Special Comment Tonight

Posted: Thursday, January 31, 2008 3:58 PM by Countdown

Tonight at 8PM ET tune it for Keith's Special Comment about the President who would rather protect the telephone companies from the law than the American people from the terrorists.

Here's an excerpt:

In a Presidency of hypocrisy, an Administration of exploitation, a labyrinth of leadership, in which every vital fact is a puzzle inside a riddle wrapped in an enigma hidden under a claim of executive privilege supervised by an idiot, this one is surprisingly easy.

President Bush has put, protecting the Telecom giants from the laws…ahead of protecting you from the terrorists.

He has demanded an extension of the FISA law, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, but only an extension that includes retroactive immunity for the Telecoms who helped him spy on us.

Congress has given him, and he has today signed, a fifteen day extension, which simply kicks the time bomb down the field, and has changed nothing of his insipid rhetoric, in which he portrays the Democrats as 'soft on terror' and getting in the way of his Superhuman efforts to protect the nation... when, in fact, and with bitter irony, if anybody is 'soft on terror' here it is Mr. Bush.

I loved Keith's commentary tonight and agree with his sentiments about Bush and his terrible president performance. Keep on Keith....we need the comments you make because not many people are actually telling it "like it really is" in the White House. Keep up the great work.
Hi Keith. Watched the 1st Special Comment of '08.  In one word, GREAT! If they weren't doing anything WRONG, they wouldn't need immunity now would they?  You explained it all, unfortunately it doesn't seem as if the Congress will do what needs to be done, hold them accountable.  Thank you for presenting the truth, it so needs to be given a voice and you're it along with your daily featured guests (I don't have a favorite, they're all good!)  I can't wait until what I call "Deliverance Day" (1/19/09), the day that the two war criminals go off into the sunset. The "Countdown" has begun....
Elsie Granville,You noticed it also? After seeing that it does make you wonder how long he can keep it up. Wow.
I love the Special Comments!!! Go Keith, tell it like it is.
Ron Paul’s been bringing in the big coin much longer and more consistently than any other candidate.

I guess another message of Senator Kennedy’s endorsement could be “Hell hath no fury like a BROTHER scorned” – especially if that brother is JFK and his memory. Wow, this revelation truly puts that picture of President Kennedy and a young President Clinton in a whole new light.

Yep, “the comedian” was not a happy camper today with the Governator's endorsement. Too freakin’ bad.

Well, Chuck Todd agrees with me regarding how the GOP will bond with Senator Clinton as the Democratic nominee! I don’t know if I’m happy about that or not; he’s not exactly my favorite these days.

C’mon, did you really expect “he who shall not be named” to do the right thing for the vets who showed up today?! That would mean "it" possessed shame; “it” has no shame.

I saw the Caroline Kennedy ad for Senator Obama!! That could be pretty powerful stuff!

KEITH MENTIONED THE DICK-TATOR-WANNA-BE with “the comedian” yesterday in his "Special Comment"!  Could I dare to hope that my posts from yesterday had something to do with that? Or, I could be talking out of my hind quarters, too. I could buy that argument as well. Wow, nothing like a little AG & CYA nepotism to truly make this whole FISA battle more revolting.
Thanks, Keith, once again, for your passion and guts to say what must be said!
I Agree with Mr. Blizter. Hillary was nieve. and if she really believed the war was wrong she should have voted against it. To say that she was tricked, or coerced, or decieved by the president into voteig for amplifies the notion that she can be easily manipulated into decisions right or wrong. Do we really wasnt somebody like that as president???
I missed the live showing, but I'll be watching the rebroadcast at 11 central. I'm also in the midst of reading "Truth & Consequences" and I think you should release an audio version to showcase the true passion of these special comments

Who was that "Molly" KO mentioned in the faux-broadcast girls scout cookie thang...? Enquiring minds want to know!

In truth, your link to the Beijing pollution issue prompted my mention.

