The Truth About Tillman

Posted: Friday, July 27, 2007 2:31 AM by Countdown

Keith reported on this tonight, but the AP write up is worth a read.  This is just brutal.

SAN FRANCISCO -

Army medical examiners were suspicious about the close proximity of the three bullet holes in Pat Tillman's forehead and tried without success to get authorities to investigate whether the former NFL player's death amounted to a crime, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

"The medical evidence did not match up with the, with the scenario as described," a doctor who examined Tillman's body after he was killed on the battlefield in Afghanistan in 2004 told investigators.

The doctors - whose names were blacked out - said that the bullet holes were so close together that it appeared the Army Ranger was cut down by an M-16 fired from a mere 10 yards or so away.

Ultimately, the Pentagon did conduct a criminal investigation, and asked Tillman's comrades whether he was disliked by his men and whether they had any reason to believe he was deliberately killed. The Pentagon eventually ruled that Tillman's death at the hands of his comrades was a friendly-fire accident

Pat Tillman believed strongly enough in fighting the *real* war on terror to set aside a lucrative career in pro football to serve his country. He did not, however, believe we needed to be in Iraq.

That his death was a "friendly fire" accident might be easier to believe were it not for the degree of effort put forward to conceal the circumstances of his death from his family and the American people. Instead, a series of different misleading and contradictory stories has been offered, while Bush and company attempted to make Tillman a posthumous "poster boy" for "the cause". Failing that, this administration has attempted to make the whole story just go away. More than ever, one must doubt that Tillman's death was simply a tragic misfortune, and insist that the investigation be reopened.

Guys on the ground know: "Friendly fire" isn't.
Friendly fire happens in any war. What makes this so sick is how DOJ used Tillman as a recruiting tool.
KO great show last night especially with Wesley Clark. It saddens and angers me for the government to think we are that stupid and gullible to believe this had anything to do with "friendly fire". This is utter B******* to me any other US citizen wanting our troops to come home safely. The coroners report denies the reports that the 3 bullets logged in Pat Tillmans forehead could have been shot far away. Look, this was up close and personal. Personal now to the family, friends and supporters of Pat Tillman and demanding answers. They say the truth will set you free, we know the truth now, we need to be freed of the lies that permeate behind this and get justice for this unspeakable crime. Peace to all, Denise!
Wow!!! It's begining to look a lot like Baron Munchausen around here. If you don't know what i'm talking about, see the Terry Gilliam movie NOW!!!! Maybe he had Bin Laden by the neck and was ordered to let him go.   Hmmmmmm......
M McKenzie/Tuscaloosa: Welcome M. Yes, the town is pretty (as you say, red ass). How are you surviving? smile.

Just more trauma and sad news for the Tillman family. If something is blacked out it was meant to be hidden or erased. The question is why? There is much more to this story then what there appears.
Good morning. Like I said in the previous thread, this cover-up is beyond shameful and is further proof that this administration will DO ANYTHING to maintain the poster-boy image of Pat Tillman in "the war on terror", even at the expense of the American people's right to know (to a point) and, more tragically, at the expense of the Tillman family's right to know, which they deserve more than the rest of us.
Will you listen to yourself.  Now you are trying to resurrect a conspiracy that the Bush Administration had something to do with Pat Tillman's death.  Now you have gone too far. Is everything, including a recent bout of diarrhea, caused by Bush.  Please, for the sake of Mr. Tillman, let these conspiracies rest.  Did the military mishandle it, yes, but that was taken care of yesterday with the demotion of a general.
I had said not to long after I joined here on this blog I do believe the last time Keith had something on Pat Tillman that he was killed on purpose and my thoughts were the reason he was is because he was going to come home and say some things that they didn't want anyone to know.. Like there is no boogie man... exposing that there is no boogie man, would just ruin everything they've worked to do.. the New World Order..
As Fred Fielding should know, when you cover something up, when it gets out, it's worse than if you had simply told the truth to begin with.

Truth will always get out.

Too bad that Kissinger didn't explain that better when he made all those 'Iraq debacle' coaching visits to '43'.

Too bad '43' doesn't know that taking advice from the losing coach of the Vietnam War isn't going to help you win the Iraq debacle.

Too bad '43' wasn't Gore.  I really believe that he wouldn't have gotten us into this mess.

Ah well, if wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.

