Countdown Friday: House of Secrets

Posted: Friday, July 27, 2007 8:54 PM by Countdown
Filed Under:

This Week in ScandalTomorrow morning, Vice President Cheney will undergo surgery to have the battery replaced on his heart defibrillator.  Which means in an exact reversal of last weekend's colonoscopy and invocation of the 25th Amendment:  For a few hours, at least, George W. Bush will actually get to be president.  Our fifth story on the Countdown: Let's hope he uses his "alone time" wisely...because today his administration was again reduced to trying to transform clear reality into foggy myth, with a dedication of language parsing that makes Bill Clinton look like a chronic generalizer.

Drinks in SpaceThe cliches of manned space flight all suddenly have new meaning tonight:  "Flying High"..."The Right Stuff"... And especially "lift-off, we have lift-off."  An independent NASA study suggesting at least twice, American astronauts have been boldly going where no man has gone before - while drunk.

ODDBALL:  A parrot on the Deputy Defense Secretary's Shoulder, and a drive thru store that wasn't really a drive thru store.

Rowling Along:   To our third story on the Countdown, and new revelations about Harry Potter.  Once again, a warning if you are slowly savoring the final book, there are some spoilers ahead.  As author JK Rowling tells Meredith Vieira just what the very end of the book was meant to be, and why she changed it.  And gives us some insight into why the actor who plays the boy wizard in the movies, Daniel Radcliffe, would have said three weeks ago on "The Today Show" that he thought his character might die, but he wasn't certain, even though he had not yet read "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".

Simpsonize Me:   At number two tonight: our nightly round-up of celebrity and entertainment news, Keeping Tabs 20 years after it debuted as a skit on the Tracey Ullman show  17 years after it became a full-length series...finally the Simpsons have made it on the big screen  Opening across the country tonight after what seems like months of wily promotion.  Of course, marketing a movie using corporate tie-ins is nothing new.

WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD:  Bill-O, Glenn-B, and Barry B on the list tonight.

Fully Loaded?:   Lindsay Lohan's new movie "I Know Who Killed Me"  has not been reviewed because no advance screenings were held for critics.  Which means, of course, that however bad or good it might be, the film can't possibly be as watchable as her life.  But in our number one story on the Countdown, we already know who's killing Lohan's career.  That would be her.  As eyewitnesses from the night of her arrest tell TMZ.com that Lohan commandeered the vehicle she used to chase her assistant.  And that she said she couldn't get into trouble... because she's a celebrity.  Well that worked out well.

Thanks for the reminder - time difference, etc.
I kept returning to the site, looking for other comments as well - not just mine, and found nothing new.  So, it caused me to throw out the query - given the political positions of this p.Resident.  I guess there is a bit of paranoia, heh?  <g>
Brenda Deltona FL (Sent Saturday, July 28, 2007 2:11 AM)
I have a question for everyone.. on 9/11 after the plane hit the second WTC our National Emergency Broadcast System Warning wasn't on my TV to alarm us that this country was under attack.. I know not everyone was watching their TVs at home, I know I was and my sister and many of my friends.. I never seen it.. did any of you? Also if this was the case why were the children in that School Bush was at not asked to take cover? A friend had brought this up to me tonight.. I know they started grounding planes but what if those planes were going to attack somewhere else? Some other major city.. Not everyone did have a TV or any other kind of warning.. Why didn't the Sirens go off? Grounding them would not have made any difference would it have? Most large Airports are in Major Cities making them all targets.. GESH!!! Just asking if anyone else had it on their TVs that were watching.. Today the Warning System was on my TV off and on all day.. I finally figured out that if I hit the exit button it would stop.

Great summary of your thoughts and questions - some of which I had not previously thought about. Thanks for that!
One comment on the moderators of this blog.  They are far more lenient than any I have seen on a left leaning website.  Many wouldn't allow even a single post from me.

I - for one - appreciate their tolerance and don’t think they intentionally employ censorship.

Keeping up on this takes effort, especially where emotions can cause a spiraling down of content.

So from me thank you guys and/or gals.
Bonds never broke a rule of the game, at all.  People don;t like him because he's not the nicest guy in the game.  Well, get over it - he'll never be as big a jerk as Ty Cobb was, and HE'S in the Hall.
John, N., Nashville, TN (Sent Saturday, July 28, 2007 8:56 PM)

Thank you!! Outstanding post and I've been saying the same for years!!

KUDOS TO YOU!! As I was born and raised in San Francisco, worked at Candlestick Park, got to know Barry's father Bobby very well, who was a class act (may he rest in peace) and who was so kind to me when I began working at "The Stick" as a 15-year-old teenager.

I am very tired and extremely irritated that  people have convicted Barry Bonds for something he has NEVER tested positive for or admitted to. I become more angry when people use “The Pete Rose Offense” to further their point.  That point is? Non-existent!! It's nice to see someone in Tennessee defending him for the same reasons, the facts!!

Thanks again!!
scott henderson nv (Sent Saturday, July 28, 2007 11:14 PM)

Scott - I agree with you!! Thanks for defending the blog and the editors, as I find them to be most fair and balanced.  I've had posts "declined" and they should have been.  It's not always a good idea to write when you're angry.

Again, I appreciate your comments!!
Brenda & Disgusted-TX -

Regarding "Dear Mr. President", I thought you would find this "interesting"!!

