So here it is. Covering the big news, the small news, medium-sized and irregular, The News Hole strives to bring everything you love or hate about Countdown to the internets.

Crossing the River

Posted: Friday, October 19, 2007 12:03 AM by Countdown

(Yeah, it's the wrong river, we may not bring any muskets when we move, and George Washington was going to N.J., but it still kinda works)

In the immortal words of staff favorite Bruce Springsteen, it was bye bye New Jersey... we were airborne. Countdown and the Newshole prepare to leave the Garden State for good after Friday's show.  We're movin' up to the east side (by east side we mean mid-town Manhattan....either way the beans don't burn on the grill). With our new digs, (building, set, studio, offices) we're going to have a new graphic look for the show. Same Keith, same Countdown...new coat of paint. There are a few sample images after the jump, we hope you tune in Monday to check it out.

Does this mean the blog updates are going to take even longer???

If that's what your new graphics are going to look like, I don't like them.  They're depressing.  It looks like a post nuclear war wasteland.  Keep everything the same. I do not like change.
HOT! Love the imagery of Keith as the loan tower in the desert!
Well...awright! Now it's obvious with them flashy new digs, you can have the Newshole Gang come over, have some hors de'ourves, and Ventilate! Pam and Krista, LT, Laura, Sue, Trish, Carol, Nanalinda, CA, Anamoly, the guys from NY. Maybe even get Wayne and larry to stop sitting around naked and itchin and sniffin their butt and navel lint, long enough to enlighten us with their cheesey anal versions of the truth. And you think endless shots of Britter and Paris wrecking their Ferraris is entertaining. C'mon Countdown...America wants to see these people! Talk about Reality Television! You think Washington crossing the Delaware was somethin'? I'd like to see larry cross Krista! So wise up and give'em ten minutes a week. You've given more to a lot less, and I mean a LOT less.
I hope the colors look better live then these pictures.  One of them looks like the desert in CA.

Steve 1:10 PM..too funny..Wayne and larry..ha.
Steve 1:10am.
You were doing fine until you mentioned 2/3 of the Three Stooges. What began as a dream ended as a nightmare. I know we can do better than that.
With the addition of Clive Owen and Jason Statham it would be irresistable. They both have my vote. Don't forget Ewan McGregor and George Clooney.
On a side note I love your quick wit and I'm even developing a fondness for O J.
No rednecks allowed.
R. NorCal (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 1:01 AM)

Me neither. It's all Bill Clinton's fault, or Hillary's, or someone whose last name is Clinton.
TEST, TEST, TEST;
Let's see if this gets posted.

The top 1% of wage earners, pay 40% of income taxes.

Top 10%, pays 70% of income taxes.

The bottom 50%, pays 3% of income taxes.

Yeah, Bush's tax breaks really takes money from the poor and gives it to the rich. Both the top, and bottom are at record high, (for the rich) and low, (for the poor).

Never mind that the treasury receives record revenues under Bush.

If only Congress could put a hold on spending.
Mucho Macho.

Looks faaaabulous!
Congrats on exiting the Garden State. I was born there & got out as soon as I could.

But as for your new set, I don't want to sound critical, but those colors are all wrong. (Sorry, but I'm a photographer & I just had to say it.) Brown is not a good color for Keith. Blue is much better.

And btw, I hope you also do a redesign of this blog. It is really slow - though I'm not sure if that is just because I have a Mac & you're connected with Microsoft.

Good luck in your new digs - keep up the great work!
Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa:

You really need to get out more.
maybe this blog will be updated more frequently...
“And you cry because things ain't like before
Well don't you know they can't be like that anymore”

Springsteen, schmingsteen.  If I’m not mistaken, Countdown, it looks a little bit like you’re moving to Wonderland.  I sure hope I’m collecting rent.
Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 1:10 AM)  Oh, Mr. Turner, YOU RULE!! After a truly sh***y day yesterday and the first week of MANY LONG WEEKS to look forward to in my job, you get me a great pre-caffeine-setting-in chuckle. YOU ARE THE BEST!!
OOOoooo...AAAaaahhh....! Is it just me (my coffee hasn't "taken effect"), or does the top image look like Cloud City from EMPIRE STRIKES BACK? I don't really have a problem with that; I'm a big 'ol STAR WARS geek!

