Breaking: Blue-In-The-Face Watch

Posted: Thursday, July 26, 2007 12:41 PM by Countdown

Four members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have called on Solicitor General Paul Clement to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges of perjury, saying in a letter to Mr. Clement this afternoon that "It has become apparent that the attorney general has provided at a minimum half-truths and misleading statements." Ya think? Oh, and it gets better dear Newshole readers. Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy also announced the subpoena Karl Rove, Turdblossom-in-Chief.

As for whether the Special Counsel investigation ever actually happens, we'd advise you to refer back to the title of this post.

BLUE-IN-THE-FACE WATCH

Waiting to Karl Rove to testify, AND tell the whole truth.

Solicitor General Paul Clement needs to keep a look out for the Rovian smear campaign.

As for the 70% of us?  If cheney/bush have their way, we'll all be swapping stories at Gitmo, while we grow fat on the food and are never subjected to torture (sarcasm alert)

Enjoy
We see this expression on Fredo's face often. It's like the truth is fighting to get out, and our AG is holding it back with all his might.
I think congress needs to cancel thier break or at least shorten it.  We are in the midst of a constitutional crisis.  Our Attorney General doesn't think he has to tell congress the truth.  White house aides are ignoring subpeonas, if I ignored a subpeona I would expect to go to jail.  The vice-president has invented his own branch of government.  The president will not even allow the release of documents he had no part in.  The president commutes the sentence of a man who was convicted of doing what the vice-president told him to do.  They have illegally spied on americans a clear violation of the 4th amendment.  They even lied about the death of a green beret to his mother.  And we have soilders halfway around the world fighting in someone elses civil war.  Congress has to much serious business to do than to go on vacation.
Of course it is good that when they do go on vacation they will be met in thier home districts by oodles of angry citizens and maybe that will help build the fire under thier asses.
What embarrasses me is that this lying yahoo actually sat on the S.Ct. of Texas for a year.
I knew it, all of this bullshit was about laying a purgery trap.  These useless bunch of do nothing bastards in congress should just be hog tied, kicked out of office, and thrown in the nearest waste water treatment plant, before treatment of course.
Well said Jen!!!
THIS ENTIRE ADMINISTRATION HAS SEMEN ON “THEIR” DRESS!!

...PANTS ON FIRE!!

This Administration played the American public and used 9/11 to carry out every crime they have committed. They have manipulated the psyche of Americans, whose nature is to generally WANT to believe its leaders; we want to believe they are honest, decent and law abiding and had our best interests in their hearts after 9/11!!

This Administration counted on these “patriotic Americans” to defend them, as if they were defending America itself.
How pathetic!! They have relied, to preserve their power and continue their crime spree treating patriotic Americans like suckers. NO MORE!!
So it’s time for impeachment! Well, hell, the neo cons used a blue dress for their justification for Clinton. That was surely enough proof that such a horrible crime had been committed that impeachment was the ONLY way go against the most popular president ever!! Well, it didn’t actually work last time, but at least the neo cons got their impeachment proceedings started and were thrilled for a few weeks!

Oh, but it backfired!! Bill Clinton continued to be the most popular president ever and oh my God we weren’t all losing our houses to foreclosure and the dollar was worth like nine Euros, Al Gore hadn’t even invented global warming yet (hah!!) and we were still respected in the world.

PEACE!!
"I knew it, all of this bullshit was about laying a purgery trap.  These useless bunch of do nothing bastards in congress should just be hog tied, kicked out of office, and thrown in the nearest waste water treatment plant, before treatment of course."

Let see, the easiest way to keep from being caught in a "purgery" trap is to tell the truth.  He was warned prior to his testimony by both Specter and Leahy that he should TELL THE TRUTH.  If you tell the truth, you don't commit perjury and you don't get caught in a "purgery" trap.

Kinda have a touch of the old passive-aggressive in you, huh?  A lie isn't a lie if you don't get caught, but if you do get caught, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the person who caught you in it.
Pam :))))))))) OH MY GAWDDDDDDDDDDDD YOU KICK BUTT GIRLYYYYY AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Welcome BACK!!!!
The primary reason that Congress needs to cancel its August break is that during that time George Bush will likely use his "presidential powers" to invade another country without Congressional approval, probably Iran or Pakistan.

