Extree Countdown Tonight!

Posted: Thursday, January 31, 2008 11:38 AM by Countdown

Keith fans, you're in for a doozie tonight.  Not only willl we have our traditional, super-awesome Countdown show at 8et, but we will also do a special post-debate coverage Countdown at 10pm (after Senator Clinton and Obama duke it out on CNN).  Then at 11et, we'll do an updated version of the 10 o'clock show and at midnight it's back to the original Countdown re-broadcast.  It's almost wall to wall Countdown (with a little Dan Abrams goodness sprinkled in) so cancel your plans, put the kids to bed early and make a fatty sandwich...this is going to be good.

Dear Mr. Attorney General:

A quick disclaimer: I am a left-wing Democrat, but this e-mail is not intended to be a partisan attack.

Last Friday, I was outraged when Keith Olberman suggested on MSNBC that your having portraits of George Orwell and Mr. Justice Jackson in your office somehow made you a supporter of the Big Brother state.  I wrote on Olberman's blog that you should be commended for honoring two of the most upright men of the last century, and asked if having a picture of Ray Bradbury would make you a supporter of burning books.

If I had your job, I'd feel fine about having pictures of Orwell and Jackson, along with George Seldes and Smedley Butler.

Now I read your latest comments on waterboarding, that you think it's torture, or it would be if someone did it to you, but it isn't, necessarily, because it's not spelled out as such, in so many words, so it's OK to keep doing it, as long as we don't do it much, or don't get caught, or....that's where I got completely lost.

How can an admirer of George Orwell say these words?  You said it is torture, unless we can find some perspective from which to say it might not be, which lets us keep doing it.

That, sir, is the very essence of Doublespeak.  We expect it from such as Jeff Sessions, but not from a man who sits beneath a picture of George Orwell.

Sincerely,

Bill Cleere

Okay Keith you were right I was wrong on what I posted a couple of days ago.
so glad to see return of light blue shirt and dark blu tie there Keith  great look.

Thanks for having Edwards on so many times recently, sad to see him leave the race, and I already voted by mail, sigh
Thank you Keith; I am looking forward to it!! For you have been the voice of honesty throughout our long national nightmare; you have been the voice I have turned to during moments of anger and tears; for that, I will always love you and be a devoted and loyal fan!! You have made me proud!!

GOOD LUCK SIR!!
Let's see, what are just a few of the topics Keith Olbermann has been way ahead of the rest of the country on?

^ The Iraq War
^ Torture
^ Attorney General Gonzales
^ Warrantless Wire Tapping
^ Rudy Giuliani
^ The War on Terror
^ Yellow Cake
^ Shredding of the Constitution
^ Fox News and their cast of propaganda characters
^ Rush Limbaugh
^ John McCain
^ George Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Condi Rice and the entire Bush Administration on their deceit and lies over and over to the American people.

Thanks Keith.
Geez, I better get home early, feed the cats, and get that popcorn ready..it's going to be a hell of a night!
Adelaide, CA 12:22 PM..so good to see you back!
"It's almost wall-to-wall Countdown, with a little Dan Abrams."

Keith - I think tonight's show might be too much Olbermann as even a little of you goes a long way.
Keep in mind that the MSNBC TV viewing screen covers your entire face from hair to chin. That's a scary shot. Makes me think you're gonna bump your head on the viewing glass if you lean forward.

And now Dan Abrams is "sprinkled in." Don't make me wish for Chris Mathews. And by the way, is he getting a "what not to say on TV" makeover by the NBC execs regarding Hillary?

Not to worry, KO, "HELP!" is on the way. Available in DVD at local stores. George Harrison singing "I Need You" while tanks are firng rounds in an open field is a hoot.

newshole update this blog please
In the words of the late great Harry Carey, "Holy Cow!" (minus the big cup of Scotch - Harry was a "Bud man" in name only) All Keith all the time! Well, I can guarn-damn-tee that the "Special Comment" will not be missed, and I'll get through as much of the 10:00 "debate" analysis as I can, but the 11:00 may be a bit much. Some of us gotta get up with the chickens and go to work, ya' know! ;) And, check local listings, the Indianapolis area is in for a "fun" winter storm tonight and through tomorrow (lots of sleet, freezing rain, about 6 inches of snow, etc.), so, if y'all are praying types, shoot some of that my way getting home tonight from my class and getting my arse to work in the morning.
I'm starting to get under the assumption that CNN can't moderate debate to save their skins. Keith got to herd the Democratic cats at "balmy" Soldier Field this past summer; I think it would be high entertainment if he had a chance at the Republicans! What say you all? ;)
Is everybody blind!!!! if you look at the picture of Hillary Clinton extending her hand she's LOOKING at Ted Kennedy NOT Barack Obama. or maby she's CROSSEYED.
So much Keith in so little time.  A special comment and debate coverage of two excellent democratic candidates. Somedays it's awesome to be a liberal.
Krista: Keith moderating the R's debate would certainly be entertaining and informative. So long as he gets to make up the questions. How much fun could that be!
BTW I am presently reading Gonzo! It's an interesting read for sure. I think the Bush/Cheney criminal cabal should get the punishment that the good doctor recommended for Charles Colson.!
Full Moon (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 12:43 PM)

Please Full Moon, NEVER Chris Matthews!! YIKES!!

