Why the guy up there...

give the guy down here $2,300?

The list of the Fred Thompson's donors is out...among the more notable donors:

Peyton W. Manning, quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts gave $2300.

Douglas J. Feith, former Defense Department official and now teaching at Georgetown University, gave $2300.

Timothy Ryan, an executive at JP Morgan Chase, who withdrew a Bush nomination to the Treasury Dept citing "personal reasons," gave $2300.

Richard A. Wolf, the producer of NBC's "Law and Order," contributed $2300.

George J. Terwilliger, an attorney and one of the leaders of George W. Bush's legal team during the Florida election recount, gave $2300.

Call it a conspiracy theory, but I've heard the new Chinese Chryslers are gonna cost $2300.  Coincidence?  Or queasy plot, percolating in Indiana and Tennessee? The cars are reported to be available soon at Dan Quayle Chinese Chrysler of Indianapolis.
As disappointing as it is to see Peyton Manning back someone like Fred Thompson, this is America after all and everyone is free to make their own choices.

I don't find this revelation as stunning as when Peyton's coach, Tony Dungy, accepted an award from a group affiliated with "Dr." James Dobson and his focus on the family crew of bigots and homophobes. Talk about disappointment! I knew Tony Dungy considered himself to be a Christian, but I didn't realize he was okay with aligning himself with that ilk.

Lot's of disheartened Gay and (now liberal too) Colts fans out there..
So.......Why DID the "guy up there" give the "guy down there" $2300? Any explanation forthcoming? (not that I really care.....)
That's Peyton Manning?  Are you sure you have the right picture there?

Anyway, let them waste their money-it's theirs.

I'm not of the mind to contribute ANY money to ANY candidate or political party.  I know how to think for myself, and with all of the crap they send in the mail-it seems as though they wipe out an entire forest every election season.  I won't even get into the phone calls.

They ALL are blind when it comes to my 'NO SOLICITING' sign on my front door (particularly Shirley Horton's folks that write MY name on their propoganda sheets and leave at my door).  They are disgusting when it comes to billboards, 5 signs for one person on the side of the road, and the stupid signs in peoples yards-THANKS MY HOA!:(

From the last fundraising numbers I didn't realize anyone still gave to republican candidates.
Jamie, where's CV?  I'm assuming that it's a military term.
Celebrities who back democrats like to talk a lot. Celebrities who back republicans keep their mouths shut, which is how I like it. I don't care what Susan Sarandon thinks about politics because she's an actress. I don't care what Peyton Manning thinks about politics because he's a football player. But I will turn on the TV to watch both of them. I appreciate that Peyton Manning doesn't bother me with his political thoughts. And I wish Susan Sarandon, and all her friends, wwould shut their mouths.
Just one more reason not to like Peyton Manning.  I didn't like him much before - he's arrogant, much like Thompson.  He might as well flush that money down the toilet.  The republicans are not going to win the White House.
Son of a .......days like this, I'm truly ashamed of where I live...

*(&^%$#@?!
Jason- If republicans like you hate the hollywood elite so much why do you keep supporting them for president?  Why does Fred Thompson have more credibility to you than Susan Sarandon?  Oh yeah, I almost forgot HE was a lobbiest.
Hmmm. Was Robert A. Wolf's contribution to Thompson a subtle way of saying, 'We're writing your character out of the show?"
Nevermind. I see now where Freddy decided to leave on his own. (That's what I get for watching other channels . . . )  ;D
Is this some new form of Herpes Spread buy Murdicks and Rovinian Republican greed creed.
After all Dubya was holding hands with the Arab guy the other day.
I could give a rats ass about Peyton Manning or Freddy T.,or some of these other guys.I would pay $5.00 to see a couple of moose in heat chase em and Rover through the Colts stadium.
'Jamie, where's CV?  I'm assuming that it's a military term.

Nah, just Chula Vista, CA.  I get lazy when typing it out anymore.:)  However, if you want acronmys-I've got acronyms.:)

Son of a .......days like this, I'm truly ashamed of where I live...

Ah don't be-he's from Louisiana.

Now that Tony Stewart fella, well, the folks in Indiana ought to flog him for his whining and complaining after WINNING the freakin' Brickyard the other day.  Wanker.  Oh yeah, and the verbal 'BS' at the end of his non-stop complaining post race interview-well-someone just needs to flick him HARD between the eyes.  He really impressed my boys with the saying on national tv.

Okay, I feel better now.
LOL Let em waste their money - that's why these buttwipe millionaires got nice tax breaks from BushCo in the first place - so they could donate to Repugnikants.  The Pugs are going down.
My dear Jamie (6:52 pm post), don't EVEN get me started on NASCAR, racing, the Indy 500, etc.! I find it such a revolting development that the first thing most people ask me when they learn I live in Indy is about car racing. GRRRR..... Every once in awhile, I get the Dan Quayle stuff, too. GRRR....

There is some hope, though. Ball State University is renaming its communication building for its most famous alumni - David Letterman!
Hey Sue, West Allis,

This was on First Read:
The AP: "Two Concordia University professors are planning an unusual bipartisan campaign to unseat U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner. Political scientist Jeff Walz, 40, plans to run against the longtime Republican congressman as a Democrat. Historian James Burkee, 39, will run as a Republican. The two plan to campaign together and combine their promotional efforts.  The two have worked together in recent years as speakers and commentators. They said their goal for the campaign is to show what elections should look like."