We need Congress to stay in session because they are the only thing that keep Bush/Cheney from going completely wild like they did the first 6 years of their reign.  Once the damage is done, you can't come back and undo it.

This is likely the reason that Bush is pushing so hard for the "defense funding bill" before recess.  This bill usually isn't addressed until the fall.  But with the money in hand, he can defy Congress once again.

You cannot compromise with Bush.  You cannot turn your back on him.  He is exactly what he calls the jihadists - pure evil.  And the fact that he says that he thinks God speaks through him and that he will continue to follow what God is telling him tells us that he is ------ a jihadist.

PEACE!!

Must be the BIZARO world or of something
I see Scott's using the same wingnut garbage talk. That's ok, we understand your frustration. Let me be a bit more subtle. Go to Lake Mead, find a short pier, and keep walking.

When,oh when will enough be enough?  How much longer is this going to take?  How many more boldfaced lies, half-truths and tissue-thin assertations of 'privilege' will we have to endure?  The nasty, festering smell of corruption coming from the administration is gagging.
Of all the foul odors pervading the Senate chamber, those that waft in the wake of Mr. Rove will be hard to even imagine...though sweeter still than the stench of putrification and brimstone carried by Mr. Cheney.  Good thing he's not going to be there any time soon.
Pam, I'm so glad you're back!! All feels a little more right with the world, now.

Jen IL (1:34 pm post), BEAUTIFULLY stated thoughts.

As I said in yesterday's thread about the contempt citations, go...go...GO! DON'T WIMP OUT! STAY STRONG!

Take the name "Clinton" out and replace with (almost any other name) and your statement could be more correct.
Disgusted, TX (Sent Thursday, July 26, 2007 2:04 PM)

Yep he does do that doesn't he.. waits till they are out and does something dasterdly.. Ugh..
Murtha is still talking about giving them money.. I don't know how soon, but I read it on C-Span yesterday..
Take the name "Clinton" out and replace with (almost any other name) and your statement could be more correct.
democrat, IL (Sent Thursday, July 26, 2007 2:11 PM)

With all due respect "democrat", my statement is correct.  Former President Bill Clinton left office with the highest approval ratings of any president in US history. I really doubt George W. Bush will overcome him – hah!!

No mistake and certainly no need to change the name.  He also left the country respected, trusted and with a "few bucks" in the bank.

PEACE!!

Disgusted-NY

Thanks for the support, it truly touched my heart.

God Bless!!
Brenda & Krista -

Thank you very much.  I needed to get away and remember what my real goals are here and in the world.  Prayers work wonders, as do GOOD friends (smile all of you)!!

Jen - With you 100%!  Who knows what the Commander Inept and his sidekick Dr. Evil will do when Congress is out of town?

Pam - Once again, an excellent post.  Peace!

Welcome back, Pam.  America needs more people like you to speak out.  America also needs more forums on which to speak out.

Yahoo did away with its comments shortly after the 2006 election (probably just a coincidence) but I think the opinions expressed there had a profound effect on the election and I would like to know the real reason they were stopped.

Thanks to MSNBCTV for these blogs on which we can still express our opnions.
Disgusted in Tx

"The primary reason that Congress needs to cancel its August break is that during that time George Bush will likely use his "presidential powers" to invade another country without Congressional approval, probably Iran or Pakistan.   "

That is a bit far fetched, don't you think.

Jen il
"I think congress needs to cancel thier break or at least shorten it.  We are in the midst of a constitutional crisis.  Our Attorney General doesn't think he has to tell congress the truth. "

There is no constitutional crisis.  I would agree that Gonzales needs to step down and put an end to this madness.  Your rights have not been trampled.  Last I checked, my life has not been changed one bit.  If wiretapping can prevent tipping off terrorists who are plotting, then go do it.  It will not affect the average citizen.  This is necessary in the post 9-11 world, unfortunately.
When you guys mention Slick Willy it just brings back thoughts of how great it would be to have that coon dog from Hope, Arkansas back in office again. Would be fun times. No occupation in Iraq, no lies except those about the blow jobs he gets, some intelligence in the office, has some respect from other heads of states. Plays the sax for us now and then on Jay Leno. The economy is still good and the budget uch closer to being balanced. Hillary wouldn't be running to ruin it all. Oh for the good ole days.

