Countdown Wednesday: Al Qaeda's Resurgence

Posted: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 8:21 PM by Countdown
Filed Under:

The Unsuccessful War on Terror: If, as the Bush administration claims, we are fighting in Iraq so we do not have to face the threat of another terror attack here in the U-S...Why is it that Al Qaeda has been able to regain its strength to a level it has not enjoyed since just before the 9-11 attacks? Our fifth story on the Countdown: U-S Intelligence analysts... reaching a devastating conclusion about the state of the war on terror. Meanwhile, two more Republican senators reaching a conclusion that it is time to get out of the conflict that many believe is distracting us from that fight... the war in Iraq.

House of Scandal: The Scandal Beat doesn't take a break for the White House. President Bush's use of executive privilege doesn't exactly go as planned today so now the White House is making sure there will be no Harriet Miers debacle on the Hill tomorrow. And the Libby commutation issue under the microscope as well. David Shuster brings us all the headlines.

Lady Bird Johnson 1912-2007: No Oddball tonight as we take a moment to remember the First Lady of the 36th President of the United States.

The Myth of "America's Mayor": The image Rudy Giuliani would like voters to have is of Giuliani versus the terrorists. But in our third story tonight, for today anyway, the story is Giuliani versus the firefighters. The International Association of Fire Fighters released an anti-Giuliani video online in which New York Firefighters and relatives of those who died on Septembr 11th offer harsh, emotional critiques of Giuliani's leadership in preparing for the second terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

Death of a Pizza Guy:  It was one of the most bizarre and intricate crimes in recent memory. A pizza delivery guy, with a bomb strapped around his neck, robbing a Pennsylvania bank, apparently as a hostage. The bomb eventually detonating - killing him as he sat handcuffed and waiting for the bomb squad to arrive. Now, in our second story on the Countdown, investigators say they have finally pieced together what happened on that afternoon in August 2003. And just who was responsible.

Harry Potter Hysteria:  "The Order of the Phoenix" is in wide release, and "The Deadly Hallows" is on the way -- which means "Harry Potter Nation" is in full freak-out mode.

I put something about Al Quaeda on another blog GESH!!! I guess I need to wait till it's posted and move it over here.. gesh ya'll are slow! :D
#5:  Perhaps it's time to at least redeploy our National Guard back home from Iraq.  If Chertoff's gut has any say in the matter, we'll need them sooner rather than later.

#4:  Well, now he is ORDERING private citizens NOT to speak.  That would be like the US Navy coming to me now and telling me what to do.  Not really, as the US Navy really is important and knows what it's doing (usually).

#3: Only mentally (and/or morally) corrupt people would still believe in anything Guiliani says.  How else do you explain it?

#2:  Bizzare?  Oh yeah.  Crikey, talk about plans going awry!

#1:  One of these days I'll get there.  My oldest will probably be ready for them in the next couple of years-without the hysteria.:)

PEACE!
This is not aimed at anyone...
Well, I guess they feel the need to go and try to find something to fight, just to keep A war going, we'll move it back to Afghanistan, so we can reap more money, keep the gas prices higher, fill our pockets, and just plain make ourselves look good! Is it possible they are seeing they may not be able to continue being in Iraq under false pretenses?

We should all know the newbies they have in the CIA that Bush and Cheney have put in there are gonna say this BS! AL QUAEDA MY A$$! I'm so tired of this BS..

I said in an earlier post way back they would be doing this.. gawd.. let me try to guess where they just might attack too.. ummm maybe places where they pulled out Haliburton and made a quick exit to Dubai.. aren't there Oil refineries in both places they pulled out from.. damn what a good way to be able to raise the price of oil again! Haliburton is safe and snug with the rest of their cronies the Saudis.. SICK!

Strange, Darth Dick has repeatedly stated that 75% of al Qaeda senior leadership has been wiped out and
al Qaeda has been weaken...guess he just got more bad intelligence...strange, we left Afganistan and Pakistan where al Qaeda and bin Laden are to invade a country, Iraq, that didn't have any al Qaeda or Taliban in the country until Bush, Dick, Dumsfeld, et al, destabilized Iraq...and strange, al Qaeda has reformed and is as strong as ever...what brilliant leadership...