When asked “Should President Bush have met Cindy Sheehan”, former President Bill Clinton responded by stating:

“Yes, you know, I met with the people that I gave the Medal of Honor to, people who — some people who were killed on Black Hawk Down and one of the fathers was very angry at me and I knew it. And he said some really rough things to me and it wasn’t easy but I thought I owed it to him.

His son gave his life in the service of this country and this father served in Vietnam, was a veteran. I thought that he had the right to say to me whatever he wanted to say. There is no greater pain in life than having a child die before you.

There is nothing worse and I had sent his son into harm’s way. And the thing was not managed as it should have been. And he was, as far as I was concerned, he’d earned the right to say whatever he wanted to me. And if he felt better when it was over, then it was a precious little thing I could do is to take the heat coming in.”

In comparison, Adolph Bush’s thoughts on the matter?

“I think it’s also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life…I’ve got a life to live.”

George W. Bush made that statement before peddling off for a bike ride on the ranch with journalists and aides.

Bush defended his decision not to meet with Sheehan stating, “But whether it be here or in Washington or anywhere else, there’s somebody who has got something to say to the president, that’s part of the job, and I think it’s important for me to be thoughtful and sensitive to those who have got something to say.”

‘But,” he added, ‘‘I think it’s also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life.”

Bill Clinton might not have been “perfect”, but he was infinitely better than George W. Bush, the catastrophe that walks like a man.

I don't remember Bill Clinton taking month’s long vacations, either.

PEACE!!
John N., Nashville - I NEVER said Rose went to prison for gambling on baseball and I NEVER said Barry Bonds broke any of baseball's rules. Don't imply it.
Bignardi - Our baseball commissioner, Bud Selig, already knows the story behind Barry Bonds. That's why there is to be NO CELEBRATION by MLB when Bonds breaks Aaron's record. Somethings in the air. It's called playing FAIR & SQUARE ... strongly suggesting that Bonds cheated. Otherwise, why the investigation?
Wayne..It Doesn't matter what political group members of the Armed Services affiliate themselves with as far as they serve THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA all parties included, some pretty goofy ones.I think most of those Goofy ones are in TN.That would be a joke Wayne.
In Viet Nam they were mostly poor black and white Americans who couldn't 2 s the draft much less pay to go to college and not exactly your Republican profile. The guys they are recruiting now by pumping every form of sunshine known to mankind up their asses to get them to join and having lowered the standards that so that common criminals like Scooter Libby,Dickless Cheney,Rover,Dubyass,Mitch Ferret McConnell<who never served can get in well there ya go.I love to see some DI get a hold of some those maggots they couldn't serve donuts and coffee much less any military organization.
Congress is an embarrassment to this Nation for having let these criminals get away with it for so long and allowing so many to be killed and wounded. Can't get the votes to Impeach Pelosi cut all the funds. Can't do that cut out of Congress. If your asses were only half as good as our troops.
I'm not going to include Jack Murtha in that Congressional group  seems like he is the only member who has consistently tried to help the troops though as of late Kerry has got on board and Hagel has been there for awhile but for the most part it has been a do nothing self destruct betrayal of the troops as well as the American public for political posturing.
Stop censoring the Iraq news and lying to us Dubayass!

The Executive Branch and the Congressional Cronies  haven't done shit except get troops killed and wounded then try and justify it and cover it up with ever changing lies, reasons, cover ups, commutes, executive orders and privileges and anything to avoid telling the Truth.(Then have the audacity to call that support the Troops)
It is the Executive Branch Jihad on the Constitution of the United States of America. The Rovinian Cheney Gonzo Dubyass Chapter of al-Liars.
While we are at it here John Dubyass McCain wasn't exactly what you call Mr. Ace pilot flying the friendly skies with all of 25 hrs and cracking up 5 planes along with some questions to his tall tales of torture while captured.Might want to check this by reading up a little by guys like Swede Larson.

Wayne I can assure the Armed Forces of the United States do not belong to the Republican Party nor to the White House.
When our troops serve they could give a rats ass about political parties they are there to defend this Country. In Iraq I don't care what you think,Wayne, the troops know the mission is futile and are just trying to take care of each other to come home alive. That's how Nam was. There has never been a defined goal line or mission in Iraq except make one up when the last one ended up being a lie.

Take Terry's advice,I think I gave it to you and Larry, and Scott one time before.Go volunteer at a VA hospital they need the help. You'd get to hear the stories about the war first hand. Go to some airport when the troops are leaving and see how they look and the families look everyone silently Praying they all get back. Then go and look at the kids eyes when they return and take a look at the 1000 meter stare they have from the ones who have been in combat or survived
IED explosions and see up close and personal how that looks because I do and it is not very kind.CA and some of your other Liberal friends on here know. And then to see the Govt that sent these men there under pretenses
deny them benefits. Yea baby those be your boys denying helping em in da White House.Same little Vitters that love the Whore House of Oil.Wayne that's neither conservative nor liberal. It's just plain cruel and criminal.

Terry Columbia, SC (Sent Saturday, July 28, 2007 6:49 PM)....Nicely Put.
Hello everyone..Steve Turner, you rock. I'm still laughing about your neighbor Louella..which was like 20 topics ago. And J.K. being able to afford to buy Australia..BRILLIANT!

It's true, we need the few irreverant moments to offer some bright spots during these dark times. Thanks to the regulars who keep me informed and keep me thinking.

