Guiliani still sucks. He's a liar and fraud. Vote for him, and you're voting for Bush again. Of course, I speak for the 60%+ of us. I'm sure the 30 percenter's think differently.
MSNBC is running a story titled:

Industry's role in Cheney energy report emerges
Many meetings held with companies before environmentalists approached

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19817580/

This is some of the biggest, most blatant CYA propaganda EVER.  And it's terrible.  You don't have to be a genius to read between the lines that, despite their assertion to the contrary, that Dick is indeed a tool of the oil industry.  At least we have a partial list of the fascists We the People should be looking to hang out to dry.  Yeah, I AM talking about you executives.  Fellow Americans, my ass.  Money whores is more like it.  This is SO badly done, I almost wonder if it isn't a bit like what most physicists suspected of Werner Heisenberg and his efforts to build atomic weapons for the Nazis: that he did his job poorly on purpose.
What would America be like in the Age of Giuliani? You can get a clue by looking at the history books. After September 11, he was so taken with his role that he proposed to stay on as Mayor for an extra three months. He also toyed with violating the city's term extension laws and running for a third term. In his view, he was more important than the laws. For years, any judge whose ruling he disagreed with was tagged as "Out of Control." Sure - out of his control. It's called checks and balances. You can look it up in the Constitution. His talents for diplomacy are right up there with Bush's, so we could count on at least 4 more years of being roundly disliked by the rest of the world.
Without a US and UN presence we would have witnessed another Arab-Isreali war - K. Collins USN (Sent Tuesday, July 17, 2007 9:48 PM)

K - From another thread....

I believe this is what occurred last summer in Lebanon.  In my opinion, not only did Israel react to the abduction of a soldier in an atrociously inhumane manner, they used illegal cluster bombs. Their conduct was deplorable.

Not only did Israel lose, they were humiliated.  However this humiliation came after tens of thousands of innocent people to include babies and children in Lebanon lost their lives.  In addition, they bombed a UN facility that had been in Lebanon for decades, causing more deaths. Also, the soldier was never released.

George W. Bush sat in complete silence, while the majority of the world watched in horror and ridicule.  Please tell me how the US and UN helped stop that atrocity? The UN was punished and George W. Bush sat on his ass while watching and defending Israel’s actions.

What Israel did last summer, in my opinion, was inexcusable!!

PEACE!!
Just kicking this list forward:

Just a reminder, here's a list of all the Repugnikant Senators up for re-election in 2008.  Watch them peel off from BushCo in a desparate attempt to keep their seats:

Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
Wayne Allard (R-Colo)
Saxby Chambilss (R-Ga)
Thad Cochran (R-MS)
Norm Coleman (M-Minn)
Susan Collins (R-Maine)
John Cornyn (R-Tx)
Larry Craig (R-ID)
Elizabeth Dole (R-NC)
Pete Domenici (R-NM)
Michael Enzi (R-Wy)

Chuck Hagel (R-NE)
James Inhofe (R-OK)
Mitch McConnell (R-Ky)
Pat Roberts (R-Ks)
Jeff Sessions (R-Al)
Gordon Smith (R-Or)
Ted Stevens (R-Ak)
John Sununu (R-NH)
John Warner (R-Va)
cornyn, domenici, imhofe, sunununununu, top of the line neanderthals, followed by graham and mcconnel.lets see what happens with some of them after the bushies go away. they might change their tunes.
K Collins: I hate to tell you this but there is always going to be conflict between the Arabs and Israelis. And one day it is going to explode into a full blown attack and an attempt to destroy Israel  with the use of nuclear weapons by those who hate Isreal and who will be backed by one or two other nations that have such power. No US or UN presence will be able to stop it. No one will. Israel knows it is going to happen and is why they react so sternly to any kind of attack at this time against their homeland and people.
I would like to point out that all the senators on Sue's list with the possible exceptions of Hagel and Collins are supporting the filibuster in the Senate. They are scared of voting.  If they vote to end the occcupation against the president they may lose campaign money from the base, and if they vote against ending the occupation they will lose thier election.  So they do nothing and hope no one notices.  Meanwhile, our soldiers are being killed while the Iraqi parliment is going on vacation for a month.  Stopping the vote to end the occupation is the same as extending the occupation.