So, it's "bye bye" to Secaucus and "hello" MidTown. Give my regards to the Jeffersons! ;)

Gee, and I was hoping for a kinder, gentler, compassionater Countdown.... NOT!

Does this suggest your intern can stop lugging boxes and equip and update more than once a day...?

I like Steve's idea of a Newshole get-together.  I know of a few other sites that have done it, to rave reviews.  And when are we gonna get featured?
I know where Secaucus is, and I guess I could find the Rockefeller Center which is about two blocks north of Billo's studio on Fifth Avenue (lol).

Talk about wrong river, the German painter who painted that used the Rhine river as his 'modal' and his friends as the soldiers.  Since the Rhine flows north, in that painting Washington is also leaving NJ to go to PA and not the historically accurate other way.

So Keith was more right than he knew (still the wrong river).  We'll miss you.  But I can appreciate not wanting to cross the river to commute -- I wouldn't want to either.
Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 1:10 AM)

junebug vs the trolls, she's better at ripostes than I am.
Steve (1:10 am post) – I usually prefer to ventilate in private, but I have to admit this sounds pretty tempting.  I saw a scene like this in Star Wars – set in a bar.  I notice you don’t mention that you’ll be there.  It wouldn’t be the same party without you.  I hope Countdown will also invite True, Full Moon, Red Queen, and all my other favorite characters.  I’ll be bringing my date Ben Kenobi.  He’s good at mind games and stuff, and he’ll be able to get us a cab when it’s time to go home.
Nice new set.  I think this will bode very well for greater access to in-studio guests, I've really enjoyed the one-on-ones when they're sitting right there with Keith rather than being piped in from some other studio.
David Molinero, Clayton, Georgia (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 3:55 AM)

Don't you know 89.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot?  Post your sources, please.
Darnit, I forgot jen and junebug, True, Full and Red (and three or four others). I can't think when I type (obviously). I'd recuse myself from the fray, for no other reason than I can't stand the sight of blood, and our 'pirahna gals' would have chunks of Neocons flying out of the studio and down Madison Avenue. For those who are about to blog, I salute you.
Springsteen? The new visuals make me think of "Radio Nowhere." Well, except that it's television.

I guess this means no more KO from whatever dimly lit closet MSNBC had been stashing him in on some nights. It was vaguely reminiscent of Harry Potter's accommodations under the Dursley's stairs.

Enjoy the new digs, kids.
nana. Donn't get selfish now. I know you'd like to have it, just you and George Clooney, but there are others involved. Baby steps. George will show up eventually. And when he does, we'll make sure, he'll be all yours.
MAC. I'm farther out than you'll ever get.
Kevin, Source is U.S. Tresury.
Bet that you would dismiss it as some Right-Wing hack.
BTW; Under Carter, who really hit the Rich with 70% tax rate, the top 1% only paid 12% of income taxes.
Same source.
Did you purposely design the new set to look like something out of the movie "Brazil"?  Does Keith have wings under his coat?
Keith, you do know that George Washington was going to NJ and not the other way around?  He was preparing for the battle of Trenton, NJ on Christmas Eve, which was the first of way too few victories for the 'good guys'.
perhaps a lone penal monolith on the dark side of the moon with the gritty texture of a Road Warriors epilogue or a closed 1933 Standard station on the highway to hell. Spice it up with some Tina Turner neon or screen the entire backdrop with Bagdad live action shots with helmet mounted aerial cams patrolling for forty weight in the shadows. It has a determined, dismal tint to it. peace.
So Olbermann's Countdown is moving from Jersey to Manhattan. Truthfully speaking, the show is in dire need of a facelift, but I'm not sure moving to the BIGTIME is the answer. I'm unsure if Regis wants Olbermann in his building, or even on the same block.
And look out for Geraldo. Maybe Olbermann just wants to get closer (and cuddle-up) to the beauties on Fox and the Almighty Billo, number 1 for 6 years now. Keith is doing so much fluff on his show that a move to LA-LA Land may be more appropriate. In NY He will be the odd man out, at least for awhile, in his new surroundings. Anomaly summed it up in an excellent and creative blog Oct 19, 8:50 AM, and by the way, thanks for the plug. That bar scene was a hoot.

