The Democrats had no choice in this. We are dealing with a Party who will use any attempt to cut off funding for our troops to energize their base. They will harken their followers back to the time of the Hippies, and the anti-War protests. Heaven forbid we even think about simply cutting off the funding. Nothing short of impeaching this President, which also does not have the votes, will end this war. If the Dems stop the funding, the Department of Defense will use every scrap of money they can in order to keep it going. Secretary Gates will go without a salary if necessary. The President will hand over every last scrap of spare change they can find in between the sofa cushons in order to keep it going. All the while, they will blame every single death on the Democrats not funding their petty little vendetta. Like it or not, they will use this to destroy the Democrats. HOWEVER, by October, the Democrats will have the upper hand. Too many Republicans are vulnerable to their next election bid. They'll be scared that standing with Bush will end their careers. In fact, the Republicans will, by then, be in the ultimate political Catch-22. If they support the War, they energize the Democrats in their states to oust them. If they vote against the War, they will loose the support of a party which now equates ending the War with defeat. Suddenly, all the propaganda that they have been spewing since the Vietnam Conflict will come back to haunt the Republican Party. No longer can they say that they are strong on Defense because they're willing to go on the Offense and stay there. Now is not the time for this. In Politics as it is in Warfare, the key is not what the objective is, but when to strike. The time to end the War is not now. It is in October. It is cruel, heartless, mean and very, very real. In October, the ravens will come home to roost.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

No Swimming! What will it take for Congress to uphold its Constitutional duty to check and balance this guy?

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Keith,

You are a smart guy, and good looking too, but why are you hounding the Dem's on this Iraqi spending bill!
I agree, I am not happy with there stupid thinking on this, but there may be a bigger picture to see through this forest! They seem to making sure that this administration OWN's this war, not them. Also, maybe there is some raises in it for the troops? The bottom line here is to make sure THIS administration owns the failure of this war to the end, and if he veto's it, well your next guess on what will happen is as good as any other blogger!

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

OP-ED: The Bush 'BS' of FEAR as Democrats Fold!

Billions of US tax dollars have been lost, stolen and or just wasted in Iraq with NO consequences and or oversight. Just two quick things. First of all, the Democratic leadership needs to be reminded what is at stake here. So, yes, hound away at them. The second is very simple as well. Right now is not the time. This is not a Parliament which rules by decree. Rather this is a Congress with limits on what it can and cannot do. This is not the end, people, but a battle which has ended in a draw. Soon. . .so very soon, this Congress will hit this issue again, and by then Bush won't be able to hide behind the Party anymore. By then, most Republicans will know that they either help end the war, or next November they loose their jobs.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Years ago when a team broke under pressure, the usual joke was that the franchise was being sold to the Philippines and would change their name to "The Manila folders" . Again, what did I miss?...and the Republicans, probably lead by Doctors Evil, Chaney and Rove, kept the lemming Republicans in line...did anyone really think the Dems could end the war themselves without having the votes in the Senate or the House to take on the King...I never thought the Dems had a chance to make any noise...if anything, the Dems didn't want to risk being the ones who cut off funding for the troops...and how many of us want the troops not funded while they are still fighting the civil war in Iraq...What options did the Dems really have? Keep rolling the rock up the hill and have it fall back down on them? How long could they really do that? Edwards can say keep sending the King the same bill but he doesn't have to run for re-election in the House or Senate...he may not even get the Democratic nomination...Trust me, I have lost faith in the two party system...neither party is doing the will of the people...only maneuvring for position in the 2008 election...which is the real crime....worrying about re-elections and positioning for the 2008 presidential election, instead of listening to the majority of the American people...the Dems should take their share of the blame...the King called their bluff...but what does the King have to lose? He is already naked...the lemmings are too afraid to hold the King accountable...and the Dems never had the power to influence policy...the Dems keep rolling the rock up the hill and the rock keeps falling on them, on the American people, the troops, and the two party system...and now the King trots out the old war horse that al Qaeada in Iraq wants to kill Americans...information from 2005 he suddenly declassifies to give a commencement speech...and why are we suppose to believe the King now after all his lies...shocking that al Qaeda wants its followers to kill Americans...all the King has is the fear card...and his lies...and the Dems lack of votes..

