Another Handsome Boy

Posted: Tuesday, July 17, 2007 1:59 AM by Countdown

Politico reports on another exceedingly high bill from a beauty salon that will surely derail a 2008 hopeful's White House bid.  Mitt Romney is the victim this time...he used $300 in campaign funds to pay a place called Hidden Beauty to slap some make-up on him before a televised debate.  The campaign (in an attempt to obfuscate the absurd payout???) disclosed the payment as "communications consulting" on their campaign finance report...because the payment came from the communications budget.

Ultimately it's really not a big deal...and it shouldn't and probably won't impact Romney;s campaign.  That said, it sure is a good thing Romney never took a swipe at John Edwards for his haircut faux pas.  Oh, he did?  Oops.

From the Boston Globe:

Romney on hair and John Edwards

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- At a Portsmouth Rotary luncheon this afternoon, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was asked point blank "Where do you get your hair cut and how much does it cost?"

Romney said, as he has before, that he pays $50 for a hair cut including the tip.

Then he quipped: "You know I think John Edwards was right. There are two Americas. There is the America where people pay $400 for a haircut and then there is everybody else."

Well as the old saying goes whether they are a $100.00 whore or a $2.00 whore they are still a whore.
Cute and and Stupid and fancy pants willing to
do the anything you want to hear to vote for me dance.
What the hell is going on. Have they all been castrated.
I guess they did it by walking on the fence wit the issues for too long.
Hypocrites on all levels.
Sue -  Pam is right.  If you are being frontally attacked and dopplegangered, you are doing something right.  Why do you think I have such thick skin?  Aside from the training that is?  It is because an angry disoriented enemy is a sign of success.  So are disarmed ones.  The Trolls here are losing and losing badly, just like their heroes the Neocons.  Far from being upset by the doppleganger attack, you should indeed take it a sign of fear from the enemy.  Fear that the 70% will come for them some night.  Fear they have been found out as venal, petty killers.  And they should be afraid.  Very afraid.  Being outnumbered by a slightly larger than 2:1 ratio is not a good thing if you are on the 1 side when the system breaks.

---

This isn't about R or D.  It is about the Neocons.  They need to hunted down, rooted out and possibly even eradicated to save the America our founding fathers envisioned.  They are modern Nazis and their supporters are all "Good Americans" just like their historical counterparts, the "Good Germans".  People being "Good Americans" has cost me several friends in the last 6 years (one of them a friend for over 20 years) but if they back fascists, well, they weren't really my friends in the first place but rather pinnacles of greed and arrogance best left in the dust.

The simple truth is that the greatest danger to America isn't terrorism.  It is the fascism that Neocons represent.  Our greatest enemy lives among us and at 1600 Pennsylvania.  It is the damage they have done to our legal foundations, our military, our intelligence services, our economy (just wait, you'll see) and our once global standard as the leader to be emulated rather than a rogue state to be feared if Halliburton or the Bush family wants what you have.  It is damage they did with malice aforethought (evidenced by PNAC) and by placing personal profit above national security and legality (evidenced by the illegal and ill-advised invasion of Iraq and the perpetual Constitutional abuses).  If Bush monkeys with the next election or goes nuclear, then it WILL be open season on Neocons and anyone who supports them.  Count on it.  The rat bastards won't have enough holes to hide in or gated communities to cower behind the walls when We the People, the 70% (and growing), come for them.  If you think our first Civil War was bloody, wait and see what will happen in the second.  It won't be battles along lines and with conventional strategy and tactics.  It will be closer to anarchy.  A domestic civil war is the Neocons are sewing and it is what they will reap if Congress does not get off their collective ass NOW and IMPEACH THE CRIMINALS IN THE WHITE HOUSE BEFORE THEY MAKE THEIR FINAL PLAY FOR "PERMANENT" POWER.

Neocons see what they do as a messianic mission to rule the world. We all saw how well that worked out for the Nazis, the Soviets, the English, the Spanish, the Dutch, the Romans, the . . . well, you get the idea.  CONTROL IS AN ILLUSION, GLOBAL CONTROL IS A DELUSION.  The very real physical cycles of chaotic and emergent systems built into nature guarantees that no control is permanent.  Look into chaos theory and emergent systems if you doubt it and you will find this fundamental truth: Everything is transitory and while predictions and influence may be possible, total control is not.