No wonder Homeland Security Czar Chertoff has a gut feeling...but he doesn't raise the alert level, doesn't boost security, says we are vulnerable six years after 9-11...Haven't we made ourselves safer in the last six years under Bush's stellar leadership? Shouldn't we be less vulnerable now, six years after 9-11? Shouldn't we have solid intelligence? Chertoff should recruit some psychics to help augment his gut feelings...brilliant leadership...

Remember Repub Koolaid Drinkers that the Repubs voted against the troops today...voted against allowing our troops to be home as long as they were at war...at least the Dems supported the troops today...
Damn, Keith, you bugged out on us again????

What do we have to do to keep you around????

We'll do it!
Good "Hump Day" evening. Thanks to Amy for filling in for Keith tonight! Maybe he went to see the new HARRY POTTER movie? :) Hell, a part of me is trying to get over that he's read all the books. I'M JUST KIDDING! While Harry's not my cup of tea, I'm glad people of all "stripes" enjoy him, and anything that gets kids to WANT to read is OK by me.

I'm tired of hearing about Chertoff's guts. And, I am sickened by the fact that I think it's going to take another 9/11-esqe attack by Al Qaeda in this country to get it through people's heads and WAKE THEM UP to the fact that this administration has truly bitten the big one when it comes to the "war on terror."

I think David Shuster deserves a medal and then some for keeping up with and clarifying all the ilk that's going on with our government. This all gets really difficult to keep up with, and he does such a great job!

The clips of the firefighters' video that were featured on tonight's COUNTDOWN were so powerful and gut-wrenching. I had tears rolling down my face. But, and I've said this in the past, if any debunking of the Mayor Rudy myth has any hope of effectiveness, these guys and anyone else in a position to do so have to spread the word beyond the east coast and COUNTDOWN viewers. A LOT of people still believe Rudy is "America's Mayor." And, as far as the warning about the "dangers" of playing politics with 9/11, IT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE!! It's a little late for that admonition.

And, I want to end tonight's post by letting you all know that you may not be seeing much of me here over the next few days. No, I'm not being shuttled off to an undisclosed location for my or anyone else's protection. This weekend is my husband and I's 5th wedding anniversary, so we're leaving tomorrow morning for a long weekend in Memphis. While not exactly an "exotic" locale, neither one of us have been there, the trip won't bankrupt us (check local listings for news about the property tax situation in the Indianapolis area!), I get to get the heck out of Indy for awhile, which I DESPERATELY need, my husband can stuff his face with BBQ, and I get to see if Graceland's as tacky as pictures indicate. Our actual anniversary is this Friday...the 13th...GOOD THING I'M NOT THE SUPERSTITIOUS TYPE! So, while I may not be posting for a bit, I will be here "in spirit" and will be back for sure by early next week ready to educate (I hope!), be educated (a guarantee!), inspire (Wouldn't THAT be fabulous?), and, perhaps, pi$$ off (but, hopefully not TOO MUCH).

Thank you all for brightening my days and keeping me on my toes. YOU GUYS ROCK!
I was disappointed to see the stand-in host for Olbermann talking about Giuliani being "swift boated." Swift boating means smearing a political opponent with lies. That's what the original Swift Boaters did to John Kerry. Nothing was presented in the Countdown program that even hinted that the firefighters union was lying about Giuliani's less than stellar performance after the 9/11 attack.  Yeah, they usually endorse Democrats, but that's irrelevant to whether or not they got their facts right. Somehow, I don't think Keith would have let this sneaky Orwellian twisting of meaning slip by him.
#3  Amy you cannot just let people come on your show and allow them to slander without saying anything or doing anything about it.

Chris Cillizza said "Ron Paul suggested that we invited the terrorist attacks of 911."