Senators should not fear voting they should fear what thier constituants will do if they don't.
Stick a fork in Rudy - he's done.  Ditto McCain.

Ditto all the NeoCon shills still advocating for this failed administration and their awful policies and practices as well as their corrupt corporate enabling.

Oversight has been happening for just 6 months after 6 years of profound neglect.  Lookie lookie at what's coming to light.  Stay tuned, folks.  Soon the word "Republican" will be equated with the word "scumbag".  It's going to get more interesting.
Not so sure the South is as important anymore to Democratic candidates in 2008. Interesting article on what's been developing out west. The Democrats lost the south because of LBJ's Civil Rights Legislation. Nice huh? Must be tough to possibly not matter anymore to the rest of us during next year's presidential election. Or maybe not. The south don't much like us up here politically, so perhaps this is a good thing for them. We'll just ignore them in '08. Abraham Lincoln, some things never change.

*******
Ever since many Southern white voters switched to the Republican Party, Democrats have been asking how the party can win back the South.

Gary Hart, a former senator from Colorado, thought they were missing something.

"I kept saying, 'Hello? There's half a country west of the Mississippi,'" Hart said.

Hart, a former presidential candidate, says he has been telling fellow Democrats for three decades that they should focus efforts on the interior West to make up for some of those electoral votes lost in the South.

Now, a political science professor from the University of Maryland has taken that theory a step further. Tom Schaller, author of Whistling Past Dixie says Democrats should make the South their last priority. After all, both Al Gore and John Kerry came close to winning without getting even one electoral vote from the South. Schaller says the West may prove more productive for Democrats.

"It doesn't mean that they wouldn't want to win the South as well, it just means that they can get a majority without much help from the South and, in fact, that's what they've been doing recently," Schaller said.

Schaller points to states that have been Republican strongholds in presidential elections: Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona. These states have elected Republicans for president in nearly all of the previous 10 elections.

But now, all four states have Democratic governors. Montana voters gave three-term Republican Sen. Conrad Burns the boot in November. And there have been significant Democratic gains in Colorado.

Tom Schaller says Democrats can win the presidency if they give up their preoccupation with the South.

"The Democrats, for the first time in 52 years, find themselves the majority party in Congress, despite being the minority party in the South," Schaller said.

But giving up on the South is naive, according to Don Fowler, a longtime force in Southern Democratic politics, and former Democratic National Committee Chairman.

"No Democratic presidential candidate has ever won the presidency without carrying some southern states," he said. "Never, ever, ever."

Recognizing the concerns of party leaders from the South, Democrats under Howard Dean's leadership have adopted a 50-state strategy. Instead of shifting resources from one part of the country to another, the party is hiring organizers in every state.

Hart agrees with that strategy.

Still, he has advice on how the West could be won.

"There are three parties in the West — one is Democrat, one is Republican, the other is independent," he said. "Political fortunes are made in this region by which way the third party goes — the independents."

Hart says those unaffiliated voters have a libertarian streak. They were attracted to traditional Republican philosophy of limited government spending and setting a high bar for overseas military adventures. Hart says you can see why these folks might be interested in candidates from other parties these days. But cool it on the props, please.

"We can smell a phony about a hundred miles away," he said. "We got a lot of practice. And, somebody thinks they can come out here, buy a new pair of cowboy boots and win the West, they better think again."

Hart says candidates will have to talk about what's important in the West. Voters there tend to be more concerned about natural resource issues — like oil and gas drilling — than the social issues that tend to dominate politics elsewhere.

Recently Democrats announced their 2008 convention will be in Denver. And the party has put Nevada's caucus on the calendar between the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary.

It appears Democrats have learned one thing about the interior West. It's no longer just fly-over territory.

C A - A response to you from another thread....

C A – You are correct in that Bill O’Reilly uses the “Kool-Aide drinkers” to insult anyone who disagrees with him.  I took great offense to this for years.  I never used the phrase until recently; however, I am upset with myself for “giving in”.  This phrase exploits a tragedy beyond comprehension.  In addition, I believe it is a slap in the face to the families of the victims from which the phrase originated.  Here’s the history.

