Radio Daze: Nobody in either campaign actually said this...But if you listened carefully, you could almost hear it. "The settlement of the radio problem, which has now been achieved, is, in my view, only the prelude to a larger settlement in which all campaigners may find peace. This morning I had another talk with the other campaign chairman, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine.  Some of you, perhaps, have already heard what it contains but I would just like to read it to you... I believe it is peace for our time." Our fifth story on the Countdown: the great truce of South Carolina: the Obama campaign dropping a new radio commercial blasting Clinton, right after the Clinton dropped a new radio commercial blasting Obama.

Is McCain the One to Beat?John Edwards claims that John McCain is the Republican to beat in a national election, starting to ring true. Even if, in our fourth story on Countdown, Edwards himself isn't actually in a position to be the one to beat him.

ODDBALL: Loch Ness Monster appears in Japan, minty socks debut in Japan, and some cows get funky on parade.

The FISA VetoThe delayed showdown over immunity for telecommunications companies accused of helping President Bush wiretap Americans flared up again today... leading to the prospect of classic, all-night filibusters in the Senate. In our third story tonight, the real issue... Mr. Bush's intention to stop the telecom lawsuits from revealing exactly what his administration was doing in the dark before his warrant-less, and therefore extra-constitutional, wiretaps, were revealed.

Tabby Time: As his parents fly to New York, and funeral arrangements are finalized, there are new details tonight about exactly what happened when Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment Tuesday afternoon. That begins our 80 seconds of celebrity news.

WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD: Neil Cavuto, Billo and Bill Donahue vie for tonight's top honor.

The Great Debate:  We are just minutes away from the Republican Presidential Candidates debate at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton... moderated by our own Brian Willams, joined by Tim Russert. It is the last face-off before Florida's primary five days from now...  And if one of the Republican contenders set up Florida as a do or die state, on purpose, and to his apparent detriment...All of them may now find their candidacies grasping for a victory there. Our number one story on the Countdown: the Sunshine State showdown.

#5 -- Radio Daze is right.  I’m dazed by the whole thing.  Maybe an orange Giuliani would help.  This might be the last week I can get one of those.  (Please.)

Big Keith number in South Carolina?  Countdown, I still want to know who won Nevada.

A perception that something is amiss?  Perception?  Try clear evidence.  In fact, take a deep breath and try an orange Giuliani.  Improves your perception, for sure.

Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton?  For heaven’s sake, they finally declared a truce.  Give peace a chance, okay?
#4 -- National polls?  KNs?  Countdown, let’s review.  It’s JANUARY.  The election is in NOVEMBER.  Poll astrology?  Now we’re talking my language.  No predictive value, for sure.  Bill Clinton as Bob Dole version 2.008?  Are you serious?  No.

Bushed!  Special appearance by Dana Perino?  Sweet.  Scoffing at the lies scandal?  That’s what the Witch King told her to do, Countdown. Talk about getting into  someone’s head.  Psssstttt.

Monster madness?   So that’s where the Witch King’s steed went.  Minty footwear?  You should try it with that minty fresh tie, Countdown.  Maybe for South Carolina.  Sweet.
#3 -- Friday Night FISA Fight.  REAL political theatre.  It doesn’t make sense to paint the democrats weak on defense?  What’s your evidence for that?  You’d better be right that the world won’t blow up, Mr. Fineman.

Keeping Tabs -- boycotting until George Clooney (oscar winner), Denzel Washington (oscar winner), or Clive Owen (just plain cute) appears, preferably all together.  Just kidding, Countdown.  You’ll do just fine.  That green tie just … works.

WPitW -- Billo????  Only bronze????  Bronze Age, you mean.

#1 -- Rudy. Rudy. Rudy.  I’m with you, Rudy Slippers.  I need you out here.  Take a deep breath, drink an orange Giuliani, adjust your rouge and eye-liner, and go get ‘em. Wait -- late update. The shark machinery must not be not working tonight.  Going down ugly, for sure.
C A -

I knew I wasn't crazy, according to Keith’s reporting tonight on Countdown of the most recent polling, Hillary Clinton beats McCain 46% to 42% and McCain beats Obama 40% to 39%.

