Oprah, Barbra...Barbra, Oprah

Posted: Tuesday, November 27, 2007 1:44 PM by Countdown

First this weeks news that Oprah Winfrey would stump for Obama (after endorsing him some time ago) now comes word from the Clinton camp that they've netted another big name celebrity endorsement. It's not a surprise (Streisand has been an F.O.B. for a long time) but would you like to see an Oprah/Barbra debate? Did the Clinton Campaign time this to steal back the major celebrity endorsement headlines?  Will Celine Dion endorse Joe Biden?

Oprah has credibility and is respected for her charitable work and is a decent person.  I, for one, respect her for what she has done with her life.  I believe that she will give Obama a big boost.  Sorry Keith O, unabashed Clinton supporter, but Barbara Streisand does not have anywhere close to the credibility that Oprah has.  I believe that she will be viewed as a Hollywood loon.
Celine Dion endorsing Senator Biden??!! Talk about kicking a guy when he's down!! And, I'm very glad that the person typing the text for the BaBa photo didn't do a typo when typing "F.O.B."
Babs,

Do Hillary a favor and sit this one out.

With all apologies to anyone here who may be Baba fans, I have to post this info to cleanse the palate, so to speak. Today would have been Jimi Hendrix's birthday; he would've been 65. If he were still here, I'd pay my hard-earned money to see him every day and twice on Sunday over Baba.
Unnamed sources claim an angry James Brolin was seen leaving Malibu in his Mercedes convertible, headed for "...New Jersey...n'find the guy who called my wife a 'Loon'!" On a lighter note, more rumors say Buffy St. Marie will endorse Richardson, the Spice Girls will endorse Tony Blair, RuPaul will endorse Ron Paul, Michael Musto is leaning towards Larry Craig, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will endorse Romney, Heidi Fleiss will endorse all of them, and Payton Manning will endorse anything. Politics makes strange....just strange.
I'm not a big fan of Barbra Streisand but I seriously doubt the contention that she lacks credibility or that her endorsement will hurt Hillary Clinton. After all, her support of Bill Clinton didn't harm him. And it's certainly not as ridiculous as, say, a washed up bleached blonde "rasseling" star and a second rate martial arts actor endorsing Mike Huckabee.
I'm with Kevin on this, Oprah beats Barbara.

Keith, what color are your eyes, inquiring minds want to know.
and a second rate martial arts actor endorsing Mike Huckabee.

I found the ad with Chuck Norris rather amusing, as did Huckabee.  That is one of the things I like about Gov Huckabee, he doesn't take him self too seriously.  Barbara Streisand, Chuck Norris, well I would take Chuck.

Again, you made my day. If only the trolls had your sense of humor then I'd consider them worth reading. Another thing I like is that you make your point without showboating. Those who make every topic about themselves really get on my nerves.
I remember so clearly Barbra Streisand on television the weekend before the 2000 election on CNN. She was speaking to the country by telephone, not as an actress, but simply as a citizen. She begged the voters in the USA not to elect George W. Bush as our next president. She explained that if Bush became our president, the USA as we knew it  - would be gone forever. Of course, no one took her intelligence into consideration when she spoke. And why was that? Well, because she was from Hollywood, which is only okay if you’re a Republican. Being a Democrat from Hollywood automatically makes you a communist according to most people in this country, which is why we’re in the position we’re in today.

Barbara Streisand knows of what she speaks. Please listen to her. She is a smart woman.
Streisand, like Clinton has a core of fans, but is also a divisive personality, not likely to rope in any new undecided voters. On the other hand, Oprah is Americas treasure with a large non-political following in this country ripe for recruitment. I would much rather have Oprah in my camp.

Kevin of NJ (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 2:45 PM)

Personally I have no use for either one of them, especially Norris.
If Barbra and Oprah both retired and were never heard from again, effective immediately, this could only be regarded as a good thing.

People who let celebrities influence their votes don't deserve to vote.
Don't think it'll make much difference.  Celebrities are generally harmless persons, self-consciously earnest and with open wallets and pretended self-effacement in such situations.
I'm surprised noone has brought this up yet.