I feel the need to say that I am sick of Wayne's tired schtick. GET OVER IT MAN. GET A HOBBY. GET A LIFE.
You are really sounding deranged..a handful of liberal Democrats are responsible for prisoner abuses?!! In your twisted world Wayne. The Repugnicants on the list who "Did not serve" still have not served. You have no point Wayne, no matter where you get your lists.

Why do you insist on bothering us with your insanity? I guess you are getting some kind of kick out of spewing your garbage to people who will definitely call you out for what you are: A deranged neocon sychophant (psychophant more like it), who refuses to see what is really happening to America.

I can tell you for a fact Wayne, that many military folks who consider themselves conservatives and vote Republican, are absolutely disgusted with this Administration. I work with these people everyday.

Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, Rush L, Glenn Beck and Bill-O all have websites. Go spew your craziness there, and I promise you, all the participants will agree with everything you have to say!! Don't you think that will be more rewarding for you Wayne?

Please think about it Wayne, and have a nice life Wayne.
Ro and Brenda - there are innumerable questions about 9/11 which have never been answered.  My favorite is how Mohammed Atta's intact passport ended up being immediately recovered when there wasn't much of anything of those buildings that was readily identifiable.  Somehow it left the plane, missed the jet fuel fireball, found an open window and just floated away so it could be found.  Even the black boxes, meant to survive impact, weren't that lucky.

I'm still wondering how those buildings didn't tip over, but collapsed onto their bases.  There are demolition companies who spend months preparing buildings for demolitions like that.  And how exactly did those buildings collapse at free fall speed as though there were no contents or floors inside?

Still wondering when we're going to get the truth.
Pam, the dear mr. president post, from the beginning I knew it had to be Clinton that said that.. I told my husband who was sitting beside me when I read it at the beginning, she's talking about Clinton :)
That man confuses me I have to admit.. :)
Sue, I hear ya.. to many things don't make sense. Alot of things also happened before those planes hit the WTC.. There are people who were eyewitnesses to things like bomb sniffing dogs taken out of the building not long before it happened, the security cameras being shut down the weekend before and many other important issues that were not listened to..
You all may want to see this..
http://www.amics21.com/911/flight175/second.html
I will let you know that I have CNNs Remembering 9/11 video and have went over this many times.. the second plane that hit the WTC had a yellow streak on the tail.. if you have this video.. use your pause and zoom.. it doesn't have UA on the tail...

"In Viet Nam they were mostly poor black and white Americans who couldn't 2 s the draft much less pay to go to college and not exactly your Republican profile."'

"Common Myths Dispelled:

Myth: Common Belief is that most Vietnam veterans were drafted.
Fact: 2/3 of the men who served in Vietnam were volunteers. 2/3 of the men who served in World War II were drafted. Approximately 70% of those killed in Vietnam were volunteers.

Myth: Common belief is that a disproportionate number of blacks were killed in the Vietnam War.
Fact: 86% of the men who died in Vietnam were Caucasians, 12.5% were black, 1.2% were other races. Sociologists Charles C. Moskos and John Sibley Butler, in their recently published book "All That We Can Be," said they analyzed the claim that blacks were used like cannon fodder during Vietnam "and can report definitely that this charge is untrue. Black fatalities amounted to 12 percent of all Americans killed in Southeast Asia - a figure proportional to the number of blacks in the U.S. population at the time and slightly lower than the proportion of blacks in the Army at the close of the war."

Myth: Common belief is that the war was fought largely by the poor and uneducated.
Fact: Servicemen who went to Vietnam from well-to-do areas had a slightly elevated risk of dying because they were more likely to be pilots or infantry officers. Vietnam Veterans were the best educated forces our nation had ever sent into combat. 79% had a high school education or better.

BA
Thinks all Republicans are wealthy and that the inequalities of the old time Democrat Party carried on throughout the War.
When the Draft was in force even people like Byrd might have been forced to serve no matter how much he hated Black folks.
Its also assumed that because the Democrats set up the meme that it was Nixon's War that every Republican supported it.
Not everyone is physically fit for service, and despite the myths that emerged from WW2 the Military has a long list of what might appear to be minor problems which disquallify one for service. Howard Dean's back problem for example.

For every soldier in the field there are a about 16 non combat positions, these days medical waivers for such positions are not uncommon.

And the fact remains that the Nard's propaganda list is deliberately misleading and does not reflect the realities of military service by party, not even among elected officials.

The List of who served found at the Veterans Administration shows that more Republicans of the 108th Congress served than Democrats.

Once again as of 2003 the Military was 60% Republican compared to 13% Democrat with Liberals barely showing up at all.

Its also notable that most atrocity claims promoted by people like BA come from Deserters trying to justify their running out on their obligations.
Pam Bignardi

Although i'm not a huge baseball fan i do like the game, and i'm impressed with your knowledge of it.

Thank's that was another thing i was woundering about, was the length of the field's thank's for posting them. Now that I know that, we can't messure how far over the fence each of Babes HR's went. Like you said what is fair, one can claim that there's better knowledge to apply to HR hitting, pitcher's today may or may not be harder to hit for some of the player's mentioned, today there's better training, maybe the Bat's the Ball's are different from year to year. As i stated i don't take anything away at all from the other player's & was also a fan of Hank Aaron. What i do know is that when i was a young boy in the 60's Babe was who most talked of so i'm partial to him. I would still like to know if possible how many games each played. Not that it would matter since what it comes down to for me are my boyhood memories.

It would be great if there was a way found to insure that steriod's aren't being used in any sport.

Don Oubre of Paulina Louisiana - Here are the games played.

