For the first time ever, the United States Government is going to declare that a sovereign country's military is a terrorist organization. Iran's Revolutionary Guard, including the elite Quds force, will soon become a "specially designated global terrorist". The proposal was pushed by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, in an apparent effort to pressure the U.N. Security Council while simultaneously pacifying hawks in the administration. Unsurprisingly, The New York Times reports that Dick Cheney's aides have been pushing for military options in Iran.

The White House is starting to play down the influence that Karl Rove exerted throughout the administration. This despite the fact that they can't even FIND any one single person to replace him. The LA Times pointing out that the new White House counsel, Ed Gillespie, keeps pointing to his allegedly relatively Rove-free role in the 2004 election, and spokesperson Dana Perino observed that Rove started ice cream Fridays.

Tim Donaghy, the NBA referee accused of gambling on games he presided over, is apparently planning on turning himself in today and pleading guilty to all charges. It's unclear just what those charges are, and how many there are, because federal officers were also investigating whether Donaghy shared inside information and whether he was connected to the mob.

We need to stay out of Iran and hope this administration does not do anything crazy before the end of King Bush's term. Anything resembling an invasion of Iran would result in a very messy occupation with those Iran military members in the picture of this story above turning to terrorists acts. They may look somewhat cute in their green uniforms and some are called elite, but as with the Iraqi army they would be no match for our troops and would have to revert to terrorists acts shortly after their defeat which would be swift and complete. I just hope that this fact does not serve as a stupid incentive for Bush to send troops to Iran.
I certainly have no way of verifying this, but what some are whispering up here is that Karl Rove is gone because of Dick Cheney. Apparently the two didn't see eye to eye on the question of Iran.

Could be completely false statement but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.
Good Wednesday morning. So, does our Dictator-Wanna-Be have secret armed services stashed somewhere who AREN'T in Iraq, Afghanistan, or any other part of the world where service personnel are stationed? Is he going to create them in a lab in a petrie dish or create them out of corpses A LA Dr. Franken-steen?? He obviously didn't see the COUNTDOWN segment from last night featuring the head of VOTEVETS.ORG explaining that the whole point in bringing up the possibility of a draft was to drive home the point that are forces are already stretched beyond the breaking point.

So, there's Ice Cream Fridays at the White House? And, Turd Blossom started it? OK, so he contributed ONE positive thing to the Executive Branch during his tenure. I wonder if there's also Wacky Hat Day, Tacky Tie Day, or anything like that?

The whole NBA ref thing should yield some interesting details, especially if Mr. Donaghy decides to "sing like a canary," to carry on the mob lingo! Hope he doesn't end up "sleeping with the fishes!" He may end up with Jimmy Hoffa!
Impeachment is the only answer. All of them must go. If your tired of waiting for the next bomb to drop.
Call Nancy Pelosi everyday 202.225.0100 or E-Mail her at americanvoices@mail.house.gov. Tell her to put it back on the table.
It is the Bush version of the game Tag.  Unfortunately the American Public is always IT.

We cannot catch Bin Laden, so lets distract the American public by invading Iraq, we cannot win in Iraq, so lets distract the American public by antagonizing Iran.  What's next for W?  My legacy will not be of the historic proportions that I would like, so lets distract the American public by initiating WWIII.

He has 17 months left and I just don't know what he is going to do for an encore???
'Unsurprisingly, The New York Times reports that Dick Cheney's aides have been pushing for military options in Iran.'

With WHAT military are those SOB's planning on using?  Ours?  Should we just let some folks come home from Iraq and instead of letting them get on with their lives, send them into a whole new hell?

My God, what is wrong with these people?  I'd like to know exactly who these aides are and how many of them are willing to join the fight.  Forget the general public that really has no reason to join the military and fight (except for being cheerleaders for a war but not willing to do anything about it).  Let the 'architects' and planners of these wars go and fight.

I forsee a draft for sure now.  Get ready folks, we still have over 17 months until the next inauguration (if it is allowed to happen)-I can see the man with the artificial heart declaring war in Iran and reinstating the draft.