I didn't think I heard it wrong --although this poll is a four percent lead for Clinton versus the six percent according to LA Times/Politico that was aired on radio today; however the one percent showing Obama losing to McCain was accurate. Again, after NH, we all know what polls can mean; however, I wanted to make sure no one thought I was being dishonest or “spinning” anything—not you  C A!!

PEACE FRIEND!!
Kudos Senator Dodd; it’s a shame the media didn’t give you the attention you deserved; thank you for fighting for our rights against George W. Bush and the telephone companies who illegally spied on us sir!!

Also, the last truly honest candidate, Dennis Kucinich, has just dropped out of the race today for the same despicable reason –no media attention because he’s not “pretty enough”!!

Come my Primary in California in two weeks, Dennis Kucinich will still be on the ballot; they’ve already been printed and absentee ballots have already been cast –I’m still voting for this honorable man!! Senator Dodd –you just may get my write in come November if Clinton and Obama don’t stop their idiocy and madness!!

DISGUSTED!!
Thank you Keith for showing both Senators Clinton and Obama have run negative ads; thank you for reporting BOTH pulled these negative ads; thank you for being fair!!

I appreciate this; I'm quite frankly fed up with "it's all Hillary Clinton's fault" --thank you for your honesty and fairness in reporting!! I have tried to be fair in searching out all facts and as much information as I can from many, many sources; that is why I am equally disgusted with BOTH Senators Clinton and Obama!!

PEACE & GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK!!
The Democrats are Neville Chamberlin now?! Or, was that quote from Nixon? Either way, EEEeeeeeewwwwwwWWWww! Senators Clinton and Obama WILL NOT run together. Whoever ends up with the nomination will have to choose a VP nominee that will be agreeable to the greatest number of people and, perhaps, a "more conservative" Democrat from a "red" state - not that I have anyone specific in mind ;). Besides, I don’t see Mr. Bill going for a Clinton/Obama ticket in any way, shape, or form.

Too many polls! My brain is breaking!! What if you’re like me and don’t give a crap about polls or astrology?

Maybe I’ll write in Senator Dodd on my ballot.

“He Who Shall Not Be Named” is ragging on my fellow “Hoosier,” David Letterman?! THAT’S IT! I’ll gladly accept contributions for my flights to New York City to leave flaming bags of dog logs on “its” doorstep! Bring on FAUX “security”! I’ll fight ‘em with my eyes closed! I’ll fight ‘em standing on one foot!! I’ll fight ‘em with one paw tied behind my back!!!

Catch y'all later!
Huh.  With that thing about dismantling the IRS, does this mean that Huckleberry and Paul will be running as a ticket and Stephen Colbert, the man who would be Huckleberry's VP, is out in the cold again?

Man, that's brutal.
Ah, the Clintons finally crack under pressure:..."

tired, everywhere, USA (Sent Thursday, January 24, 2008 6:40 PM)

No, the Clintons know you can't un-ring a bell.  This is one of their trial balloons. Run this up the flag, see who salutes, pull it down, re-jigger it, run it up again...

As has been pointed out by other, wiser heads here, Clintons have been playing to the nation from SC; the rest have been playing to SC while the nation watches. An important distinction.
Hey, Anna Molly, Rudy Slippers seems to think January 29 it's Florida, tomorrow the world--

Wonder which designer will do his inaugural ball gown?
Romney does not disappoint--he's following the exclusivist GOP party line, gonna appeal to fiscal conservatives, social conservatives, crackpot conservatives, and that's gonna keep the country strong--

I don't fit into any of those categories.  I feel like a woman without a country.
The Republican's debating tonight are making the Democrats from the other night look like a bunch of little school kids.  The other night was an emabarrassment for the Democrats and showed how they will lose big in November.

Keith's obsession with Bill O'Reilly is pathetic.

