GOP: 'Action Alert - Auto Bailout'

Posted: Friday, December 12, 2008 8:00 PM by Countdown

Countdown has obtained a memo entitled "Action Alert - Auto Bailout," and sent Wednesday at 9:12am, to Senate Republicans. The names of the sender(s) and recipient(s) have been redacted in the copy Countdown obtained. The Los Angeles Times reported that it was circulated among Senate Republicans. The brief memo outlines internal political strategy on the bailout, including the view that defeating the bailout represents a "first shot against organized labor." Senate Republicans blocked passage of the bailout late Thursday night, over its insistence on an immediate union pay cut. See the entire memo after the jump.

Subject: Action Alert -- Auto Bailout

Today at noon, Senators Ensign, Shelby, Coburn and DeMint will hold a press conference in the Senate Radio/TV Gallery.  They would appreciate our support through messaging and attending the press conference, if possible.  The message they want us to deliver is:

1.       This is the democrats first opportunity to payoff organized labor after the election.  This is a precursor to card check and other items.  Republicans should stand firm and take their first shot against organized labor, instead of taking their first blow from it.

2.       This rush to judgment is the same thing that happened with the TARP.  Members did not have an opportunity to read or digest the legislation and therefore could not understand the consequences of it.  We should not rush to pass this because Detroit says the sky is falling.

The sooner you can have press releases and documents like this in the hands of members and the press, the better.  Please contact me if you need additional information.  Again, the hardest thing for the democrats to do is get 60 votes.  If we can hold the Republicans, we can beat this.

And now we know the truth. Thanks for posting this, Keith.

By the way, where are you and why are you not hosting Countdown tonight?
Please, let us cut the crap.  ALL these people are crooks and until we demand, not accountability, but prosecution and jail in the general population will this obscene conduct in Government, Finance institutions, etc., be stopped.

Go in and grab Blab o' Vitch by the collar and a wedgie and give him the bum's rush.  Then put him in jail along with the #$%hole's on wall street.

Are we all insane?

Bill
I HOPE SENATORS MCCONNELL,SANDERS,SESSIONS AND
CORKER GET TO READ THIS, DURING THEIR BREAKS,
HAULING NUTS AND BOLTS FOR THE FOREIGN AUTO
PLANTS IN KENTUCKY,ALABAMA AND TENNESSEE.
What a bunch of idiots.  These guys need to be impeached!  We need manufacturing here.  We need good jobs with good pay so people feel they can afford to spend money.

Enjoy the show very much
Is anyone really surprised? The GOP has become the party of big Capital, multinational corporations, and an almost religious belief in low wages for American workers. Breaking organized labor is just one part of kneecapping the middle class. The better to hand corporations a bigger pool of desperate, non-union employees.
Any working man or woman who votes Republican after this--well, I just don't know what to call them.
I think that we should replace the senators with ones that are younger and take up less health care dollars, cut their pensions because they are too big. Also cut their wages and fringe benefits because the country is in the red and they need to tighten their large belts.
Impeached?  Crooks?  Give me a break.  Are you people seriously shocked to find that the Republican Party is actually against labor unions?
This all is real mask to create lost wealth in our country as well as world well collapse.  The One world monetary system looms in the shadows, trust me!
the sad thing? so many union workers have over the years voted for Republicans!
another supposed truth. who's pranking who?
republicans do not have the best interest of the American worker at heart.
Maybe if we didn't feel the need to pay an assembly line worker $40/hr because the union demands it the U.S auto industry would be ok.
The only way the Republicans should be allowed "lower" Union Wages is if Executive Compensation is also limited to $500,000. That would include ALL compensation: pay, benefits, stock options, etc.
And now we know the truth. Thanks for posting this, Keith.

A: Olbermann was 'around' and its none of your business. (:
It's about time that the Republicans stand up to the UAW.  The automakers in the south are doing well because they are not union plants.  The UAW brass only care about themselves.  They provide nothing to the employees that they "represent" and force high wages for unskilled labor.  The UAW has outlived it's usefulness.  Henry Ford was right to intimidate union organizers when he started his company.
If the auto industry goes down, NASCAR goes down.  Wouldn't it be poetic justice to have all these Southern senators responsible for the demise of NASCAR?!?!
I can't believe democrats are for this bailout.  This is government giving handouts to failed big business.  The CEO's have enough cash, they don't need our tax dollars!  If Bush end up giving money away to these companies, everyone else will want some too!
Not only did half of you vote these people into office, you continue to do so, election, after election, after election.

Who's the real idiot here?
Great article. Thanks for the information.
