Who is Pushing Mitt?

Posted: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 5:34 PM by Countdown

Last week the Romney campaign cried foul when they found out that there was push polling going on that might adversely affect their campaign. This week they're crying foul because some are implicating the Romney Campaign of push polling themselves. Not sure how this is going to turn out, but if it goes the wrong way for Mitt, this could be trouble.  A reader of TPM wonders out loud.

new thread? let's catch up on the unposted comments first.
How I long for clean campaigning by all candidates.  Regardless of whether it was Mr. Romney who was behind it, it's just low and dirty.  Wonder how this story will play out.
(About Seqouya inventing writing for native americans) Obviously he was a brilliant guy, but the culture itself did not come up with the idea on it’s own.

scott henderson nv (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 4:31 PM)

Guess what?  Western European culture, the one that was so 'superior' to the Native Americans, didn't come up with their own writing either!  They borrowed from Latin and Greek sources.  Guess their culture didn't come up with the idea on it's own.
Did I suddenly travel back in time to the late 1950's when everyone was worried that John F. Kennedy would be President in name only and the REAL President was going to be the Pope because JFK was Catholic? I don't care if a candidate on either side of the fence is Catholic, Mormon, Buddhist, Muslim, Druid, or sees the Blessed Virgin Mary in a cheese sandwich. It's pathetic and sad that some in this country are still concerned about someone's faith (or lack thereof) in regards to whether or not they're qualified to hold office. And, if it does turn out that Mitt's people are behind all this...[insert disguested wretch here]
This is a classical news story where everyone talks about what they don't know.

But rather then say "We don't know" they just speculate about what they don't know with a lot of "What if" to fill air time.

Why not just say "I don't know" and move on to another story? Like the 60 Americans from Laredo Tx. who had been kidnapped in Mexico, some by Police Officers, 21 still missing.
Krista-I completely agree!  Regardless of spirituality and personal beliefs-the Presidency is about being able to guide and represent the country the way it deserves to be.
I hope Mr. Romney's people weren't involved at all, but the article on TPM does raise the interesting question of why the polling place, having close ties with BYU, would degrade and downtalk the Mormon faith for an opponent; however, it doesn't make sense that they would do that at Romney's request either.
I really hope this is discussed in depth tonight.
WELL, WELL, WELL, Scott-What-Took-You-So-Long-McClellan comes clean and admits that George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Scooter Libby and Karl Rove were the “leakers” and the "liars" regarding the outing of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame!! Equally disgraceful is McClellan’s sitting in silence!! I hope he can be prosecuted for obstruction of justice; additionally, I pray Congress begins immediate impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney!! Karl Rove, I can’t wait to see you in an orange jumpsuit!! Bye bye GOP!!

WASHINGTON – “Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan blames President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for efforts to mislead the public about the role of White House aides in leaking the identity of a CIA operative.

"There was one problem. It was not true," McClellan writes, according to a brief excerpt released Monday. "I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest-ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice president, the president's chief of staff and the president himself."

NEWS HOLE - PLEASE UPDATE, POST ALL COMMENTS AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
Repugnikant stragegists using tactics invented by Karl Rove sounds fine to them except when THEY themselves are the targets.  Sounds like the rotten chickens coming home to roost.  What goes around, comes around.

I'll bet the ones crying the foul the loudest are the same ones who applauded Rove as a genius.

Guess what?  Greeks and Romans borrowed the alphabet from Minoans, who likely got it from middle-eastern types like the Babylonians and Akkadians, and there's probably an Egyptian connection in there too. But these earliest efforts were ideograms, not alphabets.  Chinese have their own separate history on this endeavor; no doubt some helpful orientalist can fill in the details.  So, only the most tentative alphabetic connection to Europeans.

Did anyone mention that Mayans had writing (ideograms)?  Last time I checked, they were considered Native Americans. Anyone going to grasp at a Chinese connection, or an Egyptian connection, to Central America?  Oh, yeah, and wampum belts can be considered a form of writing by old fashioned pre-res Native Americans.  And they apparently thought of them all by themselves, along with an elaborate system of sign language crossing multiple linguistic groups.

Even though you didn't ask.
Was it the LDS or the LSD?  Am I looking at you or are you looking at me?
The following statement has me leaning in the direction that it was Mitt's own people!! If so, it's truly disgraceful, but not surprising.  Mitt, the political acrobat, has demonstrated he will do or say ANYTHING to get elected, including selling his soul and attacking his own religion!!

2. “The fact, as you noted, that this doesn't have the appearance of a typical push poll. That this wasn't set up to influence large numbers of voters makes the notion that the goal was to create a mini-scandal and generate sympathy for a victimized Mitt a bit more plausible.”

PEACE!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "mitt" just another word for "loofah"?