"Did [MLK} plagiarize most of his writings? He plagiarized a lot of them. An investigation conducted by Boston University, where King got his Ph.D. in theology, determined that he had appropriated roughly a third of his doctoral thesis from a dissertation written three years earlier by another graduate student. Curiously, the same faculty member had been "first reader" of both theses, leading some to wonder whether King's faculty advisers at BU were incompetent or just guilty white liberals who gave a promising young black leader a pass. King also "borrowed" portions of many other writings and speeches, including the famous "I have a dream" speech he gave at the 1963 civil rights rally in Washington.

Also, if you're in a mood for reading,

Lots of crazy racist wingnut stuff out there too-- proceed with caution and assess the sources before buying into anything.
Wonder which designer will do his inaugural ball gown?  Mollie M. (Sent Thursday, January 24, 2008 10:09 PM)

I don’t think we’re going to have to worry about it, but I favor Vera Wang, myself.  Totally Rudy.  Hand embroidered, with seed pearls at the neckline, and a deep-V in the back anchored by a large taffeta bow.  A color to match his Rudy slippers (not to mention his rouge) and preferably tea length so he can wear it on other occasions when he goes back to private life.

But in all seriousness (and I turned it off about half an hour ago), he looked pretty good tonight.  Sounded just like Rudy but looked pretty good.  Governor Mitt was a vision in blue, but I personally thought that Baby Bear was stealing the show.
Whoa !

Who whispered a cue to Mitt Romney during the GOP debate tonight ?????

tim Russert asked Romney if he would do what Reagan did in '83 to deal with Social Security.

Someone whispered, "[he] raised taxes".

Romney then began his answer with, "I'm not going to raise taxes".

That was weird ! ! !
GOOD NEWS, GUYS

comes from Publicans, Conservs & Neo-Cons.  First, HRC is not electable w/ 50% of voters against her to begin with.  Of course, Obama is a MUSLIM:  our enemy; and, according to the babe w/ brains Ann Coulter (an illiteration w/ a special spelling, an original by moi), Edwards has sexual orientation issues.  Rush was preaching to the choir about NO to that Rino McCain and The Huckster.

That leaves Mitt & Rudy for Pres. & VP!!!

Don't laugh too hard, for I am not responsible for any injuries related to your uncontrolled laughter.
"But Bush will not be impeached and thanks to him as well as the spineless Dems future Presdients will be given the green light to lie and to deceive at will. No President, Dem or Republican, should be able to lie and deceive the Amercian people without a real and swift threat of impeachment hanging over their heads and that history can show has been carried out. Unfortunately our history is going to show just the opposite."
C A, Tuscaloosa, AL (Sent Thursday, January 24, 2008 8:58 AM)

Well, C, you're getting better but you still ain't running with the big dogs. (And some of those ideas you're spinning to Annie sound mighty familiar.) The Clinton impeachment utterly debased the whole notion of impeachment; as a consequence any attempt to impeach at this point will inevitably be spun as payback, just as Watergate was spun as "payback" for the McCarthy hearings etc.

Sorry I haven't been around much today, but I made the mistake of re-reading your "C A, Tuscaloosa, AL (Sent Wednesday, January 23, 2008 5:36 PM)" and I rolled my eyes so hard one of them got stuck. I was in the emergency room for about 12 hrs. and I'm just now getting caught up.  And I'm still waiting for a response.
All right, while I’m still up, just a couple of thoughts about the debate -- Don’t you just LOVE politics, especially live politics?

Governor Baby Bear -- Not only looked good, but talked pretty on the economy.  Most of the economic talk was blah, blah, blah republicanism, but Huckabee talked about how the relief measure that passed would only result in money leaving the country for China, and a better idea would have been to work on infrastructure -- create jobs and stimulate growth that way.  If I’m not mistaken, he’s sounding a lot like FDR.  Can he spell W-P-A?