God help us all!
Cheney made a deal with Halliburton to expand this darn thing if it KILLS somebody...somebody else, that is.  Free of Rove? Sounds like Michael Corleone, OK, a Cheesy-version of MIchael Corleone, telling everybody that Tom Hagen is no longer part of the Mob, but will head West to run the legit Casino Operations. The Referee should have been working for the "Free AK-47's" Group out of D.C. and Italy.
These guys are supplying weapons, and training to terrorist organizations in Iraq.  It is only accurate to label them as a terrorist organization.
What's truly deranged about all of this is that the Bush administration continues to willfully ignore all of this:

www.asecondlookatthesaudis.com

Anyone who thinks the Bush administration has been tough on terrorism is kidding themselves.  9/11 may have changed everything, but it sure as hell hasn't changed their incessant Saudi royal ass kissing.  What will it take to get these people off their knees and defending this nation against the real terrorists?
You want "specially designated global terrorists"? Try Dick Cheney and George W. Bush. Their record speaks for itself.

Try them and impeach them.
Not to deny the pathetic religious overtones that everything this administration does, but I think that the people in this country need to grow up.  This is a great country, but we are behaving like the popular girl in school, except that the whole world can see our flaws. We act superior, but we can't keep bridges standing, our people healthy, or lead off our kids toys.  Yes, we do wonderful things as a country, but you can't keep poking entire populations of people in the eye with a stick, like the Bushies are prone to do , and then think everything will be O.K. tomorrow.  The Iranian people are actually a modern people with the same hopes for there lives and families, they just got stuck with a f**ked up government.  Does that sound familiar to anyone in this country?
here we go again, this administration has run out of ways to shift attention away from Iraq--all else has failed so now lets attack Iran and everyone will forget Iraq. Now THAT is some kind of thinking isn't it? Everyday that passes by with these war mongers and totally incompetent fools brings this great country one step closer to destruction. How in the world can we fight Iran when we don't have enough soldiers for Irag and Afghanistan? Please please please can we find someone, anyone, in D.C. that has the guts and the cajones to stand up to these people? I don't think there are enough people willing to do that, maybe going back to the 60's is the only way---when the people speak the politicians have to listen. Apparently killing all of our soldiers, especially after "Mission Accomplished", hasn't quenched their thirst. Does anyone feel a "draft?"
This is exactly why bush/cheney need to be impeached.  They cannot be allowed to start a war with Iran.  It would make the war in Iraq look like grenada.  It would instantly create millions more "terrorists"  and we would be there forever. There would have to be a draft, we don't even have enough troops to keep the surge in Iraq going past next spring.  And it would bankrupt the country.

I am fed up with democrates saying there is not enough time to impeach or that it would not be an effective use of time because there are not enough vote in the senate to convict.  When bush starts another war that could very well lead to WWIII are the democrates going to use the same excuse bush used after 9/11, "we couldn't have known".  bush/cheney need to go not only for what they have done but for the judgement they have shown and CONTINUE to use.

I think it is a good thing they can't find another person to replace rove.  Sociopaths are hard to find.
Funny, people were just blogging yesterday as to whether Condo Rice was a powerful and effective credit to her race and sex or a POS. I think I won that argument. Send her back to NY for shoe shopping to keep her out of mischief.
What military does Cheney plan to use for his military options in Iran? The best thing that could happen is to bring back the draft and watch this country explode in his face.
I no longer fear the terrorists coming from overseas. Our own government is horrifying enough.
Hey all you righties I'm only going to say this once so LISTEN UP! Any sort of military action against Iran IS A BAD IDEA! You want more of our soldiers to die and get maimed for no good reason? Remember Iran's Revolutionary Guards are the folks who taught Hezbollah how to fight. Last year the students (Hezbollah) gave the Israeli Defense Forces a bloody nose in Lebanon. That's right Hezbollah fought the Israelis to a standstill. The Israeli Army is arguably (man for man) the best fighting force in the world today. Are you righties willing to send our troops up against the teachers of Hezbollah? These guys are battle-hardened smart and tough. I should also remind all of you that IRAN HAS A VIABLE AIR FORCE as well. With plenty of F-14s which we sold them of course and we are still selling Iran spare parts for crying out loud! You want to see Gasoline go to $10.00 a gallon? Go ahead and invade then.
Our soldiers are in no condition to attack and occupy a nation with triple Iraq's population. A population I might add that will be well justified as seeing us as foreign invaders. Just how much will an invasion boost recruiting for Al Qaeda, Hezbollah Islamic Jihad etc ?
So all you righties who post here STOP THINKING WITH YOUR GLANDS and be on the smart side for a change. The side AGAINST military action towards Iran
Oh my god, they are planning Armageddon!  No need to plan for the future, it'll be the end of the world as we know it.  January 2009 can't come soon enough.
200 dead in Iraq yesterday, but mainstream media has everyone convinced that the surge is working! Now we are on the brink of invading another country, here comes the draft. Maybe this is what we need to get all the soccor mommies that voted for bush off their asses and into the streets screaming! Take their precious children and send them to Iraq (Iran soon too). Maybe this will open your eyes, those of you sucked in by georgie's flightsuit and accentuated "package". HE HAS NOT KEPT YOU SAFE, AND HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF KILLING YOUR CHILDREN! Believe me, in a draft, the wealthy will still not have to send their sons, can you imagine $250 Million Dollar Mitt sending his candy ass sons, nooo, I smell deferment. Can't even hide in the National Guard like Bush, they are already where they don't belong, OUTSIDE OF THE US (why do you think the Katrina response was so slow, we have no-one here left to protect us) I am so sick of fighting with the wrong people, THE HIGHJACKERS WERE MOSTLY SAUDIS, AND THEY TRAINED IN AFGHANISTAN! Iraq had no terrorists before our invasion!
In case you haven't seen this yet (and the blogerati are all over this), the September report will be authored by the White House!  Buried in an article in the LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-pullback15aug15,0,4840766.story?page=1&coll=la-home-center), "Despite Bush's repeated statements that the report will reflect evaluations by Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, administration officials said it would actually be written by the White House, with inputs from officials throughout the government. And though Petraeus and Crocker will present their recommendations on Capitol Hill, legislation passed by Congress leaves it to the president to decide how to interpret the report's data."

