ABOUT THE NEWS HOLE

It's the new award-winning blog* from the cast and crew of the award-winning television news hour** "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."

We heard about this whole "blogosphere" business from Tom DeLay, and came to the immediate realization that we too, "needed to become involved" in it.

So here it is. Covering the big news, the small news, medium-sized and irregular, The News Hole strives to bring everything you love or hate about Countdown to the internets.

Countdown Friday: Blago Unplugged

Blago Gone Wild: "People have got to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I am not a crook. I've earned everything I've got." Substitute the word Governor for President... And, in our fifth story on the Countdown, you pretty much have not what Richard Nixon said 35 years ago last month...But what Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich said today. Of course, the Governor spiced it up with a passage from Rudyard Kipling's famed poem "If"... And perhaps all you need to know about Blagojevich is, he bailed out of the stanza just before Kipling warned "don't look too good, nor talk too wise."

You Say Dubai, I say HelloThe auto industry was bailed out today...17.4 billion dollars in emergency loans...to prevent G-M and Chrysler from collapsing.  During an 8-minute-long televised announcement timed to end before the stock market opened...President Bush laid out a so-called rescue package...replete with conditions, deadlines and concessions...especially from the union... In our fourth story on the Countdown, instead of bankruptcy for two of the Big Three, the federal government will tap the fund initially set aside to bail out the financial industry.  But unlike the lifeline thrown to the banks...this one has strings attached.

ODDBALL: zamboni goes boom and south korea brawl fest 2008

W. MARK FELT: 1913-2008Today is the the day we were meant to learn the true identity of "Deep Throat". A secret which Washington Post journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein promised they would keep until the man -- or woman -- had died. Instead, he outted himself - thirty three years after Watergate - admitting --quote-- "I'm the guy they used to call Deep Throat"  Tonight, in our third story on the Countdown, W. Mark Felt, the former Deputy Associate Director of the F-B-I, has died of congestive heart failure in Santa Rosa, California. He was 95.

Worsties...see below.

WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD: Sean Hannity, Gretchen Carlson,  Florida State Department of Revenue and  Carl Lindner, Jr. , Chairman of Great American Insurance Company.

A Big Meth:   A drug bust... in the crystal meth capital of Alaska. Six felony counts -- for a manufactured substance. In our number one story on the Countdown, the Thrilla in Wasilla. And the target -- the future mother-in-law of Governor Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter. Which could mean, really, just by definition... Governor Sarah Palin... pallin' around with drug dealers?

I propose Countdown does a worst persons of the year edition.  Maybe top 10 of them.  I would love to see that.
Oh, my gosh.  Is there still a blog here?  (wink)

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, COUNTDOWN!!!

By the way, if you need any New Year's resolutions, how about having George Clooney on the show some slow news night.

Great Monday nite show, Keith.  I still laugh at all the SNL bits and the Letterman Show that you were on.  Some things will never go out of style.  You and Letterman make a good team.  McCain just didn't get it.  That really might have been his downfall.
Great job by Tamaron!!!  Very refreshing and a great good replacement when you're out Keith.  Kudos for Tamaron!!!
Great Countdown host tonight! Please bring back Ms. Hall again!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the people of Countdown.  May your new year be everything that you want it to be.  You all do an excellant job and keep up the good work!
I recently switched to Verizon Fios, unfortunately I am not able to see any of the shows on MSNBC. Why is that? I was a huge fan!
Dear Keith Please read 12 /26 WSJ Rove and Bush reading contest piece.
You'll notice a new greeting sign when entering our state, Keith. -

"Wecolme to Illinois"

"Land of Lincoln - Believe it or Not"
KO'd, the new catch phrase of 2009!  To be "KO'd" will and should be the question at the water cooler everyday.  Who was "KO'd" lastnight?  Go get them Keith.  Love the show and the real life point of view.
Where has Countdown disappeared to?  The last show I see is from Dec23
