Mo Gives a Crap

Posted: Wednesday, September 26, 2007 11:28 PM by Countdown

Yeah, you heard us!  Here's a piece on MSNBC.com about funnyman and TV personality Mo Rocca's involvement with a NYC charity that gives scholarships to kids so they can attend Catholic schools.  How did he arrive at this particular philanthropic cause, you ask?

I flirted with a number of different causes.  For a while I was really into permanent recognition of Taiwan as an independent state, but they didn’t want me.  I didn’t pass for Taiwanese, I guess.  So I sort of settled for this.

The full interview is definitely worth a read.

I really enjoy stories about celebrities who take their money and use it for good.  One of my son's college professors (statistics) found a direct correlation between literacy and prison time.  There is a 99% chance of spending most of your life in jail, if you are illiterate in the third grade.

By donating to a grammar school scholarship fund, Mo is indirectly reducing future prison populations.

Thank you.
Kudos to Mo..he's involved in a worthy cause..what better then to help educate the kids..
leave OJ alone
More Mo.  More Mo.  More Mo.
Off the topic a bit and excuse me, but if you watched the Dems debate last night you now know why we are not making headway in getting our troops removed or redeployed out of Iraq. The three leading Dem contenders would not guarantee that our troops would be out of Iraq in their first term (that is 2013). The American people are being stabbed in the back by these three Dem presidential candidates who are leading the pack just as they are the republicans who continue to support this conflict under Bush. Hillary showed her true colors last night stating the Dems had done everything they could regarding Iraq, stating she would keep a contingent of combat troops in Iraq, admitting to voting for the resolution that gives Bush one more step of attacking Iran without congressional approval, and on two occasions she refused to answer a direct question. She still has that attitude she is brighter and knows better then the American people that was part of her problem with her first attempt at national health care. She can't be trusted. To bad but she is far from being a Bill Clinton.

Unfortunately the best candidate has too much common sense and will not get the nomination, Dennis Kucinich.
As an educator in my "day job," I am thrilled by the obvious enthusiasm and passion Mo has for this charity and for the education of New York City's children. I might find this answer on the website he suggested, but I wonder why the focus on Catholic schools only? Are there other "non-public" and "non-Catholic" schools that would be "covered" under this charity. It looks like I have some homework to do! I could go into the whole "demise" of some public schools and who or what we can assign blame for this fact, but that's a debate for another time and would take WAY TOO MUCH time.
Let's see , Democrat debate... Mo. Obviously countdown is too embarassed to address the debate , rightfully so. All they needed was Mahmoud there to agree with them to make it complete. Hillary couldn't even answer any of Mr Russert's softballs - looking forward to future campaigning. She has too many negatives to overcome  - starting with the firing of and false claims against the Travel Office ,Liningstone and the FBI files, Vince Foster and rushing to clean his office , lost Rose Law files, Monica , Norman Hsu, and on and on. She needs to releasr her White House Papers now in a secret hiding place at the Bill Clinton Presidential Library and Massage Parlor. Good luck in '08.
Again, why do you put up new threads, yet have not updated the one from last night? Please, hire someone!!

I have to agree with you.  They post garbarge like OJ, but neglect to post responses that are of substance.  I sent responses to various people's thoughts and none of them have shown up.  (Probably 10 in total).  You are not alone.

Still trying to figure a way to spin last night ?? Congrats to Tim Russert , great moderator , great questions. Too bad not one candidate could answer them. Not looking too good for the anti war liberals, 2013 ain't soon enough ! LOL
BTW, should Me russert be looking for another network , I don't think PMSNBC appreciated him embarassing their candidate.
Hey Larry (1:23 PM Post): I too was disappointed in the deabte last night as well, and would never agree to cast my vote for Hillary. My only problem is that the republican candidates as Rudy, Romney, McCain, etc. are even worse. Any suggestions then on who to cast my vote for? How about BA from California. What say you BA?
Hey Larry I've posted on this blog that the troops aren't going anywhere regardless of the results of the 2008 election. Must have missed that one huh.
IMHO I think that THE ONE reason the dems won't vote to de-fund the Iraq fiasco is.
They are afraid (and rightly so) that Georgieboy Bush will hold his breath til he turns blue and strand the troops there. He will not pay, re-arm re-supply or evacuate them. He will leave them in Iraq, on their own and then blame the dems for it.
You heard it here first.
For my detractors:
Looking lovely today Mrs. Cleaver!
Kevin (ghost) of NJ (Sent Thursday, September 27, 2007 1:17 PM)

Thank you "Ghost", this is a step in the right direction (both sides); I will do the same in the future.

PEACE!!
Bill Rochester NY (Sent Thursday, September 27, 2007 3:06 PM)

Bill, I agree; he evil enough to do exactly that!!

PEACE!!
C A - I see your point, but I have to say that I think they are, unfortunately, simply being realistic.  As much as I dislike and distrust Hillary, she was correct in stating that no one knows how much of a mess the next president is going to have dumped in their lap (though I suspect it will be a huge one--didn't Bushie admit that was his intention in that recent book?) and it may take a while to clean it all up.  I certainly hope whoever it is will do their damnest to have out of Iraq as soon as possible, but I have to say I don't entirely blame them for making no guarantees.
I'm sorry to say I did not catch the debate last night.  From what I've been reading I guess I didn't miss much.  So better luck next time. It's still a long way to go..maybe someone or something will spark some life into one of these candidates.
I am still shocked at the notion that the question is "Will the troops be out by 2013?"  If you've been watching "The War" on PBS, the Allies dispatched Hitler and Imperial Japan in 4 years, more or less.