A teacher in Sudan(?) was arrested for offenses against Islam because she let her class vote on what to name their teddy bear.  They chose to name the bear Mohammed, with an landslide 20-3 vote.  The KIDS sugguested the name and the KIDS voted for that name.

Now the teacher is arrested for offending Islam, and is facing a fine, six months in prison, and the prospect of being whipped.

I can't imagine Mohammed ordering a person punished in such a way for such an act.

It's stories like this that make me remind myself that it isn't the religion, it's the zealots following it that are responsible.
Kevin in NJ- Chuck Norris!?  Give me Rick Flair, now there's an endorsment that means something.
nana. Well, it can't be about me, since I'm not endorsing anybody. I spend twenty minutes a day looking at who did what and which foot went in which mouth and I pray to my statue of St.Obvious (Groucho with a Miter), and Presto! It's all, or almost all, funny. And since I'm never in the News, it's never about me.
Also, this topic is awfully tempting to drop a Chuck Norris joke in.
I thought Streisand was dead. It took Barry Gibb (Guilty) and Neil Diamond (You Don't Bring Me Flowers) to revitalize the second half of her career.
What is she, 80 or something? Barbara Mandrell (58)would make a better pitch, but it wouldn't be for a democrat.
Kevin, NJ (2:01 PM Post): I agree with your comments about Oprah. This is a woman who has known some pretty rough times and deep pain in her life (one can see it reflected in her eyes and facial expressions at times), yet has worked very hard to be the success she has and has brought so much to so many people. I would love to sit alone with her on a beach late one evening, listening to the surf and spend the entire night just talking about life. Nothing romantic or anything like that. Just a touching of souls.
To all the Iowa caucus voters I have only this to say.

Take revenge on the media and the polling companys that interrupt your dinner to find out how you are leaning.

Mess with their minds and their formulas -- vote for Biden, Richardson, Dodd.  None of these three are divisive, all three are leaders, any of them could win.

Same thing in NH.
Kevin in NJ- Chuck Norris!?  Give me Rick Flair, now there's an endorsment that means something.
jen,il (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 3:22 PM)

Quite frankly, I don't think any of these "endorsements" are a big deal.  I think that only Oprah campaign for Obama is a big deal.  She is well liked by many people.

So now Hillary has babs and Heidi Fleiss in her corner.  Heidi is probably looking for some free White House perks in the Lincoln bedroom.  By the way, did you see she name dropped Colin Powell at a black minister meeting.  That is interesting, since he has been linked to Obama.
Hillary Clinton is the only one best able to hit the decks a running, experience counts.  Hillary already has experienced the corrupt Republican smear machine and knows how to set them aside to get the job done.  She is intelligent, formidable and experienced; so not only is she personally capable but she is also married to one of the best political advisors in the world, who like her enjoy the good will and respect from around the world.  We all deserve a President like Hillary Clinton to bring America back from the brink of delutional incompetence.  Hillary Clinton, as the next democratic candidate for President, is best possitioned to win support in all voter groups nationally.  It is not realistic to simply listen to a media that has, for the most part, sold out the American People for corporate profits.  When Hillary Clinton becomes President, all the people will injoy the great promise America has to offer, not just the select few.  God bless us all.
Carol, Long Valley NJ (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 3:34 PM)

Agreed!! I'm leaning towards Senator Biden more and more daily!!

PEACE!!
Bad news for liberals, it looks like the insurgency in Fallujah is almost over see here - http://www.michaeltotten.com/.  What will happen to the poor liberals who where were calling for surrender and claiming the war was lost?  I wonder how the elections will go next year if Iraq looks pacified?  Not good for democrats who are invested in failure.  I think we will be saying President Giuliani, not to mention maybe gain back control of the Senate. lol Pacification of Iraq is a loss for liberals.
Okay, now I'm curious!!

Keith, what color are your eyes? Please let us know!!

PEACE TO YOU SIR!!
I wonder if the Clinton campaign has video from Oprah's show early in the Iraq war when she ridiculed and silenced an anti-war member of her audience?  Candidates have to be careful when they hitch their star to a star.
As for me, I was gonna offer my endorsement to Stephen Colbert (a bit of a nerd, don't you think?) but alas. . .

