Coutndown Monday: Bust a Mahmoud

Posted: Monday, September 24, 2007 8:59 PM by Countdown
Filed Under:

In The MahmoudWe survived Castro and Kruschev addressing the UN (and Kruschev banging his shoe), and the Shah at the White House, and David Duke in the Louisiana State House of Representatives. Yet all eyes were on the Iranian President in Upper Manhattan today... Thus, were fewer, on the American President at the United Nations in Midtown Manhattan. Fewer still on Capitol Hill, in Washington, where Democratic lawmakers limped out of their losing battle to withdraw U-S forces from Iraq... to spar, instead, with a lame duck White House over domestic spending. Our fifth story on the Countdown: Yet we are told that it's the Iranian President who should worry us.

Hillary 4 Pres, Says Pres: Another prominent Republican predicts Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic Nominee. Well, not that prominent, just the president. And what a curious link, between the writer to whom he revealed that prediction, and the key softball question in last week's presidential news conference.

ODDBALL: Baboon crime...a golf fan takes a dive...and the Nigerian Parliament throws down.

The Nexus of Politics & TerrorThe Bush Administration knowingly used, quote "bogus intelligence," un-quote to make lawmakers believe there was the chance of an imminent attack on the U.S. Capitol, and thus frighten them into passing a temporary expansion of its powers to spy on Americans under the FYCA act. That's the charge of the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Terrorism Risk Assessment. Our third story on the Countdown: for two years, this newscast has recorded the Administration's willingness to terrify the public into voting Republican... it has chronicled the fears of the politicization of terror, fears originating even from the first Homeland Secretary, Tom Ridge. But these charges -- from California Democrat Jane Harman -- are the most overt accusations yet, of a government gone so wrong, that it is using the terrorists' weapon of fear, against its own people -- and against other legislators who won't go along with the program.

Think of the Children! "I'm not here to destroy Britney," he said, "I'm here for the kids." In our number two story on the Countdown, his name is Tony Baretto... Britney Spears' former bodyguard. The evidence he offered a judge... was probably key... when that judge ordered twice-weekly drug testing for Ms. Spears... in her ongoing custody battle. Mr. Baretto told the Today Show's Matt Lauer about that drug use -- after denying he was seeking a book deal... or vengeance for having been fired.

WORST PERSON IN THE WORLDSenator David Vitter of Louisiana, Billo and Comedian Rush Limbaugh vie for tonight's top honors.

Gerbils in Space:   As the final frontier, space has made many demands...First, we sent monkeys, then humans...An now, in our number one story on the Countdown... With Mars as the next great destination... It's gerbils."One small step..." still has meaning... even if the steps are really really small.

We got Another Olbermann Lie as the discredited baseball card collector claimed Limbaugh was first to use the "betrayus pun". A lie because it wasn't Rush who coined it, it was a caller. Because it wasn't used against our troops or Petraeus, it was used on a politician. And because the first media appearance of this insulting slander against General Petraeus was, as we know, perpetrated by the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann. Keithy, when are you going to grow a pair and just admit your involvement in this smear, instead of trying to weasel out of it and deflect attention to everyone else but you? Sissy.
Regarding the "suspicious" activity of Republicans seemingly pulling for Hillary:

This development is not an anomaly when one realizes that the entire left v. right, Democrat v. Republican battle is a false paradigm. Most of the major candidates are funded by the same corporations / special interests, and most of them either belong, or have close ties, to the same suspect groups (Council on Foreign Relations, Bilderberg Group, Trilateral Commission, etc.).

I wish Countdown would expose this. It seems like they flirt with exposing massive news breaks all the time (nexus of terror and politics, for example). But when you have a nightly Britney Spears and OJ quota, I guess some things just don't get covered.
Am I the only one who sees an eerie resemblance -- physical and metaphorical -- between President Ahmadinejad and the Cheshire cat?

Someone really ought to warn Alice.

