Outlook Not So Good

Posted: Thursday, August 23, 2007 10:20 AM by Countdown

The Maliki plot thickens. The New York Times has learned the White House is getting ready to release parts of a new intelligence report today titled "Prospects for Iraq Stability" that will say it's unlikely the Iraqi prime minister will ever be able to unite sectarian factions and meet political benchmarks that have been set. So all the extra American troops are buying him time to do what exactly...? We've put all eggs in Maliki's basket because...?

Sue, don't leave us.. we all have been experiencing problems here.. they have been slow for some reason.. but I've noticed that some of the blogs have showed up, that we thought weren't going to make it on.. but they are there, maybe not 100% of them but they are...
Kudos Krista!
I've only been posting here for about three weeks and there are days my comments simply don't make it to the d'board ... why?  I have no idea.  However, I keep coming back and plan on continuing to do so.

As such, please reconsider, Sue ... we need your voice here.
Sue, When I logged on this morning there were 2 comments on one thread. Shortly after there were around 15, each written before the 2 I originally saw. I think that most of the blogs are posted, but not in the order received.
Please give them another chance.
"We've put all eggs in Maliki's basket because...?
we like omelets?

This administration has no clue."

Actually, much of what this administration does is extremely purposeful. The purpose of the surge, for example, is to keep the war going long enough so that the Iraqi parliament might sign an oil agreement that would give the oil giants a "legal" in to Iraq's oil reserves.

Bush very closely fits a textbook definition of the sociopath--he seems incapable of remorse, the astonishing number of deaths for which he bears direct responsibility apparently never troubles him... it is very, very difficult for ordinary people to believe sociopaths can behave the way they do but here he is, in living, bleeding color.
Great post -Wanda- and spot on with your recommendation for all of us to take a day and get out and protest.  Indeed, there is quite a difference between our voices on a d'board and our voices out in public where anonymity is nearly impossible.

Discussion boards are a beginning ... a place to practice our voice while sharing values, beliefs, and perceptions ... a forum for refining our ideas while considering the perspectives of diverse voices ... and all that is a good thing.

However, as you so aptly stated, if our voices remain here and are not considered beyond this venue, then it seems reasonable to assume the continuance of two things:
(1) A relentless chorus of "Oh my god, I can't believe Bush is doing "X" while at the same time he is saying "Y"...
(2) This is what he does and he's got about 15 months to keep doing his damage.

Thank you for making those points clear!
Let' see. Last time we didn't like how the government of Iraq was run we overthrew it. That hasn't worked out so well thusfar. And now that Bush has essentially dubbed his pal "Heckuva Job, Maliki", I wouldn't give a plugged nickel for that poor sod's longevity. If we are expected to maintain an enormous US military presence in Iraq until things "stabilize", God is going to be tapping His foot impatiently on Judgement Day while we delay the proceedings.
Pat, of course you're wrong , and thanks for admitting your lack of memory. You are the first liberal to do so.
We invaded Iraq because they would not adhere to and defied numerous UN Resolutions. And Yes, building a democracy was mentioned many times - selected hearing on your part. Most liberals voted for the war why ???
Don't say they were tricked by that dumb ass "W". If that were the case , who is the dumber ass??

Thank your for your thoughtful observations, he is a sociopath, but the scary part is that 28% still believe in him -- including some of our resident posters to the right of center.

About 49% voted for him during the last election as well.  No wonder we've lost our good reputation around the world.  Appearance over substance is a losing bet every time.

Good day to you.
"We invaded Iraq because they would not adhere to and defied numerous UN Resolutions."

Larry, we had no authority to invade Iraq based on UN Resolutions.  The invasion was not sanctioned by the UN and is potentially unlawful under international law (which Mr. Bush ALSO thinks he's above).  Also, if we really invaded them because they did not adhere to and defied numerous UN Resolutions, one would think that we would have invaded Israel a long time ago.  They have not adhered to and have defied more UN Resolutions than Iraq did.  OH, and Saddam also did not chase the UN weapons inspectors out, WE did.

You really, really need to check the garbage you post here.  Almost every single thing I've ever seen you post is incorrect.
Unnamed sources claim that Maliki is planning on opening a Liqour Store down the street from Nguyen Cao Ky's, in Los Angeles.
Bait and switch? Nothing like having troops on stand by for Iran? Or is that too cynical...