What do you think?
We don't listen to Tony Stewart!  He's a big cry baby,  he even cries when his ice cream is cold!
Gen. Tommy Franks, according to Plan of Attack, says of Douglas Feith: "I have to deal with the fucking stupidest guy on the face of the earth almost every day."
Hey Jason Aslinger,

Just a footballer, and just an actress... so shut up ?   Well what do you do for a living ? And everyone else for that matter.  The fact that you pay taxes and live in you country QUALIFIES everyone to have an opinion and express it.
God, Jim Sensenbrenner has got to be one one the most annoying individuals on the planet!  A lockstep neocon with a nasal, irritating voice that rivals Truman Capote's.   I would love to see that clown gone.  Where do I send my check to support Drs. Walz and Burkee?
My apologies Krista, because the first thing I think I ever posted to you was about my sister living in Indy and the fact that she and my BIL work in racing.:)  That's why they left our beautiful home state of CA.

I must admit that I don't get the chance to watch Countdown much these days-mostly because of my niece and nephew being here-but I wish that Keith Olbermann, being the sports minded guy that he is, would do a highlights show of all of the whining, cryng, sniveling millionaire sports people.  Just little snippets here and there.

I'd still like to flick Stewart between his whiny butt eyes.  Still whining-after WINNING!
1.  I think the campaign against sensenbrenner is awesome.
2.  Doug Feith truly must be one of the most incompetent and arrogant people on the planet (a dangerous combination).  How a chickenhawk like him became #3 at defense I'll never know.
3.  Actors, athletes, etc. should be able to speak out if they want to, just like anyone else.  They aren't monkeys that are supposed to just sing and dance for us.  If you don't want to support their ways of being, don't support the things they are in!  If they're willing to risk criticism for speaking out, let them do it.  If you have a problem, criticize what they say, but don't just criticize them for saying it.  Our country was founded upon the vigorous exchange of ideas.  I don't like Peyton anyhow (I'm a Bears fan) and I surely don't like where he is donating his money, but he can donate wherever the heck he wants and say whatever he wants, as long as it isn't hate speech, and the same goes for liberal celebrities as well.  Why does it bother us so much to hear opinions different from our own?  It only makes us more knowledgeable of each other and better off as a people.
Krista

Jamie's right he is from Louisiana & that does not look like the right picture. I'm not a fan of Peyton, but i was a fan of his father Archie. We may not like the idea of him giving money to Thompson, but Peyton & his brother Eli donated money, their time & flew in on a 737 full of supplies to Louisiana after Katrina. So he also does good thing's with his money.

No need to be ashamed
Good morning, Jamie. No need for the apology in your 12:08 am post! I guess I just kind of have a knee-jerk reaction in the realization that my state doesn't have a whole lot to offer the rest of the country other than basketball mania and a couple of car races (and corn - lots and lots of corn). If the cost of living wasn't so high, my husband and I would be in San Francisco so fast; everyone's head would spin.

And, speaking of knee jerk reactions, thanks Don for the reminder in your 5:23 am post. I have a bit of a problem with the almost messianic response that people have to Peyton around here. If he wants to throw his money away, and he's got A LOT of it, that's his business - not mine.
I can deal with sharing a home state with a prick like Stewart, and can take Peyton or leave him, but good ol Steve (Cedar Falls IA) has to go and remind me of a nightmare from an earlier time- Dan Quayle!  Geez, thanks, 'bro.
To quote Krista-  "*(&^%$#@?!"  indeed!!!
Welcome back Independent :)
BA & Don: Ditto on both your posts. This is one of those Countdown threads that leave one little room or desire to comment on. More important things to discuss and fish to fry.
Being a military wife, we have moved to several different states.  It doesn't matter which one you are in, there are going to be people who represent the state like Dan Quayle, etc.  I lived in Florida; the home of (gag) Jeb Bush and Mark Foley and Katherine Harris.  We lived in Ohio - home of James Traficant.  We have also lived in California, home of Arnold and Reagan, and how can I forget that we lived in Texas, home of the biggest idiot(s) of them all - GWB and Tom Delay?
I forgot one!  We also lived in Alaska - home of the idiot midget, Ted Stevens.
Thanks, LA (12:28 pm post)! I feel better now; well, at least a little. Check local listings, but it's gonna be almost 100 in Indianapolis tomorrow. Ugh...
Manning used to QB at the University of Tennessee when Thompson was running for Senate. It's probably a carryover friendship from his college days.
Off Subject:

but anybody seen the move "HUSTLE" The Pete Rose story, staring John Siezemore as Pete. Kinda gives a good idea on his character (Going back to the B. Bonds discussion a few days ago)
After all these years, we now know why Bush Sr. picked such an incompetent, inarticulate, bumbling, downright dumb Vice President.. Because ole' Danny (Quale) Boy reminded GHB of his beloved son Shrub Jr.

DOH!
Quale was picked becasue he reminded 41 of 43.  Also....because Quale is a box of rocks and a "yes" man,  that's what the Bush men look for.
You can find more about the Walz Burkee campaign at www.burkeeandwalz.com.  There is a contributions page that will show you how to contribute by credit card or check.