Have you no integrity at all?
Well its official as far as NYC's  Fire Union goes. Rudy is toast, the IAFF video had Steve Cassidy on it the head of the UFA , the largest firefighter union in the city. Pat Lynch the head of the PBA , the NYC Police union , has already rained on Rudy's parade. Its over Rudy, keep the consulting gig.
On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told the editorial board of The Chicago Tribune that he had a "gut feeling" about a new period of increased risk.

He based his assessment on earlier patterns of terrorists in Europe and intelligence he would not disclose, except that “summertime seems to be appealing to them," Chertoff said in his discussion about terrorists, "We worry that they are rebuilding their activities,"

"The threat coming out of there is very real, even if there aren't a lot of specifics attached to it," one officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Thank God for that warning Mr. Nobody!!

Now, Mr. “Orange Alert”,  I will do as you suggest and be “on the alert;” since your “gut feeling” is based on such staggering data, which you have so comprehensively detailed;  a.) Terrorists like warm weather; and b.) Recent car bombs in England that a second-grade science project could have produced.  Whew!!

Thank you sir, as this exhaustive list is certainly reason for your gut to be on “orange.”  I will diligently be on the alert for:

a.) Suspicious looking Brain Surgeons
b.) Suspicious Men in Speedos With Beards At Beach
c.) Anyone Claiming To Be A Doctor
d.) Suspicious People Offering CPR To One In Distress
e.) Anyone Offering Sunscreen–Likely Liquid Explosive
f.) Anyone Eating Falafels – Dead Giveaway

Rest assured, I will proudly do my part to put your gut in check, in addition to ensuring Americans are protected from such radical behavior and terrorizing eating habits!!
Let's see now . . .
a.) "We're fighting them over there so that we won't have to fight them over here."
b.) "We haven't been attacked since 9/11, so Bush's plan is working."
c.) "Al-Qaeda is on the run."

So if al-Qaeda so much as knocks over a popsicle stand stateside, it means:
a.) That failed miserably.
b.) Whatever the Bush "plan", it failed, potentially catastrophically.
c.) Cheney's been looking through the wrong end of his telescope.

We need something besides "gut feelings" and political posturing from this White House. Unfortunately, ladies and gentlemen, we have been set up by the best friend bin Laden and al-Qaeda could have asked for: the Bush Administration!
Krista Swisher, Indianapolis, IN (Sent Wednesday, July 11, 2007 10:30 PM)

Happy Anniversary and have a GREAT trip!! Also, my parent's wedding anniversary is June 13th (although my father passed away) and their marriage was great!! So, celebrate the date friend!!

I will miss your wonderful posts though!!

PEACE!!
So, Al Queda is back were it was and no Bin Laden capture.  Next they'll be stronger than ever.

THANK YOU, NEO-CONS ALL, DICK CHANEY & BUSHIE
Here in Canada, there was no sound for Countdown tonite. We started watching when we lived in the US and never miss the program. Our lousy cable company is blaming it on the feed from MSNBC. Can I give a huge GRRRRRR! Anyone else as angry as me?
Pam B. Great post tonight. You sounded less stressed and made up for Keith's absence. I DID lol.
Thank you.
I heard Condi's name mentioned tonight for the first time in weeks. I had been wondering if she had been taking the cure (withdrawal)or if there were a REALLY BIG sale & Bloomingdales.
This is an oh-by-the-way:  I heard on the news yesterday how the TSA was doing a check on how well the x-ray/security folks were doing.  It seems that 5 out 7 seven planted 'bombs' went undetected, however, they did manage to home in on the bottles of water.

Ain't life grand?

PEACE!
Pam Bignardi (wrote)

On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told the editorial board of The Chicago Tribune that he had a "gut feeling" about a new period of increased risk.

Hi Pam
Strangely enough wednesday morning Gas Prices in my home town rose 15 cents a gallon more over night.

Thank's Don
Holy cow:  I just read some 'posts' on aol regarding Carmona, and yikes, they make Larry, scott, wayne, K (who really gives shit collins), and our own jr high wannabe Adam, look like babies.