And Rocky?  Who needs LSD?  After a shot of ice-9, I'll be looking inward, outward, backward, forward, any which way.
scott henderson nv (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 4:07 PM) Do you even check your facts when you post?  You tried to disprove my point by using circular and faulty logic.  Were you born a tool or did the superior neocon culture raise you that way? And you can't control nature.  Sorry bub.  Don't believe me?  Go stand in a wildfire and try to adjust the temperature.  Better yet, go to an island in the path of a hurricane and shout, 'Stop!' Let me know how that works out for you. Kevin, Lincoln, NE (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 5:50 PM)

Kevin -- This is all my fault.  All the advanced liberal tricks I tried to teach him obviously either didn’t wear off or wore off too well.

Let’s face it.  I’m just a failure as an advanced liberal.

Sarah, Tucson, AZ (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 6:15 PM) Pam Bignardi, San Pedro, California (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 6:29 PM) Thank you both for the kudos! The world is going to Hades in a hand-basket, and we're still worrying about someone's RELIGION?! Gad-zooks...
They learned to Push-Pull from Larry Craig. No wait...nevermind.
The European Culture has evolved only technologically from its' incursion on the Continent. Ethically, it has continued to be a destructive force on the Environment and on any Peoples or Person who stand in the way.

OJ. I'm OK. You're OJ. OK?
Anomaly. Don't think of it as 'failure', think of it as a 'Prolapse of Subject".  When their brains start oozing out of their ears, and the mouth releases flatulence, it is not the teachers' fault. All that is left for you to do at this point, is to suggest more fiber.
OJ. I'm OK. You're OJ. OK?
Sorry to disappoint you Sue, but Karl Rove did not invent dirty politics. Take a look back to your liberal past and you will find the origin of push polling and race baiting. Or can your eyes see through the fog of the Clintons
Hey Pam , I agreed with you years ago when McClellan was a stupid , idiotic, worthless, lying bastard of a criminal administration. What changed your mind on Mr McClellan ? LOL
Sarah (5:47 PM Post):

Unfortunately politicain equates with dishonesty, half-truths, white-lies, playing all sides, flip flopping when one thinks they can get away with it, and basically doing anything to get elected. Everything that is the opposite of how we try and teach our kids to behave. None of these stories about a particular candidate expose behaviors that most if not all other candidates would also use if they felt it would benefit their campaigns. They firmly believe they cannot win by being honest. Perhaps they are correct. The odd thing is that the American people know the candidates will be dishonest to varying degrees while seeking the Presidency, but then are somewhat disturbed and angry when the candidate carries that dishonesty with them into office. iencysa
True Article Found on the Internets:

Having already sold off all his previous positions on every important issue from choice, immigration to the minimum wage the Mitt Romney campaign is asking his supporters to sell off their past on EBay to help fund Romney's campaign. To help remind voters about all of Mitt Romney's old positions the Democratic Party listed a Mitt Romney flip-flop kit on auction at Ebay. This one of a kind, special edition Mitt Romney Flip Flop Kit includes:

* Mitt Romney's Flip Flops on issues ranging from abortion, immigration, tax cuts, the Reagan administration, gay rights, campaign finance reform, climate change, conservatism, gambling, gun control, etc.;

* A limited edition DVD of some of Romney’s more infamous flip-flops;

* Flip-Flop flash cards in the shape of flip-flops so you can study on all of Mitt Romney's various positions, courtesy of the Massachusetts Democratic Party.

* A new pair of flip-flops.

Larry Charleston, SC (Sent Wednesday, November 21, 2007 8:39 AM)

Larry, I could be wrong (according to those of your ilk 90% of us on this board usually are) but I still think the ultimate in dirty politics in our history was Aaron Burr killing Alexander Hamilton.  About the only thing it accomplished was that one of the most dangerous men of the time eliminated the other.
Sorry Immortal. Dirty politics started with the UrHagenRih, the Cave Mayor. Incumbent and Challenger, Trog and Ogrt thought nothing of clubbing voters senseless. That's why dogs were allowed to vote, too. In fact, their paw prints were neater than the muddy paws of the Dinocrats and Repaleocans, and they tended towards an Independent Streak. They always voted for the best hunter, and wouldn't sniff at a Candidate who spent any time moping at the back of the Cave. Often times a spy was used when the opponent had bones thrown, reporting back to tell the auspicious or inauspicious nature of the secretive throw. When the wheel was invented, most Cavepeople thought it would be the end of Dirty Tricks Politics, but how wrong they were, eh?
Well, I submitted a comment seven times on this blog and it still has not shown up; first time yesterday, last time before this "kind of" update!!
Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa (Sent Wednesday, November 21, 2007 4:48 PM)

Steve, your posts always make me laugh so hard I should sit on an underpad, and this one's no exception.  Thanks for reminding me I don't do so good when I get pompous!
Well, my guess is that Karl Rove is behind this whole thing.  Its got Matthews, Shuster an Keith foaming at the mouth an running with this story.  I also noticed that the MSM is not getting hooked on this.  Did you notice that the Guliani scandal is off the radar because of this story.  Diversion, sure has Karls fingerprints all over this one.
