anyways.
Oops sorry that last post was for Pam, not Jamie..
George, Hammonton

Just a few miles from my home, within walking distance, is one of the oldest Negro Universities in the United states.
The closest White University was in the next town about 25 miles down the highway, at the time it was for Seminary Students. The closest University that the average white student could expect to attend was 65 miles away.
When our schools were desegregated the Black students in general were not that pleased by the idea since local black schools were often better run than the average white schools.
At the same time several local high schools were condemned due to structual failures. I can't remember a single protest or act of violence directed against any Black students that attended our school, but the Yahoos from the outlying communities who were forced to bus to our schools while theirs were being repaired were a constant source of friction, they resented being bused to a better quality school.

The Black students I remember best were those who lived in my neighborhood, There were far more Black Families in my Neighborhood than Whites and I can't remember a whole heck of a lot of friction because of it.
You'd have had to have lived in the larger cities to see Racial violence, we only saw it on the evening news.

As for the Busing problem, I'd expect that the millions of gallons of gasoline burned in order to shift kids around based on race amount to a tidy sum.  A sum better spent in improving the schools that don't measure up.
Also that burned fuel contributes to dependence on foreign oil, increases gasoline sales, and, if al-Gore is correct, contributes to Global Warming.

As for the trailers used to haul the cars in London, they may be regular trailers, but the Military often uses Kevlar tarps to protect troops while they perform vehicles repairs. The Kevlar sheets are to stop fragments from mortar shells or grenades.

Unless the guys who set themselves on fire in Glasgow turn out to be NRA lifetime members I think we can safely assume this was an attempt by devoted if rather inept Jihadis.

I had posted a Youtube link to videos of Jackasses blowing up stuff with various size propane cylinders, the site filter must have deleted it.
The dumbasses in those videos managed not to kill themselves and some blasts were nothing to speak of, but several blasts were very impressive. The hotter the tank gets before rupturing or being blown open the greater the blast effect.
I expect the London Bomb Makers were unable to obtain explosives eve in small quantities. This speaks well of the effectiveness of the British Police.
Bill and Steve you lose.  It appears there is a Muslim link to the attempted attacks; I guess the IRA could have converted to Islam.  I think that would be somewhat of a stretch.
Marty Murphy, Brooklyn, NY (Sent Saturday, June 30, 2007 12:06 PM)

Go back to FOX NOISE!! If you dislike Keith's reporting, as it is EVER so apparent, why do you watch his program?  I have the same questions for the rest of you here that come to this blog and sling insults at Keith Olbermann after watching his show.

Please, so your daughter doesn't have to use words like "Jerk" and so you don't have to tell us about her, move on buddy!! And the same goes for rest of you that continue living in you neo con boxes waving the Bush flag.

Or better yet, just go shopping, as that's what Bush said would fix everything after 9/11.   I hear Macy's is having a big sale and I’m sure your daughter would love a shopping trip. Yes, that should fix the world buddy.  Have fun!
"Blacks have only had the right to vote for 43 years"
Calm down George. They had the "Right" to vote for much longer than that, and in fact
"An Act

To enforce the constitutional right to vote, to confer jurisdiction upon the district courts of the United States to provide injunctive relief against discrimination in public accommodations, to authorize the Attorney General to institute suits to protect constitutional rights in public facilities and public education, to extend the Commission on Civil Rights, to prevent discrimination in federally assisted programs, to establish a Commission on Equal Employment Opportunity, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That this Act may be cited as the "Civil Rights Act of 1964". "
Was a measure to prevent unscrupulous Democrats from interfering with that Right.
A much higher percentage of Republicans voted for the act than Democrats.
If you look back into the history of discrimination against Black Voters you'll find that the Democrats were almost if not soley guilty of every such example of miuse of civil authority.