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

B A, I have no problem with anything you have said except I should caveat that I never trusted them. I feel like most Americans have no clue how our political system works, which is why Bush got away with murder (figuratively). This is not the end of the debate, and it is not the end of the storm. This is a regrouping, that is all. Bush has nothing to loose because he won't be running for reelection. So long as the Republicans sit there and support him, they cannot end the war. They will continue to put preasure on Bush. This is not over, please stop acting as if this is the end of the debate, and an end of Democratic attempts to end this war. They will fight Bush in other manners. To start with, they will be pushing another, stricter bill soon. They've just split the funding from the benchmarks. That bill is being written up now. They're putting together a bill that will be tying reconstruction monies to political work in Baghdad. This isn't over.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Keith, Don't exclude the 900+ U.S. Contractors that died in Iraq - the U.S. body count is way over 4,000!

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

I am voting the alaskan senator for president this time around and God bless you Mr. O for telling it like it is

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Thank you keith

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Thank you Keith! The answer, sir, is "We will. If this war is going to end any time before - roughly - early 2009, it will be the citizens of this nation who will end this war."

I'm truly sorry so many people are shocked and outraged by the caving of the Democrats on war funding, but it really should come as no surprise. The sad fact of the matter, cynical as it may sound, is that from a political point of view it serves the interests of both parties to keep this war going at least until the 2008 elections are over. Faced with the choice of doing the right thing or the politically profitable thing, the Democrats predictably chose the option which their careers of "service" in Washington for at least the past fifty years have conditioned them to do.

I've been trying to tell people this for quite a while. In fact, in the days before the mid term elections last year, while so many of my friends in San Diego were getting ready to celebrate the coming changing of the guard in Congress, I was taking the first steps on a journey that will eventually bring me to Washington, D.C., carrying a petition to Congress to officially end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and restore the balance of powers between the Legislative and Executive branches of our government. Today, I am in eastern Missouri - over 2100 miles into my walk - and the Democrats have only done what I expected they would do.

If you're interested, I'm calling my effort the Walk to End the Wars. I am a Vietnam-era vet, a former United Methodist pastor and a grandfather. I have a website - www.wtetw.com - that outlines my petition, gives a detailed description of my route, and offers a running chronicle of my experiences and thoughts along the way. My primary objective in walking is to try to get as many people as possible to start thinking once again - about the consequences of our actions and about what kind of world we are building for our grandchildren.

From the very beginning I have been saying that this country still - barely - belongs to you, my friends, and if you want an end to this war and the restoration of our democracy, don't hold your breath waiting for our elected officials to do it. If you want to see the person who will end this war, you need look no further than the nearest mirror - and unless and until that person is fed up enough to take meaningful and persistent action, we will have the government - and the war - we deserve.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Bravo!

I was inspired to send the following letter to "my" useless senators, Schumer and Clinton. Here goes:

Senator,

While watching the news this evening I became absolutely infuriated that Majority Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi have caved into President Bush's monomaniacal desire to have things his own way in Iraq. I have been a registered Republican since the age of 18, but voted for you in this last election because I believe that my Republican party no longer exists, and that those who call themselves Republicans are simply wolves who masquerade under the guise of lambs in order to fleece the American people and remake the world in their totalitarian image. I voted for you, Senator, because I believe that my party has abandoned and disgraced our country. You can imagine my horror at the fact that the Democrats, our nation's last hope, are similarly bent on destroying and disgracing our great nation. My plea to you, Senator, is simple: do NOT vote to approve this war spending bill. Vote against it - or abstain if you must - for the future of this country and (if that does not move you) for your own future as a viable political candidate. I wholeheartedly believe that you will come to be judged not upon whether or not you voted to give Bush his original carte blanche to invade a sovereign nation, but upon whether you vote to extend that carte blanche to the detriment of our troops and our safety as a nation.