Enjoy
Officers were fragged in Vietnam - so it's not new and the Military would not want it in the press !!!
Just when I think I can't possibly be more ashamed of my country I learn someone prevented the investigation of the possible murder of one of our soldiers.  The same day there is testimony in front of congress that our lovely new embassy in Iraq was built by slave labor.  Men were kidnapped and brought to Iraq to build the embassy we all paid for.  I weap for my country, we saved the world from fascism, eradicted small pox from the planet and put a man on the moon. Now, it seems we have clearly lost our way.
In something like this, the truth is there at the beginning.  But this is war, and the fog sets in shortly after that beginning.  The farther away you get, the harder it is to ressurect that truth, especially in the atmosphere this Administration set up.
Keith, Allentown PA (Sent Friday, July 27, 2007 9:13 AM)

Keith - My concern over this is less that Tillman's death was orchestrated than the manner in which it was handled. The PR campaign about this military action - it is NOT a war - started with the staged (filmed 3 times before they got what they wanted) pull-down of the statues and other displays of S. Hussein. Tillman's death was handled badly because the administration wanted to continue building positive support for the Iraq incursion.

That is what is so disgusting about this. If, in fact, we find any evidence that Tillman's death was caused by anybody's opinion of Tillman's view on the Iraq situation, then we are talking murder and we are talking CRIMINAL acts that need to be investigated. I'm not willing to go that far yet.

Unfortunately it is true that in any military action there will be "friendly fire, "fragging", and other deaths that are not the result of enemy fire. When all that is investigated, I will feel more comfortable with the result.

Right now we have proof that at the very least, the administration and the Pentagon's political leadership have in, a very disgusting way, tried to benefit from Tillman's death. That alone is enough for me to want to drive the entire cabal out of office.

Thank you.
Keith- Demoting a retired general for preventing the investigation that three doctors thought was warrented is not enough punishment for this crime.  There pentagon officals involved who have not been punished and no one knows where the order not to investigate originated.  As much as the administration would like this to be the end of the story it is just the beginning.  If a proper investigation had been done immediatly after the story would have ended then, but since there was none there will always be questions as to what really happened and who ordered the cover up.
The sad thing about this is that our first reaction is that it's possible & not that it's impossible to believe, Daily, we have more & more reason to be cynical. So sad.
It is utterly preposterous to me to even consider the idea that Pat was murdered.  I know it's difficult to believe anything that the administration puts out these days, but Pat's death was not a murder, it was a clear case of friendly-fire.  The reason I know this is because Pat was my friend and I was in the same Ranger Platoon as him.  It was extremely difficult to watch the show last night and see Keith speculate that Pat's friends deliberately shot him.  Everyone in the Black Sheep loved Pat and no one cared about his past or his politics, he was just another one of the guys.  In the near future it is my hope that the step by step account of that day will be brought before the public eye, mostly likely in the form of Jon Krakauer's upcoming book.  Furthermore, I think it would be interesting if Keith would have on his show, members of the Platoon that have been interviewed on other shows, most notably "Outside the Lines", and truly get to the bottom of the issue with facts from the guys who were actually there.
Another point - the PR campaign re Tillman backfired a bit where the military rank-and-file were concerned. A relative of mine who has had tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan said that some were kind of ticked off that Tillman's death was played up so much "because he gave up a lucrative NFL career". He said that that made the rest of them feel that giving up their own lives weren't as important.

That was what I had been thinking as well when the "hero" part was being trumpeted so loudly.

Please  do not misunderstand me. I do think that Tillman was a hero. I do appreciate more than I can say that he demonstrated true resolve (more than most Paris-Hilton-loving-sitting-in-the-recliners-in-front-of-the-TV-or-waiting-for-an-i-phone-American-who-would-never-consider-putting-his/her-own-lazy-rear-at-risk) by joining up.

I deeply deeply regret that he paid the ultimate prices for that heroism and am disgusted that his sacrifice was used as it was. This is similar to the way that Jessica Lynch (was that her name) was handled and I was truly impressed when she testified before Congress to that effect. (Sure hope I got the name right.)
Didn't Keith report last night that individuals sent emails congratulating each other on the fact that they were able to conceal the circumstances of his death from his family?

My God, these soldiers are VOLUNTEERING to serve our country. VOLUNTEERING.

Apparently Pat Tillman read Noam Chomsky' books and planned to meet Mr.Chomsky after his tour of duty. The plot thickens and exactly for the sake of Pat Tillman and his brave family, this HAS to be persued to the fullest.Don't let this bastards get away with murder!Helen Edwards
Why tell the truth when a lie will suffice.  The truth would hurt Bushie's war effort.  Solution:  make a hero, promote the war.  This is Cheney's thinking:  the less the people know, the more we can tell them OUR truth.
This is going to be very intersting as now the media has something to investigate. I am looking forward to information leading to DoD involvement in this matter that links an ideologue of Bush to the possible murder of Tillman. I am looking forward to people in Tillman's platoon being debriefed on the matter of his death and the revelation that Tillman was "off-ed". The same people who could be linked to a "backdoor" with bin Laden can also be linked to Tillman's questionable death. Question is: Who ordered Tillman's death?
Tillman was not fragged.  He was either shot accidentally by a "panicky comrade", or he was murdered. If accidental, telling the truth right away would have prevented all of this controversy, so why didn't they do it?  Tillman's mother has said from the beginning that he was murdered, but she either isn't saying why she believes this, or no media outlet is telling everything she's said.  Anyone know why she's saying this?