Here are some of the reasons why I am worried about the Supreme Court decision undercutting Brown v. Board of Education'

•  36% of new jobs require a college degree;  and additional 31% require some post-secondary education. That is:  67% of all new jobs require education beyond high school.  That statistic shows why it is so important that good K-12 education be available to all children, regardless of race.
•  The median income for HS grads is $31,000;  for college grads, $50,000.  The differential over a lifetime comes to $1.1 million dollars.  No wonder parents and kids are willing to borrow, borrow, borrow to get kids through college.
•  Only 73% of American kids graduate from high school
•  Nearly one of of three freshmen entering college requires extra preparation (usually in so-called "remedial" courses).  One out of three.
•  Of those who go into remedial courses, most fail to earn a degree.  76% who go into remedial reading fail to graduate;  63% of those who take remedial math.

These dismal statistics were gathered for the American Diploma Project, a non-partisan consortium of 22 states (as of my last contact) working to raise high school graduation standards and, it is to be hoped, the quality of education for all students.

As a college writing teacher, I see students with many racial, ethnic, social class and economic background.  Many kids from so-called "good" suburban districts are just as underprepared as minority kids from desperately poor districts.  My point is that students from schools without adequate buildings, skilled teachers, science facilities, computers, books, or classes in the arts are not playing on a level field.  And too often, students are stuck in these schools because their families are too poor to move to another district where there may not even be properties to rent, let alone rent at prices the poor can afford.

The fact is that, as someone once said, "Education is wasted on the young."  Even kids of privilege fail to take advantage of opportunities to learn. But many kids have NO opportunity.  I'll bet anyone reading this can think of schools that he or she would never dream of allowing his or her kids to attend, or neighborhoods that never got a second look because the schools  were not highly regarded or worse.  But  in the views of many, these schools are OK for other peoples' kids.

A few months ago, ABC News had an hour-long show on kids in an urban city in NJ (Camden?) and looked not only at their schools but the struggles of their families to find and maintain housing. The show contrasted the lives of these kids with a group of the same age from an affluent suburb.  There was no way not to see how tremendous the head start is for kids from stable economic backgrounds and good schools.  And that might be the point of the Court's decision.

From the NY Times, on the car bombs in England and Scotland:

"In London, counterterrorism experts suggested that whoever abandoned the two explosives-laden Mercedes might have been what a senior Western official called 'less directed from Al Qaeda and more a matter of a homegrown group,' although their plan seemed to be modeled on terrorist attacks in Iraq.

Several experts and officials said the technology behind the London car bombs seemed amateurish. While the attackers apparently tried to detonate the bombs using cellphones, 'they didn’t go off because there were not top-grade people putting them together,' one Western official said.

If the plot turns out to be the work of a small, unknown  cell, that could raise alarms that Britain’s terrorism threat is broader than the 2,000 suspected radicals known to the authorities.  The Western official said British investigators were pursuing several 'good leads.'

The attack in Scotland also seemed marked by improvisation."
Scott..news flash...Howard is NOT an all black university...Did you know that in 2000, Howard University's enrollment was only 86% black...white folk can attend Howard if they like!!! Whites and other minorities attend Howard and most "traditionally" all black colleges...All Black colleges were started because the all white colleges wouldn't accept black students...

Scott did you know Howard University also now has an traditional all white fraternity of its campus?

Scott did you know that white enrollment in traditionally blacks college has grown about 30% the last two decades...just wanted to expand your mind a bit...
Wayne...Blacks may have technically had a legal right to vote, but a literary test was commonly used to keep blacks from voting...blacks were denied the right to vote because they could not read or write since they were slaves and not permitted access to education...Fredrick Douglas ring a bell...even literate blacks were denied the right to vote...the South did all it could to keep blacks from voting and even used a poll tax to deny blacks the right to vote...and don't forget the KKK used intimidation to keep blacks from voting too...

Jim Crow Laws after the civil started the separate but equal years...hence the Civil Rights Acts and the Voting Rights Act in 1964...

Wayne...What does it matter if the Reps or Dems denied blacks!!! they were still denied the right to vote!!! wake up...blacks have been voting only since 1964...we disagree again...

