O'Reilly is 'Redacted'

Posted: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 1:10 AM by Countdown

The ever escalating feud between Bill O'Reilly and Dallas Maverick's owner Mark Cuban was ratcheted up a notch this weekend with this blog by Cuban himself. In it he details how he was able call Fox News to advertise for his movie 'Redacted' on Bill O'Reilly's show (this is the movie that O'Reilly have railed against for the past few weeks because he believes it is anti-American).  Fox News gladly took Cuban's money and showed the ad specifically during the 8pm hour in an O'Reilly commercial break. The video is posted here.

O'Reilly has no real power at FOX.  Money is more important than he is.
That is hysterical.  It is all about money and not about O'Reilly for Fox.
This is completely brilliant.

THIS is how you fight back. Not by screaming and shouting and calling names... that's the domain of the wingnuts.

The best way to combat belligerent ignorance is with calm, logical, intelligent arguments delivered in a cold iron glove.

There is absolutely nowhere for O'Reilly to go with this one. If he keeps arguing against the film, he just looks like a bigger idiot. If I were Mark Cuban, I'd buy a massive block of O'Reilly advertising time... it's good business, and it will finally beat that jackass at his own game.

The strategic reciprocal of the "ambush interview" of which Mr. O'Reilly is so fond.
Olbermann - Thank you for making available (posted here)the Bill O'Reilly clip about Mark Cuban's "Redacted." Billo is telling it like he sees it and has made some valued points about Cuban. And as everyone can see, AFTER O'Reilly makes his point he allows comments from both Republican AND Democrat strategists.

As far as Fox taking Cuban's money, that's just business as usual.
Hey Billo -- Redact THIS!  -- Oh, I forgot.  You can’t see me.

A couple of thoughts after watching some of the video.  (Besides Oh. My. God.)

Billo is evidently planning to participate in movie theatre demonstrations against the film.  This I would like to see, but unfortunately, I think I’m going to miss it.  I don’t need the lesson about the war, but even more I don’t need O’Really telling me how to support troops.  I’ll be at Sundance 608 seeing I’m Not There.  Billo will be “blowin’ in the wind” somewhere else, no doubt.

Billo asked, “Why is the Far Left putting military and all Americans in danger?”  Margaret Hoover said that the film is “an incredible example of the hubris of the American Far Left.”  Gee, you don’t suppose they compared talking points beforehand, do you?   It’s time to remind these pseudo Clark Kents that it was the “incredible hubris” of the AMERICAN FAR RIGHT that put those troops where they are today and put us all in danger.

Finally, Margaret Hoover (must think of snarky nickname) complained that the publisher of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer should cooperate with the FBI because it’s really the civic duty of Americans to do so.  I don’t remember her (or anyone else at Fox Noise) suggesting the same thing to Judith Miller.  Do you?
I think the hypocrisy of FOX is a moot point. It's be a kick to see Bill-O try and defend his compmany's prostitution.
No fear Keith , take Cuban's blood money and show the ad. People that watch Mr O'Reilly aern't going to watch that garbage anyway. BTW, I hear Fox advertises on your show all the time , and Bill's ratings skyrocket !  Go figure.
To Keith Olbermann,
As Thanksgiving 2007 is upon us, may I take a moment and give thanks to you. And while it's true you are only one person and certainly can't be responsible for bringing to light all the hyprocisy our country has been forced fed for years now by Bill O'Reilly, Fox News and right wing talk radio, still it is astounding to many of us that you continue to attempt to wake up America. To make us all think.

And as we turn the corner towards 2008 and another presidential election, it is our hope that you continue to enlighten this country one hour at a time, to let every single person in this country realize that in fact there is nothing to fear but fear itself, something the Republican Party and their supporters just can't seem to comprehend.

To Lawrence O'Donnell,
Thank you too sir. As you said last night, indeed the only way our country will be able to end the Iraq War will be to elect a Democratic President. We do not under any condition want war mongers running our country any longer, which is what electing another Republican will give us. We want to support  our troops, which as Mr. Olbermann explained so eloquently last week, means bringing them home to their families, where they belong.

We want our soul back, something that was taken from us in 2000 by the Supreme Court and has yet to be returned.

Please country, wake up. Please.
If you read Mark Cuban's blog entry, I find that the most sad and frightening aspect of all this ilk is that minions of FAUX and "he who shall not be named" actually clogged up phone lines and a website TO HELP VETERANS in order to make bomb threats, death threats, threats to employees, etc. I guess it's more important for these "people" to show how "manly" and "powerful" and "right" they are than to help veterans returning from this horrible war that these "manly" and "powerful" and "right" people are too chicken$hit to go fight themselves.
Cuban appears to have Pimped O'Reilly's Ride.
Why doesn't Cuban advertise on MSNBC ??