Governor Mitt -- (I lost track of the medals) -- He said that he has economy in his DNA.  Can he spell D-N-A?  I say that accounts for a lot.  His economic plan was to “reign in entitlements.”  Aha.  Now we come to it, Governor.  Take it away from the poor so you can fund those tax cuts for the rich.  The trickle up theory in action.  (Baby Bear actually mentioned trickle up, by the way.)

Senator McCain -- Looking very alert tonight -- On the war, same old, same old.  Stay forever.  Leave Iraq never.  Who cares what it costs?  Can he spell S-T-A-Y?  But, he did say one thing of note -- Senator Clinton will wave the white flag of surrender.  Ooops. Look out, Senator McCain.  Eli’s not coming.  Bill is coming.

Mayor Rudy -- He said he did it in New York, he can do it for the country.  I say, no thanks, and I’m not planning to spell it.  If I want to see it, I’ll rent the DVD.

After that, my courage gave out for the evening.

goodnight gracie
Bye, Keith, it was good to know you. But I can't put up with you joing the rest of the lemmings in falling in love with Obama and giving Bill Clinton a hard time. Obama is dead wrong. We will not vote for him even if he is the nominee.
Keith's obsession with Bill O'Reilly is pathetic.  Mark, AZ (Sent Thursday, January 24, 2008 10:16 PM)

Oh, yeah?  If you think HIS obsession with Billo is pathetic, you should see mine.  (Hi Mark, how have you been?)
Regarding the Republican candidate debate this evening in Boca Raton.....All I want to know is this -- who whispered the answer to Mitt Romney when he responded to a Tim Russert question and said he would not raise taxes? A voice "prompting" him with the answer was clearly heard at our house.......We even re-ran the clip to be sure, and yep, there it was again. Sounded like someone was hiding inside the lecturn, or under the flooring???

I actually like Bill O'Reilly and the fact he is killing Olberman in ratings is driving him crazy.
Big Keith number in South Carolina?  Countdown, I still want to know who won Nevada.

Anna Molly (: (Sent Thursday, January 24, 2008 9:01 PM)

In Nevada, the Dems voted for Delegates to vote for the delegates who will go to the Convention, and the Delegates don't have to Vote for the Candidate that they represent.

Who won in Nevada? Wait till April to find out.

Are you confused yet? If so, that's what the Politicos want.
Now that Kucinich is resigning, the corporate-controlled media can further focus its efforts to blackout certain candidates.

You're next, Ron Paul. MSNBC essentially ignored you during their debate tonight. I thought I was watching the Mitt Romney show. What a disgrace.

I'm done with this network, this website, everything to do with MSNBC. Clearly we are shouting into the dark on this blog. Posting here is a complete waste of time, and watching MSNBC only gets you a fraction of news that truly matters. Nothing ever changes!

MSNBC continuously shovels either the same pointless bickering (Olbermann v. O'Reilly, Obama v. Hillary, left v. right, liberal v. conservative) or some program that hypes up the prison-industrial complex. It's all a bunch of distractions and nonsense.

Farewell all my kind, free-thinking friends here. I'm taking my words and my frustration to the streets, to truly connect with the people and exchange real, meaningful information. Hope to see you out there...
Has it occurred to anyone that while Clinton and Obama are making a furor, no one is paying attention to Edwards?  This could be deliberate.

This advertising tactic worked very well a number of years ago for Avis Car Rental with a slogan, "We're number two; we try harder."  Their objective was not to knock Hertz out of the number one spot, but to make everyone forget all about National, and all the other car rentals besides Hertz and Avis.  It was very successful in that effort.

We need to hear what Edwards has to say.  He seems to be the grown up in the group.
#1.It doesn't really matter. The Voting Machines will all declare Dubya the winner, and voters will be given a stub with a notice that the 22nd Amendment has been suspended. #2. Polypharmacy. That's when you wake up forgetting if you took what combination that was going to put you to sleep, and take it again, for the fourth time. #3. Dubya and all them CEO-types, need Immunizin'. Know why? Texas Simple. They's just too dad-gummed Pretty to go to Prison. Know what Prisoners call Prison? Gladiator School. If they don't get some Immunizin', they could all end up in "Prison Romance" Magazine! #4. It's McCain's turn in the Barrel. #5. They're realizing they better save their poison for the main event.