Nice of them to allow "inputs from officials throughout the government."

I think most of us expected the report to be a whitewash anyway but this is insulting to all of us, most notably the troops.

BTW, nice job by the Times of burying this information in an article about "redeployment" within Iraq!
Remaining true to form with this statement, "The White House is starting to play down the influence that Karl Rove exerted throughout the administration", this administration continues to see every American with a sign on their foreheads, which reads "I am stupid"!! Karl Rove knows where each body is buried. With scandal after scandal in this Administration, Rove’s arrogance amplified.

Rove played by his own rules period; as does George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.  Heck, they don’t even recognize our nation’s laws!! Rove gave new meaning to ruthless political operatives!! He has consistently been stimulated by his obsessed appetite for the GOP to remain in power. He has shown absolute disdain for the judicial system and absolutely zero fear of incarceration for the high crimes and misdemeanors he has been at the heart of over the past six plus years; outing a covert CIA Agent, “fair game”; swift boating a decorated war veteran, no big deal that none of these men served on Kerry's boat with him; US Attorney firings, Iglesias, “he’s gone”; email scandal, using Republican National Committee email servers or personal e-mail accounts, which is a violation of the Presidential Records Act, “not meant for me”; investigation by the Office of Special Counsel, “my family needs me”!!

In addition, Rove failed on every project he was in charge of!! Beginning with George W. Bush's failed Social Security reform plan; to the administration's response to Hurricane Katrina; to the failed nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court; and most significantly, the loss of both the House and the Senate last November, I’m shocked George W. Bush didn’t incorporate “Heckuva Job Rove” into his tearful “accolade” Monday!!

250 dead women and children in one day aren't enough for  The Liar. Now he wants to start killing persian children.
This administration declaring Iran's army a terrorist organization, while horrifying, does not scare me as much as it did a few months back.

First of all this administration is not only a lame duck, it's a dead duck. Their days are numbered and time is running out for Cheney to fulfill his premeditated pipe dream, or our nightmare, of creating another "Iraq". Wreaking devastation on Iran won’t happen.  Secondly, this administration, in addition to Iran and the remainder of the world for that matter know full well the US does not have the troops to “smell” Iran. Their original point of origin, Iraq, and their criminal and ruthless “take over” triggered a snag in this administration’s evil plan long ago.  Iran was “next” on Bush & Cheney’s chart!!

The bottom line is Rice, Cheney, Bush or any other idiot within this administration can call Iran’s military whatever they like; however their castle in the sky has fallen and the entire world has long realized this. The only people who don’t have a grip on this stark reality are the “prophetic visionaries” who currently occupy our White House!!

PEACE!!
First move towards invasion? What about White House announcing that WHITE HOUSE WILL PREPARE Gen Petraues' September announcement on status of the surge? One of the most outrageous moves to come out of this lying, vile administration! Not much press on this, though. Are the Democrats outraged enough to call Bush on this? Probaby not....
Whew... when I first saw the picture I thought it was a 'Guess the Caption" game...

Mine would have been...

"Sorry guys, my regular shirt was dirty. All I had was this old Infatada tour T-shirt."

But, after the capture of the British sailors, there was a lot of talk that Iran's Republican Guard was NOT UNDER THE DIRECT CONTROL of the Iranian president and they had acted on their own accord.