I think you boys ought to check it out and learn a thing or two.  At least these people stay in the present.

Krista - have an excellent mini-vacation.

It's good to see the truth coming out about Guiliani.  He's been polishing up those 9/11 "credentials" that he invented for himself for several years now.  About time for his real record to see the light of day.  Too bad New York can't get a piece of the millions of dollars greedy Guliani has amassed for himself off of that made-up image.

As I posted several threads ago (I put up a link to the article), they are STILL finding bones at ground zero as they are excavating for new construction.  The Medical Examiner now has a permanent presence there for the forseeable future because of the remains they keep finding.  It's been hundreds of bone fragments as well as whole arm and leg bones since October of last year.

Heckofajob, Rudy!

RIP (born:2001 - died:today) Talking Point "they're on the run" in reference to al Quaeda.  I guess bin Laden is taking Bush seriously when he said "bring em on."   He was never serious about getting the #1 or #2 guys - how many times did we hear that we killed the #3 guy?  He preferred to have bin Laden alive and well as a boogey man every time he needed to make people afraid.

Or maybe BushCo left al Quaeda alone so they could reconstitute themselves and attack the U.S. again so he can be a popular president once more.  Would we fall for that?
Here's what Larry Johnson thinks about the al Qaeda resurgance (he's ex CIA and an expert on the subject):

http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/coffeehouse/2007/jul/11/terrorist_crock_of_crap_part_deux

Rest easy folks, looks like we won't be going Neon Polka Dot Alert after all.
What a crock of ? Enquiring Minds want to know? They always make this shit up as they go along.

From Newsweek National:
The officials, who asked not to be identified talking about sensitive matters, said the still-classified document reflects growing jitters among U.S. counterterrorism officials, even while those officials stressed there is “no credible, specific” intelligence on any imminent threat to the homeland. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff underscored the concerns this week when he told the Chicago Tribune that he had a “gut feeling” that the country was entering a new period of increased risk this summer.
This is from the Newsweek National News Piece on this.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19717961/site/newsweek/page/0/

OK the guys is ask not to talk about sensitive matters
so here is blabbing his mouth off about them.
Does someone see something wrong with this picture. Look at carefully. So why the hell is Captain America talking about sensitive matters to the press if its so damn secret? They are talking about classified documents? Maybe its those missing files Senator Leahy
wants for the Committee or Congressman Conyer. Perhaps while they are blabbing away maybe we can find a couple of Roves hard drives. What kind of Intel operation are we running. We sure talk a lot about not talking about secrets and leave em laying all over the place.

More wag the dog to get our minds off the real issues.
Fricken Rovinian Tactics. Don't believe anything these
they say. They leak secrets? I got a gut felling they are all LIARS and CRIMINALS.

You want Intel Go to the Israelis don't you think they would be verifying some of this shit. They just might know a little about al-Quida. My question has alwas been why didn't we ask them about the WMD. Don't you think they got a little more to loose if the shit hits the fan over there and they already took out Nuke Plant in June of 1981 that flattened there program.

You want Intel you go the Mossad or MI6 not Dick Cheney or Dubya . They outed our CIA Agent the Valerie Plame Wilson destroyed here career and her husband Joe.
Then have the audacity to run a cover up with commutes, executive privileges, not answering subpoenas, being in contempt of court, but wait they will lie to you behind closed doors and say its the truth? Why behind closed doors they been doing it with wide open all along.
Meanwhile Thousands of lives are being destroyed behind this insanity and Fear.
K.O. and the Countdown team know what's going on here.I'm glad he has the humanity and perseverance to pursue the TRUTH.

Think about this who has the most to lose in the region when bad stuff happens. Could it be Isreal?
Damn it Takes Rocket Science to Figure That Out.

We Just Leave Our Classified Stuff all over the place
Copy Paste Time:

Interesting how all this stuff is coming out about they same time appropriation for the War Bill and now Senator Webbs bill got shot down by the same "back stabbers."
Semper Fi Senator Webb
We'll take care of that come next election.Wont need their votes. Don't worry we will remind the voters how they supported the troops.Yeah their on board to support the troops my ass.
"Rovinian Rats"

al-Quida wont attack us.