If you prefer religious studies over science, look at Taoism and Buddhism.  They will tell you the same thing.  The dualistic and transitory nature of reality is not new to religion.  It is, in fact, much older than Christianity, Judaism, or Islam.

If you prefer philosophy, look at George Santayana who famously said, "Why shouldn't things be largely absurd, futile, and transitory? They are so, and we are so, and they and we go very well together."

You can no more rule the world than you can control entropy (or enthalpy for that matter).  That is why the Neocons are doomed to failure.  Their goal is impossible.  Complexity (in the mathematical sense of the word) will kill it.  That's math.  Math IS God's language no matter what book you worship.

They have also forgotten a political truth as well that will doom them.  The governing only rule at the consent of the governed no matter what ideology or political system you endorse.  Doubt that?  Ask Louis XVI.  That is another war they Neocons are losing as they "win" their battles.

So sleep tight in your delusional world, Neocons, for some night you may die before you wake.  And if the Lord does take your souls, pitiful as they may be, it will only be to hold them long enough for their delivery to Hell as the price for how you treated your fellow man.
Well, I guess there is also the America where men pay $300 for face makeup and then there is everybody else!

I would say "This is no big deal. Every candidate pays money to look good on TV." But after the fuss over Edwards and his $400 haircuts...you know, it's like, if he really cares about the poor, Edwards is supposed to use a Flowbee, and if Al Gore really wants to be carbon neutral, he needs to live in a little shack made out of switchgrass. Otherwise, the Republicans say, they're just hypocrites! And goodness knows the Republicans are NEVER hypocrites!

(Shhh...just shut up now about Vitter and the madam thing!)
Recent Republican mantra:  Do as I say and not as I do, as in Romney criticizing Edwards for using campaign funds for expensive services, and the Vitters pleading for his sexual indiscretions to be kept private.
Don't be silly-this is a classic case of IOKIYAR (it's ok if you're a republican). The fact that a candidate cannot simply wander into a shop and wait for a haircut, any more than a candidate cannot go on TV without makeup for the cameras is not important. It costs more to have someone come to you to provide services like haircuts and tv makeup, common sense would tell you that. But that will make no difference, nor will it be noted in the "liberal media" that the use of communications funds might be a bit dicey. I'm guessing that Mitt doesn't cut his own hair, but pays quite handsomely for someone else to do it. Again,IOKIYAR.
Everybody hide!  Another 'waver' on the loose.
Well, this is the litmus test for high office in the USA . If your haircut costs more than that of the average fellow on the street, you are too big for your britches to be President.
Well, that kohl eyeliner and pouty lip rouge can be considered "Communicative", can't it?  What Mitt really needs, is one of them big black dots like Louis the Fourteent(or Louis Quattorze for you Liberals) always wore.  Mitt would be the full bull GOP Tart with one of them.
Please voters - do not vote for this phony, insincere creep.  PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

If you think the Boston Globe doesn't like him, try reading the Boston Herald (a right wing newspaper). They can't stand him either.

This guy is brutal. Can't stand the sight of this picture. Yuk.

Good morning, everyone. What I'm finding interesting is the fact that it seems the majority of the money for his campaign is coming out of his own pocket. He doesn't seem to be getting a whole lot of the "traditional" donations in proportion to other candidates on either side.

Perhaps some of our great east coast or MA bloggers can educate me a bit on Mr. Romney. Is this guy uber-rich? It seems like he is. Where did his money come from?
Republicans talk about haircut prices so they don't have to talk about the war and other real problems in the country.  Why is this a topic on newshole?  I think its great that someone in America can get $300 to slap on some make up and $1200 for cutting someones hair.  They must be good at thier jobs and I am happy whenever I see Americans doing well.  They ( the makeup person and barber) may have the only jobs that can't be outsourced.
I think it would be a lot less confusing for everyone if the Republican Party  just change their name to the Hypocritical Party.