Aaron - 3298
Ruth - 2503
Mays - 2992
Robinson - 2808
Griffey Jr. - 2331
Sosa - 2327
Bonds - 2950
"For those of you who missed the excellent NOW (PBS Series) presentation on voter caging, it is available here:

http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/330/video.html
"
Started to watch this and will later on when time permits.
First thing I noticed was the supposed Journalist presenting the story. I recognized him as having presented an interview with a supposed Iraqi detainee who later on was exposed as a fraud.
I've seen that journalist before, he's devoted most if not all of his work to one sided attacks on the Administration and the US Military.

And perhaps you should be reminded that the Democrats have in the past attempted to block thousands of ballots from US servicemen serving overseas because they knew most Active Duty US military vote republican. That is of course because Democrats are much less likely to serve in a volunteer military. Military Political afilliation ,60% Republican 20% Independent 13% Democrat as of 2003.
"Canvassing boards in Florida's 67 counties approved 2,206 of the ballots and rejected 1,420 (39 percent) of them, according to an Associated Press survey. Democrats reportedly raised objections to ballots -- which traditionally favor Republicans -- due to problems with witness and voter signatures and missing postmarks.

Lieberman said he was not aware of a Democratic statewide strategy to protest overseas absentee ballots. The Connecticut senator was questioned about a letter from a Democratic Tallahassee lawyer that was said to explain how to knock out overseas military ballots from the counting process.

Lieberman said the letter simply detailed Florida law regarding overseas ballots and wasn't intended to be focused on military personnel.

"
Al-Gore conceding defeat may have prevented the plot being brought fully into the light.

With so few Democrats and even fewer Liberal Democrats being willing to serve in todays military, since theres no draft hanging over their head, no wonder the Democrats wanted to disallow thousands of ballots cast by our military serving overseas.

as of 2003 military afilliations were 60% Republican, 20% Independent, and a pitiful 13% Democrat with Liberal Democrats being as rare as hen's teeth (or a sober Kennedy).

I agree!! I also love Hank Aaron and think he is a class act; I also have researched a lot on Babe Ruth.  I will say that if the Babe were playing today, he would not be a role model for our children.

His late night drinking and carousing caused him to miss many practices.  He was also insubordinate on multiple occasions.  These are not qualities I would want my children to learn from a "role model".  Babe was a great player, but much of what he did was never exposed because he was brilliant with the media and the media, in turn, loved him.  I take NOTHING away from Babe Ruth; however, I counter posts like Paul's because I DO like to compare apples to apples.  What Babe did personally is none of my business, what Babe did on the field, or how he achieved his stats, is.  I love the game and I do like to play "fair and square".

It's OK it just looks different to you. It looks fine to all of us.Time for a medication adjustment.Your bubba, Cheney would do well by getting some for his paranoia. They should have sent some jolts to his head while he was getting a tune up.
Talk to your doctor about it.Lets hope you have some of the fine health care the Republican Party and White House supports so you can get the help before you suffer much longer.I know you don't have the same plan they do. Course come to think of it they should use the psych benefits on theirs because like you they are ALL pretty insane aren't they Wayne?
Mythstake One You are so fare out of touch with reality.
Biggest mythstake of ALL is the Lying ASS Bastards you Support in the Executive Dubyass Jihad al Liar Branch of this Govt ,who justify killing American troops and wounding under ever continuing lies and false missions. That coupled with the chicken shit Congressional al-Liar Republican turd blossums like Mitch McConnell that lock up votes to cover up their atrocities. You do not get it.
They're killing more troops by this illegal war then then the ever changing missions, names for Iraqis who don't want us there now called al-Quida,until last October known as insurgents,by those who have been there known as Iraqis who's house they went to the day before.
Dude you are talking about.Take your John Birch,NAZI,skinhead, racist books and some nude pictures of,Karl Rover,Condi Grits, and that Bitch One Eyed Annie, and go out to the out house and entertain yourself.Call that Critter called the Cheatin Vitter if you need help.I'm sure he Ted Haggard or Mark Foley will be willing to lend a helping HAND.
Those little stats on Nam are so far out of whack I can only assume they were compiled by the same guys who counted the vote in the last election and in 2000.
As far as service to this Country little boy I nor, anyone on here owes you any explanation.I will tell you not a wise idea to discredit folks family members service.I can assure you you ours is long and distinguished going back to the war that founded this Country as well as a lot of the other people you slap names like liberal on.Personally I could give a shit what you read you still have the IQ of about 2.
You just don't get it do you sicko.I understand I have seen folks like you before. They could give you a nickel and then say they give you a dime for it and you would argue because the dime was smaller.
You can puff theories and stats out your ass like Mount St. Helen's or Fuji erupting and you are just going to blind yourself more with more smoke to blind the light.
Do what Terry from Columbia,SC said.Go volunteer for one of those non-combat jobs you mentioned.

And for the record Wayne I'm not a liberal.I am a Citizen of the United States of America and believe in its Constitution and kept my oath.

I agree..... Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Joe Dimagio etc, all had extensive issues that fail in comparrison to celebritys today, but unlike today, the press was more conservative, and less liberal. Publishers had different standards . If Pete Rose , and Barry Bonds had played, say in the 30's -50's, none of there issues would likely have been made accessible to the public attention.
OK this is a kinder gentler post for Wayne:Sort of:

Why not, it beats heck out of the "Bush had tillman killed because he read Noam Chumpsky's book" conspiracy theories flying fast and loose at the newshole.

