My Body Armor Holds 2000 Songs Plus Video

Posted: Thursday, April 05, 2007 9:41 PM by Countdown

Why are Christine and Kevin Garrad so happy?

Because that iPod may have just saved Kevin's life from an insurgent's bullet in Iraq.

At least that's the story posted with these incredible photos on Flickr.

Mr. Garrad is one lucky man, if he is sent back to Iraq again I hope his luck holds out.
Wow! Maybe the named brand IS worth the extra money.
Hmm...I wonder if the warranty covers "shot by insurgents..."
That's a miracle. Thank Jesus for saving your life.
> That's a miracle. Thank Jesus for saving your life. I think in this case you should be thanking Steve Jobs for saving his life????
That is one advantage of the full sized iPod over the iPod nano I'd never considered before.
Jesus? I think Steve Jobs had more to do with this lucky soldiers well being.
Maybe HP should be providng the armor for those humvees that the Bush administration failed to ensure our soldiers had at the beginning of this conflict. Surrounding the humvees with iPods would be better than nothing, and the music some of these guys play just may scare the insurgents off as they patrol the streets of Baghdad that McCain says are safe. God speed to you Kevin. We are very proud of you.
No, thank Jobs. Steven, That is.
Jesus invented the ipod? When do we stop using spiritual fantasies to explain things we dont understand .... we used to think lightning was Gods wrath, its called luck , chance , happenstance. So rather than give credit to a person that is long dead lets figure a way of getting all our troops out of harms way. Maybe jesus can patch things up with the rest of the world?
We just sent an iPOD to our son in Afghanistan. Now I find that it is extra body armor. I feel much better now.
Ok Apple, Time for an Armored Ipod Video just for the troops!
Watch, now Microsoft will come out with the Mortar-Proof Zune... ...and Creative will market their own Zen player, complete with Armor-Piercing rounds that can be fired from the headphone port via clicking 'play'. I'm being funny, but really, what a stroke of honest luck and chance in this case. Another 1/4 of an inch either way, and this poor guy might be telling a different story.
I think Apple should send this hero a new IPOD. They should also consider making one in CAMO.
Heck of a way to get at the battery to change it!
Something for Cheney's next hunting party to think about investing in. Do they make one to wear on your face?
I think that Apple should run with this one for a promotional piece...Wonder if anyone has informed them directly? In return, hey Apple time to replace Mr. garrad's IPOD, no warranty exceptions! No charge!
How ironic that something that THINKS saved a man's life vs. the person who is in office whoe DOESN'T and ends them.....
It ain't high-speed low-drag battle ready unless its available in at least 4 types of cammo...
WOW! Thanks to Jesus for making iPods.
I'm sorry, I just don't find that very interesting, since there are many good men & women being killed & injured daily just for another's dreams of twisted visions of glory. Don't misunderstand me, being a former Marine Sergeant I'm all behind giving what ever the military needs in order to be successful...and to return sane & in one piece... but the media, hollywood and others has treated this war as a money making & career climbing platform. In short, this is war not a photo op...& why was a soldier, a Sergeant, carrying a IPOD on patrol? This isn't the military that I had left.
May the soldier have the same luck next time - if he is sent back - because of some foolish administrator (and his vice) who took us to war under his own pretext.
hehe bullet conveniently hit EXACTLY in the middle of a corner missing important part of circuitboard ;-) ,im wasted, ignore me, just paranoid about aliens and the government and s---. But my iq is top 0.3% of world so...
hate to say it, but the IPOD had nothing to do with it. It was the body armor that was behind the IPOD that saved him.
Yes!! and lets thank Jesus for this delightful war and the people he put in place to lead this country too. Why is it whenever somting good happens people of faith thank Jesus? yet whenever somthing bad happens, like Bushes reign of terror, Jesus dosent bare the brunt of the blame? if we owe all to him we should be complaining to jesus that this war is still going on. IMPEACH BUSH!! cause jesus is getting a bit lazy on the whole peace on earth thing that he supposedly preached, and that Christians SUPPOSEDLY believe!!!!
New here-didn't know this place existed.:) I'm sorry Barry J, but we MUST find humor in this mess-what else do we have? My brother will redeploy to Iraq soon, and another brother has been put in a stop loss (he was in Iraq twice), though the DA has approved his retirement in June. Sometimes this war consumes me, so if something good comes out of it (which pro war supporters are always saying never gets acknowledged by the media), go with it friend. BTW, the guy was probably wearing an iPOD because he could-it doesn't mean he was listening to it. Things have changed a lot since my days in the military-doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Peace!
I wonder if he listens to the Grateful Dead.
If anyone read the article it said it slowed the bullet down so it didn't completely pierce his body armor. Would an AK47 pierce his body armor anyway? And why do people want to turn this into a political issue. Sometimes a story is just a story and isn't an avenue for your political rantings.