Regarding Gonzo. Long overdue this guy resigns. That face in the picture acknowledges he has had it. He'll be resigning soon.
Could it be that the whole Rovian Scooter-skate (and its auto-pilot, on-cue, on-message baying by the Republican and ethics-challenged hounds) was just an attempt to soften up the American psyche towards the premise that perjury really isn't all that bad?

I mean, what we heard was: it was just a little bit, it wasn't really important, it didn't matter, and it was by a loyal guy who had worked for the government. And he had a family.

So that, when the real, big-time Republican perjurers come to the dock--all of whom will have worked for the government--maybe the public won't be so outraged and be so (rightfully) demanding of scalps.

It might be the only real hope they have.
This is something I have thought since I first saw this picture earlier this week, but how ominous does it look you can almost hear the storm trooper music from Star Wars.
Pam: That's better. I knew I could count on you. A little rest hurts no one. But glad your rest has ended. Now on to the bastille. Perhaps I will not take so long to defend if necessary. I apologize.
I see that Rep. Sensenbrenner is suggesting that the house file a civil suit against the administration's executive privilege claim.  Pretty smug and cynical from a guy who knows full well who controls the courts.  Sue 'em an lose.  Good idea.  I like subpoenas, contempt of Congress, and impeachment so much better.  But wait, who would preside if someone wanted to impeach Bush, Cheney, or Gonzales?  Would that be Chief Justice Roberts?  Now does everyone finally see how we are getting exactly what we deserve for all these years when progressives let thing after horrifying thing slide?  A lawless and reckless administration, a stacked court, and an impotent Congress.  The Bush administration got all the mechanisms in place while the democrats fiddled, and they know they can wait us out.  And even if democrats win the White House in 2008, it will take years upon years to undo all the damage.  See you at Gitmo, Countdown.  Bring those Harry Potter books.
There is no constitutional crisis.  I would agree that "Gonzales needs to step down and put an end to this madness.  Your rights have not been trampled.  Last I checked, my life has not been changed one bit.  If wiretapping can prevent tipping off terrorists who are plotting, then go do it.  It will not affect the average citizen.  This is necessary in the post 9-11 world, unfortunately."

Gonzales stepping aside will not put an end to the madness.  I will have to disagree with the rest of this statement, too.  We have ALL been affected by the wanton disregard this administration has exhibited for the Constitution.  Losing our rights has nothing to do with a "post 9/11 world."  I will again ask you to please research the powers that be behind this administration.  Research the teachings of Leo Strauss, the writings of Irving Kristol and the history of the neo-conservative fka neo-liberal movement in this country.  It has nothing to do with   a "post 9/11 world."  It is a political philosophy which requires that the unwashed masses be kept fearful and on alert.  It's a means of control.

These folks all need to go and quickly.
K. Collins, USN (Sent Thursday, July 26, 2007 2:19 PM)

Thank you K - And although we did not start off "right", and as you stated, we both got our "words" in, I have really grown to respect you.

Thanks!!

Disgusted-TX  & L A Seattle - Thank you!! L A, I've never stopped praying for you and your family!!

They are discissing the NSL.. here is the information on this subject

This is why I say that the Patriot Act and any Act passed by the Congress and Senate from the time Bushy Jr. took office to present need to be REMOVED!
Keith, why do you make such a statement or question.. Bush has done it before, why wouldn't he do it again??? Far Fetched nope...he's a repeater.
I know this doesn't have anything to do with the Gonzalez mess, but the item that really got to me last night was the one with Sgt. Shannon, the wounded veteran, and the statement KO made that Tony Snow said the president wasn't going to move on the recommendations for the improvement of the medical care to be given to the wounded veterans. Whether you think that Bush is right on Iraq or not, what the hell are they doing? What ever happened to " our soldiers deserve nothing but the best" ? Don Imus, before he got fired actually helped shame Congress into raising the death benefit from 12,500 up to 250,000, I think. How can you ask these men and women to fight and die or come home maimed and not take care of them?  Is there something I'm missing here?
C A, Tuscaloosa

Yep sure look's like that Face! is saying F--k i'm done!. Let's just say though that he does not resign, you think the President will still support him?
Keith in Allentown, PA (2:53 pm post)..."It will not affect the average citizen"? How do you know it hasn't affected you? I respectfully disagree.