And Bob Kerry is still a disgraced murderer of 21 Vietnamese Civilians who admitting accepting a bronze star under false pretenses as part of his cover up.
John Kerry is till "Hanoi John" and the Communist have thanked him and his VVAW buddies profusely for their aid in extending the war and insuring a Communist Victory.
Point being that the Nard's/ Steven Fowle list is old school propaganda. Take a smidgeon of information then carefully set the conditions to produce what appears reasonable to those who don't take the time to check out the available source materials.
The unequal numbers are an immediate giveaway, as is the fact that only supposedly Conservative "Pundits" are listed. As if anyone gives a crap whether a talking head ever served or not. Olby didn't serve and you folks hang on his every word as if he were General Patton.
A quick check of the Veteran's Administration list of those who served squashes Nard's attempt to give the impression that democrats are more willing to serve, which both the Veteran's Administration and the Army Times Polls have already proven to be a lie.

Republicans 60%, Independents 20%, democrats a pitiful 13% with Liberal Democrats rare as hen's teeth.

Well according to reports the surge is having some remarkable sucesses and US casualties are down since it went into action.
Major al-Qui'da leaders have been brought to justice and some are spilling the beans.
Taliban are POed at al-Qu'ida and at least some are talking truce.
Pakistan's government and military are likely to be more open to both allowing and assisting in a full scale incusion into the Tribal region. Always best to get co-operation from a friendly nuclear power before sending in troops you know.

" As Ramblin' Jack said, it's Connections.."

Who gives a crap what Rambling Jack has to say, why not quote Cheech and Chong while you are at it.
" Oh! of course I forgot; you're disabled and not 'fit for duty'."
I'd suggest that you hypocrites that have full use of your hands get your @$$ down to the recruiting station and sign up if you intend to dis anyone who has a handicap. Real mature of you. Obviously you are a case of arrested development.
To Disgusted, NY: "Friend. Goooood!"

Yeah, I have *definitely* been spending too much time at the creature-features.  ;D
"Those little stats on Nam are so far out of whack I can only assume they were compiled by the same guys who counted the vote in the last election and in 2000.
"
BA you are such a tool, The stats come from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, you may not have heard of them.
"As far as service to this Country little boy I nor, anyone on here owes you any explanation."
When you question other people's sevice yours will be questioned as well, your knowledge of all things military seems to come exclusively from watching straight to video war movies and tall tales told to you by your fellow winos.

"I will tell you not a wise idea to discredit folks family members service. I can assure you you ours is long and distinguished going back to the war that founded this Country as well as a lot of the other people you slap names like liberal on"

I couldn't care less about whether you even have a family or were found under a rock.
My Family were among the first White Settlers on this Continent and my Cherokee and other Indian Forbears were here to greet them. The Catawba Confederacy and the Constitution based on it was the prototype of the US Constitution. So catch up or get out of my country latecomer.

Why would anyone only post on blogsites where everyone agreed with them?
You folks lead a sheltered life.

You remind me of those folks that dress up like hippies and try to recreate the sixties with only old movies and books to go by.
I'd venture to guess that most of you wouldn't know how to change a sparkplug and would faint if you broke a nail. Try peeling someone else's dead flesh and fused clothing off your hands and watching your own skin come with it, then tell me what you would sacrifice to save a life.
I've lead a more interesting life than I would have asked for but I've learned a few things you cyphers will never get from books and blogs sites. At great cost , but no one lives for ever and few go whole to their grave. What doesn't kill you may not always make you stronger but it makes you appreciate every experiance even the unpleasant ones. Worst you people face is boredom. So now that you folks have made demands lets see you go out there and show us that you have some claim to the moral high ground, those of you that can't fight go out there and volunteer at the VA Hospitals mentioned. I've spent over ten years caring for invalids 24/7 with as little as two hours sleep in 24 for weeks on end, thats the main reason I post at just about any hour of the day or night.
When one of you great humanitarians can say the same then you might have a leg to stand on.
Now you hypocrites get out there and volunteer for service at the VA, no ones stopping you and since you find it so easy to dis someone else because they lost much of the use of their hands we can assume that you are in good physical condition.
Prove to everyone that Liberals aren't the raving two faced pansys they appear to be and their words indicate that they are.

PS
as of 2003 Political affiliation of Active Duty US Military 60% republican, 20% Independent, and a pitifully few 13% Democrats with Liberal Democrats as scarce as hen's teeth.
There are probably more Phony Veterans like Micah Wright and Jessie McBeth on the net than there are real Democrat Veterans.
One or two of those that post here may be the McCoy but I'll assume that all Liberals claiming that they have served are stone liars until they can prove otherwise. The odds are to much against them being truthful.
One more little reminder for those who continue to sleep through class: Whether you claim to be a doctor, lawyer, soldier, college professor, veteran of the Boer War, disabled, superpowered or a three-legged canasta player -- for all anyone REALLY knows about you, you could just as easily be just another of the legion of pimply-faced 14-year-olds with nothing better to do all summer than pick fights in newsgroups. Unless you are going to give away too much verifiable personal information about yourself to an indefinite number of strangers -- always a bad idea, that -- you might want to stick to presenting cogent argument on behalf of your opinions. Sourced facts are nice too.

Striking an attitude here that would require having a good dental package if you tried it in your neighborhood tavern merits all the derision and scorn you receive. The difference here will be that you keep your teeth, but your post can be considered to have lost any it might have had.