BECAUSE NOBODY WATCHES !!!
Anomaly, I'm not the only person that is tired of hearing the name BILLO! BILLO THIS,BILLO THAT! Sounds like Comcast has had enough of MSNBC. THAT you should be worried about! I promise to never speak of BILLO again. Really,I promise.  John Scully Denver Co. (Sent Monday, November 19, 2007 5:02 PM)

Mr. Scully – I just re-read your message, and I believe my apologies are in order.  People come and go so quickly here.  It’s hard to pick up subtleties on the first read, especially when you’re as flighty as I am.  You must speak of Billo again, and again, and again.  What would I do without it?  REALLY.
To the dummies on the left who really think they have something here. Fox advertises all over other cable news outlets and others advertise on Fox. It's the nature of the beast. It's called money. I would suggest that Cuban had to pay Fox a bundle to get his movie ad on air there.

There will come a time when Billo is not #1. Everything changes sooner or later. But he's been #1 for almost 7 years now. That's a great run and it won't change anytime soon. Look for Cuban to eventually appear on The Factor if he has the guts. O'Reilly always invites those who disagree with him to come on  his show to express their views.

Remember, Olbermann posted O'Reilly's talking points and more at the heading of this thread, taking much time. Kudos to Olbermann to actually air Billo here. Great television !!
Kevin, Suffolk- Nicely said.
OK Keith, I guess I'll be watching my first ever episode of "The Simpsons" this Sunday - bloggers, I may need you to explain if I get lost - but you have me intrigued, and I'm curiously excited by it all!

BTW, thanx for trying to up the intelligence "factor"
(pun intended!) of the #1 story - I really don't miss Michael Musto or that creepy "Soup" guy -

Hope you have a lovely Thanxgiving - try not to OD on the turkey -
To LT in Maryland, Native American on Navajo land, Sue in Wisconsin-land, and Rana in never-never land:

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
Can anyone please explain Keith Olbermann's obsession with Bill O'Reilly and Fox News?  Bashing him and Bush doesn't do anything for ratings.
Hey gang! Not entirely off topic because this story has to do with rodents, too. The animal conspiracy rises again! Check this out:

But, I guess New Jersey squirrels are safe to eat! "How 'bout some more squirrel, Mr. Taggart? I'd say you've had enough!" [insert gagging noise here] Feel free to NOT SHARE any Thanksgiving side dish recipes!!!

A few links for all of you folks who believe O'Reilly's bull about Cuban.  Mark Cuban is a patriot who SHOWS the troops he supports them on a daily basis.  He created the Fallen Heroes Fund to assist the families of seriously wounded and killed troops and matches donations with money from his own pocket.  He CREATED the Seats for Soldiers events at the Mavericks' home games in 2004 . . . the most recent event was held on November 15 . . . 20,000 t-shirts were handed out to attendees.  The t-shirts gave the recruiting number for the Texas National Guard and said, "Defending our Freedom."  This event was planned months in advance of O'Reilly's BS call for signs at the AAC saying "Support our Troops."  If all you know about the movie "Redacted" is what O'Reilly has been spewing, then you don't know what you're talking about.  Mr. O'Reilly's BS has caused Cuban to receive death threats, bomb threats and has caused the phone system and website of the Fallen Heroes Fund to be shutdown.

Good job, Kool Aid drinkers.  Way to "support" the troops!  You and O'Reilly deserve each other.

Unnamed sources claim FOX is soon to release its' own movie called "Redactyl", featuring Bill O'Reilly continuously washing his webbed feet and tail, while humming, "Trois Gymniopedes" by Erik Satie.
Can't pass up the chance to commend (?)MSNBC for accepting an ad for Fox News (and a full 30 second one at that) last night right in the middle of the first West Coast broadcast of Countdown -- surreal and meta in one fell swoop!
Well the big fat talking bobblehead just isn't as important has HE thinks he is, but most of us knew that all along - LOL!!

"His" boycott on France - What a joke and the bobblehead insisted it was successful because of him -ok, fly back down to earth Billo!! There was no boycott Billo!!

War on Christmas - Shut up but nice diversion from reporting on the civil war in Iraq for the last two Christmas seasons!! Nice job NOT reporting or discussing anything that might be factual and make George W. Bush look bad!!

Oh, I cannot forget his in-depth reporting on lesbian gangs during the height of the Alberto Gonzalez scandal; Scooter Libby, who is he?

Etc. etc. etc.!!

Poor Billo, I just can't stop laughing!!