I was born and raised in San Francisco, and had just turned seventeen (17) years old when the horrible Jonestown mass suicide occurred. I, as did many, cry and grieve at this horrific event.  The Peoples Temple was in San Francisco and Jim Jones began his crusade of mass suicide there.

The first time I heard O’Reilly use his "Kool-Aide" alert, I was brought to tears, as it brought the horrid memories of the 913 victims who died from drinking the spiked "kool-aide" back in vivid detail. Not to mention the innocent people shot on planes when trying to flee, to include victims and news people from NBC.

I could not understand the tragedy, so I studied about Jim Jones, The Peoples Temple, the Concerned Relatives Group and everything else I could at that young age in my attempts to understand how something so horrible and tragic could happen.  It helped me deal with my grief. Having (and still was) attended Catholic school for twelve (12) years, I tried to ask questions, look to my faith, etc., but to no avail. As time passed, the wounds healed.

However, O’Reilly has been exploiting this for so long now it’s become common verbiage. I can't even imagine how the victims' families - mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, etc. feel when they see O’Reilly’s "Kool-Aide" alert and now, as a result, read it everywhere.

A history lesson might stop some from continuing to use the phrase; however, at this point, I doubt it.  I, too, have gone against something I said I would NEVER do and have used it, although just recently.  However, it makes no difference, as I do not believe it should be used at all. Yes, it can be perceived as funny to those who don’t understand its origin; however, in reality, it is not funny at all and is very disrespectful to family members and friends of all victims of the Jonestown tragedy and the innocent NBC reporters who were murdered in cold blood.

C A - I disagree with this.  I sincerely believe both Senator Obama's upbringing and race, having a black father and a white mother, have positively genuinely grounded him.

In my opinion, I see him as a man who has never left his roots and truly understands that Americans must play a role in the decision-making process in Washington.  I believe he is very down to earth and has not allowed his popularity or success to turn him into an egomaniac, as it HAS Rudy Giuliani. I also believe he is very sincere.

I'm glad that Carter didn't follow that "what's the point lets just give up attitude"

There are steps that can be taken History does prove it. It takes time it takes patience, and it takes alot of effort.

The Cold war took 60+ years but it did end.

K Collins: No one said give up. No one ever said not to defend oneself against those who would do you harm. What is being said is that the Bush strategy to fight and stem terrorism sucks, and when the US becomes the world's government then perhaps you can claim it would be defeatist not to try and take care of the world. And if you are so concerned with the hundreds and thousands of people in the world who end up dying from conflicts such as those that occur against some Arab countries and Israel, how about the thousands being slaughtered in various African nations. I don't see your great leader sending troops to help these defenseless people to live in peace. What is the problem? No oil there? There is a huge deference between being defeatist and knowing your limitations in trying to play the big brother for the entire world. And if you think this invasion of Iraq has served to improve the secuirty of the US and Israel against future terrorist attacks I have some swamp land in Florida I would love to sell you.

One last thing K. Collins. Are you a Chritian? Really none of my business, but if you are I suppose then you would call your savior, Jesus, a defeatist as well. Think he would support our men and women dying in Iraq by way of our own agression. He is the only big brother of this world and he will determine what happens to it. Not defeatist, for Christians a reality.

Thanks,
Pam & Pat, Obama will never get elected president at this time in this country, not only is he African-American but his father was also Muslim (which he of course vehemently denies in many different ways) thereby making him unelectable to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

K Collins and C A, with the US staunchly defending  Israel's every move and turning a blind eye to the atrocities they commit, there will never be peace between Israel and the Arab nations. There needs to be even-handed treatment before the US can appear credible to the world. But, of course, with Washington being run by supporters of Israel that will never happen.
PA Los Angeles (Sent Wednesday, July 18, 2007 3:47 PM)

Senator Obama does not deny is father, who his mother left when he was two years old, was a Muslim from Kenya.  He also speaks of his Arabic name, Barack.  I disagree.  He spoke in detail about this at his Keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention.

It would truly be sad indeed, if in 2007, race or gender would prevent someone from being elected president.  This truly makes me sick to my stomach.

