In short, this is war not a photo op...&amp; why was a soldier, a Sergeant, carrying a IPOD on patrol?

I'm sorry Barry J, but we MUST find humor in this mess-what else do we have?  My brother will redeploy to Iraq soon, and another brother has been put in a stop loss (he was in Iraq twice), though the DA has approved his retirement in June.  

Sometimes this war consumes me, so if something good comes out of it (which pro war supporters are always saying never gets acknowledged by the media), go with it friend.

BTW, the guy was probably wearing an iPOD because he could-it doesn't mean he was listening to it. Things have changed a lot since my days in the military-doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I don't know if the plates they were issued are type III or IV, but either way, they are rated for considerably more than the putzy 7.62x39 which the AK fires. They will minimally withstand the .308 (7.62 NATO). Technically it was the Ipod that saved this mans life.  Typical AK47 rounds are designed to pierce body armor.  So the Ipod was thick enough to slow down the bullet so that the body armor could stop it.  And to those who are complaining about people "cracking jokes" about this incident.  You need to look at the silver lining of the situation.  Without the Ipod being there the bullet would have pierced his body armor and possibly have killed him.