David, David, David.  You’ve known me long enough to know I’m always confused, and if something isn’t confused when I get hold of it, it will be when I’m finished.  But who won Nevada?
Mark, AZ (Sent Thursday, January 24, 2008 11:31 PM)

Which is exactly the part I like because it’s the part that drives him and makes him keep the Bigheaded Billo cutout in his office window.  Looking out for the Factor Folks at Fox, you know.  I always feel safe and secure, really, knowing that Clark Kent is in the house.

I don't consider myself in the SLIGHTEST wiser than you Mo; actually, I am in awe of your brilliance and your wit; however, I did post here that Senator Clintona was playing to the national stage in Monday night's debate and Senator Obama was playing to South Carolina --that's exactly what happened and I completely agree with your analysis --it's spot on!!

People may dislike Hillary Clinton and/or former President Bill Clinton; however, no one can take away the genius Bill Clinton possesses!! And no one can accuse him of stealing anyone's brain!!

PEACE FRIEND!!

I am not currently supporting Senator Obama in the democratic primary; however, Keith Olbermann has in no way, shape or form spun anything against Senator Obama --he has not spun anything in favor of Senator Clinton --there was one "bad" night right before New Hampshire that I was a bit unhappy with a comment about attire --however, Keith has been THE fairest of all in the MSM!! Many here of also accused him of being biased towards Hillary Clinton; I don't believe that either; there are times when the truth hurts; Senator Clinton has done things wrong as has Senator Obama --it is up to Keith to report honestly --whether it is directed at the candidate we support --I wouldn’t want it any other way!!

I commend him for pointing out that both Senators Clinton and Obama ran negative ads and pulled them; although some here only pointed to Clinton's as; I commend Keith for questioning the sanity of both Senators Clinton and Obama --they are BOTH acting foolish and they are both destroying not only their personal goals, my blowing a "no brainer" election where ANY democrat should win!!

Keith is fair, which is why I turn of MSNBC the moment Chris Matthews comes on --now he is the epitome of what you have just described in Keith in my opinion.  Please, it's a stressful time for everyone; give it another watch!!

PEACE!!

We count on you, Keith, for intelligent programing. You are fanning the flames of race/political divide & reporting on a Paris Hilton style.  Jim & I, who respect you so much are about to stop watching.

PLEASE . . . there is a war on that Bush has turned off from public view and he will probably unveil it a few months before the election as "WOW!  "Look how stable Afganistan & Iraq are!"  There will not be time to check out:  Did Bush let the most ruthless take over areas just to have it "seem" stabilized?  Or, are present alliances very temporary and likely to totally fraction at any time?  Do we send troops to Pakistan?  Have a long-term treaty for permanent bases in Iraq without Congressional approval as Bush believes is his right.  He will use the ole political trick:  "TO LOOK GOOD IS WHAT COUNTS"

PLEASEEE . . . Let's see the "Countdown" we remember & miss so much.

here's the averages of the Polls, BOTH Clinton AND Obama LOSE to JOHN McCAIN (Clinton loses by more (slightly) than Obama. BTW, John Edwards loses as well) All this is before the republican attack machine is even in full gear:

WRONG!!

Well I guess Keith's reporting of the national polls tonight proves me correct and you wrong --quite frankly, I'm "tired of your lies" --and spin and spin and spin!!

The one difference between the Republicans and the Democrats during these debates is that the Republican's make sense on the issues. The radical liberal ideaology of the Democratic Party is pretty scary.
Long time viewer, first time poster.  Where's the rest of the show?  Radio Daze?  The Great Debate?  I am a Bush refugee, living in New Zealand, and I count on Countdown (and "A Daily Show") to give me the skinny on what is really going on in the US and A.  We get Fixed News down here but not MSNBC, so this site is my only hope of seeing the show.  Please post the other segments.  Thanks.