While on the subject of sacrifice to save others think on this.
"Obama says preventing genocide isn't a good enough reason to stay in Iraq.
''By that argument you would have 300,000 troops in the Congo right now - where millions have been slaughtered as a consequence of ethnic strife - which we haven't done,'' he told the Associated Press. ''We would be deploying unilaterally and occupying the Sudan, which we haven't done. Those of us who care about Darfur don't think it would be a good idea.'' "

http://www.sltrib.com/opinion/ci_6473762

The first truly International Humanitarian expedition was a French led expedition which forced the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire to meet their obligation to stop the Genocide of Marionite Christians by the Muslim Druze.

The Atrocities of Islamic Terrorists have actually resulted in the Marionites and Druze putting aside centuries of strife to work together to try to free Lebanon of al-Qu'ida inspired Terrorists and Syrian backed terrorist that have murdered so many Lebanese leaders in recent years.

Coalitions of African Troops have begun fighting al-Qu'ida and one day the UN will get off its butt and start doing something besides riding around in blue landrovers trying to look tough.

Clinton sat on his hands while 800,000 Rwandans were butchered. Not that US troops could have stopped the slaughter by themselves, but Clinton didn't raise a hand to save any of them even when all it would have taken was to transport them to protected areas.
The Belgians wouldn't even move to save their own peacekeepers taken prisoner and tortured to death.

Obama is a child.

Just treat your handicap and obvious disability the same one that isn't being treated by the schizoid paranoid Executive al-Lair Branch of Jihad on the Truth has may be impossible. There is no cure but the Truth.Like All the cowards they have always been they run and their friends run from it.I really don't care if you have a disability the one you have is untreatable ass.We know what your disability is Wayne
the problem you don't.
Take your medication before you disgrace the mental health system. They are doing the best they can which is far more than this Administration has done for anyone.
One more time I don't give a shit if you are disabled there are a lot more men who have served this country with honor and dignity that have far worse problems than you have.
Get a new hobby Richard Cranium.Your only disability is a closed mind, habitual lying, impotence,
support of criminals that call themselves leaders and decider's.Get over it!

Right on target K; as with ballplayers, there is much more reporting on the behavior, etc. of politicians today.  For example, today, "we" would have known FDR was in a wheel chair while president, etc.  Don't misunderstand me, the man was wonderful and a great president; however, because of the "times", he was able to keep this from Americans and the world.

PEACE!!
Bonds never broke a rule of the game, at all.  People don;t like him because he's not the nicest guy in the game.  Well, get over it - he'll never be as big a jerk as Ty Cobb was, and HE'S in the Hall.

Thanks for that, Pam. I am also one who doesn't believe, or want to believe that Barry is 'guilty' of steroid use - -

I resist this a bit... but, I will write it anyway, at the risk of sharing more than I'd like - -
I went to college with Barry's Dad, Bobby Bonds, and his Aunt Rosie Bonds, they were both great athletes! Bobby really loved football, and I thought that would be the sport he would get involved with, he was good at both sports.  Rosie was a 'gold-medalist' in the Olympics.  Both Bobby and Rosie were very gentle, caring people.  Both had a quiet kind of humility, and I had a good deal of admiration for them.
I cannot fathom Barry being anything less - it occurs to me, if he is not so friendly, and carefree as his father and his aunt - maybe it has something to do with all the turmoil in his life.  I imagine the death of his father hit him very hard, it did me.

Just a bit of FYI - <g>

Thank's for going to the trouble to post those number's for me. Also all the stats you posted earlier i'll enjoy playing with them.
Wonder how many of those Sunnis are going to turn on our men. The old win the hearts minds. This shit failed in Nam and will fail again.Hell in Nam at one point they were giving em money.

B.A. Buddusky (Sent Saturday, July 28, 2007 10:14 PM)

B.A., by 'money' are you referring to our Gov't? Or, the military on the ground...
Because, I watched with a kind of shock, as some of our military in Iraq were doling out $20 bills like it was candy, to the Iraq's.  I didn't make notes of it - I would guess it was about 6 mos. to a year into the 'conflict.'  Did anyone else see this?  I called my Senator(s) and asked what the H3ll is going on? Isn't that money supposed to go toward the 'war' effort?  And... then, they reported there was millions of dollars not accounted for - is this why?  They didn't want Americans to know they were giving out OUR currency, like candy?
It brought to my mind, movies which I had watched, where the soldiers were giving out candy to the children of the war-torn country, they invaded.  Like that is supposed to make them feel alright about the killings going on. The 'saviors' were here, now!  At the time, I was kind of dumbed down, thinking, the U.S. really does make a difference in the lives of those who have been bombed out of their homes, lost their families, and basically lived on the streets of 'anywhere' war zone.  Damn 'propaganda', anyway! War really is hell! Not, some fantasy television movie!
I did agree with World War II because I understood it. I understood that we really had been attacked by the 'enemy' at the time.  I do NOT understand this war - conflict, 'civil' war - whatever it is, in Iraq!

Hell aside from this blog i'm fairly private, but that doesn't stop my neighbor's from "talking about" how private i am, i can only wonder what they know about me that i don't know about myself LOL!!

Pam i know you pretty well and know you were only making comparison's in your post and i didn't take it any other way. This was my first time discussing baseball on the blog, & thank Paul for the stats, that caught my attention. After i read the stats Paul put up i was wondering about the length of the fields. Then WOW Pam, you post the field length's that was my second experience with ESP this week.

Thank you all for the discussion i really enjoyed it and learned quite alot.