There is no excuse now, Senator. You can no longer claim to be ignorant of the implications of that for which you will vote. There is no choice for you but to vote against this bill. The alternative is to admit that you and your colleagues care nothing for the will of the American people, but only for your own ephemeral gain. You may win in the short term, but you and all of the rest of us will lose in the long term if President Bush and his cronies are allowed to continue their horrible policy unimpeded.

When the vote occurs, Senator, think of the people on whose behalf you are voting. Know that there is not one of your constituents who - if they grasped the true implications of this bill - would not implore you to vote against it. Know that your future and the futures of those Americans living and those yet unborn rests on your yea or nay. Let us be upon your conscience when you vote, and let our convictions lend you the courage to act in the best interests of the nation.

I have written you this night in the profoundest hope that you will preserve America and its people in this dire hour. Do not disappoint us. Do not vote for this bill.

Sincerely yours

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Kudos Keith!!! This may not be as over as everyone thinks, and it may not be as much of a betrayal as the American Public think. In fact, if this is what they are doing, it is what I would do. The only contender in the 2008 presidential race who is willing to seriously challenge this drift toward fascism is Ron Paul.
Ron Paul stands for populist ideals that the country is screaming out for after seven years of hell under Bush.

I'LL SIGN! I'LL SIGN! I BEEN A BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD BOY!" Well, he has and that's apparent, and that's all there is to say about that. Here's the thing, though, folks: THE VOTES WERE NOT THERE! In order to knock a veto out of the park, you need 60 senators, and there just were not enough GOPhers who were willing to climb that fence, even with _weak_ benchmarks Dubya could have ignored. And why wouldn't they do the right thing, when it seems like everyone and his dog Ralph agrees this war is going badly, will not get better any time soon, and Fort Dix proved the spider-web theory of maintaining the war is downright WRONG?! Because that 28% Dubya's hanging on to adds up to 75% of GOPher voters. And the senators (particularly vulnerable ones like Snowe and Smith) want to keep their jobs. Period. To quote Judd Nelson in _The Breakfast Club_, "Demented and sad, but social!" Plus is there anyone -- ANYONE -- who seriously thinks this President is going to start recognizing reality this far in? This idiot actually got up on his hind legs and said the '06 vote was a call for change -- HIS kind of change, otherwise known as The Surge (or "Surge 1.0", if today's news is right)! If he were any more in denial, we'd have to bury him in a sarcophagus! It has nothing to do with right and wrong any more, anyway. It's now a question of Dubya having his way for so long, that he's going to dig in his heels, throw his blocks, and squall like a two-year old if he doesn't get his own way EVERY SINGLE TIME... you know, the way the Congress did for the last four years? Were we right on the facts? Yes. Were we right on the law? You bet. But unless we came up with something dead solid veto-proof, that Bush would have been impeached the moment he pulled out a signing statement, we were going to lose this one. So prey for a smoking gun with the attorneys or the wire-tapping program, people, because that's the only way we're going to nail this sociopathic putz. A simple majority just puts us in charge of the Congress. It does _not_ put us _In Charge_. And more is the pity.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Thank You Keith for keeping my head from exploding.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Keith: I thoroughly enjoyed your Special Comment. However you were wrong to chastise ALL the Democratic Presidential hopefuls but for Dodd and Edwards. Governor Bill Richardson has been officially calling for the immediate de-authorization of the war since January. I point you to this post by the Governor on The Huffington Post: <http://www.huffingtonpost.com/gov-bill-richardson/deauthorize-the-war-now_b_47690.html>
I think it only fair to Governor Richardson that you report on his stance in your continuing coverage of Iraq War funding and the Democratic Presidential Candidates.
Outside of that omission, I felt your Special Comment was a spot on accurate representation of the cowardice of the Democratic leadership; and the inappropriateness of the President's use of the troops to advance his own egomaniacal agenda.