Granted if that were true, then maybe they do qualify as terrorist and ol' Akmahdenijad would be actually want them disbanded. But, this isn't fantasyland.

He can disassociate from them and claim he didn't know, same as when the CIA give POWs over to countries with less stringent laws on torture and captivity and we claim ignorance.

Ol' Dick has a real hard... well, he has something ON for Iran. And don't forget, if it hits the fan with Iran, they can start the draft or at least use the new emergency powers act to make G.W. sole ruler of the country.

Anyone else a tad uneasy?

WJ
This seems to be the first step in a future of military operations in Iran.  Surely, most are aware that Iran will and has supported groups or people set out to do the U.S. soldiers harm, but when will this cycle end?  Even if Iran now decided to actively help Shiite's in Iraq against the U.S., is the next logical move to fight another war on another front?  I would think not.  This is a further illustration that our continued presence in Iraq will bring about a continued and increasing presence of opposition towards our soldiers.  This is my first post and hope to see everyone's opinion on this matter.  Best regards.
If one of these Quds lads was shot by his own people, would Amadinajad lie to his family?
I have been sick to my stomach since the first whisper of draft. Make no mistake, the draft is an eventuality they had planned all along. All of the bible beaters will swear it is not georgie's fault, but the fault of those damn anti-christian arabs in Iran. Sadley, not even the white house is smart enough to realize that they are persians. Can you imagine Chimpy's face when he realizes he blew up white people!
Dick Cheney is absolutely determined to start a war in Iran.  George Bush is just the puppet sitting on his lap.  Neither Cheney nor Bush has ever seen a day of combat and yet they are running our military.  Extreme idiocy on the part of the administration is to be expected while Congress is not in session, thus Shadow President Cheney can claim authority for invasion under the ridiculously broad legislation passed to "control terrorism."  Without Rove there to bolster Bush to tell Cheney "no" we are in a lot of trouble here.  Congress needs to impeach this man before he destroys our country.  Where does he plan to live after being in office - Dubai perhaps where his beloved Halliburton is?
Bill Rochester NY (Sent Wednesday, August 15, 2007 11:44 AM)

Bill -

You have hit it out of the park again!! Thank you!!
Most people think that impeachment will automatically get rid of these guys.  I call for impeachment of both Bush and Cheney whether the votes for conviction are there or not.  Impeachment is a tool designed by the writers of the Constitution to be used to shake the "monarchical" executive branch up (or prevent it from happening in the first place).  It was created to prevent an executive from becoming like King George III of Britain...they are acting as if the Constitution they have sworn to defend doesn't apply to them.  Impeachment (or at least discussing it in the House) is the one device we have left.  It is not meant to be punitive, but to rattle their cages and say enough is enough, boys.  You can't do this anymore because we (Congress) have one-third of this power, and we're being told by the American people to use it.We probably ought to use it more, but alas, political punishment is all it has ever been used for.
Thanks for the email link, I just sent this to Ms. Pelosi:

Dear Madame Pelosi,

Since the beginning I have believed you were responsible, behind the scenes, for taking back Congress from the Republicans. I had read an op-ed over a year ago, citing your behind the scenes work at exposing the republicans shameful little secrets. At all times, you have been the epitome of class, you have not thumped a bible or heard direct missives from "god". You fought with facts and fact-finding, you are a strong admirable woman.

I also believe you have not really taken impeachment off the table, but, as a smart Democrat, you have seen that if you jump too early, they will scream and use their media machine to decimate your ability. I am truly believing that you are just giving them enough rope to hang themselves. And it is working beautifully, this bunch of crooks have done so many despicable things, it is oozing out from under the rock, without you having to dirty your hands. Bravo, Madame Pelosi, but please don't wait too long. It seems like the decider only got rid of Rove, so Cheney could start another war with Iran. We have one young man left in my family, he is 20yrs old, my only nephew, and to lose him to a draft would kill us. Now I know the only way to stop the insanity, might be the draft, but you know, $250 million dollar Mitt won't be sending his candy ass sons to war (I am sorry for the profanity, and mean no disrespect, I am just so mad!) Please Madame Pelosi, take action, we have almost no rights left under our beloved constitution. The decider will proclaim himself dictator if another war starts, he will definitely not allow us any protest, considering the bill he signed June 17th. Your country needs you to act, please.
scott henderson nv, 10:27am: "These guys are supplying weapons, and training to terrorist organizations in Iraq.  It is only accurate to label them as a terrorist organization."