DICK and Dubya and Sister Condi their take OUR NATION Out fine without any help.

Oh yeah, it was those nasty Iraqis giving the weapons inspectors the finger that made them ineffective.  Uh huh.  How about this, the coup de grace after years of sabotage by the Bush Co. -

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19649915/site/newsweek/
And you can trust Bush Co. not to abuse their illegal domestic spying apparatus.  Yeah, right.

IMPEACHMENT NOW.  Before the jackass declares martial law and starts a revolution.  Because if it is one thing you Neocon assholes have underestimated, it is American's hatred of oppression.  Keep moving on this path.  Don't be shocked when the villagers with torches show up.  YOU LISTENING GOP SENATORS?

The mob will be looking for YOU bunch of enablers too.  Bush Co. is going down one way or another, Senators.  Get on board or get run over.  Don't believe it?  Keep watching as that impeachment poll number keeps creeping higher and higher as more evidence of criminal activity by Bush Co. piles up.  Do the math.  You are outnumbered.  And getting more so every day.  So go ahead, spy on citizens, throw out the Constitution, put MPs on the streets, make the Republican Party the ONE MANDATORY PARTY . . . guarantee that there is as much domestic bloodshed as possible when Cheney makes his move to be King.  Because that is what will happen - Bush Co. tries to be Monarch and there will be OPEN REVOLUTION.

You do realize that is the bed you are making, right Senators?  Are you willing and ready to lay in it?  Impeachment should be an easy choice by now but it is apparent that some of you are on the take from Halliburton too.  Do the right thing now while you have the chance or be ready for the consequences.  They are of YOUR making.
On the plus side, it looks like the Pamplona Bulls are making a comeback!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19722969/
I would like to say there needs to be news coverage about the SPP act that Pres. Bush is signing with Canada and Mexico (just like there was news coverage about Anna Nicole). Also did everyone know that Mr. Guiliana law firm is the one representing the King of Spain's company to build the super highway. Texas residents will have to pay tolls to the King of Spain!!! So people we need to wake up and see that
American leadership and those political leaderships around the world is trying to make a one world government. Pres. Bush's exact words (NEW WORLD ORDER). Read this website about SPP www.spp.gov
Hey Keith! Please speak about the SPP(www.spp.com). also who is benefiting from the treaty like Mr. Giuliani's law firm in Texas who represents the King of Spain's company and that Texas residents will have to pay tolls to the King of Spain.
RE: Chertoff's Explanation For His Gut Feeling.  Does anyone take this fear mongering horse trainer seriously?  If you think anything this guy does makes us safer, I suggest you interact with the TSA for a day or two and then promptly shut the hell up.  One of the best things about Bush Co. going will be not having to see this wormy little weasel on TV.
Krista- happy anniversary a day early, and yes- Graceland is pretty tacky.  At least yo' hubby (and you, if so inclined) should find some WAY good BBQ eating down there!  Hit a blues joint for all of us left here at the keyboards, wouldja?
Pam- what about;
g.) A scumbag lawyer bearing a $50 Million pair of suit pants in a dry-cleaner's bag posing as some sort of human being?
Or, perhaps, an
h.) A diminuitve, dimmwitted man with close-set eyes and vacant facial expression claiming to be some sort of 'decider' or 'uniter' or turnip?
Great post Pam.(7-11 @11:30 PM)
The real terror is looking at Chertoff's ugly face!
If he ever shows his gut AND his ugly face I will PUKE!
BOHICA!!*  From MSNBC homepage- "Breaking News- President Bush to hold press conference at 10:30 Eastern."