“The cat only grinned when it saw Alice.  It looked good-natured enough, she thought; still it had very long claws and a great many teeth, so she felt it ought to be treated with respect ….  “But I don’t want to go among mad people, “ Alice remarked.  “Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat; “we’re all mad here.”
The travesty is Condi at Ground Zero. She couldn't protect the place she dropped the ball. But she has no shame.
Not a word about the UN conference on Climate Change.  For shame.
Oh yeah, Pam B. -

An organization that's aligned itself with Microsoft should easily have the ability to log IP addresses. LISTEN UP, MOD(S) - do that !! If someone is using another poster's handle, they should be given a warning (on the blog, since we aren't REQUIRED to submit our email) and banned for a second infraction. Short of that, makes us all register. Log our IP's, our email addys and do what countless other, less-sophisticated forums do to stop trolls. Sheesh.
Guys,
When you did the story about GERBILS IN SPACE,  wel, you made a slight boo-boo.  Yes a mistake.  You showed video of mice...not gerbils but mice.
OOPS
Re: The Brady Bunch/lesbian "story"...the publisher denies any such story exists in the upcoming Maureen McCormick book, you acknowledge that the rumor has been debunked and that it comes from the National Enquirer (which, by the way, quotes an unnamed "source") -- and yet your decision is "we will now proceed to tell you about it anyway."

If Countdown has officially decided to drop all pretenses toward journalistic integrity, why not stop interviewing White House reporters and constitutional scholars and just go ahead and become the next Access Hollywood? Keith can make his next Special Comment about which of the Olsen twins has dyed her hair to a kicky brunette.
Jane Harman - Now THERE'S a congresswoman to support. She's her own person, follows her own beliefs and is up for any fight. And on top of all that, she's a Democrat. ALL HAIL JANE!! ALL HAIL JANE!!  Full Moon (Sent Monday, September 24, 2007 6:30 PM)

Full Moon -- Where have you been?  You've left me standing alone.  (Oh, no, that was "Blue Moon").  Got any good new songs for us?
Ahmadinejad is proof that the devil speaks English and it's REAL interesting that the liberal media, while expressing their distaste for him, always find some way to elevate his American presence over that of our own President Bush. Whose side are you pathetic libs REALLY on?
Full Moon (Sent Monday, September 24, 2007 8:31 PM)

Well, Full Moon, I was on your side until I read that.  Who's sorry now?
Would this administration really manipulate intelligent about an imminent attack on Washington, DC in early August to influence committee members’ votes on making its warrantless wiretaps program a permanent part of our everyday life? Then after the votes are taken tell the committee members that the intelligence was not credible? Would this administration really use fear tactics to advance its agenda? Not Bush or Rove or Chaney….would never happen...I must be dreaming...were's my koolaid....
Hey Countdown -- After reading The Nation article that was linked on a previous thread, I just want to say one thing.  If you took a job like that, who would do your current job?  Brian Williams -- for example -- can do the news, but he can't do you.   You can easily do (and certainly deserve to do) the news, but there just isn't anyone else who can do what you're doing.  Not nobody, not no how.  Doing the evening news would change you (maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but someday and for the rest of your life), and then the unique voice you have found at last would be lost.
Condi Rice states to have allowed the Iranian President to visit ground zero would have been a disgrace. Ah, Ms. Rice, allowing you and any other member of this administration to visit ground zero is a disgrace. Those who lost their lives and their family members are asking, where is the culprit who planned and organized this attack against the US. Where is Bin Laden? Telling them he is somewhere in Iraq where you have 165,000 troops looking for him, and that you are having success in Anbar Province just won't get it. Leave the office Ms. Rice. You and your a-- licking behavior of GW Bush are not wanted.
If the Iranian president truly "has blood on his hands,"  am I to believe our government would allow a known terrorist to enter our borders?
This president has done so much damage, and now we are told that we need not worry, SS should be fixed, housing problem is just temporary, and that we are doing fine, well the only people that are doing fine are the rich, thanks to this administration. Around the world we are no longer respected. History will remeber Bush as the worst ever.
Here's hoping the George doesn't take this opportunity to piss-off the world again. It's all about the tone.
Were the non-gerbils actually rats, not mice?  They were clearly NOT gerbils, but my first thought was that those were rats.
Yesterday I went to see my 18 year old nephew off from the recruiting office in Boston. There must have been about twenty five or so 18, 19, 20 year olds getting set to go off to basic training.

There was a big screen tv in the room. And the movie they were showing was George C. Scott in PATTON. I was shocked that movie was on. I said nothing but I thought it was a little disturbing that they would show that movie.