Linda...I taught English 101, English 102, and Literature at several community colleges for twelve years...got tired of grading essays!!! stopped teaching in 2000...I echo your sentiments...keep up the fight!!!
Brenda - I agree with you and I am a life-long and very liberal democrat.  I use the term neo con all the time.  I agree with your post.  I also believe people's feelings do get hurt, or rights are being taken away, when they cannot respond to another.  I, for one, cannot stand these "newcomers" on the blog and I also agree with you analogy of why more have recently appeared.

I also believe it's because Fox NOISE blasts MSNBC/NBC constantly, in addition to the sinking ship of George W. Bush.  These people are so ashamed and embarrassed by the idiot in the White House they come here and act like blabbering children.  They are so mad they have no other options left!!

I was attempting to state we should all take Sue's advice and ignore them; however, we can also choose to ignore the responses directed at the neo cons if this too bothers us.

I feel very strongly that people should be able to rebut these neo cons if they wish to and should not be chastised for doing so.

I'm sorry; again, I didn't articulate my point very good.  I apologize and I want the neo cons gone too!! I also believe in freedom of speech.

PEACE!!
Scott.  In all my posts, I was clearly asking questions, not assuming any positions.  You answered none of them, and you come back calling ME a loser?  I'd bet you've probably got a bottle of Adderall around there somewhere.  My advice is to find it, and get back to regular use.
Linda - Thank you for sharing your views based on your experience as a teacher.  Your points are right on target and it is a shame that so many people choose to ignore the injustices within our school system in this country.

I wish more people showed the compassion you do for the less privileged. Your statement, "these schools are OK for other peoples' kids" could not be better stated.

Thank you for taking the time to break down the statistics, as I appreciated it very much.

PEACE!!
Gearge Hammond
"Wayne...Blacks may have technically had a legal right to vote, but a literary test was commonly used to keep blacks from voting...blacks were denied the right to vote because they could not read or write since they were slaves and not permitted access to education..."
You are confusing your eras.
Of course Black slaves didn't vote and in many places free blacks were not allowed to vote during Slave days, Literacy had nothing to do with it at that time.
The "Jim Crow" laws came after the civil war and were misuses of civil authority to prevent Blacks from benefiting from their rights under the Constitution.

There were Black voters regardless, the majority of the states didn't use such tactics to prevent Blacks from voting, so your earlier statement was an exageration.
Blacks were not entirely illiterate, some of our greatest scientists and medical researchers were Black and regardless of discrimination Black Universities operated all over the US. No doubt a high percentage of the Black Population were denied their rights but the right itself existed. The Civil Rights Act just made it a Federal matter.

Heres the relevent clause
(Shall not)
""(C) employ any literacy test as a qualification for voting in any Federal election unless (i) such test is administered to each individual and is conducted wholly in writing, and (ii) a certified copy of the test and of the answers given by the individual is furnished to him within twenty-five days of the submission of his request made within the period of time during which records and papers are required to be retained and preserved pursuant to title III of the Civil Rights Act of 1960 (42 U.S.C. 1974--74e; 74 Stat. 88): Provided, however, That the Attorney General may enter into agreements with appropriate State or local authorities that preparation, conduct, and maintenance of such tests in accordance with the provisions of applicable State or local law, including such special provisions as are necessary in the preparation, conduct, and maintenance of such tests for persons who are blind or otherwise physically handicapped, meet the purposes of this subparagraph and constitute compliance therewith. "
So literacy tests were not disallowed so long as everyone regardless of race took them and the rules were followed impartially.
Many people back then learned to read at home before they ever went to school. I have a few copies of the sort of books available for that purpose in those days.
As I mentioned Black schools around here were fairly held to high standards. A Black Child had as good a chance of learning to read as most mountain folk, probably better in some cases.