Kinda like the CIA and the Army I guess.  "Losing" 100,000 or whatever number AK-47's (not to mention the however-many-billion dollars), lots of "training" the Iraqi "army"... yep, by your definition, the US is a terrorist organization!
Scott- A month ago our troops were in a shootout with the Iraqi police that they had trained and armed. So does that make our troops terrorists?
Couldn't this situation in Iraq be called a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia? I guess it all depends on which set of terrorists we want to back.
Those aren't the Quds force. That's the Mark Anthony look-a-like convention.
Does anyone know under what authority BushCo can do this?  Ordinarily, they would need congressional authorization, but I thought I read a while back that some previous bill (Patriot Act maybe?) gave them the authority to use military action against Iran w/o congressional approval.  Anyone know?
This criminal administration won't be satisfied until there are smoking bomb craters all over this planet!

Georgie - you must finish your current wars before you get to start a brand new shiny war.  And if you really want to go after a country that supports and supplies terrorists, you must invade Saudi Arabia.
Actually, on second thought...

Maybe this is why Karl Rove bugged out...

wHO CAN BELIEVE IN THE INTELIGENCE OF OUR GOVERMENT, IS ALL GOVERMENT'S BRAINS HAS BEEN SOLD TO THE WAR CORPORATIONS?
wHO CAN BELIEVE IN THE INTELIGENCE OF OUR GOVERMENT, IS ALL GOVERMENT'S BRAINS HAS BEEN SOLD TO THE WAR CORPORATIONS?
Does anyone really believe the Iraqi insurgents need help from Iran?  We are training and arming them and not keeping any records as to who we have given guns to. We failed to secure Saddams weapons depots when we went in. We failed to put Iraqis to work rebuilding thier country(instead we contracted it out to foreign firms who kidnapped men from the Philipines to rebuild the country) and thus provided scores of unemployed men looking for any paycheck they can get.  We keep pointing fingers at Iran when more than 50% of the foreign fighters in Iraq are Saudi.  We need to stop believing what the administration says and start believing our own eyes.
Bill Rochester NY (Sent Wednesday, August 15, 2007 11:44 AM)

Veronica, Pleasantville, NJ (Sent Wednesday, August 15, 2007 12:10 PM)

Thank you both for your brilliant posts.  Too bad that the White House doesn't read any opposition papers.
MR BUSH AND MR CHENEY: IF YOU REALLY WANT FINISH THE DIRTY JOB YOU ARE DOING FOR HALLIBUTON: USE A NUKE, BUT DO NOT KILL OUR TROOPS.
jen,il (Sent Wednesday, August 15, 2007 4:18 PM)  If you don't think Iran is actively participating in the events in Iran then your information sources are flawed.
Scott,
You might want to proof your posts from here on out. We wouldn't want anyone to question your sources.
Is Saudi Arabia the next sovereign terrorist entity since Saudi Arabia arms the Sunnis in Iraq? Since the Brain is gone, we are now stuck with Condi...as Scooby Doo would say, Rut-row...
I just woke up from a coma that has left me with a gap in my memory going back to June 2003 and all I have to say is... WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? When did we stop being the US of A and start being the BS of A?
Just woke up -- go back to sleep until Jan 2009 and will have all been a very bad dream.

"
Just exactly who do you think set off those truck bombs?
Answer is al-Qu'ida, the enemy in Iraq that some like to pretend isn't there.

The Iranians have been promoting and supplying Terrorist organizations for decades, this is no new thing, just new to some of the Democrats who post here.

Hezbollah's penchant for hiding their missile launchers among the Lebanese civilian population cut short the recent dust up, not any military prowess on their part. As usual they avoided putting themselves in jeopardy and just sniped at civilians almost exclusively.

Show of hands.
How many here believe Iran has any peaceful intentions for its Uranium Enrichment program?
"250 dead women and children in one day aren't enough for  The Liar. Now he wants to start killing persian children.
Lynn C in D.C.

I agree with Wayne on this one, Al Quaida is behind these evil killings.  These people will kill anyone to pursue their twisted dream.  Those people killed are not muslim, so therefore are expendable.  That is trademark Al Quaida.  Again, anyone that thinks that foreign fighters are not the ones that are behind most of the violence in Iraq are dillusioned.  Get rid of the foreign infiltration, and things will dramatically improve.  Our military stated that this is textbook Al Quaida.

As for Iran, I would agree that we need to think long and hard before ever going into Iran.  But that does not mean that we can't call them on there terrorist activities.  We need to continue to put pressure on Iran, or there will be serious consequences.