Oh, what the hell.  Keith, what color are your eyes?
By the way Pam, are you Anonomous ? Krista ? Jen ?
Carol ?  It appears the liberals have cloned an idiot !
Carol and Pam
Count me in with you! I favor Biden and Dodd over the three top candidates. I wish the moderators would give more time and questions to the second tier candidates. Better yet, why not a separate debate with the second tier candidates? The American people are entitled to know more about them.
Thanks Cougar , and I do worship John C Calhoun. Quite a patriot. And yes , the shots fired on the Star of the West were on Union troops resupplying Ft Sumter. And all hell broke loose ! I am very proud of my alma mater and it's place in history.

Duty is the sublimest word in the English language , attributed to Gen Robert E Lee

Larry Charleston, SC (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 3:53 PM)

So, let me get it straight:  A true patriot is a person that supports slavery, racist and sexist voting policies, as well as supported the policy that led to the most horrifying war this country has ever known.

I also find it interesting that you take pride in the fact that the Citadel Cadets were the ones who took the first traitorous shots in the war that nearly tore this nation in half.

And if you insist on using Robert E Lee quotes...

Both sides forget that we are all Americans. I foresee that our country will pass through a terrible ordeal, a necessary expiation, perhaps, for our national sins. - General Robert E. Lee
scott, not one Iraqi should have died because of September 11th.
scott, not one American soldier should have died in Iraq because of September 11th.
Who should we blame next?
How many should die?

Don't let the facts get in the way there Scotty. I seem to remember some other windbag saying that the insurgency was "in its last throes", who was proven wrong by the facts. What I really want to know though is if you like this damned war so much why don't you and some of your other neocon buddies join up and go fight?
Stevie SLC Utah (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 4:17 PM)

Stevie - You are so right on!! I also like Senator Dodd and Governor Richardson a great deal!! That's why I say I'm "leaning towards Senator Biden"; I have not made up my mind.  These three are definitely my finalists as of now!! My favorite has always been Dennis Kucinich and I still may vote for him in the primaries; however, if it’s close and one of these three pull within a winning chance of the so-called “top tier” candidates, my vote will have to go to one of them!!

I also got a kick out of Dodd’s timer in the last debate!! I think all of the non-top-tier candidates should bring one to the remaining debates, the larger the better!!

PEACE!!

PS:  Larry and the other guy inside your head, I figured out you were Frank from Reno with your very first post under this alias so just stop!! In another post, which is too vulgar to repeat, you used the same vile word you did in a post that many of us took great offense to the first time.  The original was posted under “Larry-SC”, the second a few days later, was posted under “Frank from Reno”!! After I came to my original conclusion, I've studied each one of yours and your alias' posts!! You “both” skip a space between the end of your sentence and you exclamation points every time, in addition to many other common traits, word for word, they’re the same!! So just give it up you FRAUD!!

PEACE!!
Okay ladies(guys too if you want) join the campaign: each one of us posts the following, then drop it:

Kevin, Lincoln, NE (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 4:23 PM)

Almost right, Kevin. The neocons have expanded that definition to include those who bang the war drum the loudest while simultaneously attempting to explain why they didn't serve when called. Like Dick "Other Priorities" Cheney, George W. "AWOL from the Air National Guard Unit His Daddy Pulled Strings to Get Him Into" Bush, and a host of other right wing zealots who are the first to call for war...as long as someone else fights in it.

For all his bluster and claims that he attended The Citadel, Larry doesn't know a true patriot from a pop tart.
Ok..this is absolutely the last time I mention it, except when the urge to mention it gets to me..but..

KEITH! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHAT COLOR ARE YOUR EYES????
Scott henderson (4:03 PM Post):

If pacification and peace come to Iraq and the Iraqi people none here would want anything different. But it is amazing to me Scott how you can give credit to an administration that took years and thousands of lives (American and Iraqi) to reach this end when it could have been done in less then 3 months and at a  cost much lower in American and Iraqi lives. No, even if some semblance of peace and stability comes to Iraq, this administration will go down in history as being responsible for creating a volcano of death rather than a garden of hope. Still, yet, we all hope that peace and stability does come to Iraq, and quickly. We are all too mature and care enough about people to want anything different for political purposes.
While not a big fan of Oprah, she does great work, very generous and all that, I am a fan of Barbra Streisand for decades. Although celebrities do vote, they have a right to come out for their candidate, I don't think they should get too involved in the campaign of anyone. They would do better by reminding people how important it is to vote. Getting out the vote, so to speak, without endorsing any one candidate. That's just my opinion.
“Don't let the facts get in the way there Scotty.”