Obama, Bloomberg, Feingold, Hagel anyone?
I don't mind how he spends his money, although his wife could have done the make up for free, it he had asked.

It's the hypocrisy!  How come the religious right keeps forgetting -- "He who lives in glass houses, should not throw stones" ?
He was for the hair cut before he was against it.  Sounds like he entire campaign all in one.  This is how he answers all of the tough questions, like abortion, etc.

This guy is a joke.  I have said it from the begining, want a REAL conservative in the white house in '08 vote for Ron Paul.  This man has spent only $600,000, has $2.4 million on hand, and has $0 debt!  Source: http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/

Hope for America - http://www.ronpaul2008.com
Jen,

I think it was posted to show how much of a two-face Romney truly is.  He will say and do anything to be elected. It worked in MA, it will not work for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!
that's their whole thing. hypocrisy. but among good christians..... makes me want to chuck.
Jose- I forget people need to be told republicans and politicians in general are hypocrites.  It seems to me that if his flipping on abortion and gun control haven't convinced people he's less than completly sincere a little make up isn't going to do it.  It seems petty to point out the small thing when the big ones are so glairingly obvious.  But then again, I have learned a surprisingly small number of Americans have a firm grasp of the obvious.
Sure, its just lipstick on a pig, and chump change for a  richy boy. We should worry about his torture fetish and fantasy of giant advanced interrogation camps.
FROM MAY 2007 WASHINGTON POST:

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, a Republican presidential candidate, has amassed assets of between $190 million and $250 million, a campaign adviser said, but has received permission to delay filing required disclosure forms with the Federal Election Commission for 45 days past the May 15 deadline.

Romney, a Harvard Business School graduate who acquired much of his wealth as a corporate consultant at Bain & Co. and its affiliated private equity firm, also has a blind trust for his children and grandchildren valued at between $70 million and $100 million.

Just kicking this list forward:

Just a reminder, here's a list of all the Repugnikant Senators up for re-election in 2008.  Watch them peel off from BushCo in a desparate attempt to keep their seats:

Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
Wayne Allard (R-Colo)
Saxby Chambilss (R-Ga)
Thad Cochran (R-MS)
Norm Coleman (M-Minn)
Susan Collins (R-Maine)
John Cornyn (R-Tx)
Larry Craig (R-ID)
Elizabeth Dole (R-NC)
Pete Domenici (R-NM)
Michael Enzi (R-Wy)
Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Chuck Hagel (R-NE)
James Inhofe (R-OK)
Mitch McConnell (R-Ky)
Pat Roberts (R-Ks)
Jeff Sessions (R-Al)
Gordon Smith (R-Or)
Ted Stevens (R-Ak)
John Sununu (R-NH)
John Warner (R-Va)
Mitt:  Hair Piece says what?  How does that shoe sole taste?  Is it part of the approved Mormon diet or is that endemic to being a lying ass politician?  My bet is it lays with the politician part of what you call a personality.  Here is an idea.  Why don't you spend your money on buying some ethics and common sense.  Oh, and stay out of politics, hack.  You look like posing liar.  No consultant can change that.
Who cares what he pays for his damned haircut. Mr. "double the size of Gitmo", is a complete f'n idiot.
A good take on the NIE report from the NYT.  Good comments too.  Propaganda isn't working as well as it did before the Internets, is it, fascists?

COUNTDOWN:  I read on CNN that Joseph Wilson has endorsed Hilliary Clinton.  I'd like to know why.  Does he really think that he and his wife will get justice under her Presidency?  If so, I'd like to know why.  Does the think the American people will get justice (as in Bush and Cheney going to prison or the firing squad)?  If so, why?  Since he is a frequent guest, how about some follow up?  Thanks.
barbinalbany- a few days ago, I tossed one to Steve Turner in Cedar Falls, IA asking  "are all fishermen liars, or are all liars fishermen?".  I need to revise that today to "are all 'Good Christians' Republicans, or are all Republicans 'Good Christians'?".  (BTW, Steve- two best times to fish:  When it's raining, and when it's not.)
He's against the exepnsive haircut, but just ignore his expensive make-up job (just WHAT facial flaws does he have to cover up anyway? - pock marks?  hairy mole?  plastic surgery scars?  razor burn?  666 tattoo?).