Your hand problem doesn't seem to keep you from typing and posting on here al-Liar or are lying about the hands being used to take care of those invalids.
Telling tall tales about your great white settlers screwing the Indians who said hey Tom,hey James, hey Paine, hey Mo lets tell these guys how to write a Constitution.
Dubyass and his pals have still lied this country into a War that killed and wounded that 100,000's of people and he pisses on Our Constitution by violating it constantly.

Your major disability is that you have a yellow stripe up your back that goes right to the bone.
Besides which you have the mind of a six year old and probably never left the house, like a spayed cat.
Your knowledge of the world outside comes from Liberalista blogs and dogeared paper backs with the pages stuck together by the bodily fluids of previous owners.
One thing is for certain when you do go out you'd best not stray far from your keeper, no doubt you wear one of those harnesses with a leash so your keeper can prevent you from wandering into traffic.

The level of paranoid delusion, urban mythology, and just plain old funk in this blog is much like one would expect in a rest home for burnouts.
Get a clue folks. Apocalypse Now was not history, it was a rehash of a fictional short story about the 19th century Ivory Trade.
You've grown up on exagerations and tall tales, and built on them in order to feel better about your own shortcomings.

The "Anywhere but Iraq" mantra began solely due to a Democrat power grab that failed to steal the 04 election despite George Soros spending millions to finance bloggers and other propaganda machinery.
John Kerry was a lying scumbag 40 years ago and remained one.
Since coming here I've seen a poster who claimed to have served attribute the Communist victory to the "Iron Will" of Ho Chi Min though anyone alive in the sixties would have known Uncle Ho died in the late 60's about five years before the Communist Invasion so his "Iron Will was a bit rusty at best.

The Communists freely admit that the anti-War movement and traitors like John Kerry both lengthened the war causing at least 20,000 US casualties and insured a Communist victory.
Another poster implying service said the ARVN fought as Viet Cong at night, though the ARVN held out for two years with no US Combat assistance and were only over run after the Democrat Congress betrayed them by blocking deployment of US Airpower which the SEATO treaty obliged in event of Invasion by the NVA and its shiny new Soviet Tanks.

We have Olby Wan Keithnobi urging invasion of a nation which has Nuclear weapons. By Olby's own standards that makes him a Chickenhawk, and a rather stupid one at that.

The Leftards here can't grasp the simple fact that al-Qu'ida in Iraq is (now follow closely) al-Quida-In-Iraq.
Since numerous denisons of this blog have stated that they will ignore any other "news" source outside of the Olbydrome they have no idea what is happening in the real world. They go into a tizzy if a hastily scrawled poster doesn't look like its spelled correctly, missing the lame@$$ed joke entirely, and have ignored every sucessful action our military has accomplished during the surge. To acknowledge any sucess by our troops might encourage them, and they simply can't allow that.

You people have marginalyzed yourself to an extent that is astounding. What a bunch of androids.
You could care less if the US suffered another major attack if in exchange you got federally mandated gay marriage in every state, and access to all the dead babies you want for experiments.
Some years back two premies survived a late term abortion and ended up as disembodied heads keep alive while various viruses were injected into their brains. The horror of such an inhuman experiment defies anything from the Mad scientist movies of old.
The "Slippery Slope" is no myth. Just as Hitler's Euthanasia program grew ever larger and is carried on today in several European countries, the harvesting of innocent human life for obscene experiments is but a stroke of the pen away.

The journalist inquestion has never been succesfully sued for libel either here or in Great Britain where libel is easier to prove.
The type of "voter fraud" you and Karl Rove like to point to doesn't exist. If Mickey Mouse gets registered by an over eager registrar Mickey Mouse doesn't shopw up to vote...no fraud. If a voter moves and re-registers in their new district they do not go back to their old district to vote again. This is according to the federal election commission.
"B.A. thinks all Republicans are wealthy" In W's own words his constituents are "haves and have mores".
If you are not wealthy and still a republican ther is one word to describe you ....stupid.
If you are on disability as you claim and you still vote Republican you do not know what side your bread is buttered on. BTW for a self proclaimed christian you do seem to like blood gore guts and war an awful lot. Who would Jesus bomb?
Just an observation:

There are many more people who'd attend the event on September 15 if Mumia Abu-Jamal wasn't included in the laundry list.

The fact is he killed a cop, and ever since has been using his considerable skills to manipulate well-meaning people into believing he is some sort of victim.

(And don't try to label me because I'm a dyed in the wool liberal, and even I can see the reality of what's going on there).

I don't want to be included in a protest that makes it seem as if I am supporting Abu-Jamal.
Pam count me among Barry Bond's detractors. It's not just the steroiod use. In my view Barry Bonds is the epitome of what's wrong with todays players. He's the quintessential "clubhouse lawyer" won't share a room on the road or ride the team bus. i know we agree on most everything else but in my view 755 still stands and 61 is STILL the single season HR record.
Bignardi - San Fran's AT&T Park has dimensions suitable for Barroid Bond's home run race. It's just 309' down the right field line, although the wall is 25' high. A high fly ball would easily carry over the wall, unless the wind is blowing in. It's 339' down the left field line. Suffice to say the park was built for Barroid, generally a pull hitter. Although other teams have the same advantage, particularly lefties, we're talking all-time HR's, not San Fran's won-lost record.

While I generally respect your opinion and uncanny knowledge of the game, I do wish you could "read between the lines" concerning Barroid.