And this is a good thing?  Would you want to serve with someone who did that?  Honor would only be restored with truth, and with the culprits punished and removed.

Perhaps he saw torture or something else and threatened to report it??

BTW, Please report on Gorbachev's statement today about US imperialism.  If you don't yet believe that this is why we are in Iraq, you don't deserve to be on the news.
Dear Moderators.. why did you not put up my post about the Docmumentary Hacking Democracy and what I thought about it, what I was going to do.. and why the Dems were given the majority but not enough to override a Veto.. I thought I may be missing it somewhere but I have searched the last two pages looking for it.. Did I say something that might be so truthful that you didn't even want to put it here? Just wondering... Thanks
I hope you all take a moment to read the article MSNBC has just posted from Reuters and see what Gorbachev has to say about our President. It's pretty devastating.
Steve Turner: You are most likely correct in your assessment.
The truth will come come out about everything this administration has done behind the scenes for years, and when it does I hope those who still think Bush & Co are so righteous and good, will hide their heads in shame...
Am I the only one who misses Jamie and Sue?  I guess so.  Last posts were days ago for both of them.  Sue's last one said she was posting couple of things before taking kids to museum.
For once, I'm with Keith in PA. (Settle down, settle down!) Much as I'd love to send the Bush administration as a whole to Leavenworth (No, not Abu Graib; just think of the fun and games waiting in military lockdown for someone who started this war on a lie), the investigation of Pat Tillman's murder -- and it WAS a murder -- was mishandled primarily by the military leadership; Rove and Co. just took advantage of it, unmitigated parasites that they are. This isn't Abu Graib, which is something that the entire administration should be hammered for. This was just a "happy accident" they folded into their news cycle. That makes them a thicker grade of slime, not criminals. We got _plenty_ of other stuff that makes them criminals!
Jen
I can understand how you feel. But don't be ashamed of our country, instead be sorrowful about what is being done to our country. Be angry enough to fight back. Keith and many others are leading the fight.
Let us all join with those who seek to remove the "people" who for selfish reasons are destroying the the noble values of the country.
Since I began making telephone calls to Congress, several times I felt like my call was a drop in the political ocean.

However, I have never given up and I refuse to give up. Pat Tillman, a brave and selfless man, was used by this Administration for political purposes. The lies, the cover up, the injustice to his family, abuse of "Executive Privilege" to deny his family the truth and some form of closure is just one more despicable act by this Administration. No words can describe the evil behind these contemptible and shameful actions of George W. Bush. He has exploited this courageous  and noble man. We cannot let up on Congress, we must continue to make our voices heard and we must continue to demand impeachment – NOW!!

We, as Americans, must unite and continue (or begin) to make these telephone calls to Congress.  Our democracy is in trouble, our brave men and women of the military are dying and I urge everyone here to pick up their phones!!

Why?

Do it because the “Invasion/Occupation” in Iraq is a disaster, and our brave men and women who are fighting and dying there need an honorable and immediate path home.

Do it because the Iraqis are dying by the thousands and our continued occupation is a basis for triggering more innocent deaths.

Do it because George W. Bush and this Administration have methodically and with malice of forethought chipped away at our fundamental rights, rights guaranteed every citizen, that made our great country a guiding light of freedom. The majority of these rights have been stripped from us and we must shout no more!!

Do it because of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay. Do it to tell the world that America won't sanction torture and we demand the politicians who do be fired or removed from office.

Do it because nearly six years after September 11th, George W. Bush and his Administration have made us all less safe.

Do it because our government shouldn't be able to wire-tap innocent citizens without a warrant.

Do it because in the wealthiest nation in the world our injured brave men and women cannot receive the medical care and critical treatment the need when they return because George W. Bush has knowingly and willingly made sure our tax dollars have gone to Halliburton and NOT our troops.

Do it because the country we all love needs all of our help. Our democracy is in trouble. America needs you and you can come to her aid.

And do it for Pat Tillman!!

We must all speak up, speak loud, speak united and speak now!!