Regarding Israel, I agree with you 1,000%!! Israel, in my opinion, has for far too long, been allowed to get away with far too much, while THIS Administration has co-signed their bullshit, or sat in silence.

Great job!!

PS: Senator Obama's late mother was Catholic and he was raised Catholic by his mother and grandparents. He isn't denying anything about his father's Islamic faith and never has.

PA: Not sure I agree on Obama. His main obstacle is Hillary Clinton. If not for Hillary then his next obstacle would be the press, not the American people. But you are most likely right. Obama won't make it in 08 as President. Unfortunately this is going to be a Hillary Clinton versus Rudy Guiliani general election campaign.

Regarding the US turning a blind eye to those actions Israel takes from time to time I don't disagree. On the other hand if I were a country surrounded by folks calling for our anniliation I just might be somewhat defensive and agressive as well to let these fanatics know I won't take no shit. I wonder how the folks in the US would react if for years folks from Mexico came across the border to blow the hell out anyone riding a bus or eating at a restuarant in those US States along the US / Mexican border. Think we might get alittle agressive? No doubt. The problem with the Palestinian extremist and Hamas is they have not learned to play the game yet. Instead of sending out suicide bombers and lobbing missles now and then over the borders, they should be seeking world-wide sympathy and support by acting like the poor trodden down mistreated people they claim to be, sucking up to the US and Israel, taking advantage by using this "poor us versus Israeli agression role" until the US agrees to bankroll their future, telling Israel to back off and shipping to the Palestinians advanced weapontry which seems to be a habit of ours for those who suck up to us.

C A, Tuscaloosa, Al (Sent Wednesday, July 18, 2007 4:48 PM)

Your writing on Israel, and about the Palestinian's, in my opinion, is very unfair.  Israel has occupied the West Bank and ruthlessly used its military to intimidate, threaten and murder innocent Palestinians living in “occupied” villages.

What you write is what is aired on network news in the US and most certainly is not a fair assessment of the tragic situation in that region.  Israeli soldiers, who have occupied the West Bank and the Gaza Strip for years, have murdered tens of thousands of Palestinians, including children and very young teenagers.  I don't condone ANY suicide bombings, but please, let's be fair about this.

The Palestinian people have been screwed over and over again, and for a very long time. You mention that nutcase from Iran's statement about blowing Israel off the planet, yet he's a puppet.  His words are VILE; however, he is a figure head.

Using recent statements is not at all fair to this conflict.  Israel has been ruthless and many, many innocent Palestinian children have been murdered as a result of Israel's continued bombing of civilian villages in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Israel needs to be put "in check" and fast; in addition George W. Bush has sat in silence and co-signed ALL of their BS.  The only person who has truly called Israel on their shit is former President Jimmy Carter - KUDOS TO THAT WONDERFUL MAN!!

PEACE!!
OK Pam/CA - I had vowed never to be "diplomat" again but I think both of you must surely realize that there is enough blame from both sides of the Israeli/Arab world conflict to go around. Right?

It always gets down to the "yeah but they did this!!!"

There will either be an ongoing contuing tension, a  diplomatic solution, or there will be complete annihilation of most of the area.

There will be no winners.

I see no other alternatives. Casting blame on either party will not help in any way.
C A -

PS: I stated many years ago that there would be no real peace in this conflict until both Yasar Arafat and Ariel Sharon were dead. Both men were too stubborn and set in their ways based on their pasts.

What I did not count on was George W. Bush, a president who smacks of arrogance, crimes, deceit and incompetence!!

I believe had Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter been president when these two met their fates, much progress would have been made by now; in addition, Israel WOULD have been put in their place!!

PEACE FRIEND!!
Independent, Texas (Sent Wednesday, July 18, 2007 5:12 PM)

I COMPLETELY agree with you, which is why I must defend Palestine when it appears that Israel has done no wrong. Both have done wrong; however, it is always the Palestinian people who are portrayed as the source of ALL EVIL in American media.

