Podcast delayed - published and ready now

Posted: Thursday, October 16, 2008 12:09 PM by Will Femia

The podcast of last night's broadcast is suffering some delays. It is in the system being processed and will hopefully be available shortly. Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE: OK, it's good to go.

Thanks for the heads up.  One question:  On debate nights, why do we only get one podcast for both shows?  And why do you only put up two or three clips from the 8 pm show?
Will...

I D/L both podcasts... AUDIO for my morning commute, and VIDEO for further review... but the AUDIO has been AWOL a lot lately.  Please fix!
Jenny, that's basically an editorial call. The parts from the 8p.m. show that we don't make into clips are debate preview segments. There's not a lot of point in encoding a "what to expect from the debate" clip when 5 minutes later the debate itself is going to be broadcast and two hours later we're encoding a "what just happened at the debate clip." So it's basically a shelf life question.

That said, you raise a good point about the podcast containing the segments we encode. The double-Countdown days are so infrequent we don't really have a detailed plan for how to process the podcasts for them. I suspect we'd run into a similar shelf-life problem, though, in that by the time the 8pm podcast was edited and processed (both here at msnbc.com and at iTunes) the 11 p.m. show would already be entering the system to overwrite it.
Martin, Thanks for the heads up on that, I'll look into it. I always assume the video is the more complicated one so that's what I check. I'll see if I can find out the deal on the audio.
I love the audio podcast (I don't have time to watch the video) which I listen to in the car or doing chores.  HOWEVER, they are undependable!  MSNBC please get your pod-act together.