This administration has gleefully tossed American civil liberties and our CONSTITUTIONALLY GUARANTEED RIGHTS out the window. They can tap YOUR PHONE, they can open YOUR MAIL, they can get access to YOUR EMAIL, and if you donate to a charity that turns out to be some sort of "front" for a "terrorist" organization, but you didn't know it, they can toss you in a jail somewhere, throw away the key, not let you have access to a lawyer, and not even tell you why you're being held. I am paraphrasing the great Ben Franklin when he said if you're willing to give up liberty for a little bit of freedom, you deserve neither freedom nor liberty.

I know you love our country, I appreciate your comments and contributions to this forum, and I am happy to see you agree that it's time for AG to go.
Yeah PAM!!!!
C A in Tuscaloosa (2:56 pm post)...kind of looks like he's gonna upchuck to me... ;)
Actually the recess is a GOOD idea- gives them the chance to get away from the Beltway and talk to Mr and Mrs Smith on Main Street. Who will calmly tell him in no uncertain terms- to IMPEACH THE F*CKING BASTARDS!
Keith-  How long do we wait to for our rights to be trampled?  Do we wait until people start disappearing?  We already know american citizens have been held for 4years without charges being brought.  Did innocent until proven guilty end on 9/11? Is it now guilty if the president says so? Now he can also cease your assests if he decides you are working against Iraq, whatever the hell that means.  You don't get to go to court you don't get a lawyer you can just loose all your assets.
If it is now okay to spy on americans without cause. If it is now okay to imprison people without access to courts and take all thier assets based on the decision of one man than Bin Laden has already won.

America will never be defeated by another country or terrorist organization, instead it is people like you who are willing to trade your liberty for a little temporary security that will bring down the nation.  And in the words of Ben Franklin "those who trade liberty for a little temporary freedom deserve neither."   And ultimatly get neither.
Well it's about time!! I'm sure everyone within this Administration will all be hiding their "BLUE DRESSES"!!

Or perhaps they will pull an "Oliver North" and SHRED THEM!!

Associated Press
"WASHINGTON - Senate Democrats called for a perjury investigation against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on Thursday and subpoenaed top presidential aide Karl Rove in a deepening political and legal clash with the Bush administration."

PEACE!!
CA- Sometimes I think about what the country would be like if the Supreme Court had not installed bush.  There would be no war in Iraq, I doubt we would have been attacked on 9/11.  Gore was aware of Al Qeada and would have kept them the priority they were during Clinton.  New Orleans would have already been rebuilt by the people who actually live there. Our cars would get 50mpg.  The air would be cleaner. We would all have health insurance.  And the rest of the world would still respectus.  The only down side I can think of is that comedians would have to work a little harder 6yrs of how boring Gore is jokes would get a little tedious.
Welcome back, Pam. I hope you've learned to ignore the bile from the sick puppies.
Where's Jamie?
Pam Bignardi;

See what i mean, democrat,IL can't except the fact's can't even come up with a name on his own to replace President Clinton's name in that sentence, so just leave's a vague response!

junebug right you are!

Scott's desperation is also showing with no legit response attack's the committee for catching him in the lie. Scott the Administration & some Repulicans keep using the talking point calling this a fishing expedetion, what's to worry if there are no fish in your pond, I say hell let's Go Fish! & Let's hope they know what to do with the catch after!
The AP is reporting that FBI Director Mueller's testimony today contradicts Gonzo's testimony about the hospital bedside discussion with Ashcroft.>>WASHINGTON - FBI Director Robert S. Mueller said Thursday the government's terrorist surveillance program was the topic of a 2004 hospital room dispute between top Bush administration officials, contradicting Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' sworn Senate testimony.<<

Welcome back Pam. I missed all of the BS, These other rookies don't hold a candle to you. I must respectfully disagree on your assessment of the illustrious Bill Clinton. Talk about passing the buck to the next president. He ignored the bombing of the Marine towers, the bombing of our embassy, the bombing of the USS Cole , all with many US casualties. He didn't want to get involved because A) didn't have a clue what to do or B) Sandy Burgular told it would be a bad idea to piss off the terrorist. Either way it was not a good plan for America. We need to ask Sandy what docs he destroyed to cover Clinton's ass.  SO , again you tell half truths to mislead. Bottom line , Clinton's inaction led to the terrorist's action on 9/11.

We welcome all of the investigations from the liberals. You see, the more you investigate the less you can work on worthless legislation. In the end , the inaction of the liberal (progressive) Congress will be it's downfall in 08. Looking better for the good guys (REPUBLICANS) every day.