And while I understand these kids "signed up",  still in my heart I thought it was a most inappropriate movie to be showing under the circumstances.
I watchd the president of Iran talk yesterday at Colambia University and was very much impressed on his demeaner.  Even after getting lambasted by the Univ. President he kept his cool and pointed out that is not how one should treat an invited guest.  The rest of his responses were level headed, and it is clear he wants Iran to be friends with the international comunity.   I was realy surprised to find out there are no guys in Iran, I guess that’s just a western phenomenon.  Anyway if only Bush were as intelegent and willing to talk like Ahmadinejad we might be able to get somewhere!
C.A. you are right on.  And also "who could have known" that al qaida would have done what they did to the WTC on 9/11 especially after all the intelligence (from Minnesota) was IGNORED!!!!!!
James, NYC, NY (Sent Monday, September 24, 2007 10:23 PM)

I do think Countdown covered the story, but I agree with you to the extent that it was not given the play it deserved.  Hello.  These guys are trying to fix another election.  Right now.  Not during the McKinley era.  There's much more immediacy to this than the "historical" spin Countdown put on it.  That's interesting, of course, but we should look at from the perspective of today.  A re-do is definitely in order on this issue.
What movie would you prefer Pat - Brokeback Mountain ?
liberal and proud of it (Sent Tuesday, September 25, 2007 10:23 AM)

Liberal -- please read my 10:48 p.m. post.  Be careful.  The cat keeps fading in and out, so we're never sure exactly what we're looking at.  But we do know that he has has "long claws" and "many teeth."
CA . you have now disgraced yourself. It is unbelievable that you would treat MS.Rice with such disrespect. I understand your frustration with your liberal friends in DC and lack of intelligence on their part , and with no hope for the future of the democrat party with Hillary  Roddam and Barak Huessein. But to call a black woman, one with more intelligence than anyone in the liberal party, a disgrace for going to ground zero only shows that you are now one of the mindless followers of MoveON. I used to think better of you.
Liberal and Proud of It (10:23 AM Post): I would not go so far as to say I like the President of Iran's demeanor let alone his attitude and positions. But I would say (and pay attention Full Moon) that although no one wishes to elevate Ahmadinejad above a US President, Bush does a real good job on his own of allowing Ahmadinejad to outmaneuver him on the international political front. Bush states he thought it was Ok that Ahmadinejad was invited to Columbia to speak but the refuses to allow Ahmadinejad to visit ground zero to lay a wreath. Why? Because he is still trying to convice everyone that it was Iraq and/or Iran that plotted the 911 attack? Ahmadinejad may be evil but he is no dummy and Bush is no match for Ahmadinejad's internnational political games. Of course then you have the real culprit behind 911 (Bin Laden) who also outmaneuver's Bush on the same. No one is elevating Ahmadinejad or Bin Laden above Bush except Bush himself.
Keith, don't tell me the gerbil action we shared last night was actually mice ! Man, you can really screw up a wet dream.
For the record, the "United Nations complex" is not in the United States, it's International.  It's located on a piece of land on the East River, which was donated to the UN by Rockefeller.  Technically, you leave the country when you visit the UN.

Also, all the "Missions" to the UN belong to each host country, as do the Embassies.  (Fun Fact: the biggest parking ticket scofflaws in NYC have diplomatic plates. )

The whole purpose of the UN is to allow all countries to come together and talk about any and all issues.

Lastly, after having walked by Ground Zero on Sunday, I can attest to the fact that the entire site is complete surrounded by very high fencing and off limits to the general public.  Some of the fencing is "Chain Link" that you can see through, some is the 'opaque let's hide the construction workers' kind.  NONE of Ground Zero is available to the public, except on the anniversary and only if it is safe (the ceremony was moved this year).  To allow any one to lay a wreath -- requires getting them access to the site, which is not easy.
NEWS HOLE - SECOND ATTEMPT TO POST, as once again, my posts are ALL missing, please fix this.

Regarding Jane Harman, last spring she voted “YAY” for the Iraq supplemental bill.   Jane Harman had just came back from Iraq, and stated, "Look, I would love to have cast a vote against Bush on this. We need a new strategy and I hope we can force one in September. But I flew into Baghdad on a troop transport with 150 kids, heading into the field. To vote against this bill was to vote against giving them the equipment, the armor they need. I couldn't do that."

Her record is disgraceful and her recent “get out of Iraq” rants are based on her fear of losing her seat in 2008. I’ll comment more about her voting record and her alliance with George W. Bush on another post, perhaps it will get posted then.