It's just SOS (same old $hit) for these hypocrites.  Dems and what they do - bad.  Pugs and what they do - good, holy, patriotic and righteous.

Loved the phoney-baloney Vitter press conference.  Wifey was all dolled-up as a good Pug wife should be with her regular off-the-rack dress (no designer or stylish stuff and absolutely no suit for her - she should look as vulnerable as possible, you know - keeps the press from asking those hard questions - makes them look like they're beating up some defenseless, simple-dress-wearing, woman).

He made a nice speech where he accepted responsibility, but not the blame.  Remember folks - responsible people don't lose their jobs, but those who are to blame do lose their jobs.

Coward that he is, he left his Mrs. to answer all the questions.
Sue, Cornyn (TX) is going down with the sinking ship.  I've tried but he ain't budging.  Rick Noreiga, a Texas state legislator who had to give up his seat to his wife so that he could go to fight in Afghanistan, is considering a run.  I'm praying he runs - a war hero vs. a war monger.
And I'm sure Keith Olbermann cuts his own hair and does his own make-up before his show each night (or generously pays a homeless person or illegal alien to do this work for him). Bless Keith O. for focusing on the important issues!
Pam - it'll be alright. Calm down. Adios.

Final comment to you Paul, as you are NOT worth one letter of my writing on this blog!!

YES, I KNEW THERE WERE NO WMD'S AND I KNEW BUSH WAS LYING!!

You are a typical neo con who now has resorted to acting like a blabbering child to divert attention from the fact that you were STUPID and believed him.  You were STUPID and you voted for him!!

Sorry buddy, again, that's your stupid ass!! I KNEW BETTER!!

CIAO and good riddance to your GARBAGE 20%er!!

PS: I'm very CALM as I know I did EVERYTHING possible to NOT bring this asshole into the White House.  Did you?  I didn't think so and you, too, are to blame for this hell we are living!!

Sleep well fool!!
Why even post this article. It's nothing more than slinging mud, and getting invoved with people's private lives. How many people in this blog want thier personal lives printed. Tell me how relevant a haircuts price is to running a nation?
One last time,

It's not the haircut.
It's not the make up.
It's the hypocrisy!

As my late father used to say -- "You don't have to be a liar or a crook to be a politician, but it helps."
Bravo to New Orleans Todd's comments in his 6:48 am post! Have you read John Dean's CONSERVATIVES WITHOUT CONSCIENCE yet? It's not exactly light summer reading but gives great insights on what makes some of these people tick.

I loved what you had to say. Thanks!
Todd, New Orleans, LA (Sent Tuesday, July 17, 2007 6:48 AM)

OUTSTANDING - AMAZING - RIGHT ON TARGET!!