More news: Remember that MTV interview Clinton did where we found out he preferred boxers ? I just heard Hillary is next on the MTV interview. Granny panties or thongs ? God help us all !
If we have now become a Nation ruled by Executive Orders
from One Branch.Well Congress somebody better grab the helm. Starting to look a little like Dubyass instead of Texas two steppin is now Fuhrer Nazi Goose Stepping.
Where there is a Karl there could Seig Dubyass!
Real these jerks in before the old guard that CA talks about has to take the Country back so Congress can do it's job.
Enforce the Constitution.De fund his War completely!
And I am pretty sure it's your job to make the laws and not some dumb ass from Connecticut and that leads people to believe he is a Texan and has appointed himself the dictator of the United States to rule by Executive Order. What the hell is wrong with you impotent bastards in Congress that won't do anything.
Well will excuse the Cheney Rover Klingons , McConnell,Boehner,Graham and that silly ass bunch of butt kissers, but the rest of ya get whatever it takes and start enforcing the Constitution and doing your job. This Country is not run by Executive Orders. That would be something by a dictator. This shit has got to stop and his little side kick Poncho Alfredo Gonzo has got to go.

Pelosi and Reid get off your arses and do your jobs or it's going to come to old school style aka. 1776 with
Keith, Allentown PA (Sent Thursday, July 26, 2007 2:53 PM)

Keith, with all due respect, and I sincerely mean that, our civil liberties have not just been trampled upon, they have been BOMBED!!

No Constitutional Crisis? Ok.  The "Rainbow of Bright Colors Terror Trump Card Deck", better known as the 64-color crayon box used by this Administration (Crayola stock prices soar) to instill fear in Americans has indeed resulted in the RAPING of our Constitution sir!!

And where oh where did Habeas Corpus’ go? It’s been on permanent hiatus during this Administration sir. Do you honestly believe eavesdropping on domestic personal conversations, to include yours, is really preventing terrorism?  Do you honestly believe that the opening and reading of personal mail of Americans, to include birthday cards from my mother and elderly relatives, is preventing terrorism sir?  This is illegal and in violation of our Constitution.

Warrantless wiretapping is certainly a violation sir, as that is the purpose of the FISA court. “‘The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act’ (FISA) of 1978 prescribes procedures for the physical and electronic surveillance and collection of "foreign intelligence information" between or among ‘foreign powers’. Are you a foreign power sir? I know I am not. This Administration has already admitted to (through the ardent and relentless efforts of “some” democrats) that what they have done is illegal. However, this Administration prefers to see it as “aggressive efforts”.  Well, I have to agree there, they are aggressors and they have been exposed as such. They then cowardly hide behind “Executive Privilege”, which was certainly NOT their best friend during the Administration of Bill Clinton.  Oh but now it is their “bestest buddy”!!

You will realize one day what precious liberties you have lost under this Administration sir; in addition, you will discover how our Constitution has been used by this Administration in lieu of toilet paper.  I sincerely hope that day comes soon and I mean that with all my heart.  I won't go on as I've learned here from past mistakes that I can only plant a seed and hopefully your understanding will grow like a beautiful flower. May God bless you.

PEACE!!
Scott

"Perjury trap"???  He was asked by the committee members more than once if he wished to change his answer.  AG Gonzales repeatedly responded "No".  At the end of the hearing AG Gonzales was reminded the record would be open and he could revise his statements, as appropriate.  A designee at DOJ has stated AG Gonzales declines to make any changes to his testimony.  With the numerous opportunities he as been allowed including motice that committee members felt that his statements appear to be in conflict; I fail to see anything approaching a trap.  In fact it appears that most of the Senators, Republicans and Democrats alike have repeatedly offered AG Gonzales opportunities to correct the record.  If you were setting a trap I do not believe you would offer as many means and inform the AG that he should consider reviewing the record and making changes he views as appropriate.
Welcome back real debate & discussions of the issues that affect all of us.
I read this blog to learn what others are thinking - not to read vitriol. By doing this in a rational fashion, we realize how much the politicians are not reflecting the views of their constituents.
Many of you have let them know that "We, the people" are not happy with the status quo, by expressing your views clearly & calmly.
I can speak only from experience, but if someone yells at me, I stop listening. Might does NOT make right!