PEACE!!

Please do not have a repeat of yesterday News Hole.  Also, UPDATE please.
UPDATE PLEASE, and include everyone's posts.  From what I've read here, this blog does not reflect what a blog should be.
General Petraeus and other active generals say the surge is working, the situation on Iraq is improving and Winslow Wheeler a former Republican Congressional Budget Aide says in yesterdays newspaper that Iraq continues to get blodier, more expensive and the corner has not been turned and move on org is being critized.
Mike Guluzzi
Dear Larry,

On behalf of all the families of the 18-20 year old men perhaps on their way to Iraq in the near future and possibly killed, thank you for your reply. PATTON is the last movie families want to see when saying goodbye to their loved ones. But that's military propaganda for you.

And in case you hadn't noticed, the Iraq War and WWII are in no way, shape or form, similar. Minor point with you apparently.

Thanks again.

Keith, KUDOS and outstanding research on your WPITW last night!!

It is just one more example of Rush-I-Have-Cysts-On-My-Ass Limbaugh’s hypocrisy and stupidity!! The “comedian” and the rest of talking bobblehead gang, led by “Emperor Chimpy McChucklenut’s” hid from Vietnam. Cheney “had other priorities” to include five deferments, two DUI's and senate elections; George W. Bush used his family name to get into the Texas National Guard and “lost” a year of service at that; Rush Limbaugh had cysts on his ass, seriously, that’s one of his excuses!!

These criminals who sent our armed forces off to battle, without a justification, without sufficient armor, without a post-invasion plan, and with no end in sight never served a day in Vietnam. George W. Bush and Bushbots like Rush Limbaugh should be first in line with the apologies!!

John Kerry, who was incredibly advantaged, enlisted.  George W. Bush, also incredibly advantaged, hid. Despite all the talk about "honor and dignity," George W. Bush and the rest of the anti-erudite pundits seem to have problems when it concerns their own military commitments.

How dare any of these talking bobbleheads cowards decry MoveOn.org’s ad and how dare George W. Bush label it “disgusting” after what his campaign did to John Kerry and Max Clelandand.  These three, in addition to the other Bushbots, need an “ass” transplant, so they can literally talk out of their orifice of choice!!

PEACE!!

C A, Tuscaloosa, AL (Sent Tuesday, September 25, 2007 11:12 AM)

Your right Mr. C.A. it was just silly not to allow Pres. Ahmadinejad to visit ground zero to lay a reef in respect of those on the airplanes.  It is also quite silly of Mr. Bush (note he is not my president) to attempt to fool us into believing that Iraq and Iran were responsible for 9/11.  Everybody knows that we supported Iraq during the Iraq/Iran war and Mr. Hussin was our friend and would never ever consider assisting terrorists by providing them with wmd to hurt us.  Heck they didn’t even have wmd, and I doubt their ferterlizer factories could have been dual use facilities.  And the shabby way we have treated Iran is unconscionable!   After listening to Pres. Ahmadinejad yesterday, I kind of wish he were our president, I think the media has been lying to us about what he says!  Not once yesterday did he say he wanted to blow Israel up, he wants to be friends with the Jews, heck they even have Jews in Iran!  When offered money ($5000) the Jews even refused to leave Iran, they like it so much.  Your right again when you say Ahmadinejad is much much more intelegent than Bush, that was obvious yesterday during Mamouds appearance at Columbia.   Ahmadinejad’s is obviously a much more sophistakated  international game player than Bush, he has Europe grovilling at his feet, and even russia is helping with building the nuclear power plants.   I think even Saudi Arabia likes Iran.  Anyway I think I have rambled on too long here…
UPDATE PLEASE, and include everyone's posts.  From what I've read here, this blog does not reflect what a blog should be.
You know, I didn't think anybody could possibly be a worse president and sleazier republican than George W. Bush. That was before I heard Rudy is now seeking $9.11 from all his supporters.