*((Bend Over, Here It Comes Again))
okay, so now that Al Quaida is bigger than ever, does the administration declare victory and say the dems are the reason for bigger terrorists, or do they declare martial law, since a country where only 25% of the populace buy into Herr Bushs ideology means 75% need to be saved from themselves?
you gonna take the whole rest of the week off keith?? let us know.... and i thought amy did a good job. but she needs to be a little snarkier. and it will be time to re-issue the 'nexus' of terror and fear again, with this latest crap.
It seems like UN is more corrupted than i thought after the oil for food program, North Korean scandal, the rape cases, and now financial transactions for personal projects are being investigated along with inprotant lost documents, but guess what you wont see this story on CNN(communits news network) or MSNBC
Al Qaeda beat Bush to the punch on this surge. Whereas Bush started his surge but a few months ago Al Qaeda started their surge the minute Bush invaded Afghanistan and Iraq (several years ago). What did this administration think the terrorists and organizations as Al Qaeda were going to do? Run or sit on their ass, bury their faces in their hands and exclaim "oh my, Bush is coming". These people are fanatics and they are tough. They are not like one large tumor that can be easily pinpointed and then removed, but rather like cancer cells that have entered the blood stream and hide throughout the body. Kill 10 and they are replaced by 20. Kill the leaders and they are replaced by another. There can be no total victory against these people except by way of change of hearts and minds and by getting to the younger people before their minds are twisted by fanatical religious leanings and the terrorists. And that takes good relations where possible and education of young people across the globe to learn to live in harmony as a world-wide community. It will take years and years and will not happen in our lifetime. In the interim, one does not make matters worse by invading countries and threatening others. It gives your enemies the ammunition they want and need to increase their numbers. It gives them a cause and/or a target at which to cast their hate and violence. Give one no enemy and their hatred and desire to do violence will fade. But is there a war against terrorism? Yes there is. But it is a war against the evil and violent of the future based on those choices young people may make in their futures. You cannot win that kind of war using agression.  Should one defend oneself against those who have already chosen this type of life, of course. But there will be losses on all sides and all around the globe including in the United States as with 911 until those causes that push people to do evil and violence are eliminated. In the interim, yes defend yourself. Yes, develop covert stealth units that can elimnate the terrorists leaders no matter where they are in the world. Yes, hit any known terrorists training camp with air power or missles and yes, continue to do what it takes to protect the American people. But unless attacked by another country, and there is no doubt as to what country has attacked the US, and that this foreign country's government and people were behind such an atack, do not invade other people's land, property or way of life. Because when you do, you set the clock back a thousand years in the world's attempts to decreasse acts of terrorism. Thank you GW and Cheney and Rumsfield and to any others who have supported this administration for setting us back several hundreds of years in our fight against terorism. Thank you for not having a clue how to effectively fight terrorism across the glode and to do your best to protect the American people. Thank you for absolutely nothing.
Given the indisputeable facts of:
no WMD's
no ties of Iraq to 9/11
"Great job - Brownie!"
Gonzales - I'll tell you what I want you to hear or can't remember
I'll keep Rumsfeld til the end - Oh, I lied to avoid clouding the issues
there is no global warming
muzzle on the Surgeon General
etc, etc, etc.

Countdown can point out the daily inconsistencies but the public now has no way of knowing what is going on in government without the "Woodword and Bernstein" investigative reporting of yesteryear.
First off - Krista:  Happy 5th wedding anniversary. Enjoy your time in Memphis and enjoy the BBQ.  I hear it is one of the best if not THE best in the country.  I also will be taking off soon for the "sunny beaches" of Ohio next week with my son...well; maybe not the sunny beaches, but it sounds better than just saying "Ohio".  We are actually leaving on the 17th which is my husband and my 26th wedding anniversary.  Unfortunately my husband is over in the war so, as has happened many times through the years, we are spending it apart.  We'll be celebrating it when he returns.  The best anniversary present I could receive is for him to be safe.

As for the show:  Speaking of my husband, he has been to both war zones.  He definitely sees that all of the money and resources have been poured into Iraq (although not enough to the troops; most to contractors).  Of course that is where Al Quaida is NOW but wouldn't be had we not gone there in the first place.  It is no big surprise to me or him or anyone with any sense that we should have been focusing on Afghanistan for the last 6 years. Now not only do we have a terrible situation in Iraq, but Afghanistan is also beginning to see the same roadside bombs that we now see in Iraq. Commader in Chief?  No.  Commander Inept.  Commander Incompetent.