Also it does make a great deal of difference which party was determined to hold down Black people, especialy in interfering with their right to vote.
Democrats started the KKK and they were the ones who joined it in droves. Still are.
Like I've said before, every virulent Racist I've ever met was a White Democrat or a Black Muslim.
Krista is also a veteran of the essay-grading wars.  But given the stats I quoted above, the most important thing kids can learn to help them both finish college and become conscious citizens is reading.  And not "reading" in the sense of literal decoding, but reading to understand and test out and construct ideas. the "writing" they learn in school is very often writing that can come out of their own heads from their very limited experience. So they have to write and we have to read it.  But with a community college background, you know what I mean when I say that even many middle-class kids leave high school poorly educated.  And looking at our current president, clearly rich kids with Ivy-league diplomas aren't always "well educated," either.  Who could be less interested in ideas outside his own head than George Bush?
George, Hammonton, NJ (Sent Sunday, July 01, 2007 11:00 PM)  Really?  Not sure where you get the statistic, the law school showed 4% white.  I love how you guys use numbers 30% wow?  That means if there were 10, now there are 13!  In two decades – impressive.   God I hated English 101 and 102 which is probably evident.
Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa (Sent Monday, July 02, 2007 1:15 AM)  Jeeeze Steve, get a life.  I didn't call you a "loser".  I said you lost, as in the bet - you selected the IRA, it turns out that was incorrect.  Don't worry I won't send Guido after you to collect.
Hello Scott...the link is below...and if you read closely, the 30% was ALL BLACK COLLEGES and not just Howard...and how can you dispute the numbers..if it is three more people, it is three more people....no manuiplaton Scott...doesn't have to be impressive...but when you apply the 30% to ALL TRADITIONALLY BLACK COLLEGES, the numbers do become impressive...and think Scott, how many whites would really be comfortable at a university that is 85% black? and Howard is not only a Law School....and of the other 15% of the students, the composition was white and other minorities...Howard is only 85% black...

and for the record, most students hated English 101 and 102...mainly because English is only about a quarter of the class...the other 75% is rhetoric and research...building arguments that are hard to tear apart which is incredibly difficult...I can tear apart an argument easily, making one is much harder...

http://cnnstudentnews.cnn.com/2000/US/05/18/black.colleges/
Wayne...one last comment...If you really believe your words "Like I've said before, every virulent Racist I've ever met was a White Democrat or a Black Muslim." there is no point ever talking to you again...I don't think the current KKK is Dems and Libs...
Pam, my point is this from another blog here in the Hole LOL

Keith, as usual, you're a half-wit(as are your ratings outside of Cindy Sheehan's house).  Tell you what buddy, next time we find a "car fire" with a possible device in it, let's send you out to disarm it, since it's obviously a prop planted by Cheney and Haliburton.  Aluminum foil hat, conspricy nutjob poses as journalist. You're a pathetic loser.
John LaPorte, Whitestone, NY (Sent Monday, July 02, 2007 10:07 AM)
Wayne - come on,surely you meant to say White Dixicrat
in the above post ref. racism  ... but they're all republicans now, even old Strom switched over.  Get with the program! I'm really beginning to believe you're not a true centrist afterall...

What we could be seeing here is the new neocon strategy for '08 - just re-invent yourself as a centrist - neither right nor left, just the party of moderation in all things.

Sorry pal, you've outed yourself & that seat's already taken anyway.
The point of literacy tests is to keep blacks, immigrants and the poor from voting.  "Literacy" is always a moving target;  today, what we require from students in terms of literacy is vastly different from the "signature literacy" (the ability to sign one's name instead of use a mark) that was a common standard in the early to mid-19th century.

Originally, the Republican party was established in the 1850s as the party of anti-slavery.  So of course, white Southerners after the Civil War were "Democrats." By the middle of the 20th century, things had changed with Kennedy's and Johnson's commitments to Civil Rights.  The party labels don't matter;  it is the ideology of racial superiority, under whatever name, that goes against the statement, "all men are created equal."

Literacy tests can also be fashioned to favor the dominant cultural group.  Here is an example of how that might happen, taken not from a test but from a simple conversation between a school official and a child, as seen in the ABC documentary I referenced above.  The school official asks a homeless student to name the 3 meals we eat each day.  The kid can't do it, and he of course appears less than intelligent to his questioner.  However, to the viewer, who knows the kid never sees 3 organized meals, the fact that the kids can't say "breakfast, lunch, dinner" or some variation is understandable.