Way to honor the dead, Rudy.
Hey, KO, very nice apology to Sen. Levin about your dropped ball on his votes on the various bills condemning (or not) the Gen. Petraeus ad.  So how about one to your loyal viewers/bloggers who are trying very hard not to give up on The Newshole and on your show because we're not getting our points across.  As for me, I vote for Pam too.
This is off topic, but I just found it.  If I wasn't so stunned by this information, I would be outraged.  Well, time for that later.  Bush has inserted a provision into the latest bill the White House is pushing on the Congress and Senate to redefine the treatment of detainees.  The provision will pardon Bush and all the members of his administration from being held accountable for crimes connected with the torture of said detainees.  It is retroactive from 9-11-01.  This is unbelievable.  There is nothing these criminals won't do.

Larry, Charleston "What movie would your prefer Pat - Brokeback Mountain".

At first glimpse of that reply Larry I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Not at Pat of course because I think showing Patton is a little ridiculous. Our 18, 19 and 20 year olds are much more mature then that to fall for that line of BS. Most these kids join up for two reasons: 1) they have nothing else to do and no other immedidiate future plans - no college attendance, etc., and 2) so they can have some kind of steady and reliable income. They would tend to look up at Patton and say screw you man, I'm doing my time, getting my pay and then getting the hell out. And while in I'm watching out for my ass and that of my buddies, nothing more, nothing less.

A more appropriate introduction movie or video and one that would be much more educational might be "How To Triple Your Sign-UP Bonus Pay In Three Easy Steps".
Pat,
Please stop pretending to be a supporter of the military while always denigrating it in some way shape ofr form. I live in Boston and would love to verify your story. Which recruiting station did you go to, I can quickly check the veracity of your claim. And if its true so what. I am a combat vet and know what warfare is like. Patton shows the horror of warfare and the loss of friends quite clearly.
Hey y'all. Nit-picky English professor is here; "countdown" is spelled incorrectly in the headline. And, I guess my brilliant thoughts from last night about baboons and their red behinds running amok through Congress are in the NewsHole great beyond. Oh well...
After approximately eight times since Friday to post a song, in which I changed the lyrics, it has still not been allowed on this site.

I have decided on to pick a song a week; I will try News Hole first; however, since it appears the moderator(S) do not wish to post my first one, I will then begin posting my weekly "songs" on the other blog.

It's a shame, this blog was once so GREAT!!

I have posted "The Way We Were" on another blog and it posted immediately (smile Inde)!!

PEACE!!
Excederin headache # 43 says in his speech at the UN this morning, "In Cuba, the long rule of a cruel dictator is nearing an end."  Replacing Cuba with the USA would ring just as true. My song suggestion, the Byrds, "I'll probably feel a whole lot better when your gone"  Pam B, thank you, your Giants win last night is helping my Rockies.  Two more please.
Here's an interesting article..as if we didn't already know it "The Stolen Election of 2004" put out by The Free Press..some of you may have already seen it..but here it is again..

Ghost of NJ (Sent Tuesday, September 25, 2007 8:43 AM)

You and the rest of the "right of center" folks post here all the time.  Your views are tolerated better here than our 'liberal' views would be tolerated on the Faux Noise sites.

However, I will acknowledge that neither left nor right tolerates insults well, and so we should both refrain.
Is anyone else with me who thinks that everyone in Washington should be thrown out on their keesters?  Everything they do is done for their own self-serving interests.  Everything is done for the "leftwing" or the "rightwing" of our political system, while everyone else in this country wants Congress and the President to vote for things that will change our country for the better and the correct reasons.

Please start doing stories about people who really want to change our system.  I'm not going to tell Countdown who they are, you can find them yourselves.  Heck, they ALL have websites.  There are candidates who are not part of the political "mill," with fresh ideas and want good, positive changes for our country.

Please step out of the box Keith.  You say you are affiliated with no party. Please, please, please do stories about the real progressive candidates out there, not just the ones that everyone else says we should consider.  I believe in you.
Pam Bignardi, have you been reading Joe Klein?  He got Harman's vote wrong, too, in his Time Magazine column.

She voted "no".

You can read about it here:

http://www.house.gov/list/press/ca36_harman/May_24_2007.shtml

Oh, and I posted a detailed post this morning showing how Petraeus had been called "Betrayus" by his troops and his Pentagon colleageus at least since he was a Colonel, backed up with references, and that never showed up here, either.  I'm wondering why.
I keep wondering...how is it that a patriotic American like Larry can keep posting when he should be in Iraq himself right now?  Wait, I know why:  he is only brave when it's only his MOUTH that has to serve his rogue presidents orders.
