Report: Senator Craig To Resign

***UPDATE**** Craig will resign...the AP says:

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Idaho Republican Sen. Larry Craig will announce Saturday he will resign from the Senate amid a furor over his arrest and guilty plea in a police sex sting in an airport men's room, Republican officials said Friday.

Tomorrow morning (yes, on the Saturday of labor day weekend...the slowest news Saturday of the year) Senator Larry Craig will make some kind of announcement.  Will he remind us he's not gay?  Will he officially wish us a happy Labor Day?  Will he endorse the Countdown Dragnet re-enactment?

Interestingly...the AP reports that the Idaho governor has already determined a replacement for the Senator should he resign.

I would rather that he admitted that he was gay, or bisexual and stopped with the self hatred.  Then he should tell the other gay bashers to shove it, start advocating tolerance, acceptance and gay marriage.  That would be the right thing to do, repair all the damage that he's caused.  Any bets on Craig doing the right thing?
Who cares?!  One hypocrite repuke out, one repuke in.
I'm "shocked"!! I was certain this would be announced during prime-time news on Tuesday after multiple press releases and an announcement from the White House Rose Garden!! - HAH!!

But no, not just a "Friday" announcement, a Friday before a three-day weekend announcement!!

What is also disgusting about the article is Mitch McConell's statement. "McConnell called Craig’s conduct 'unforgivable' and acknowledged that many in the rank and file believe Craig should resign."

Hey Mitch, what is unforgivable is the administration of George W. Bush; rubber-stamp congressional support for six years and YOU!!

I guess he blew it.

Brilliant Carol, it would have been a great start; he could have become an advocate for gay rights and have helped so many oppressed gays and lesbians, but no, he's too selfish!!

Wow, this guy seemed like the "I'll resign when hell freezes over" type. Maybe he was promised some kind of protection if he bowed out? Maybe he was threatened? Maybe my brain's in over-drive?
I guess he blew it.

Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa (Sent Friday, August 31, 2007 7:01 PM)

ROFLMAO!!!!

Actually Steve, this time he didn't get a chance to...
Figures they'd save it for the Labor Day Weekend.  However, since he'll be replaced with another hate monger, I won't notice the difference.
There is another factor going on here, folks, and that is that the Governor of Idaho is a Republican; thus, he will appoint another Republican.  However, the Governor of Louisiana is a Democrat, who would appoint a Democrat to Vitter's seat.

Thus, The Republican's can afford to lose Craig; they cannot afford to lose Vitter.  You can bet that if the Governor of Idaho was a Democrat, the GOP would be encircling Craig, accusing the Dems of unfair tactics, etc., and NOT demanding he resign.

It's all about politics, folks.  Bottom line.
Is it possible that Sen Craig wants to stick around til the end of September to vote with the democrats on Iraq as pay back for the republicans throwing him under the bus?
***UPDATE****

*sigh*

Can we get one on the comments, please?
Its all this sexual repression in the Republican party that destroys them, they should quit being so Anal.  OOOPs.
Evening all, You know, the many media folks who keep spouting about The "Honorable" Sen. Craig's "Quarter Century of Public Service," don't quite get the double-entendre there. Ya think? Lot's of constituents "serviced" that we don't know about?? 25 years is an awfully long time..Just saying..

This is my ode to Steve Turner, how did I do Steve?

Peace!
John, Keaau, HI (Sent Friday, August 31, 2007 8:23 PM)

No, I'm convinced the effective date of his resignation, September 30th, was a premeditated and concerted effort on behalf of the White House and Republicans in Congress to ensure Craig was "around" to vote in their favor; or better said, to murder more Americans!!

Contemptible, but expected; the GOP slime machine continues!!

PEACE!!
>I guess he blew it.

Good 'un Steve :-)
I was thinking today ... what if the toe-tapping was not a 'come-hither' gesture for anonymous liaison but rather he was just keeping time while humming along to ... Broadway show tunes?
LOL Steve and Paul
I'm watching Countdown at Midnight since I missed the earlier one.. can't wait..
The only bad thing about this, is there are two people sitting at the top of the totem pole that need to have their BUTTS ran outta office with the rest of their buddies!
Will craig's bathroom stall at the Minneapolis airport become a shrine of the republican family values?  A plaque at the very least.
the thing is that the Republicians try to use the ploy of themselves being on the high moral ground of being the party of those  who keep the gays from becoming more equal in rights to hetrosexual couples and everything else those in corporate religion ask them too.

So it should as no surprise where most of the  sex scandals come from, ohhh yes it is those  men who profess to being of such higher moral ground. The Republicans.