It's all about the oil.
2013! Everyone should write Clinton, Edwards and Obama and tell them there is no way in hell real Democrats will allow our soldiers and Iraqi residents to be slaughtered for Hunt Oil of Halliburton to privatize the second largest oil reserve on the planet in direct defiance of the wishes of the Iraqi Parliament, Maliki, the Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions and the three tribes. Iraqis are fighting for oil revenue and when we leave they settle. Iraqis are never giving their oil to al Quaeda, it's cowboy who invaded this country, killed its leaders and are privatizing their oil against their wishes. Killin and drillin for Jesus. Republicans are telling our children now the Jihadists will be exploding nuclear ied's in our streets. Only a terrified power hungry little boy like a Republican would intentionally scare children. Fry some Democratic invertebrates with email and tell them to quit whipping MoveOn for criticizing a general who murders his troops for oil and stop the slaughter. Iraq will freeze over before we stay in Baghdad until 2013. Kucinich is the man, the only one. Let me remind you my air force chemically bombed defenseless Fallujah twice just before Christmas in 04 and 05. Happy hunting.
Pam, You & I reached the same conclusion for different reasons.
I might find this answer on the website he suggested

Krista,  I hope you do go back and read the article regarding why Mo has chosen this charity.  I admire him for the choice he made to support the Catholic schools.  Sounds to me like they are doing a good job educating kids and sending them on to college. I am amazed at what these schools can acomplish with a fraction of the funding public schools get.  A little can really go a long way!

He's got my vote so far.
My, how history repeats itself. Dennis was the only one against it from the start, and now he stands alone (mostly) as the candidate who would truly end it, unlike the CFR/Bilderberg candidates.

Thanks, MSNBC, for your balanced coverage of all candidates views. Remarkably, you actually have a candidate up there saying EXACTLY what the American people want to hear (immediate end to war), and yet all of your coverage concerns the hypocrisy of the "top three" who, by the way, are in their high-polling positions in no small part to the media cooing over their every move, including you.

Thanks.

Pam..Nanalinda..It was the small "y" that did it for me.  That's when I knew it was Scott.
Hi CA, I think we have all been stabbed in the back and its all about the money form big oil.Plan 1 we all Register as Republicans and screw their primary process up so bad they don't know what hit them. What the hell vote for the Republicans let them take the heat for all the deficit and thievery.Or we pull a Jack Warner at the last minute and flip whoops.I can't believe what one of John Kerry's aids said about my no
elected official left behind test when I called by stating the Senator would not support a proposal requiring all the member of Congress to tested on their understanding of the Constitution Ya want no child left "behind village idiot" well lets have no Congressman or president who can't pass an ethics and education on the how that became that way and we will ask what we can do for our country.
Don't worry Harry and Nancy we will mae it an amendment and whee they live.Even it its only a couple votes it good.No much to write here except to say my party has been bought out like slut puppies by the oil
lobbyists and care nothing that people will die for money they don't have to put in and a 60 vote rule tat is not a real rule and the rules committee can change. What the hell our kids being wounded and dieing don't mean anything to them they are busy sending them to Iraq to win their hearts and minds.Sound like an echo CA.It's  not worth fight the bastards any more because they sold out on us.That is exactly the mentality Rove want for all our kids.Aint it good for you that 10 dollar and job with no benefits,we got you when you came hone from the war.
Plan B James Carville Looks like a good Running Guy with Allison Stewart for VP then for the big one next time. Will leave K.O. out of the election and here for the time being we got have a least some help from an  network.
K, NY (6:02 PM Post): You are right of course KY. I suppose I was looking for a more firm, Yes, on getting the troops out knowing we all undersand that cicumstances can change that may legitimize leaving a small contingent in Iraq for security purposes. Maybe just a guarantee that they would get out all combat troops. In any case, I see your point.
One of the Countdown Regulars gives to a Charity and we have to endure the Logrolling. Not too many times with this kind of thing, OK?

BA (5:59 AM Post): Spot on BA. In addition to the oil the American people will be sold out on either side when members of that party feel they have a chance to regain power. When this occurs they will play both sides of the fence. A truly smart Dem candidate with any sense would have answered the debate troop witdrawal question with the reply, hell yes, I'll get those kids out, because I am not going to sit here and watch our kids being killed and maimed over in Iraq regardless of any Embassy or band of al-queada fools playing terrorist training camp in central Iraq. If I need too I'll drop huge bombs on those fools but not one more foot soldier in Iraq. The folks wanting out of this war (the majority of Americans) did not want to hear about any possibilities of having to leave a contingent force in Iraq to protect Embassies or to hunt down terrorists. What they wanted to hear was that the Dem candidate was not going to tolerate our kids losing their lives in Iraq any longer, period. Contingenices that are legitimate could be discussed and communicated later if and when they arise. It is a sell-out BA, and I think that some know that it is also a lead up to an attack against Iran. Hold on to your a--. It's coming.
NO whiners aloud on this site. Take your crying elsewhere you pussy.
Having been to "Taiwan" in the 60's, I look with suspicion on Mr. Rocca's statement about the place.  The Chinese Nationalists who arrived with Chiang Kai Shek, think of the place as 'Nationalist China', and as they are running the place, that is what it is normally called, except by the Communists on the mainland.  There is also the matter of the indigenous Taiwanese, who looked askance at the millions of mainlanders arriving when Mao chased Chiang away (with prejudice for having killed his first wife). To call the place Taiwan is a bit of an insult to all the indigeous Taiwanese, having lost the name along with their identity. Some of them say the Japanese in WWII, were preferrable to the incoming 'Nationalists'. So, the levity with the place, probably wasn't all that thought out by Mr. Rocca.  Maybe next time, he should try...say...Lichtenstein.  I heard once they had a claim on half of Europe.