And Bill-o need not go clear to the Golden Gate to sleep under a bridge, NYC's got plenty of them. Tides on the Hudson River can be observed in Albany; getting caught in Hell Gate during a spring tide is not a mistake anyone will make twice.  I'm sure some local vets --homeless and otherwise - can direct him to the best places for a long winter's nap.
Mr. Olbermann,
I thought your special comment was so to the point about Bush.  I would like to ask you to do a story about McCain. I am so tired of hearing he is such a hero, it occurs to me he was not the only Viet Nam vet who was held and tortured. Also as a retiree of capitol hill and all its machinations would someone please start to point out that McCain has vicious temper which he uses at the drop of a hat, I've heard it.  I believe McCain is too angry and arrogant to be president. What he doesn't know about economics would fill a tome, please make a point of these issues.
Keith,

The comment on the air about big brother was the greatest rebuke of the most corrupt and evil president this country has or will ever see. We need to see this man in jail in order to preserve the office of the Presidency of the United States. But lets get to the most important issue of our time.

Fourty percent of the American people believe him and Chaney were behind 9/11. Seventy days after 9/11 the Patriot Act was passed that took away our constitutional rights. Only Dashel and Lehey could have stop it and they got the Antrax letters - a chemical that only the Federal government makes. It's so obvious.

Your courage, intelligence, and national platform at MSNBC, could insure real justice on this most volitile issue. Check out ae9/11truth.com to read that building engineers say it was impossible for the tower to fall from fire and had never happened in the history of buildings!

But the real silver bullet was how did WTC 7, a 47 story structure, just collapse with no jet fuel in it seven hours after the towers fell? Internal explosions. That's how. Look at the movie "Loose Change" and you'll see the explsions shoot out 30 stories before the collapse. The Zapruder evidence.

Keith, this is the most important moral and spiritual issure of our time. Give us justice. Only you have what it takes to take this issue on! Do it because you can give us the light!

Sincerely,
Edward LaGrossa
Floyd Raphael, New Orleans, La (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 9:45 PM) Hi Floyd! What I've been doing is reading Keith's book and having the appropriate "Special Comment" running on my laptop while reading it in the book. The titles are basically the same, it's easy to follow, and it is VERY EFFECTIVE. Try it if you have the means!

I hear about and am saddened that so much work still needs to be done in New Orleans in Katrina's wake. How is your corner of the "Crescent City"?
I was disappointed that Keith, in response to his question to NBC Political Director, Chuck Dodd, about Mc Cain bringing parts of the GOP together, (Jan 31st) did not somehow correct Dodd when he answered that Mc Cain is stronger and more capable of keeping the Republican Party and the conservative movement together if the opponent is "Hitlery Clinton". I thought it was a cheap shot at subliminal suggestion.  I DVR'd it and listened 5 times to be sure I heard it correcty.
Keith, please - please don't start being Matthews, Scarborough. I have heard for several months that you are meaner (if there is such a word) than those others, but Please don't burst my bubble? I am a Black female and contrary to all of the Black men you have on the show - I know the code words. I am an activist and have worked with Senator Clinton on and off over the years, with the Children's Defense Fund and her love of children is fantastic. If she doesn't get this nomination (with the MEDIA'S HELP) it will not be because I didn't work my Black self to death for her, she will still have my (s)HERO. There is not any other white woman and man that I do admire and that is the Clintons. They were on our sides long before it was fashionable to be there. If I hear Matthews say one more time, how great things are in America (come South) - I also remember the words he said during the 2000 election and how dumb he thought we were. I will never forgive him for that and will never forget what MSNBC has done - I only watch MSNBC to watch you. Keep up the good work - BE MORE AGRESSIVE WITH MATTHEWS and have Craig on more.
BARB,Pembroke Pines. Your tired of hearing about McCains Vietnam's days(or should I say "year's)? And you want Keith to do a John McCain story? I'll go you one better. I want Keith to sit down and have a face to face interview with him. Get my point? Man,I would pay good money to watch that. I'm not holding my breath. And it just occured to you that he was not the only POW that was tortured? Where the he## have you been?
herbert hoover's fifth cousin you don't get it at all, and it's not the first time. your last post was right on but this one missed by a nautical mile, instead of channel flipping pay better attention and try giving Olberman the benefit of the doubt. maybe you should email and ask him what he meant.you can change the channel to fox if you want, but you'll hate yourself for it in the morning IMHO
Dear Kieth, All of us here love to watch your show.
As a compassionnate gesture to our family and neighbors who want to hear you; Will you please remove that awful, annoying "HA" from your format?
It's a channel turner moment.
Thanks
LA “love in”? o….k…. No raised voices? No conflict? What fun is that?! Policy discussion? Did somebody put something in their water? It is Los Angeles, ya’ know! ;)

These two ARE NOT GOING TO “BE A TICKET”! You will have to pick me up off the floor if these 2 team up.