The Dems may be regrouping as you say, but they show no sense of urgency when it comes to saving American lives. How many more will be kidnapped, tortured, killed and found floating in a river with a bullet hole in their head, or killed by car bombs they cannot defend themslve against. Maybe you are willing to wait for the Dems to regroup until the next round. But how many more young people do we sacrafice in the interim. No, this may not be the end of the debate, but I don't recall the American people voting in the last election for a debate. They voted in the last election to get the troops out of harms way in Iraq now. Not in the f------ latter part of 2007 or in the early part of 2008, but NOW. The debate was over a long time ago and the American people were supposed to have won the debate and the American people said "get out" The Dems seem to have failed to remember that the debate podiums were removed, the curtains drawn and the lights turned out in the last election. And crazy town: Who cares who ends up owning this war. To back off like the Dems have as a strategy to give full ownership to Bush may hurt the republicans, but what of the troops dying while the Dems make sure this chaotic occupation s cemented to GW's rear. No political strategy is worth one more American life. You guys don't get it. Each time I see Bush's or Cheney's smirk I want to wipe it off their faces. Now each time I see Pelosi's or Reid's smile in a news conference I want to wipe it off their faces. What the HELL is it with the smirks and smiles. The American peeople are angry. Our young men and women are being kidnapped, tortured, killed, maimed in a senselss and unwinnable occupation of a country made up of religious sects involved in a civil war and who will be killing one another by way of street fighting and terrorits acts for years to come. Let them do it. Who the HELL is the enemy for our young kids to fight for God's sake. Tell me that. Who do they shoot to defend themselves. That damn old beat up van down the street. That group of folks shopping at the local market during the day and who plant bombs at night. Who do they side with. The Sunni who were in power under Saddam or the Shiite under the current corrupt government. Or the Kurds who can't stand or trust the other two partys and may themselves soon be into it with Turkey. Are you willing to tell the parents of that tortured and murdered trooper recently found in the river with a bullet hole in his head we're sorry but we needed to debate this further and regroup or that our strategy is to make sure Bush owns this occupation. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!! Screw regrouping or making sure GW winds up with sole ownership of this occupation. Who gives a f---. And THAT is what a Dem with balls and some influence should be preaching and preaching and preaching to the American people until they rise up and shut this damn country down until Bush removes the troops from harms way. You want to end this occupation. Bush wants to play games. Fine. Get some balls Dems and call for a general strike, street marches, marches on the capital from 70% + of the American people who want this occupation to end now. Screw the funding Bills. And watch how quickly those troops will be redeployed.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

The problem with Keith's special comment is simply the American people have ceased to matter...our voice doesn't matter...our wishes don't matter...even Keith's rant doesn't matter...one major change to the political process should be to let the American people vote on funding for the war, ending the war, stem cell research, abortion, gay rights, etc...let the American people decide the issues that matter not our elected officials who have other priorities besides the voice of the majority of the American people...the Democratic premise we vote and elect people who are suppose to listen to our voice and do our bidding has become an empty premise that no longer works...big business and lobbyists control the political process not the interests of the American people...let the American people decide...let us vote on the funding of the war, to end the war, and bring our troops home...the 70% of Americans against the war should matter for something...but we don't...time for the masses to rise up again...a new revolution is needed...CA, we need you desperately my friend...