PEACE!!
Pam and Independent: Believe me I do not condone the aggession, actions and methods that Israel uses and has used against the Palestinian people, but I do not condone the Palestinian fanatics as well who do their share of blowing up inncocent people. The Palestinian people are not going to get anywhere uttil they can become united and organize themselves and find a rich and powerful backer. They will not be able to do so as long as they continue to have the infighting they do among themselves. Other nations see them as a disorganized rabble who cannot rule themselves even if given the opportunity. You cannot win whatever justifiable cause you are pursuing by taking on a military power like Israel with sticks and stones and a few strapped on bombs or errant missles. It won't happen. Kids throwing rocks at tanks will not get you anywhere. Get organized, stop the infighting, play the "poor us role", get a strong and powerful nation to support your cause and you will have a better leg to stand on to decrease or eliminate Israeli aggression. Give Israel an excuse by sending over teenage suicide bombers and they will send missles into your neighborhoods. That is not smart, that is ignorant. Like I said, the Palestinians need to learn how to play the game or they will never reach the status of a vibrant and stable nation. This is not stating a position that suports or defends Israel. It is a statement of reality for the Palestinain people. Instead of using the arm to pitch a rock at a tank, use the mind to organize and outsmart the Israels in the game of world politics. The Israelis have done their share of holding the Palestinian people down, but the Palestinain people are their own worst enemies.
C A - I agree with a great deal of what you have stated.  I also blame Yasar Arafat from walking away from that great peace deal, brokered by former President Bill Clinton. Arafat blew it - plain and simple!!

Yasar Arafat was never going to get anything done or work towards real peace.  Ariel Sharon was a BULLY who used his "might", provided by the United States, to continue intimidating the Palestinian people!!

George W. Bush has done nothing.  Hopefully, when he is finally out of office, a peace deal can be brokered.  I only hope that the world does recognize that Israel has not been some innocent victim in all of this either.

That was my point, as they have been guilty of atrocities beyond my comprehension.

PEACE!!
Pam, Obama may not actively deny that his father was a Muslim but he does point out that his father left Islam and that his step-father was an atheist. I would respect him more if he would just say that his father was a Muslim but he is a practicing Christian and leave it at that.

Regarding Israel, you have expressed my feelings beautifully. Being a muslim myself I'm not totally without bias in this matter and so will not comment further. I only wish that the Muslims in the region could live in peace.

PA - I have prayed for peace in this region for years, as it began during the Administration of President Jimmy Carter, my hero.  I was 13 when the Peace Accords took place.

I was married to a Jordanian for 16 years and he, too, was Muslim.  He was/is a horrible man in EVERY way possible; however, through the marriage and the birth of our twin daughters, RANA and REEMA, Arabic names and proud I gave them to them, I grew to understand the Islamic faith.  I also studied the conflict in that region in depth.

I lived in Amman, Jordan for a while and really learned a great deal about what is NOT reported in this country; however, the media HAS improved somewhat since then (1993-1994).

May Allah watch over you and please know that I pray for this every night.  My daughters, now 21 years old, just came back from a visiting Jordan a few weeks back.  They had not been there since they were eight, as I was able to "escape" (long story) after a terrible period.  However, I loved the people and the country. I will never forget how kind these wonderful people treated me.

I was very pleased that they went and although I have raised them Catholic, I have always tried my best to teach them about the beautiful cultural heritage and they stand proud!! They also stand proud by their names friend!!

Jimmy carter was a positive  force that disolved the tension btween Isreal and Egypt. Facts don't lie. I told you I am neither rep nor dem and I don't judge our executive branch based upon party propoganda. I base it upon the individual person. Carter is a humaintarian and just winner of the NPP. He deserved it.
Salaam Pam, thanks for your words, I really, really appreciate them. I'm so sorry that your ex-husband was a horrible man and that you had a tough marriage. May Allah bless you and your daughters, Rana and Reema. I hope you are happy now.

I've lived in this country half my life and to tell you the truth it's sad that I look back now and regret that I ever decided to settle here and raise a family. I worry about my two children who were born here, this is the only home they have ever known and yet what does the future hold for them if animosity towards Muslims are fostered in society? I'm thankful that I live in California though, people here are more receptive towards minority communities.

I spend 3 hours every day commuting to and from work so I don't get a chance to write too often but I always read your posts, they are very informative and sometimes very passionate. Take care, friend!