PEACE!!
Krista-just southwest of Chi-town here and the snow has been steady since this morning.  Looks like it is going to be a doozy of a storm.

Full Moon-I thought it was just me wondering about Tweety's about face on Hillary.  Must be taking a hit in the ratings for him to transform his sexist ways.
Q) What do Kieth Olbermann and Rush Limbaugh have in common?

A) They are Both Partisan News Commentators. (Only Rush is Honest about it)

Q) What's the Biggest Difference between their Shows?

A) Rush Allows people who Disagree with him on, even gives them more Air Time. Keith's Show is nothing more then an Echo Chamber with Like-Minded People on.

Summation: Keith Hides behind the Title Journalist(Even tho he's a News Commentator) and doesn't have enough faith in his Opinions to have them Challenged. Therefore, Rush (In my Opinion) is more Honest then Keith.

Q) How am I Wrong?
I hope he has Joe Scarbourgh on as a guest again so he can repeat what he said a couple nights ago.  That if John McCain is our next president we can expect fewer jobs and more war.  I hope the DNC has tape it will make a great campaign commercial.

Carter praises Obama, stops short of endorsement

"I think that Obama will be almost automatically a healing factor in the animosity now and the distrust that relates to our country and its government," said Carter, 83, who was president from 1977-1981.

Pat, Boston, MA 12:31 PM..thanks Pat for that list. That is why I watch Keith..no one else. He is always ahead of the talking heads on important issues. And his delivery of these issues is what keeps my attention, for it tells me he is honest in his feelings.
I hope the DNC has tape it will make a great campaign commercial.
jen,il (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 1:55 PM)

Wow; I had not heard that jen; thank you!!

PEACE!!
Krista 1:07 PM..prayers you got Krista. Be very careful! and to all bloggers here trying to get through foul weather, my prayers and best wishes as well.
jen,il (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 1:30 PM)

jen – It’s always awesome to be a liberal.  Tonight is just the gravy.  Four hours of politics.  Be still my liberal heart.
Keith; Although I'm a big fan of you and Countdown, I think you are completely wrong in your opposition to telecom immunity. Opening the telecoms up to multi-billion dollar lawsuits is only going to hurt those companies' employees, shareholders and customers, as well as the U. S. economy and all U. S. taxpayers. If laws were broken, then you should be going after the Bush Administration members that broke them and the Congressional leaders that allowed it, instead of scapegoating American companies that were assured by the Administration & believed they were doing their patriotic duty in a time of terrorists-induced crises.

Bill Rochester NY (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 1:36 PM) Hi! Are you reading actual Hunter S. Thompson stuff or the new bio by Jann Wenner? I'm currently wading through that (one of the 4 books I'm reading these days). The new bio's a big 'ol thick thing, so it'll probably take awhile. He's just written the Hell's Angels book at the point in the bio where I'm at.

Do you think the GOP would have the cojones to actually let Keith come up with the questions? ;)

You, sir, are in a "Super Tuesday" state, and I'm confident that you've educated yourself on your candidate choices and will not take your responsibility lightly. Thank you!
Krista 1:10 PM..oooh..that would be fabulous! I'd love to see that.
Dave Molinero 1:54 P.M. post. How are you wrong?
In more ways than you know.
The few times I've caught Rush on air he only took calls from his dittoheads.
When Keith has a factual error or makes a mistake on air a correction is sure to follow.
No one absolutely no one has ever accused Rush Limbaugh as being the most honest man in news.
Whenever Rush gets called on his propaganda he stands by it like it was gospel. Even when sentient beings (this excludes all dittoheads) of all stripes know what he says just isn't so.
To my knowledge K.O. doesn't have a maid, let alone one that scores illegal pills for him.
I hope you found this enlightening.
jen,il Thursday, January 31, 2008 1:30 PM So much Keith in so little time. A special comment and debate coverage of two excellent democratic candidates. Somedays it's awesome to be a liberal.

I'm with you jen. This should be quit an evening.
David Molinero (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 1:54 PM)

One of them has journalism creditials (it ain't RusH), and the Right Wing Media need some one to counter their BS.