PEACE!!
I think this is good.  Not only will the movie lose money because only the stupidest of the far left losers will pay to see it, but also on advertising.  Consider the wisdom of their move, spend premium dollars to advertise to a demographic that is hostile to their product and not likely to generate sales.  The term loser left loonys comes to mind.
UPDATE, NO REPEAT OF YESTERDAY PLEASE NEWS HOLE.
UPDATE, NO REPEAT OF YESTERDAY PLEASE NEWS HOLE.
This makes you wonder, how much has the Bush admin paid Fox over the years!
One thing is for sure Cuban's ad will reach far more viewers on Fox than any other cable network. Cuban ain't dumb and neither is Fox.
Slightly off-topic, but here’s an interesting article on the return to “normal life” in Baghdad since the surge began.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/20/world/middleeast/20surge.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

We should all be happy for this, of course.  And we should hope it lasts.   But I’m still waiting for a good answer as to why we needed to spend 4,000 precious American lives, countless – but equally precious -- Iraqi lives, and $1.5 to 2.0 trillion to tear Iraq apart, just so we could return it to its previous condition.  Especially when the biggest bogey-man haunting children’s dreams is still terrorism.  Same place – just different madmen.

“It is all deliberately idyllic. Mrs. Aasan and the other two women at the library have banned violent images, guiding the children toward portraits of hope. The children are also not allowed to discuss the violence they have witnessed.  ‘Our aim is to fight terrorism,’ Mrs. Aasan said. ‘We want them to overcome their personal experiences.’”

And, if we had never been there, would we have had THIS on our collective conscience?

“But there are scars in the voice of a ponytailed little girl who said she had less time for fun since her father was incapacitated by a bomb. (‘We try to make him feel better and feel less pain,’ she said.) And pain still lingers in the silence of Mrs. Aasan’s 10-year-old son, Abather, who accompanies her wherever she goes.”

I surely hope NEOCONs are not planning to tell me that we needed to do this “for the children.”  Don’t bother.
Anomaly (deliberately idyllic) (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 1:14 PM)

I wonder if the neocon's overriding urge to swiftboat children will take over before they can discredit the article.
"Can anyone please explain Keith Olbermann's obsession with Bill O'Reilly and Fox News?  Bashing him and Bush doesn't do anything for ratings."

It's not about the ratings, Mark... it's about telling the truth about Faux News and King George the First.
Frank, Reno- I have never seen Mark Cuban advertise on MSNBC.  You don't actually watch the channel, do you?
"...spend premium dollars to advertise to a demographic that is hostile to their product and not likely to generate sales...". The poster seems to be talking about Republican Politicians in this part.
Scott Henderson- Are all movies about war unpatriotic and bad?  How do you feel about Apocolypse Now, Full Metel Jacket, Platoon, or even MASH?  Just curious.
Krista 10:53 AM..people eat squirrels in New Jersey? Wow..that's news to me.
Billo might invite those who disagree with him to appear on his show to state their views, but invariably they are shouted down or criticized by O'Reilly. On occasion, I've even seen him go so far as to have their microphones cut off.

Personally, I think Cuban was crazy to pay for commercials on "The O'Reilly Factor" in the first place. Billo's excessive ranting and raving is creating more publicity for and interest in "Redacted" than any commercial ever will. Cuban should put O'Reilly on his Christmas list...and send him a regifted copy of "Culture Warrior".
To the dummies on the left who really think they have something here
Full Moon (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 10:33 AM)

And you wonder why no one likes you, or as you put it, "you're the bad seed as usual", this statement is why!!

...people eat squirrels in New Jersey? Wow..that's news to me.

Laura in Los Angeles (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 2:21 PM)

It's news to me too, my husband refers to them as "tree rats", not an appetizing thought.  It's one I haven't tried.
I wonder if the neocon's overriding urge to swiftboat children will take over before they can discredit the article. Kevin, Lincoln, NE (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 1:59 PM)

Kevin -- This gives new a whole new meaning to the words “swiftboating children.”  In this scenario, the children are actually on the boats going up the Mekong delta.  How can they sleep at night?
Why doesn't Cuban advertise on MSNBC ??
BECAUSE NOBODY WATCHES !!!
Frank, Reno (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 10:24 AM)

I must again apologize for my husband Larry for posting as Frank from Reno again.  I caught him just now and I just don't know what to do.  He went out and bought another computer after I took a hammer to his old one.

He never lets facts get in the way of a good story.  He's just so pig-headed and refuses to watch anything but Fox News.  I'm sorry to all of you fine bloggers for having to put up with him, but imagine how I feel? I wish I could just scroll past him every day.
jen'il (2:19 PM Post): Perhaps an unfair question for Scott. He has no idea what it was like in Nam or Korea during these conflicts. So he has no basis on which to judge these films. A question. Were these films / television programs produced after these conflicts ended or while we still had troops serving in these areas?
American Citizen, Anywhere, USA (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 9:33 AM) Beautifully said - THANK YOU!