I am speechless and that is NO easy feat - LOL!!
$400.00 hair cuts, 30,000 sq ft mansions, billionaire catchup fortunes, $3,000.00 energy bills, its a great day to be a progressive. Heck, in my imaginary world, one can "filibuster" in the house of Representatives and on my TV "Power of 10" is on NBC. It is also great to know that if Keith did not report it, it did not happen.
Here we go again.  It's not the $300 make-up job or the $400 haircut -- it's the hypocrisy (and intolerance), stupid.  It's the fact that young mistresses and call girls are "bad" when democrats do it (witness Bill Clinton), but "private" when republicans do it (witness Newt Gingrich or David Vitters).  Just like homosexuality is always immoral and reprehensible except when it's a republican or neocon getting caught (witness Ted Haggard and Mark Foley), at which point forgiveness and understanding become the order of the day.  If they would just keep their own lips zipped about other people's  "privacy," then all would be well, but instead the republicans who seem to get caught are the ones who spout the loudest about others' values (as in Haggard for sure, and now apparently Vitters and his wife).  In the end, Mitt Romney's make-up is not a distraction -- it is merely part of his character to consider, just like John Edwards' haircut.  I wouldn't refuse to vote for Romney purely based on this, but little things certainly help to illuminate the larger issues.  For my own money, it's not Mitt Romney's make-up, but rather his eyes (not to mention his positions on issues and his phony religious self-righteousness), that scare the bejeebers out of me.
Carol, Long Valley, NJ -- Didn't see your post when I made mine a few minutes ago.  You are dead on.  It's the hypocrisy, stupid.  To paraphrase an earlier question on this thread, are all crooks and liars politicians or are all politicians crooks and liars?  And when you're dealing with crooks and liars, what does that matter?
This candidate (Romney) does not come from the ranks of the common-folk which is what I am looking for. Someone who has lived and can identify with the experiences of the lower or middle class. Come to think of it, none of the candidiates (Dem or Republican) come from this cloth. Good luck folks on making your selection in 2008. To bad Forrest Gump is not running. Not that would be my choice. Run Forrest! Run!
Sorry for the typo. I meant to say "Now" that would be my choice.
Ian in Alberta, Nicely said!
Mike in Richmond: "And I'm sure Keith Olbermann cuts his own hair and does his own make-up before his show each night (or generously pays a homeless person or illegal alien to do this work for him). Bless Keith O. for focusing on the important issues!"

Once again, you miss the point. Keith isnt touting himself to be a man of the people like your boy Romney was attempting with his lame a$$ swipe at John Edwards.

Personally I dont begrudge any of the candidates anything. They are busy folks running tight schedules and as such have to work everyday life basics around their schedule.

Who gives a rats a$$ where anyone gets a haircut or how much he/she spends? And if donors to their campaigns are okay with it, why is it anyones business?

The only point people here are making is that its another example of the republican "do as I say not as I do" philosophy.

fortuna in Houston - the reason I keep kicking the list forward is so that we all stay tuned as the Pugs on this list "moderate" their positions in order to appeal to voters.  They all hope that voters have long term memory loss and just pick up on what they're saying NOW.  Cornyn will be no different.  He can't win with 26% of the vote.
Yeah, but does he wear those "special, mystery" mormon underwear that nobody else is supposed to know about? Talk about your Victorias Secret.
Krista Swisher, Indianapolis, IN

You are welcome and thank you for the compliment.  I have read Mr. Dean's book.  It was well written, informative and lucid in its assertions.  A must read for anyone concerned about the future of America.

I would also like to thank you and all the non-Kool-Aid drinkers who post here.  I won't name names in a abundance of caution that I may forget a someone, but you know who you are.  You make wrangling and disarming the trolls easy because you all often beat me to calling them on their brainwashed propaganda bullshit.

Together and united, we can take our government back and mitigate or repair as much of Bush Co.'s damage as possible.  We owe it to Thomas Jefferson and our Founding Fathers who fought against monarchy and oppression.  We owe it to the brave soldiers who fight to protect freedom and the Constitution today despite being misused and abused by the current administration.  We owe it to our WWII generation who bravely fought AGAINST fascism and authoritarianism.  We owe it to ourselves as Americans committed to the Bill of Rights and the rule of law.  Our cause is just and (speaking for myself anyway) our resolve is unshakable.  We will win.  When and at what final cost is the question.
Wow, looks like there is nothing more to say, is there?  Let's see how Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Bush News...I mean Fox News spins this.
Update??
Pat - NO worries here friend!! Not only would I never vote for this CLOWN, I have never voted for a republican.

However, my sister and I always say, "Diane Feinstein is the only republican we've ever voted for" - LOL!!

As Todd calls him, "Hairpiece" is not only phony, he's probably THE biggest sell-out regarding social issues of ALL candidates. He'll say anything that furthers his goals.

He's pathetic and a proven hypocrite!!

PEACE FRIEND!!
AWWW,  pretty boy!
To Todd and Bonnie, I couldn't agree with you more.

To C.A., Tuscaloosa "Someone who has lived and can identify with the experiences of the lower or middle class. Come to think of it, none of the candidates (Dem or Republican) come from this cloth"   you obviously haven't checked out Barack Obama's background.  Don't think it gets more "middle class" than that.
