This was the buzz around the office today.  Just about everyone that watched it was shocked and amazed, so we figured we share it with you all.  Unless, of couse, you're one of the 9 jillion people that have already watched it.  If that's the case, do yourself a favor and watch it again.

I'm all for the Buffalos, KICK LION BUTT!! :D
Is this a metaphor for the Women of America rallying around Hillary as the GOP Lions tear at her and some of her own Democrocodiles, do the same?  Or a metaphor for Michael Musto as the bloggers of Newshole call him names (Goober?...Ouch!)? Maybe its K-Fed? Rallied around by a herd of thirty year old Eight Graders as Britter's Army of Spear Girls tear into him, forcing her reptilian Mom to let go, also? The final metaphor would concern Hegel's Dialectics, Henry Kissinger, and Star Jones, but there isn't enough memory in any computer currently made, to handle all of that.
Hooray for the Water Buffalo, who knew they would be so inspirational?  See what happens when the majority go against the predators?

When we stand united together we can defeat anything!  That's how the republicans got into power, that's how we can get 'em out.
So, what lesson have we learned?

It can be said that if a community works together, they can overcome adversity.

Or, protecting the next generation is the most important.

I suspect that the Fox News takes would be that if the lions weren't so defeatist and stayed the course, they could have conquered the herd of buffalo and finished their well-deserved dinner.

I'll just take away that no matter what the wienies at Peta say, humans are NOT as cruel to animals as are other animals. But, that's because they're animals. Put away the cameras and cellphones, get back in your nice little Jeeps and leave nature to it's own. Nothing to see here folks... move along... move along.
I'm one of those who hadn't seen that vid. That was amazing. Thanks for posting it.
Steve & Walter:  Thank you for the laugh as I bid you all a buona notte!
Now THESE are the bulls that should be running in Pamplona! They'd put that little tradition out of business before lunch.

Or as the lions said, "WHAT lunch?!?"
That was pretty damn cool.  Those were Cape buffalo, weren't they?  They must have lousy eyesight not to have spotted those lions.  Glad they got their baby back.
Obviously the Water Buffalo Union was sick and tired of management/predators taking advantage of them (read: feeding on the young and the innocent).  Looks like a strike's a'comin'... which can only mean...boring safaris for a while. :P
The calf represents the Constitution.  The lions represent the Bush administration.  The herd of buffalo represent what the Democrats ought to be but sadly are not.

Here's what would have happened in Washington--the lions would have killed the baby and the herd of buffalo would have shrugged and wandered off to have lunch paid for by a lobbyist hyena at Signatures.
I wasn't one of the "9 jillion" people who hadn't seen the video, either. WOW! Hell hath no fury like water buffalo scorned. SEND THIS YOUTUBE TO EVERY DEMOCRATIC MEMBER OF CONGRESS! The only thing missing was the Marlon Perkins voiceover!

I'll second the thanks for sharing.
So if the lions are the administration and the buffalo are the people does that make the crocodile Osama Bin Laden.

Brenda- I love Kucinich but I'm a bleeding heart liberal in a world full of people like me he would be our President and the Department of Peace would get as much money as the Defence Department.  However, I  wasn't born yesterday and I am aware that most people are not like me or at least they are afraid to admit it. Looks matter and if Kucinich is serious about wanting to be President it would do him a lot of good to find a suit that fits and stop doing whatever it is he does to his hair that makes it look greasy.  It wouldn't hurt him to hire a stylist.

Walter J. Murdoch- Animals kill to eat. Humans kill for money.  One is much crueler than the other.
Walter J. Murdock, Cincinnati OH

Couldn't we learn both lessons? and not just have to pick one?

PS -- loved your fox observation, the sad part is that it's probably prophetic.

PPS -- and no wayne, larry and scott, you aren't the water buffalo, you are one of the lions, probably the last one to relinquish it's prey.  You all are just too dim to see the dangers that this administration poses for our republic and our way of life, and for that reason alone, I feel sorry for you.
Even though the baby buffalo got away I am sure it will later die of its wounds. Just like the lion getting tossed in the air by the buffalo was probably fatally gored by its horns. It is fascinating to see that so many try to through their own interpretations into it. How about we just leave as an impressive nature video of the everyday life and struggle on the serengeti.
Those poor lions will go hungry now, and the calf will probably die anyway.
It isn't easy being a predator and they have their role in the ecology ("the circle of life" - sing it Elton). We are up to asses in deer eating everything in sight, destroying new forest growth, spreading Lyme disease (my wife has had to be treated several times) and being deadly road hazards because of a lack of predators and hunters. I have to flash my lights and blow my horn to clear my driveway of 3 or 4 bambis most nights coming home.
It's nice to see the magic of nature after having to endure day after day on television the stupidity of man.

Maybe it's just because it's Friday...but I keep hearing "Circle of Life" wafting through the background....

I'd read stories about hunters getting surrounded by buffalo after attemping to shoot one, but to see it in action is amazing!
Hakuna matata, indeed.
This makes up for 4 Super Bowl losses!! Go BUFFALO Bills!!
Good for the buffalo!