Giuliani:  This guy is a dirt bag masquerading as a hero.  We have a firefighter friend and he has sent us emails about what kind of "support" Giuliani gave the firefighters before and after the fall of the towers.  He is a republican.  Money first.  That is why he stopped the search for remains AFTER all of the gold, etc., was found.  It had nothing whatsoever to do with the health and well-being of those firefighters still searching for their lost comrades.  As more information comes to light about what this guy really is about, I hope these that look at him as some kind of God will come to their senses, although these are probably the same people that voted for Bush - twice.

The Harry Potter movie.  Whoopie.  I'll be missing that one.  Never a fan.  I'm much more looking forward to the Simpson's Movie coming out.  And speaking of that - Boooo to the Vermont Springfield that won the premier.  I thought their video entry was lame.
Senators . . . what C A, Tuscaloosa, Al  (Sent Thursday, July 12, 2007 9:33 AM) just said goes for me too.  Worried about global instability?  Well you need look no further than Bush Co. to find one of the biggest promoters of terrorism in the world.  After all, they did invade a sovereign country that had not attacked us in order to proved the terrorists with a training ground after we destroyed their Afghan bases.

Hey!  That's helping the enemy.  And that is TREASON.

That about sums it up.  BUSH LET THE BAD GUYS GO SO HE COULD MAKE MONEY WITH OUR SOLDIERS BLOOD.  TRAITOR.  GET IT?

Jamie I still haven't received that email?I'm calling Senator Webb's Office In a minute to thank them.Does   anyone have a list of those who voted against his bill to support the troops?

The Executive Branch is the Best Terrorist Cell Going.
Like I have said they don't need help from al_Quida they are doing fine on their own.

Don -

Not surprising, just like they drastically reduce prior to elections, i.e. 2004 and 2006.  Sorry to hear that and I guess the oil companies are punishing us for overthrowing the GOP last November!!

It's REALLY REALLY great to see you back Don, as I missed you!!

Some day I would like to take you up on the beer offer, and use the opportunity to re-educate you.
Just a little levity here, I'm usually more serious.

The hypocrisy and incompetence of our WH makes me want to scream most of the time -- it's gotten to the point where nothing they do surprises me any more.

I'm 52. I read alot and I've read all six Harry Potter books. I'm looking forward to seeing the fifth movie.  My 26 year old daughter and I will devour the last book the day after it comes out. My 21 year old son will read it after one of us is finished.

The books are great, the movies (at least the first four -- haven't seen the fifth) are great.  They are steeped in mythology and magic, and yet the "Order of the Phoenix" deals with a wizard government trying to deny reality and control how people think -- imprisoning those that disagree.  Sound familiar?

Maybe us 'Muggles' (non-wizards) can learn something from Harry, who speaks truth to authority and suffers the resulting character assignation with dignity.

What version of some electronic game will the Iraqi military sojourn take in the immediate future? McCain talked of "whack-a-mole" in describing trying to track down a supposed enemy from a circular racetrack methodology of a chase game. "There over here,no, there over there" mentality seems to be the type of chase game modicum prevailing now! What a way to fight a war! Stupidly wasting material, time, and people with a maddening process of military gambit in use in Iraq today. And Bush is optimistic? Of What? His legacy is our madness!
Hmmmm....  Maybe, just maybe, if our military had been fighting the war it should have been fighting (against actual terrorists) instead of being sent to be slaughtered for the greed of warmongering, war-profiteering traitors like Bush, Cheney, and the executives of the oil companies and Halliburton, the Bush administration wouldn't be able to scare us with Al-Qaeda's return to power now.
We need something besides "gut feelings" and political posturing from this White House. Unfortunately, ladies and gentlemen, we have been set up by the best friend bin Laden and al-Qaeda could have asked for: the Bush Administration!