OK...I sat through Senator Obama's talking head and Senator Clinton's talking head. Y'all will have to continue this party without me. Unless common sense or the better natures of my bosses prevail, I will have a throughly unfun drive to work tomorrow. So, I bid you all a good night and a pleasant tomorrow.
Dear Kieth... This isn't about the tread, so I don't expect to see it posted... but can you look into the New York Times article "After Mining Deal, Financier Donated to Clinton" that appeared today? I am a loyal Democrat very concerned about the potential for scandal if Bill Clinton gets anywhere near the White House. Another one could damage the party beyond repair.
HE HAS NO EXPIERENCE
HILLARY For PRESIDENT
I do not like his looks at her he scares me and him pushing the wrong button when he votes it could be a nucluer button my gawn WHere is the BEEF ZIP ZIP ZIP he drifts in his answer and actually he does not answer the questions she Blew HIM AWAY Back TO CHICAGO with REZKO...IT WILL TAKE THIS CLINTON TO CLEAN THIS BUSH MESS..
AND keith O lies too very much if PUNDITS told the truth then this election would be fair you can tell which PUDit goes for Obama,ITs all OBama His Highness Holy, yeah right!!!1
IM saying NOW do not let the media PICK YOUR President TURN There JUNK off.
Right on Mr. Olbermann as usual. You put into words so eloquently what I am thinking. I wrote to my congressman not to extend the FISA act with the provision of giving immunity to the telecom giants.
Roseanne,SilverCity, New Mexico (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 10:29 PM)

I have given him the benefit of the doubt--more than once.  And since he doesn't answer email, the suggestion that I ask him what he meant is pointless. As for the suggestion that I don't get it at all, what is there TO get?  There is enough wrong with the current administration without dragging one from eighty years ago into the mix on a weekly basis.
Brave, bold and honestly revealing of what this country has had to endure in the name of protecting the masses. Big Brother indeed... it is too bad that the so many people in this country have no idea of this concept.

Huxley and Orwell were “right on” with their writings. The level of ignorance is astounding and the fact that there is a constituency that continues to support the incompetence of this administration is embarrassing on an international level... Is this fascism? Looks pretty close to me.

Should this administration continue to whine for continued surveillance of our conversations... our e-mail, our responses to revealing commentary? Please continue Keith, to dismantle the hypocrisy of the current administration. Why charges of treason have not been filed on members of the administration is beyond me. Clinton got bashed for eight years yet the war in Iraq has padded the coffers of so many administration cronies.

We teeter on the edge of two different worlds where one segment of the population supports each other in their circles of prestige oblivious to the importance of good education and health care for the general population. The level of spending in the name of liberating Iraq pales with the fraction of what it would take to provide for better healthcare and educational opportunities. Just what is the greater good that the administration supports? Certainly not providing for the general health and wellbeing of those who cannot. Why should they? It is hard to say because sooner more so than later the have-nots will overwhelm the penal system... And who will they blame for that?

No those bad people with no heritage or history we should fear them... they are poor maybe they are the terrorists. I am sure they have good reason to be so.

Who was that "Molly" KO mentioned in the faux-broadcast girls scout cookie thang...? Enquiring minds want to know! mo (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 9:48 PM)

Don’t I wish?  Maybe I could collect royalties or something. But I suppose he thinks he doesn’t owe me anything because he gave me George Clooney, without my even having to beg.  -- How’s that for delusional?  (LOL)