P.S.  Hope Keith's back tonight.  Although Allison is great, I miss Worst Person in the World when Keith's not on.  Maybe he can phone it in?
Jen,

Humans kills for a multitude of reasons.

We kill animals for food, clothing and sport, but mostly necessity.

We kill each other for much more selfish reasons than survival.

Nuanced: It's too bad that where you live probably, and most likely, doesn't allow hunting. Since adult deer in most of the U.S. have no natural predators left, it is no wonder you have to worry about them on the road so much.

Please look into having the municipal government where you live hire one of the several organizations that hunt these deer at night, and donate the venison to charitable organizations. I've read reports about them removing upwards of 500 deer from residential areas without any complaints from residents.

And Scott from Nevada, it would be really interesting to know what happened to you that has made you so combative and contrary. I really feel sorry for you, 'cuz you need some help with your social skills.
"Those poor lions will go hungry now, and the calf will probably die anyway."

Boy, are you a negative nelly or what?

What we witnessed in the video is LIFE and in this case, the prey took on the predator and won.  The calf looked fine . . . limped a bit, but I think it will be fine.
WJ- I think I misunderstood your first post.  You kind of made my point in the second.  Humans do things to each other and to animals that are much crueler than killing for dinner.
Steve, the baby buffalo was the American public, the lions the Republican's and the alligator the Hillary wing of the Democratic Party. Clinton will take a bite out of us as surely as the lions, she is just sneaky and opportunistic about it.

Some years back a guy I know put one of those cast iron deer in his yard as an ornament.
Later that evening a passing pickup truck screeched to a halt and the driver whipped out a rifle and shot the metal deer.

I agree that harvesting deer is very necessary these days.
Oddly a number of Whitetailed Deer have been observed eating rodents, even when other food is available, and the incidence of Whitetail deer growing canine teeth is on the increase.
Canine Teeth are common to some breeds of deer, its probably a recessive gene.
Carnivorous deer hunting the Hunters and tearing them limb from limb with their shiny new fangs may be in our future. Global Warming is of course going to be blamed for that.
Final thought on the deer hunting thing...

We have to thin the deer herds because we have killed off most of the animals that eat deer, thus the influx in their population.

If the cowboys hadn't capped so many big cats and wolves, then we wouldn't have to be killing all the bloated herd of deer.
Wayne, maybe the deer will turn cannibal. I see a horror movie coming -- Night of the Living Deer.

We only have bow hunting and our bow hunter doesn't get very many. The county brought in sharpshooters to thin the herds in the parks.
Lets look at it at another perspective. Think of the young bufalo as the immigration bill than take it from there.

Sounds like a Gary Larson Far Side cartoon!!!!
nuanced, you have a good idea for a horror movie there!

[cue spooky music:] "Deer coming to get you, Barbara . . ."

Considering the number and ferocity of Mountain Lion attacks in recent years I don't think having a bunch of those around would improve the overall situation much.
I noticed awhile back that a witness to an attack by a wolf quickly said, "it must have been part dog because wolves never attack humans". In modern times few people travel unarmed where wolves are plentiful.
In Colonial days there were hundreds of attacks on humans by wolves , sometimes hundreds per year, until wolves were all but exterminated in the east. No more wolves no more wolf attacks.
At one time the claim was that there had been no wolf attacks in the 20th century, then no attacks by non rabid wolves and no one could prove otherwise since tests weren't available and victims of wolf attacks in the wild end up as splintered bone in piles of wolf droppings.
Wolves are unlikely to attack humans but that doesn't mean they can't or never have.
Mountain Lions will hunt down and kill humans, its happened too many times to be ignored
Wayne, Have you considered working for National Geographic? Is there anything you don't believe yourself an expert on?
How have I lived this long & not been aware of your multi-talented existence? Why have you not won millions on Jeopardy?
Wayne can be quite interesting when not talking politics.

Rory -- reminds me of the Larson cartoon where two deer are in the woods and one has a bullseye and rings on his chest and the other comments "bummer of a birthmark."  hahahahahahaha
as usual, the herbivors outnumbered the carnivors
at the watering hole.
i heard a theoy concerning the extinction of the dinosauers...that the carniverous ate the herbivorous
into extinction, then turned on one another.
only a theory, yet an interesting metaphor.
"Bambi Eats Thumper!"
Amazing? yes,no doubt, because this is solid proof that the buffalo did not act on animal instinct, but emotion - they put themselves in harms way to save the babe!! - Leaves one to wonder just HOW amazing this is, perhaps it is more common than one would think.
I think Wayne is confusing deer with that liberal-hating Cooper's Hawk he always writes about.  He never has answered my question regarding whether he's ever seen a Cooper's Hawk or not.  The ones I've seen and fed don't  assess one's political leanings.

This is nature.  There are no anthropomorphic lessons to be learned.  And no calls for veganism, which is a movement ashamed of the fact that human beings are a part of nature.

Now, human nature - and the way we treat each other - that is something than can be changed.  But wild animals are, by definition, untamable.