The Right Wing Media don't pretend to be fair, or balanced, and yet demand that the "Main Stream" media, what little of that is left, present both sides.

Countdown is devoted to balancing Fox News.
I thought the topic was the Debate, not a Doctor Shopping Media Chub. But then, we are in the Free Association Millenia, aren't we?
Bill Rochester NY (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 2:30 PM)

1) You had just ammitted that you don't listen to Rush, at lest very often. I'm listening to Rush as I write this.

He had Several People on who disagreed with him today.

2) Rush Himself amitts that he was wrong concerning his Drug Habbit (By which you seem to define him) which left him exposed for various misfourtunes.

3) You didn't say a thing about my Point, that Both Rush and Keith are News Commentators, and Only Rush has People on who disagree with him. Rush will tell you that he's a News Commentator, but Keith hide behind the Title of Journalist, which he isn't on Countdown. And he Only has on Like-Minded People on as he doesn't have Enough Faith in his own Opinion to have them Challanged on Air.

Where am I Wrong?
To David Molinero: Your premise is wrong. Rush rarely allows people who disagree with him on the air... virtually every caller greets Rusho with a "Megadittos". Further, Rush disavows being a political commentator, he claims he is "an entertainer." And one more difference... Rush is but one of the numerous right-wing nut jobs bloviating: when there are just as many liberal commentators as right-wing commentators then you get to make head-to-head comparisons.
Rush Limbagh... wasn't he the guy who said any soldier who disagrees with the Decider is a phony?
jen'il / Anna Molly:

I would say because we are able to watch a possible positive transformation taking place, as well as the possibility of history in the making, it is awesome to be an American. I have hope for such a positive transformation for all (left and right).
Krista, and I thought our winters were bad. It gets cold and snowy here but what I really hate is the street I walk down to get to work once I get off the morning train. The street is parallel to the Atlantic Ocean and it's brutally windy in the winter. There are mornings when I can barely breath or lift my head up to see where I'm going.

But that's nothing compared to the winters you all get. Be careful. We want you around to help us elect a new President of the United States.

Laura, everytime I see John Dean on Countdown I think of you.

I have learned more from Keith Olbermann, Bill Moyers, John Dean and Jonathan Turley than from anyone else this past year and a half.

The truth may hurt but it's essential that we get it. Only then can we move forward.
Bill Rochester NY says "When Keith has a factual error or makes a mistake on air a correction is sure to follow".........Really?   Seems Bill Clinton is in the headlines today. NOW what has he done??
Pat, New Lenox, IL (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 1:48 PM) EEEeeeeWWWwwww....don't wanna hear that...don't wanna hear that... But, thanks for giving me a "heads up," I guess. ;)

jen,il (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 1:55 PM) I saw that the other night, too! I thought, "Wow, Joe, do you hate McCain THAT MUCH?" And, do you think the national Democratic "powers that be" would be "on it" enough to actually use that footage? After all, they handled the whole MI and FL primary situation SO WELL.
update please
Carol, Long Valley (2:10 PM Post):

Interesting.
The debate by the 2 most un-qualified people to ever run for President tonight should be funny.  You liberals are in for a rude awakening in Nov.
This is why I have a dvr.....can't miss KO,  can't stay up.

Be safe and warm Krista!  I hope the weatherman is WRONG and we are spared the ice and snow but I think that I will be driving,  errr, ah,  sliding my way around tomorrow.  Mayor Ballard better be ready....his first test and all.

I'm banking on my students' not noticing anything about my sleep-deprived state since many of them will have been at the usual Thurs night frat parties themselves.

I think we need Keithapalooza shirts.
Laura in LA: "...get that popcorn ready...."

Fortunately, no T.O. at our house tonight.  Just K.O.  (OK, OK, a little CNN too.  Sue me.)
MORE KEITH! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH KEITH. IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIM, GET A LIFE AND SOD OFF! AND THERE IS  NO BLOODY THING WRONG WITH CHRIS MATTHEWS! GET A LIFE.

Mark, AZ (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 3:46 PM)

You entered the race Mark; good for you!! You'll make as much of a fool tonight as you do here on a post by post basis!!

Pat, Boston, MA (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 3:20 PM) Thanks for your good wishes and reminding me YET AGAIN that I live in "no man's land" that John Dean won't be coming to for ME to meet like you and Laura did! ;)

Right on C A; I just pray "Hollyood" stops their attempts to make a freak show out of what is part of history!!

Living here, I've seen the ugly; I don't like it --I pray tonight will be celebrated --I really do!!

PEACE!!
MK, Indianapolis (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 3:53 PM) Oh MK, I just looked at the latest satellite, and based on the huge blue and green precip blobs that are heading our way from IL, I don't think the forecasters will be wrong on this one. You be careful, too, my dear!
