Countdown Tuesday: Knows Picking

The Veep is Coming:  Breaking news tonight that one of the four people left on the Obama short-list would bet his or her life that the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate will be... Senator Joe Biden.  On the other hand: Biden today said "I'm not the guy." But he said it quickly and kinda softly. Our fifth story on the Countdown: Senator Obama, returning Saturday to the city where he began his campaign... Springfield, Illinois... where, the Associated Press reports at this hour, that a "Senior Obama adviser" had revealed anonymously that the Vice Presidential choice will appear with the Senator, in front of the former state Capitol building.

McCain vs. McCainWhile Barack Obama strongly rejected John McCain's claim that ambition only... not principle, not patriotism, drives him... McCain has also run afoul of a previous presidential candidate who claimed that McCain himself ran in 2000, explicitly not for patriotism, specifically not to pursue his reform agenda... but for -- yes -- ambition. Who made this claim about McCain? Our fourth story tonight, it was John McCain, in the book he wrote in 2002. Also available in a convenient audio edition!

ODDBALL: A turtle on wheels, and a backwards rollerblader sets a new record.

The Maddow Show:  A website called "The Progressive Puppy" calls it the quote, "single smartest move ever made by a television network." 'The Nation' already identified her in these terms: "Everything about her radiates competence and a deft, bright careerism." And at the website Daily Kos, there was, upon the news late this afternoon, posted this poem: "For Unto Us, a Star is Born.  "A Gift is Given. "And she shall be: Wonderful, Confident, the Mighty Women, the Everlasting Progressive, the Princess of News." In our third story on the Countdown: but around these parts, with all due modesty, I think I've summed it up best: we just call her "Next!"

Worsties...see below.

WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD: Newt Gingrich, the rap group East Coast Avengers, and Harvey Kushner

Rubber Foot: Look, in my defense, all I'm saying is, I was on vacation. We had some guest host here. Last time you'll see her! Our number one story on the Countdown: evidently... against the odds... this... was a hoax.

Congratulations, Rachel.
Congratulations Rachel!  The best of luck to you!

Please, do not have Pat Buchanan on your new show.  His voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard.  And he does not seem to understand the concept of the microphone.

What will happen to Dan Abrams?  I like him, yet his shows seem to always get moved around.  Why?

My suggestion for the name of your new show-
"Air Maddow"
Veep, schmeep.  RACHEL GETS HER OWN SHOW.  This is great news.  If I had a daughter I would want her to be exactly like Rachel Maddow.  Mazel Tov, lots of success!
Sweetness.
The good doctor has her own show on msnbc.

More power to ya.
Congratulations to Rachel Maddow! I very much look forward to her new show.
The only thing that should follow a "Countdown" is a "Take-Off".
A show following Countdown, and hosted by Rachel, could be named Blast-off, Lift-off, Launch, or some other NASA type term that comes after a countdown. Rachel is great!
After Rachel guest hosted Countdown the other night I was thinking that she could handle her own television show, and so be it. Good luck to her and I know she will do great.
MSNBC is TV worth watching.
Congratulations to Rachel Maddow, and welcome to the MSNBC lineup!  I look forward to "hanging out" with you after Keith's COUNTDOWN.  :-)
THRILLED ABOUT RACHEL.  EXCELLENT.  Kudos, kudos, kudos.  What a wonderful choice.  She's a ph.d and it shows.  Rachel has prescient insight and is the consummate professional.  I was clapping in my living room and so was everyone else.  We love her.  Keith keeps my sanity and keeps me from throwing my TV out the window or moving to Iceland.  Now I have another reason yet to stay.  Thanks MSNBC terrific choice.
Rachel aside....the topic of McCain running for Pres because that was his ambition....Bites him on the butt alright. So did the run on Fox news last night about how how "hero" McCain is not, how conservetive McCain is not, how he actually cheated and before the ink was dry on the divorce papers he married Cindy. OOPS FOX,,,,what happened to the absolute conservative ( we all know it ) line Fox is always spouting yet denying. Was this an evening out of the scores for publicity sake or were they actually trying to put forth "real " evidence of the good bad and ugly of McCain?
Man... am I glad I started watching MSNBC! :D Keith and Rachel are the best commentators on TV IMHO. Congrats Rachel! ;)
Congrats to Rachel.  How very smart of MSNBC.  She will add so much to an already great staff.

Thanks MSNBC.
go rachel, go rachel ... the rachel maddow hour.
A name for her new show?  Obvious to me:

RECOUNT, With Rachel Maddow.

I think Rachel's new show should be called: Bellow Wryly, the antidote to Billo
Rachel's Realm
Maddow's Meadow of Honor
Truth and Consequences
Fact Forum
Rachel's Repartee
Maddow's Musings

Congratulations Rachel

I enjoy you on any show.  Glad you will have your own.  I'd call it "Open" Politics
More congratulations to the fantastic Rachel - looking forward to the new show. Please say it's going to be available on the website?
I wish the best for Rachel, I will not wish her luck, because this fine lady's success is the result of hard work and scholarship.
Rachel you are going to do a wonderful job.
And Keith, I think you are probably the person most proud of Rachel's success. That speaks volumes about your good character.
Rachel:  Kudos - much deserved.  How about Peaceful Maddows?
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
Rachel has her own show! Queen of the Geeks... I can't wait to see what you put together.
Congratulations Rachel!!
You SHINE!!
CONGRATS RACHEL!!  *and the Countdown crowd goes wild!!!*

The whole time you were sitting in for Keith, I kept thinking "when is somebody going to give this brilliant, funny, witty, savvy woman her OWN TV SHOW?!?"

Now I know!

Best of luck to you - you can count on my family tuning in every night, right after Keith!
In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly
Rock on, Rachel
Keith Olbermann: Smartest man on tv.
Rachel Maddow = Smartest woman on tv and thank you MSNBC for one more hour of enjoyable tv.
Go GET THEM RACHEL!!!!!
I want to display a Obama/Kennedy bumper sticker. The perfect choice to win back his base.  Caroline Kennedy would be a choice McCain could never top.
How about "Reflux"?
Yay, Rachel!!!!!
The name for Rachel's new show?  "Unfiltered" of course!  (After her first Air America show.)