We wouldn't have a voting rights act if people of both parties hadn't attempted to disenfranchised blacks.  You might consider why the entire South has tended to vote Republican since the Civil Rights Acts were passed under a Democratic president.  And from someone who was born and raised in the Republican T of Pennsylvania, I can tell you there have been plenty of KKK people who vote Republican.
I have a question, if it's Al Qaeda "attempting these bombings" in all these other places, and not succeeding at them doesn't make sense to me. They seem to be able to take out our military personel very easy in Iraq with them. Those things were not meant to do anything is why. Nothing was "foiled" because it wasn't the UK Intel that found this out. How convenient it is again, that something would have slid by like this and my reasoning of why this is BS.
If their Intel is also what we went by for other things that were lies also, WHY would we believe anything they have to say either? AHHH POOH!
Breaking News.. GESH this crap is making me so sick to my stomach, I wanna scream... there was a "small container of crude" that blew up this morning at Disney. A real BUSH SUPPORTING COMPANY I MIGHT ADD!!!!! They are reporting it may be linked to the recent terrorist attacks in the UK!!!!!!! I wonder how far they are willing to go, to get people afraid again, since alot have learned it's BS.
Brenda - I saw that and thanks for putting it here too!! We all need a wake up call now and then to see what these neo con Bush loving jerks write!!

Yes, the neo cons are infiltrating this blog, and because they have know other options than to act like blabbering children or come off as completely irrational because they know their ship is not just sinking, it's at the bottom of the ocean!! THANKS!!

PEACE!!
Update, small explosive at 12:30am in a dumpster... Oh, and just a reminder Disney has a no fly zone over it. The statement is still the same about an investigation that it might be tied to the UK car fire and so called car bombs...
High ^5 Pam!!! Thanks for support!
People from Florida should not call anyone a nutjob [sic], a pathetic loser (even by proxy using the words of a fool from New York) or put words into someone else's mouth.  Look at how you "run" elections and save your political criticism for people who CARE about what Floridians think, like that yo-yo Joe Scarborough.

The story wasn't about it being a "prop" CREATED by Halliburton or Cheney.  It is a "prop" being EXPLOITED by people like Cheney to instill undeserved fear to help keep people blind to the White House being run by treasonous, traitorous unconstitutional criminals.  Surely your lot understands the concept of exploitation if not the concept of creation?  Being dismissive of those who want your criminal boys in jail as crazy or "Aluminum foil hat, conspricy nutjob"(s) is NOT going to work.  Bush and Cheney are CRIMINALS.  PERIOD.  Did they plant these car fires?  No.  No one but you Neocon apologists seemed to get otherwise out of the broadcast either.  Why is that I wonder?  Bush Co. did invade a sovereign country that did not attack us to steal their oil for Bush Co. personal profit and thereby provide the perfect recruiting tool for terrorists, competent or otherwise.  That's a fact.

You Neocon fascist supporters are losing your touch if you think saying "You're crazy!" is sufficient deflection to save either you or your boys.  We have enemies abroad, morons, but the biggest threat of all to America is still in the White House.

And they are making it easier for external enemies to attack us: that is what less safe means - not insecure, but unsecured - unable to defend ourselves in a REAL emergency because George and Dick have OUR military stretched to the breaking point playing Private Oil Police.  No amount of attempted deflection can obscure that.  Everyone here wants OBL dead and Al-Quada smashed, but if your solution is King Bush or King Cheney, you are the enemy of America as surely as if you had piloted a plane into the WTC yourself.  Suck on that, fascist enablers.

I would also like to point out that not ONE of you has stepped up to defend Dick yet.  What?  Are ya a scart, puddin'?  Come on, defend him wiping himself with the Constitution.  We are all waiting.  Ignoring the problem won't make it go away.