Laura in Los Angeles (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 2:21 PM) Apparently, according to Yahoo!News, they do. Would some of our NJ bloggers care to comment on this?!
To Larry's Wife: Next time you go shopping maybe you should get some teeth. I'll bet you are much too young to go without teeth and little Larry Bubba is much too old to go without shoes.
CA- Of course I know it is unfair to question scott but if he is going to come here with such swill he should have to think about it for a split second, I have lost hope it will stick.  I often feel when he posts here that he is entering a battle of wits unarmed, but that is his choice, long live free speech.  The movies I mentioned were off the top of my head. Yes, they were made after the wars in question.  Does that mean no war movies can be made while we are at war? Apocolypse Now is perhaps the best war movie ever and it is clearly not anti-american it's anti-war and tells a really good story.  I just suspect that the movie "Redacted" that scott hates so much may do the same although I'm sure not as well.  Most good war movies do whenever they are made.  I think making a movie about a current war that encourages thought is a good thing.
Scott in NV. Here's an idea so obvious even you and Larry ought to try it. Before condemning a movie, book, or, cd, try watching , reading, or, listening to it FIRST! After that feel free to flap your yap.
Johnny we hardly knew ya. John McCain get your blumming bunns off our aircraft. No more freed ride and waste of money and troops on your campaign.Folks this guy was no pilot. He cracked up 4 count em 4 aircraft before being shot down in Vietnam making it number 5 on the Countdown. If The Navy didn’t wan’t to let him be a piliot but daddy cakes was an Admiral  Take look at this and draw draw you one  conclusion .Not by fixed new. Lets hope he dosent fly the turkey in men. Or maybe that’s the wrong question.
www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1999-03-25/news/is-john-mccain-a-war-hero/2 When one totals McCain's 23 missions over North Vietnam, times the number of minutes he was actually over enemy territory (approximately 20 to 35 minutes per mission), McCain's total time over Vietnam before being shot down, was about 10 1/2 hours. For those 10 1/2 hours over Vietnam, McCain, the Admiral's son, was awarded two Silver Stars, two Legions of Merit, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, three Bronze Stars, the Vietnamese Legion of Honor and three Purple Hearts averaging over one hero medal per hour. That is like some land speed record. This isn’t tabloid trash folks.
Happy Thanksgiving troops and Kevin say safe where ever you are over there.
Petty Pamela (Nov. 20, 2:37 PM) Everybody is all jacked up over this stupid thread. Cuban vs. O'Reilly. Olbermann has "Got Nothing Better To Do."
(LeAnn Rimes) He's an entertainer just like Billo and Rush. He likes to fire up his flock too.

Yeah, I said "dummies on the left." Been called worst my you many, many times. Where's the Orange Alert? What about the liberal agreement to ignore any comments made by us conservatives. Are you having one of your "relapses?" The "bad seed" reference came after reading one of Rana's blogs.
Do you realize that both of you always have to be right? It's really unbelievable.

I play the devil's advocate on this blog. Don't care where the ax falls or who drops it. Olbermann and the moderator are running the show. Here's my next line in the script. Have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
Well done, Mark Cuban.  He understands that when it's money vs. political ideology for these NeoConNutJobs, dollars will win every time.  It's the God they really worship.

While Roger Ailes might be a good buddy of Rudy Guliani, mega-bucks Mitt Romney could probably buy Faux Made-Up News support the same way he's buying the Republican Presidential nomination.
C A, Tuscaloosa, AL (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 2:49 PM)

Typical of a liberal, make an assumption based on zero evidence, don't even realize an assumption was made and call it fact.  It’s one reason liberals are so often wrong.
FULL MOON (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 3:51 PM)

Full Moon, first of all, thanks for calling me "Pretty, pretty Pamela.  Secondly, I thought I would give you a second chance after I read what you did about being viewed as "the bad seed." Therefore, call it a "relapse" or an act of "trying" again, as while I disagreed with your post, I believed you had a right to post it here, the moderators did, it's an open blog, therefore I kind of felt bad for you.

Then I read what you wrote this morning, you called us "dummies"; I realized it was me who was perhaps the "dummy" is even trying to give you another chance.

I am still willing if you are; however, I have NEVER called you worse, ever.  I have never called you a dummy or worse.  I'm sorry, you are misstating the truth Full Moon.

Again, if you would like to discuss issues without name calling, I will; I honestly did feel bad about the "bad seed" comment you wrote after I read it; again, I give people chances, can you say the same about yourself?

PEACE TO YOU!!
Full Moon, I thought you were "the Pacifier."  What's up with your being the "Devil's Advocate" now?  Two different things.  Did you finally look up the word "pacify" and figure out you didn't know what you were talking about earlier?

All I've seen you do is be an instigator and jerk.

Oh, well, guess you use a different dictionary.  Carry on with whatever you call what you do here.