On a serious note. Keith, get some guests that are NOT reflective of yourself and your own opinions. Your show is flat because it's one-sided. Nothing wrong with "leaning" one way or another but you need some political "balance." Then, if your ratings don't improve, it must be YOU, meaning you're as good as you're gonna get. But for now, you're "The New Kid In Town." (Eagles)
They moved your studio to Dark City?  That's what it looks like.  And the screen images make you look like Max Headroom.  Fire the designer.  Please.
Wrightwing (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 8:30 AM)

It's all the intern's fault? I thought everything was all Bill Clinton's fault, soon to be all Hillary's fault.  Oh yeah, it's all "a Clinton's fault", sorry.

It's all Larry's fault.
Johnathon Alter is WRONG!  Stark should not apologize.  He is correct is what he said.
David Molinero (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 11:06 AM)

Could you please post the links and/or the titles of the articles from which you got those statistics?  The only returns I get through the Treasury's website are articles that are either out of date, or aren't related at all to what I'm searching for.
nana. Donn't get selfish now. I know you'd like to have it, just you and George Clooney, but there are others involved. Baby steps. George will show up eventually. And when he does, we'll make sure, he'll be all yours.
Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 10:15 AM)

Steve -- Just double-checking on the ground rules for this party.   Ben Kenobi wanted me to ask whether canoodling will be allowed.
update
Geez Louise, does Keith ever take a bad picture?  I'm so happy to have a new beginning for Countdown.

Ah, eye candy.
Sorry KO as far as I'm concerned George Washington looks like Jeff Daniels and I hope the sets do not match the revolting purple tie you wore three times this week.  (Why not swap ties with Dana Milbank?)
I might just check out Bill-O's show for just a few seconds. Since you are moving closer to his territory, maybe we can watch him peeing around the Fox News building.
Where did the second image come from? You guys shooting the show on Tattooine now?

WJ
From today’s New York Times op-ed page:

“… [Mike] Huckabee is the most normal person running for president …”

That’s a little like saying I’m the “most normal” person in Wonderland.

Or maybe on this blog.  Who wouldn’t agree with that?

As I said to my friend Alice, “That’s the effect of living backward … it always makes one giddy at first.”
Friday, no updates? Update please
Update the blog.
Keith:

As a privous respondent stated, the colors of your new site are too drab.  They need to be more uplifting, especially since your show is very up-beat.  Good luck.
Steve - funny as always.  The get-together sounds like fun, but I'd prefer they spend the bucks paying for some moderation here or maybe a new server.  The current set-up just ain't happening.

The trolls wouldn't show up for your shindig anyway since they prefer hiding and sniping from the shadows then leaping back into their mole hole to get to their fax machine for the latest talking points.

I absolutely agree with Laura and GothamTomato.  The brown set color isn't good - blue would be a much kinder and gentler color for the set.  Keith needs a cool color palate anyway so he doesn't clash.

Still hoping for a better blog with frequent updates after the move......
Nanalinda, San Antonio, TX (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 2:13 AM)

Donald Trump says my approval rating is higher than the prez's.
Harry Reid's Smear Letter on Rush Limbaugh sold for $2.1 Million on ebay to go to MC-LEF that benefits the education of children of fallen solders and law enforcement officers.

Rush will Match that, so there will be over $4.2 Million for the Children of fallen heroes.

Today at noon, Harry Reid took to the floor, after getting hammered on this for over a week for the misuse of office, came out to try to take credit for the money raised for MC-LEF.

No doubt that Kieth Olbermann will credit Reid with all the money raised, with-out spending one cent of his own.

Rush had invited Reid, and the other Dems who signed it, to match what the letter sold for. (Kennedy could do it with pocket change.)
David Molinero, Clayton, Georgia (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 3:55 AM)

Huh???  I thought we were talking about Countdown's new locale.
Congress put a hold on spending?  It was your idol that has asked for over a trillion dollars to fund a personal vendetta.
Regarding the new graphics:

To quote Borat: "Very nice!"
Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa (Sent Friday, October 19, 2007 1:10 AM)

Thanks alot Steve.  I'm a big fan of all your postings and I don't get invited.   It hurts a little.
Steve Turner- To much blood has already been shed, but it would be enjoyable to see them hide under thier chairs like the cowards they are.  Or perhaps turned into quaking sobbing mush as they realize there gods had lied to them.  Or on there knees worshipping us as the goddesses we are. I could go on and on all day.