By the way, it's nice to hear that somebody pays attention to the stuff I post.  Thanks.
Keith,
Tell me this(and I know you won't),why are you afraid of bringing conservatives on your show to debate your radical left wing loony fringe ideas?
The only people you have on are the same old lackies that agree with you and all the questions you ask.
Why don't you run for president? You seem to have all the ideas and "SPECIAL COMMENTS" .Talk about fixed news, you are the king. By The way, get a wet napkin during your "STUPID COMMENTS" and wipe your mouth.(It seems like the people who write these "SPECIAL STUPID COMMENTS" would let you know that you have your nerves on your lips).
I've never seen a more insecure person, that they allow to be on tv. You attack all these people(like O'Reilly and Rush) almost every day because you can't live up to their ratings and ideas on your own.
You should really let Matthews have your slot.
He at least has debates with the republicans. You are a chicken to talk to these guys.(EX. Chris had to talk to Rudy after a debate, where were you).I watch you every night to get a good laugh at your crazy comments. You are the most negative person i have ever seen on tv. Get a life and go back to cutting down sports figures you idiot!
I am posting the transcript of Keith Olbermann's fantastic-as-usual excoriation of Bush's fascist tactics to my own discussion group, who are concerned about American abuse of power.  Way to go, Keith!  You tell 'em!
Had Olbermann ever considered that if some Smooth Talking Lawyer, in front of a Short-Sighted Judge, ever get released how we look for Terrorists Communications, they would alter how they Communicate?

There's far too much information for the NSA to Monitor every single call or mouse click, so they would have to look for patterns of calls and visits of Websites. It would be those patterns that the Terrorist would want to see, so they could alter their use to avoid them.

Or does someone here think that our Government has the qualified man power to listen in on every suspected phone call?
Too bad this Special Comment wasn't around to make it in your book..but, please write another Special Comments book after this regime is over. That way this Special Comment tonight will be included. I think I'll make a copy of the transcript and tuck it in the book for posterity. BTW, you did not disappoint us tonight Keith..great one as always.
Herbert Hoover's etc. well,if thats your positin then I’m sorry for you, theres plenty TO get, but if thats your final answer,so be it,this time your wrong, I think it was all in your imagination, all along,if I’m wrong about that,I apolgize
Hillary Clinton: "We both (Obama & I) have SPOUSES who are very PASSIONATE..."

Umm, Hillary: that is PRECISELY the problem with your "SPOUSE" Bill: He's "passionate" alright! We had to SUFFER through YEARS & YEARS of endless whiny dissection of Pres. Bill Clinton's "Passionate" affair with MONICA LEWINSKY.

Excuuuse us, for NOT wanting to suffer through yet ANOTHER FOUR LONG YEARS of the Right-Wing Media & Political & Religious "Echo-chamber", re-hashing Bill's old "passions"!!!

Barack Obama & his wife will be a true breath of fresh air in the White House, once it's been "decontaminated" to get rid of the corrupt odors left by George Dubya Bush!

Steve Thursday, January 31, 2008 9:15 PM..now Steve you know what happened after I read your post! Thanks for the much needed laugh darlin'.
I found an interesting article that goes into the History of Wiretapping here in the U.S.
Don't quite agree with the conclusions of the author, but the History is rather intriguing.

BTW: President Clinton signed a bill back in '94 so that the F.B.I. Could listen in on your Cell Phone, (Even when it had been turned off) and use it as a Roving Bug. The Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA).
Dearest Keith,

May God bless you and keep you,
May He shine his light upon you,
May He protect you and grant you peace.

Your January 31st special comment speech
is one of the most beautiful speeches I've ever heard or read. It deeply touched me. Your courage is phenomenal.

What I have to say about G.Bush:
"...and the Pharoh did not listen..."
Or does someone here think that our Government has the qualified man power to listen in on every suspected phone call? David Molinero (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 11:08 PM)

Government doesn't need to listen in to every call any more than the IRS needs to audit every tax return.  They only need to establish that they might be listening to yours to have the same effect. I highly recommend Michel Foucault's "Discipline and Punishment," specifically his comments on Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon, as a foundation for this argument.
What is K.O.'s obsession with Bill O? I notice Bill O ;to the best of my knowledge has never mentioned his tormentor K.O. Does anyone know how K.O.'s ratings compare with Bil O's?
Yowzah!  Did it again, KO!  Thanks!
Just watched the replay of tonight's Special Comment. I am left speechless and appalled. Mr. Olbermann has once again exposed another dirty secret of this administration.
Bravo, Keith and thank you, thank you, thank you.
You are a courageous voice in the wilderness of media apathy. Keep telling it like it is.
Roseanne (Sent Thursday, January 31, 2008 11:14 PM)