It makes you wonder, hypocracy is very much alive and well isn't it.
Chan proverb: "Anal-retentive man may not lose head, but will need flashlight to find same."

Loved the Dragnet bit, Countdown Players! (And I needed a good laugh after this week . . .)
Correction, Steve- he TRIED to blow it.
One can only hope that the Republican penchant for inciting discrimination against gay and lesbian Americans for the sake of political power will one day soon come back to get them in...the...ummmm, well, they'll soon regret it. Serves them right.
More on the Family Values of the Repugnicans.
Which state has the lowest divorce rate in the country?  Which state has the highest?
Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate, Oklahoma the highest. Gee imagine that the buckle of the Bible belt has the highest divorce rate in the Nation.
Just one more example that the R's talk the talk but don't walk the walk.
Pam, take a deep breath and let it out slowly, honey. I'm really starting to worry that you'll stroke out on us. Seriously. :(
What a waste of police resources, what a waste of legal resources, what a waste of political resources, and what a waste of news resources.

SEX!

Why is anyone anywhere so interested in someone else's SEXual preferences?

Why are so many seemingly obsessed with SEX?!

You're supposed to teach your kids to 'just say NO', so if you don't want the sexual advances, be an adult and just say NO!

You teach your children to 'just say NO!', so why cannot anyone anywhere on this planet stop obsessing about SEX?! You don't want it? - just say NO!
The Republicans are trying to find a Senatorial replacement who doesn't go looking for sex in a public restroom. At the rate they're going, they might have to settle for one who only looks in a bath house.
the moral party,ha. when the right wing threw all those rocks at clinton or was those boomerangs? sure hurts when things come home
I think the point has been missed. It isn't about what his sexuality is,it is about the fact that we have leaders who are saying do as I say and not as I do and even Larry Craig missed the point. The first words out of his mouth were "I am not gay and I have never been gay." What???? That has nothing to do with this. Fact is we have people in government who are trolling for sex in public places. And not just republicans either. They are the most visible right now because of the family values stand. McConnell says it is unforgiveable. I'll tell you what is unforgiveable: 1800 dead Iragis in the month of August, 22 American service men and women dead last week with no end in sight. This administration changing the numbers and the reports to make it all look better than it is. Isn't that how we got into this mess in the first place? Here in Arizona it is hard to make McCain and Kyl understand that those who don't want this massacre are in the majority and that we vote. They have forgotten that this is a representative democracy. They are not to go to Washington to vote their conscience or what they think is best, but they are to represent the district that elected them. The constitution trampled to bits and those who took an oath to uphold it betraying their constituents is what is unforgiveable.
Hello Nancy -- Thank you so much for your eloquent and moving post.  You are absolutely correct.  The real obscenity here is not that some moral-crusading senator is or is not gay, but rather this administration's policies that have led us into a ruinous and immoral conflict with no apparent end in sight.  Thank you for pointing this out.
Re: Nancy Shevock (Sent Sunday, September 02, 2007 5:31 PM)
"Here in Arizona it is hard to make McCain and Kyl understand that those who don't want this massacre are in the majority and that we vote."

... and unfortunately, this is a fact that seems to also be ignored by the current crop of democrats.  You are correct, the American people made their wishes very clear in the last election, but yet in the coming days we will witness the democratic congress once again cave in to the Bush adminstration regarding war funding, and thus perpetuate a continuation of the Iraq tragedy.  Indeed, as of this writing, the leading democratic presidential candidate has yet to apologize or even acknowledge error in her vote to authorize the war in the first place.

So I ask, what are we, the citizens to do?  Should we throw the current crop of bums out and vote the republicans back in?

Sad, sad, so very sad.

Larry can't become a Gay Advocate. He's a Republican. He knows what that would do to the price of Airport Restroom Sex. What if it was Unionized?
JAM, Pittsburgh, PA (Sent Saturday, September 01, 2007 1:07 PM)

Thanks for the concern JAM, but I'm just fine thank you!! :)!!
Texashogfan. Maybe the Log Cabin Republican's will put up a plaque.  "Larry Slept Here" or?... "The Craig Bedroom"?
Would somebody get a message to Keith that TNT is still airing episodes of Law & Order featuring Fred Thompson the day after he announced his candidacy for president yesterday on the Jay Leno. It is time for all of the candidates to get their equal time  on on TNT. Dick Wolf has stated that the equal time rule should not apply to entertainment programs. Let me see if I got this right. Dick Wolf does a series about law, but doesn't think the rules should apply to him.