While I realize there is no proof "made public" about his steroid use, I believe him to be guilty.
An educated guess and My opinion. If he should hit #755 against the Dodgers in LA (near your home), the boos will be deafening.

Funny, in Great American Ballpark here in Cincinnati, they put a gag order out against anyone using the word steroid against Barroid. Free speech violation? Go figure.
Baseball:

If one has ever stopped by the Baseball Hall of Fame and held a baseball used during the times of the Babe they would see that the ball they used was as soft as a softball. Given that and the 2nd rate wooden bats used then versus a baseball today and the advancement of the bats today, no modern day player had the power that the Babe had regardless of fence length at the time. Pitchers in Babe's era were just as good and in some ways better then pitchers today.

Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame, period.

Politics:

George Bush and Cheney need to be impeached.

Paul Gardner, Cincinnati Ohio (Sent Monday, July 30, 2007 10:12 AM)

Now that's better!! As you stated "you personally believe he is guilty".  I can accept that; however, I cannot accept people who state "he is guilty", "he is a cheater", etc.

Also, you never answered my question about Candlestick.  Many many sports experts have gone on record stating Willie Mays would have hit between 800-900 home runs had he played anywhere else.  Barry played there for seven seasons and I spent years freezing my you know what off!!

They gave fans buttons that stayed until the game went into extra innings!! I have plenty of them!!

Bill-Rochester -

I also hear where you are coming from.  My issues deal directly with those who have stated things they cannot prove nor have no personal knowledge of.  I do believe in "Due Process".  You KNOW how much I respect you and I hear where you are coming from friend!! I have gone on record stating I have my doubts; however, based on past records, conditions, etc. many stats can be questioned.  I do have my doubts though!!

PEACE!!

Thank you for sharing that!! I do NOT want to believe it either and until it is proven, I will not.  Also, I LOVED Bobby Bonds, as he would always call me down to talk to him, give me an autograph, etc.  I have more autographs from him than any other.  Willie Mays and Willie McCovey I have also, but Bobby was THE CLASS ACT!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Personally i hadn't heard about this guy you are speaking about. This isn't about individuals is it?
I'm not going to label you. I just don't see where that is backing him in any way. This has to do with us as a country and believing that we are being shasted. About lies from the government over a war. I'm sorry I just don't understand this.. Are you attending the Sept 11th Demonstration in NY at Ground Zero? Just asking, if you can't do one maybe you might want to consider another...
debbie,nyc (Sent Monday, July 30, 2007 9:42 AM)
Since I didn't know who you were speaking about I did go read up on him..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumia_Abu-Jamal
My question is, if he is still in prison... how can he march on the September 15th?
Originally sentenced to death, Abu-Jamal's sentence, but not his conviction, was overturned in December 2001 by Judge William H. Yohn, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Both the prosecution and the defense have appealed Yohn's ruling. Abu-Jamal is now serving life in prison at State Correctional Institution - Greene (Commonly SCI-Greene) near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
"The Leftards here can't grasp the simple fact that al-Qu'ida in Iraq is (now follow closely) al-Quida-In-Iraq."

Wayne, I'm a "RIGHTARD" and I grasp the simple fact that al Quida in Iraq is a name that our administration GAVE to a group of folks in Iraq.  In June 2004, Donald Rumsfeld himself said in a Pentagon briefing that Zarqawi (you know that leader of al Qaeda in Iraq) “may very well not have sworn allegiance to [bin Laden]." “Maybe he disagrees with him on something, maybe because he wants to be ‘The Man’ himself and maybe for a reason that’s not known to me.” Rumsfeld added that, “someone could legitimately say he’s not Al Qaeda.”  In September 2006, it was reported that Zarqawi had "rebuffed" attempts by bin Laden to recruit him.  He repeated this in October and said that there was no real information that Zarqawi had ever "pledged allegiance" to bin Laden or that he was even involved with al Qaeda.  Miraculously, about two weeks later, Zarqawi "pledged his allegiance" to bin Laden.

You really do need to read and listen to something besides propaganda and scare-news.  You're being had, Wayne.  BTW, you do know that there are "al Qaeda in America," right?  They've been here all along.  Are you going to go blow up Baltimore to get to them?  Maybe Houston or Chattanooga.  We are not fighting the people who attacked us on 9/11 in Iraq.
Bill, Rochester - you've made an astute observation regarding Wayne's obsession with all things war-like and further, his deluded perception that democrats and liberals are responsible for all of our national failures over say the last 50-100 years.

I made the statement quite awhile back that Ho Chi Minh was a powerful political lightening rod and national icon in Vietnam that not only spear-headed the overthrow of the French after 100 years of domination, but even past his death in 1969 continued to inspire the forces of the North well beyond our departure beginning in 1973 and finalized in 1975.

For better or worse, Uncle Ho's position as a singular historical figure in Vietnam remains firmly in place today.  We had been there for well over 10 years, but Wayne actually blames the Democratic congress for losing the war via the refusal to continue funding that disaster & our 'pre-mature' pull-out (apparently that made the Democrats communist sympathizers in Wayne's world - 58,000 American dead and maybe a million Vietnamese were not enough).  So much for good vs. evil in a black and white world.

He has a virulent hatred for all things non-Republican and that surely shapes his agenda & colors his entire political and cultural worldview  - this extends to politics, religion, and any other topic under discussion.  With such a predictable and jaundiced view, who could expect to be taken seriously?? His accusations seem to be escalating lately.....