PEACE!!
Keith, Allentown PA (Sent Friday, July 27, 2007 9:13 AM)

Again sir, this is a direct result of what George W. Bush and his Administration have done to this country.

We should trust why? We should believe why?

When "We the People" have been lied to infinite times by this Administration, headed by a man who hides behind Executive Privilege to prevent more lies and criminal actions committed from being exposed, this is the consequence. It is undeniably a very heartbreaking one; however it is an accurate one.

As I have stated here before, if America were to look in a mirror right now, it would not recognize itself!!

That's "why"!!

PEACE!!
The issue is not whether BushCo had anything to do with Tillman's death. The issue is now and always been to determine the truth of how he died, since it has been  proved that the military portrayed him as a victim of hostile action when in fact his death was, at best, a result of friendly fire.  As usual in these cases, it is not the "event" (in this case a death of a man involved in a combat theater) but the disturbing lies told to the man's family and the country and the resultant cover-up that is creating problems for the people involved.  The new documents simply raise more questions about how he died (Editor and Publisher, the media journal, asks bluntly, "Was it murder?") and why the military was so glad to have covered it up.

This isn't about Bush, directly--although a good case can be made that the administration has surely made lying and covering up the default mechanism when anything goes wrong.  Or to put it another way, the fish stinks from the head.
Update?
'Will you listen to yourself.  Now you are trying to resurrect a conspiracy that the Bush Administration had something to do with Pat Tillman's death.  Now you have gone too far. Keith, Allentown PA (Sent Friday, July 27, 2007 9:13 AM)'

It's not that people blame the president for Pat Tilman being killed, it's this governments covering up of a 'friendly fire' incident.  Unfortunately 'friendly fire' does happen-it's sad.  However, the government doesn't usually go to great lengths to hide it.

Why not just come out and say he was killed by friendly fire?  Why the need, even after they were given information to the such, before the President spoke to his family, to cover it up?
Hellooooooo. Any body home at News Hole??

Helloooooooo?
And I kept saying to myself- "executive privlege"??  Why on earth would THAT come up in relation to the Pat Tillman story??   Well, geez- dumb me.
Can't help but wonder what truth they are hiding regarding Pat Tillman's death. They invoked executive privilege after all. Don't these people have any shame? Any sense of responsibility toward's Tillman's family? Sorry, forgot for a moment who I'm talking about. After all, they have proven time and time again they are totally lacking in basic human qualities.

What a menagerie this administration is! Cheney is the slimy, slithering snake; Rove is the maggot, Rice must be that elusive skunk ape; Snow is the  devious hyena, Gonzales is the lying weasel and GWB? That's the easiest one of all, he is the goat, can't you tell by his cloven hoof?
Tony Snow, “The Sequel” comes as no surprise.  While on the “Sly Fox Channel”, Snow lied to his audience of puppets numerous times.  The “Tony Snow Show” was merely a pilot for his new series, “THE PANTS ON FIRE SHOW”.

Following are numerous additional claims (lies) by Snow during numerous “pilot” tapings:

- Warrantless domestic surveillance

Snow stated, “the Democrats objected to George W. Bush's warrantless spying because they think the government should not be able to listen to Al Qaeda and that Democratic opposition to the warrantless domestic surveillance program arose from the belief that the government should not be able to listen to Al Qaeda people talking to American citizens." Further, Snow claimed that the lack of additional domestic terrorist attacks was "a sign of the program's success."
-  Bad move Tony!!

Not only was this claim false, it was first made by none other than Karl Rove during an address to the RNC and spread like a wildfire among numerous neo con talking heads.

To the contrary, NO national Democratic figure, member of the Democratic leadership in Congress, Democratic governor, or Democratic Party official had ever said that the United States should not be intercepting calls suspected to involve Al Qaeda. Snow's claims about the program's effectiveness are not supported by the evidence.
-  More Bad News Snow!!

PANTS ON FIRE!!

...Still burning!!

Snow also claimed that “former President Jimmy Carter, just as George W. Bush has done, authorized warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens and had signed an executive order that authorized the attorney general to approve electronic surveillance to acquire foreign intelligence information."
-  Oh, but “Pants on Fire” didn’t stop there!!

Snow stated that Carter’s program was "exactly what the president is doing."
-  The fire rages on Snow!!

Snow “ignored” a crucial difference!! Carter, unlike Bush, PROHIBITED such surveillance of US citizens.
-  Someone quickly give him a fire extinguisher!!

Carter's order specifically required the attorney general to certify that the surveillance did not contain "the contents of any communication to which a United States person is a party."
-  Too late!!