Oh, and Keith, God bless you and keep you from harm.  Good night and good luck, from way down under, BANG!
Keith, I love the show, now more than ever, since NBC finally found the juevos to let you do your own thing.  But, why do you persist in towing the MSM line in saying that Bush was "re-elected?"  The most fair call of 2000 is that it was a statistical tie, well within the margin of error of our terribly flawed system of vote counting, but if one wishes to focus on Florida, a statewide recount would have given the Presidency to Al Gore.  On top of that, any serious look at Ohio and the exit polls in 2004 will show that Bush stole that election as well.  In a time when the reporting of political polls is taking a beating (and deservedly so, when it comes to pre-election polling in NH), one needs to keep in mind that exit polls are extremely accurate and are used to world over to evaluate the legitimacy of the final vote count.  Everywhere, is seems, but in the country touting itself as the world's greatest democracy.  Real election reform will not occur until you (Keith) and your distant relatives in the MSM shine a light on the electoral funny business that has marked the last two presidential elections.  The vote and the news media are the only things standing between the American people and tyranny.  One, it appears, is gone.  As a part of the second, it is your duty to hold the government to account.  Please stop upholding the faux legitimacy of the Bush presidency.  (George Carlin has it right; call Bush "Govenor Bush," since that was the last office to which he was elected.) Bush wasn't elected, and there is overwhelming evidence that he wasn't re-elected, either...
With our Super Tuesday looming, I will be glued to the TV for as long as it takes to see who CA chose.

Billo..ranting on Letterman! Now he's gone toooo far! Don't say anything bad about my Letterman..he's cool. David will have a wonderful comeback for this idiot.

I wish Mr. Dodd all good wishes with his fight on the Hill. Give 'em hell Harry!

and..I find Keith's imitiation of Dana Perino just what I need to cheer me up. In fact, he does a pretty good Coultergeist too.

One of the greatest things about the american spirit comes from the countries academics and reporters.(artists too) I travel in and out of the country alot and it gives a different perspective.....and I can't help but think that Obama's white house administration will encourage more transparency....with discretion used for national security issues....

But if you think emails and videos are missing now.....well the Clintons will do no better.  I don't agree all the time with every reporter but I love listening to intelligent reporters, it inspires research and perspective while traveling. The Clintons won't let reporters in....they don't want truth reported.....thats alot like Bush.

Obama appears to me to be someone that will want to actually HEAR people even if they don't agree with him.....I don't know who Anna Molly is but I like reading her blogs also. You don't have to display this its just a message to say I appreciate your show and the other reporters on MSNBC thanks
Concerning Billo's ratings:

1) There's no more room to climb when you reach the
  top.

2) KO's numbers are sure to rise. No one sits in the
  basement forever.

3) Billo will eventually fall from the top. Everyone
has their run. Billo has been #1 for 7 years now.
There's no down side yet. If KO ever makes it to
#1 will he hold it for at least 7 years? Looking
at the big picture, Billo has already won the
ratings game, no matter what the future holds.
And it's not just O'Reilly, it's FOX NEWS in
general ... #1. End of story.

4) All you anti-O'Reilly slugs repeat after me;
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things
I cannot change, courage to change the things
I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

5) Look at the bright side. In 100 years no one will
have even heard of O'Reilly, Olbermann, etc., but
fortunately or unfortunately the names of George
Walker Bush and William Jefferson Clinton will
  be remembered through out history.

They may be right or they may be wrong. Do you have an issue with one of my opinions? Do I need to change it in order to satsify your expectations of people? Or can I maintain my opinions (even though they may not agree with yours) but expect some respect for the same as I would expect myself to respect yours. Hope your eyes did not roll too much Mo. You'd have to wait until April to find out who really won Nevada. That's when the Democratic Delegates that were elected will Vote for which Delegates go to the Convention. They could Vote all Clinton, all Obama,  split it as they see fit, or (I highly doubt it) could even Vote all Romney if they so wished.