Not every jihadi learns enough about bomb making to be sucessful in their first attempt.
To be certain of sucess they would have had to have had access to at least a small quantity of an explosive suitable for rupturing the containers, or someone firing into the car from a distance to penetrate the containers.
If the fuel air mixture is too rich then combustion can't take place, the Gas replaces the air leaving none for oxidation.
If the gasoline had ignited then sooner or later the cylinders would have ruptured with the expected house sized fireball earlier reports mentioned, likely killing or injuring first responders trying to douse the flames.
If you'd seen the Youtube videos I mentioned in another post you'd have a better idea of the destruction those Propane Cylinders could have caused.

The level of training of exported Terrorist is dropping rapidly. Those who know what they are doing are occupied in Iraq and Afghanistan. The culls are sent back to whichever Western country they've been residing in to work mischief as the oportunity presents itself.
As long as these pinheads can't get explosives or the chemicals to make them they are much less of a threat.
Had some miner sold one of these yahoos a couple of sticks of Gelignite the Carbombs could have produced a lot of casualties and property damage.
Wayne.  Gelignite?  Way Old-School. You can make that stuff in a Wok if you're careful not to drop a fork in it and get blown up.  In Vietnam, we had C4.  You could cut off a chunk and cook your Canned Entre's of Chicken-flavored Salt and Noodles over it.  The Commies had their version called Simtex.  Both were stable but required a mini-blast to go off (a cherry bomb with a three hundred inch fuse would probably let you get away).  Seeing how many AK-47's there are around the Mid-East, there is probably some Simtex floating around there, too.  The Aussie Guys had a similar thing to C4 in Vietnam called P4.  There probably is some of that left in Mother England.  Of course, by now, there probably is an even newer Kablooey! out there.
Interesting post from a guy in Bankock from another blog.  He had access to both CNN and BBC at his hotel and compared the coverage of the Glasgow car fire on both networks.

He was upset that CNN pre-empted all their normal programming and was exclusively fixated on this one event - in fact linking it to al Quaeda despite any supportive facts.  The BBC covered it in detail as a troubling event but reported the facts and moved on to their other programming.

The poster wondered how it was that one story could dominate our airwaves - a question I have been asking for a long time.  (See:  missing women, astronaut in diapers, Anna Nicole, she-who-must-not-be-named, etc.)

Naw, Brenda, the pipe bomb at Disney was just probably one of Scott Henderson's bored-again 'friends' in retaliation of the fact that Disney wanted to grant some kind of benefits to gays.  Or maybe it was because they hide stuff like the word SEX in the clouds in some of their animations.

THANK YOU TODD!! However, they cannot defend Cheney, therefore just come on this site, and again, act like blabbering children who post meaningless crap!!

Yes, they have Freedom of Speech, and yes, this is an open blog; however, THEY SHOULD ANSWER THE QUESTIONS POSED TO THEM BY MULTIPLE PEOPLE, INCLUDING YOU!!

Therefore, they should exercise their "Freedom of Speech" to defend the "Second Coming of the Devil", or at least discuss Cheney!!

Looking squarely at NEVADA AND TENESSEE!!

PEACE!!
Aluminum foil hat, conspricy nutjob poses as journalist. You're a pathetic loser.

Brenda, I support Freedom of Speech; however, I in NO WAY support your comments directed at Keith Olbermann!! I think you missed my point!!
George, Hammonton, NJ (Sent Monday, July 02, 2007 11:37 AM)  George, you do realize that link was around 7 years old?  I went to the Howard web site, just looking at the pictures one would conclude there are no white students.

You know it is just strange to me that we can talk about a "black" college as if it is nothing, yet if the term were "white" college there would be an uproar.  Too bad we can't just say college - where kids go to educate themselves and just leave race the hell out of it.  The people who profit from racism and do everything they can to promote it are the honorable Reverands Jessie Jackson, and Al Sharpton and of course the Democrats.  Most people I know have accepted the wisdom of Martian Luthar King.  I know I have.