On this one we'll just have to agree to disagree.  And no apology necessary--BTW, it's not exactly "all in my imagination"--because Hoover was in fact my paternal grandmother's cousin, and Mr. Olbermann's comments about him have not always been in the kindest of spirits.
All I have to say is thank GOD theres still news reporters out there that still have "balls".
Thanks Keith
THANK YOU!!!  I was beginning to think people had forgotten what a corrupt, vile president we have.  Thank you for reminding the public.   One question though, can we ever recover from the damage he's caused?
Keith Oberman portrays Bush as as a mass murderer and pathological liar.  Keith is so filled with hate and so far left, he is incapable of discerning the truth.  MSNBC should be ashamed of putting someone this biased in a position that can influence the masses.
Here, here!  Great special comments tonight Keith.  Finally a true American speaking the truth about the liars in the White House.
Keep up the great work!
<<<<<the C-Span Transperancy Theory>>>>>

That seems to be the question really, the one that no one really wants to discuss.  Can we really believe that Obama will force the POWERS THAT BE in the pharmacutical corporations to testify and hold congress among the american people in Public?

That's the deal.  Can Senator Obama deliever that?

God I hope so, then we the people will actually have the chance to make a decision without lies to corupt us.  We won't need Keith to tell us who the worst people in the world are, we can see them for ourselves.

I find that very exciting, I hope the Senator from Illinios sticks with his concept.

Keith, I saw it tonight and it WAS great!

At least the delay gives us all more time to inundate our Congress critters with demands that they NOT give the utilities immunity!

Sooner or later people will also realize how many unemployed there REALLY are in this country and they may march on Wsshington D.C. with torches and pitchforks!

Best regards!
You are so right on, Keith! I don't even have tv here.. as I don't want it.. but what I see on the net.  wow...  you're  awesome!
Hope I was politically correct lol..  was it wrong to say that?
:)
did i just get moderated??? for callin ya hot??  okay...   I ment you are hot at what you do and say..  i'm so done with media. this is my second attempt at posting here... and i've been on msn for years... wow
special comments were excellent. only cable news I watch. the other journalists are wimps compared to keith. keep it up.

worst person in the world is a must watch.
For your Special Comment tonight-all I can say is- Thank You, Keith! For saying what a lot of us were thinking.  What are the chances that Mr. Bush was able to watch it.  I know, able to watch it; but just completely unlikely that he might.  A snowball's chance in hell comes to mind.  But no matter-he will probably wait for Billo to summarize it for him.  Or some other flack at Fixed News to jump to his defense.
And I don't suppose there is any hope that we could impeach these war criminals before their reign ends.  Again-a snowball's chance!  In the meantime, keep the regime countdown clock going - and, by all means, keep holding their feet to fire.  Somebody has to
hold them accountable for their deceit and their crimes against humanity.  I am glad that you are our spokesman.  I could not have said it any better...
Dear Mr. Olbermann:
I just viewed tonight's commentary (I record your program daily); and I cannot retire until I thank you for your patriotism.  You have moved me beyond words, and more importantly, you have given me hope that we can restore our democracy.  I appreciate you so very much, sir. Please continue enlightening us...
Nice Special Comment.  I'm so hoping that those spineless Dems don't cave in on this one too.  However, if they do, it's only because the media once again made them do it.

The media has determined our candidates by determining who can (and CAN'T) be included in debates.  Even the Repugnikants are allowing ALL their candidates to participate.  It seems that the Democratic candidates are being culled out by the media - excluded from debates or virtually ignored into oblivion during debates by networks more interested in pitting Obama vs. Clinton (5% difference between the 2 of them in reality - they vote the same).

Outside of Countdown, I don't see the "others" in the MSM noting the significant need to stop telecom immunity portion of the FISA Bill.  Too busy covering Brittany and other celebrity gossip as news and ramping up the rhetoric and "tension" between Obama and Clinton to see that our rights and freedom going down the toilet.  Besides, there are nice moving pictures of Brittany and our rights and freedom don't have accompanying video tape segments.

Have the Dems actually been smarter than the American people - realizing that people will believe whatever crapola is put in front of them on the TV machine and are unconcerned about important issues unless networks provide information and pretty pictures to them?  Do they figure "why bother to fight" when the media won't cover it and therefore, people won't care?  After all, the pre-selected candidates, are all pro-war and keeping troops in Iraq.  Ain't it nice when those who profit from war actually OWN the networks that shape opinions?

If so, our precious country is in worse shape than we realize.
