I think the Cubs will be a flop once again, the Brewers will be an overpaid mix of mediocrity, the Reds and Pirates will fight til the end to see who can finish dead last in the NL Central division. You and I both know who will end up winning the division, and quite possibly the pennant again. Come on, say it with me. Your 2006 World Series Champions, The St. Louis Cardinals. Whether they win number 11 or not this year, they will be at least in the NLCS, and quite possibly the World Series again. There is entirely too much greatness, both past and present, in the City of St. Louis for it not to happen. Mark your calendar, take two Excedrins, and call me in October, because I can guarantee you, there will be a hunt for a Red October!!

KO's 2007 MLB Season Preview

J. The Mets have the most potent lineup in baseball! One thru' seven in their batting order have the potential to hit 175 HR's between them.
.....And that Pelfry kid looks ready to make to run. Add him to Glavine (who pitched very well last night against an OVER-RATED Cardinal team), El Duque, John Maine (another young kid who pitched LIGHTS OUT in the post season), and Oliver Perez (who just might be the left handed version of Nolan Ryan. Throws hard, has shown flashes of brilliance. But hasn't achieved to his potantial.....YET), and you've got yourself the makings of another Division Championship. Only this time, they aren't stopping there.

As for the NL West, while the D-backs got a lot of young talent, putting it all together in what has become a pretty competitive division is gonna be tough. Dodgers have the best starting five in the NL, maybe in baseball with both middle and late relief in spades. Its all about pitching my friend, and the team with ten good pitchers come October will win it all... look around, where else do you see the pitching depth of the blue crew...can you say Jeff Weaver????/

KO's 2007 MLB Season Preview

As a lifelong Yankee fan I agree wholeheartedly that this is the year the Yankees go down hard. Thanks for bringing a moment of baseball into out depressing world of chronicling the Bushite Disasters.

As a lifelong Red Sox fan all I can say is :
I want to believe!
(just as with the Democrats!)

but you know the Red Sox and the Democrats have both broken a lot of hearts and shattered many dreams in the past.

You underrate the Dodgers....Dodgers vs. Red Sox in October ....hmmmmmm?

Maybe I underrate Pelosi...

The Yankees in free fall?! Although the pitching staff is constructed of balsa wood, if it can hold together (admittedly a significant if), not so fast. While A-Rod will continue to be scrutinized to distraction, the line-up remains lethal. On a different note, Countdown is easily the best & most interesting news program on the clicker. There are many nights when I don't even switch to the national news anymore. Meche had a good outing today, Dotel should be an effective closer, Greinke seems to be getting over his demons, Teahen is adjusting to right field well, Alex Gordon is a legitimate R.O.Y candidate and Butler is one next year. We've improved our hitting (which actually was pretty good in the last 99 games last year), our pitching and our fielding. Plus as soon as anyone starts looking to trade for an outfielder, we are waiting and willing with Reggie Sanders and maybe even Sweeney if we don't think we can/want to sign him next year.

The Royals will not be one of the worse teams in baseball by any means this year, this is a much better team than last year's Royals, and have a real possibility to be a .500 team, especially if someone in the AL Central implodes.

KO's 2007 MLB Season Preview

I'm a Cubs fan, nuff said :-(

KO's 2007 MLB Season Preview

Finally, Keith, I can agree with you on something.

They have their entire staff coming back (Brad Radtke was way over rated), and they got that whole 'team play' thing down pat. They got into Ozzie Guillen's head, and as good as the Tigers were, they started hearing foot steps in September, and it cost them the division. I like them to meet the Red Sawks in the AL Championship series, with the Cy Young contenders meeting at least twice in the series- Johann and Dice-K.

Thanks for picking the Braves. I live in Atlanta thus, the southern baseball fan bias. The Mets starting pitching isn't Yankeeesque but it's close.

I like the Reds in the Central because of their pitching. Kyle Lohse suddenly lookds like the no 3 starter the Twins thought he might be 5 years ago. Harang and Arroyo will win a lot of games. Adam Dunn looks awesome and may stay that way.

If the Red Sox don't win the East this year, they never will. My goodness the Yanks' pitching is awful. Maybe Derek and Alex will fight and/or make out in late August and everyone will be ok.

Red Sox v. Braves in the World Series, sir.

Thank you...and Good Night

KO's 2007 MLB Season Preview

The Mariners deserve to finish last after GIVING away Rafael Soriano. They dumped their overpriced, inconsistent starting pitching at the end of last year and acquired ... even more overpriced, more inconsistent starting pitching. Shades of Heathcliff Slocum!

By the All Star break, I think the M's will once again be in last place by at least five games, and Mike Hargrove will be gone. At the end of the season Bavasi (my personal nominee for the "worst person in the Baseball GM World") will also be gone. By Opening Day next year, Ichiro will be gone, along with about half the remaining Mariners fans. Including this one.

The only reason to go to a Mariners game these days is to eat Ivar's salmon sandwiches, and to see how happy all the ex-Mariners are - because they play for winners.

KO's 2007 MLB Season Preview

While the starting pitching for Houston is a bit shaky, the offensive improvement this season will more than make up for it. Mets in the East - Willie won't let them down again. I like that Colorado is turning the corner, and I like Bud Black in San Diego, the Dodgers have cobbled together a team that may catch fire, so unless injuries hit them hard - they should get in in the West. The AL is much more intriguing: Baltimore is turning the corner, but Toronto is about ready to make the jump. So, either the Red Sox or Toronto. The Yankees will be a spoiler this year, and then look out in their offseason next winter. I love the AL central - a tough, tight division. Erstad in Chicago scares me - he has something to prove. Cleveland is ready to win again. The Twins are solid when completely healthy. Detroit has the pitching. Tough call and great race. Halos may run away and hide this year. Their kids just keep on coming. If they get hot under Scoscia, look out.

KO's 2007 MLB Season Preview

You got the Brewers, but you forgot JJ Hardy.