- Claimed that the FISA probable cause standard kept the FBI from inspecting Zacarias Moussaoui's laptop:
-  The Fire Spreads!!

Snow stated that “FBI agents in possession of Zacarias Moussaoui's laptop decided not to go ahead and look at the contents because they had no definite proof that the guy was a terrorist and, therefore, couldn't meet the probable cause standard necessary for a warrant under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).”
-  Really Ball of Fire?

Snow ignored the BIPARTISAN finding by the Senate Judiciary Committee that the investigators had possessed sufficient evidence, and it FBI attorneys “had applied a too-stringent standard for establishing probable, preventing the investigators from petitioning the court for authorization.”
-  Whoops!! Bipartisanship does not agree with fire!!

- Claimed that 2002 FISA review court opinion allowed for warrantless domestic surveillance

Snow stated that a 2002 opinion (In re: Sealed Case No. 02-001) by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review "says the president's inherent authority allows him to eavesdrop on the international communications of US residents.”
-  Raging, Snow, Raging!!

Let’s finish the story Tony!! The court did NOT rule on the question of whether a president has the constitutional authority to spy on people in the United States without a warrant, in apparent violation of FISA in which the court said only that the president has inherent authority to conduct foreign intelligence surveillance without a warrant.
-  Raging out of Control Snow!!

- CIA leak investigation

Snow claimed that Wilson said Cheney had sent him to Niger, and wrote, “former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV said he had been dispatched by Vice President Dick Cheney to conduct a secret mission to Niger."
-  Now on third pair of pants of burned and SOILED pants!!

In fact, Wilson never claimed that Cheney sent him on the trip. Wilson wrote in his July 6, 2003, op-ed in The New York Times that the CIA requested he go on the mission "so they could provide a response to questions raised by Cheney regarding allegations that Iraq had attempted to purchase uranium from the African country.”
-  Snow going to same place as Libby – he’s used the flames by now!!

- Terrorism

Snow, also “Stuck on Stupid”, falsely accused former President Bill Clinton of “rejecting bin Laden offer.” Snow used recycled neo con talking points, and already PROVEN discredited claims, that Sudan had offered to hand over Osama bin Laden to the United States in the 1990s, but that the Clinton administration responded, "Nah, don't want to do it."
-  Snow, just take off your pants ok?? First of all, it’s a LIE and secondly, Clinton DID know how to speak his native language, English!! George W. Bush = “Nah”!!

This absurd claim, derived from an August 11, 2002, article on NewsMax (makes FNC appear liberal) that distorted a speech Clinton made in 2002. Indeed, the bipartisan 9-11 Commission found (page 3) "no reliable evidence to support" the claim that Sudan offered bin Laden to the United States.
-  Naked and burning is no way to go Snow!!

- Claimed botched CIA attack on Ayman Al-Zawahiri "was a success"

Snow claimed the January 13th CIA attack in western Pakistan targeting top Al Qaeda official al-Zawahiri "was a success." Snow further claimed the attack "knocked off four to five key Al Qaeda" figures.
-  Have in your way Snow, put on a new pair!!

In fact, the strike “reportedly killed at least 18 civilians, sparking widespread Pakistani condemnation and protests.”  Initially, US officials claimed that, at minimum, some high level Al Qaeda officials were among those killed in the attacks, but this claim was never officially confirmed. A “Financial Times” report subscription required wrote, “Pakistani intelligence official confirmed the identities of alleged Al Qaeda officials were made on the basis of intelligence information and NOT 'facts gathered through DNA tests or any other means.' "
-  There goes another pair Snow!!

- Deemed Gitmo "the most humane prisoner-of-war facility in history"

In a June 15, 2005, column, Snow wrote that the Pentagon's military detention facility at Guantánamo Bay "may be the most humane prisoner-of-war facility in history."
-  It's Disneyland Tony; it's the happiest place on earth!!

YOU HAVE JUST DEPLETED THE WORLD’S SUPPLY OF PANTS SNOW!!
I know this is off topic, but everyone friend and foe here should watch NOW tonight. Journalist Extraordiaire Greg Palast will be on tonight to explain why the fix is already in for the Repugnicans in '08. Like it was in 2000 and 2004. Enjoy!

-  It's Disneyland Tony, it's the happiest place on earth!!

YOU HAVE JUST DEPLETED THE WORLD’S SUPPLY OF PANTS SNOW!!

PEACE!!
The Mexicans bombed Pearl Harbor; O.J. is still looking for the real killer(s); and the search for Jimmy Hoffa continues!!

CALGON, TAKE ME AWAY!!
Okay, I didn't he submit twice this time, but thanks for the extra posts?? I guess??