is that covered by insurance?
One day every tongue, including each of yours, will confess Jesus is God. One day every knee will bow. The great gift of salvation, or eternal life in paradise, is reserved for those who accept Him while they are here on earth. Those who do not accept Jim on earth do have eternal life as well. It's just not much of a paradise.
Politics aside, folks, assuming he had the ceramic plates in his vest, the ipod was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, it didn't make the difference. I don't know if the plates they were issued are type III or IV, but either way, they are rated for considerably more than the putzy 7.62x39 which the AK fires. They will minimally withstand the .308 (7.62 NATO). And if he didn't have the plates in place, ipod or not, he'd be wounded or dead.
Really, do thank Jesus. Steve Jobs has nothing on him. =]
interesting... but i think it was the body armor that saved him. i put it this article on my web.
"If anyone read the article it said it slowed the bullet down so it didn't completely pierce his body armor."-Vince Moody- Technically it was the Ipod that saved this mans life. Typical AK47 rounds are designed to pierce body armor. So the Ipod was thick enough to slow down the bullet so that the body armor could stop it. And to those who are complaining about people "cracking jokes" about this incident. You need to look at the silver lining of the situation. Without the Ipod being there the bullet would have pierced his body armor and possibly have killed him. Its just ironic that the ipod was in the right place at the right time.
I thought the Zune WAS bullet proof, after all,it was obviously designed by out of work ex Soviet era tank designers.
Now there is a use for all the extra Zune from MS, maybe MS can donate as body armor to USAA
The 80 Gig will stop an RPG...try it...
well, let's tell bush to send his daughters and fight in iraq wearing ipods !!!
Does his iPod still work? Now THAT would really be icing on the cake!
make love and music, not war based on lies. ~from a 100% disabled Vietnam war era vet
Ipod should honor that warranty and get him a new one!
Has his identity been verified yet? Is this story true? If so, I'd be happy to send this guy a replacement iPod.
Give God the glory, a life was spared. If you don't belileve in GOD that's your opinion. We do have freedoms of religion and speech. I must say I believe that there is no such thing as chance or luck but GOD's will. So this soldier was saved by the LORD, to me. A lot of the men and women rely on GOD while deployed. The chapels are full and the chaplin is always busy. Even if he has to go on a mission with the troops.
Hey, please email me this guys email address, someone.PLEASE
When Iraqis are saved by their iPods, do the Al Jazeera blogs say, "Thank Allah!"? Just curious.
ipods and music recordings should have lie detection in it too, ever reminding it's owner that what he's hearing is lies and shty clouding his mind while he should be concentrating on ieds, guns and bombs. it would save lives on the battle field. ipods and music should have lie detection in it too, ever reminding it's owner that what he's hearing is lies and shty clouding his mind. it would save lives. oreilly slaughtered geraldo. good god saturnday before easter. good good saturnday b4 easta good good saturnday free sudanese kids from bondage and starving seize their assets they'll be gettin from cia agents rosie, oprah winfrey, donald trump, rupert murdoch, bono, angelina jolie, jane fonda, and make them buy food and shelter with it if they pass the lie detection phase of their assimilation. good good saturnday mcgoo goo dolls playin mccaints favorite songs may help him gain strength in the polls. not as much though as if he'd jus saaaaaay my naaaaaaame. The ipod will also protect you if you walk out into traffic.
Just in time for Christmas 2007, Apple presents the new camouflage color ipod!
Ipod VS AK-47? = Ipod KO. I do not believe, sorry. And good luck to the all soldiers, of all other the world!