Samuel, Lincoln, NE (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 4:31 PM)

What facts do you have sammy, that suggests Iraq is not going in the right direction?   You like to spout stuff but cannot support what you spout, typical of a little liberal.
A "true right wing patriot" is some one who wraps themselves in the flag, while sending our troops into harms way without all the equipment they need.

Next, the "true right wing patriot" has to cut VA funding and ask disabled vets for their signing bonus back.

Next, the "true right wing patriot" calls soldiers who disagree with them "phony soldiers", but they refuse to enlist and fight the wars that they cheer for.

Lastly, the "true right wing patriot" calls any one who doesn't agree with them a 'librul' commie, pinko traiter who supports "terrists".

There will be a special place in he11 for all "true right wing patriots" where they can play their war games all day long -- with each other.
For all his bluster and claims that he attended The Citadel, Larry doesn't know a true patriot from a pop tart.
Samuel, Lincoln, NE (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 4:39 PM)

LOL!! Neither does his alias and only friend, the one who shares his brain, Frank from Reno!!

Also, we can't forget Rush-I-Have-Cysts-On-My-Ass-Limbaugh; Bill-The-Coward-O'Reilly; Sean-Way-Too-Busy-Hannity; or Seven-Deferment John Ashcroft, he had "other priorities" too!!

Yeah, all the pro-Iraq War groupies either had "other priorities” or cysts on their ass!!

GREAT POST & PEACE!!

scott henderson nv (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 4:03 PM)

Two things:

1.)  If things are so great now, why are our troops still there?  Oh wait, we have to be over there to secure our oil interests and perpetually feed our young men and women into the wood chipper so no-bid contractors can make money.

2.)  If it's so safe, why are American soldiers still dying?  Hmm?  Hmm?  Is the 'Surge' fatally flawed, logically?  We'll stop the wood chipper from chewing up more men by clogging it with even more men!  Sounds like Zap Brannigan is in charge of our troops.
scott henderson-'pacification of Iraq is a loss for liberals'.  Way to set the bar abismally low.  Okay they are "pacified", can we stop spending all our money there and bring our troops home now or are we just suppose to continue throwing good money after bad and using our military to police another country.
I still assert that the President (and any President in the future) should lead any war effort from the front line.  Being physically and mortally responsible for your decisions tends to make people a LOT more conservative with their war declarations.

It's one thing to tell soldiers to go to war on a whim.  It's something else entirely to be right there with them, hearing people scream and die.
To the News Hole moderator,

Thank you, you are doing a fine job today, the regulars here appreciate it.  I'm only missing one or two posts, but the best ones made it through.

And if you could sneak in a mention of the color of Keith's eyes, many of us would be grateful.

Lastly, have you read any of Larry's posts?  I think that he's gone off the deep end.  Take a look at some of the posts that he's directed at Pam, and judge for yourself.

Have a good show, and an event free evening.
Hi Pam, Hi Laura, Hi Carol.  Did anyone see the article on huffpost by Dan Abrams.  It's about that POS Rove's interview with Charlie Rose.  In the interview, he basically blames the Democratic lead congress for the war in Iraq.  Can you believe this guy?  What a piece of s*#t!

Kevin, Lincoln, NE (Sent Tuesday, November 27, 2007 4:23 PM)

Amen, Kevin.  Hopefully we come through this latest ordeal by fire stronger as we did before.  But Larry and I were, believe it or not, exchanging a very low and foolish sort of southern in-joke.  Not to mention that history can be a whore--it reflects the biases of whoever is doing the interpretation.  I come from a state that still admires Andrew Jackson, who wasn't exactly a paragon of humanitarian virtues, either.  But I'd rather we respect the earnest, if misguided, figures in our past who did what they did out of principle than blindly follow those who act out of corporate interests--and we have more than our share of those.
My eyes are deep blue what color are yours Keith?