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

This site is censored...want proof! There is a big difference between here and those freaks that you mention-at least those of us on here can admit when we think those we support have screwed up. With Hannity and Limbaugh, they won't admit any wrongdoing with the Bush administration-instead they want to blame it on someone else. Talk about God helping us-that won't work now. It hasn't been finalized. Apparently, there are a lot of Republicans threatening to vote against it because of Pork Barrel spending written into the bill, Democrats threatening to vote against it because of the lack of time tables. This "compromise" might be DOA. The ink is not even dry yet. Write to your Congressmen and Senators. IF you're in a Republican district, write demanding that this be stopped because of the pork. IF in a Democratic district, write to them about stopping the war. And well done. It’s terse, but heartfelt. And this is why: When I found out Congress had basically screwed us all, I was too tired to be angry. I was just numb. Depressed. To see and hear someone else get angry was such a release, to learn that America hasn’t been completely silenced after all. And I’m glad you used the word “betrayal,” addressing our nation’s abused stepchild by its Christian name, because few others in mainstream media ever will. This government has delivered a clear message, regardless of intent. Our troops are willing to die for us, but the government doesn’t really care about them; that they’re nice, handy, shiny props when they’re alive; but messy and undesirable when they’re dead or wounded. Time to change. Time to get angry. So thanks, Keith. And in this American Empire, only the shadow of democracy exists, where the citizens of the American Empire only believe they have freedom and a voice in the government, and a say in what the actions of that government are, where in truth the government does at it pleases. And this American Empire threatens to dominate, and destabelize the world, as power thirsty politicians seek to broaden their power, and expand the Empire whose intrests is not in the well-being of it's citizens, but in the financial intrests of it's leaders. The fear is that this conjured imagery meant for entertainment by a masterful Japanese writer, may have in fact been an unintended prediction of a dark and very real future for this nation. A future in which the people are only fooled into thinking that their voices are heard, their freedoms protected and their intrests considered, a future in which we truely live in an American Empire. And if that is truely the case then heaven help us all, for not only will we be citizens of a nation of decite, but the subjects of it's downfall, when the entire world turns against the American Imperial nation for it's lies and decite. Pray we do not live to see the day where this doomsday senario becomes reality. For if this nation is to continue down this path, with BOTH sides of the political isle only SAYING what we want to hear, and not DOING what they were elected to do, then the American Empire has already been formed. Pray we do not see the formation of the American Empire........for ALL empires fall!

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Does anyone remember the 12 million plus people who voted for a democratic government in Iraq? I have my own copy. If anyone remembers this show or this episode, to summarize, a rogue element within the US Air Force hijacked a civilian jet by remote control and were planning on ramming it into the World Trade Center so they could begin a campaign of war against the enemies/patsies who would be blamed for it. They were thwarted at the last minute by the Lone Gunmen. Art imitating life, indeed. Required viewing if you are a 9-11 truther. Or not. Also, don't anyone be too quick to jump on the Kucinich bandwagon as an alternative "third party" type for your vote. Mr. Kucinich deserves some extra scrutiny before getting the okey-dokey, as it were. He had impeachment papers for Dick Cheney all drawn up and ready to go--then he caved, with no explanation. I was a senior in High School when the draft was stopped. I missed having to make any decision about serving in a War that was Wrong.
It appears that America has learned nothing. Absolutely nothing.

We need a leader. Someone who will stand up and say ENOUGH.

Keith, maybe you have to quit this job and run. IF for no other reason than to bring passion to the debate. It might simply ignite someone to do what is right ~ none of us care what party this person is from.

You don't invade and occupy another country where the obvious result will be the split and civil war infighting between the various religious sects, or that creates a training ground for 100 times the number of persons willing to perform suicide missions. And these people are now willing to do it for free (not for $25,000.). You take out nuclear installations with air power and special forces operations. You do a damn sight better job of securing your own borders. And you don't have 18 - 20 something year olds bogged down in an occupation where they have no idea who their enemy is half the time. You do train special terrorists fighting units to hunt down and cut off the head of those leading the terrorists movements. And if another replaces them then you hunt them down and take them out. But you don't send 150,000 troops to a country of millions and ask these folks to maintain security and stability for a country where the majority of the 12 million who voted for a demoicratic government want you to leave. Has nothing to do with hating Bush. It has everything to do with hating stupidity that is costing us the lives of our young men and women in a senseless and terrorists promoting occupation.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

William of Arkansas, I happen to know for a fact that your statement is completely false. At no time did Hussein pay Suicide Bombers to blow themselves up in Israel. I spent quite a long time researching this topic. Hussein, in the latter days of his regime, tried to get involved in rebuilding the Palestine, but he did not support either Fatah or Hamas. This does not mean that some of that money went to the operational funds of either group, but that would have been diverted later, after he sent the money there. The same holds true for the telethon that the Saudis held a few years ago. Hussein did his best to destroy not support terrorist groups. The only terrorist he allowed to live in his country was Abu-Nidal, whom everyone thought was dead. Abu-Nidal was allowed to live in Iraq on the condition that he never so much as speak to another terrorist group ever again. They had no choice. They don't have the 60 votes necessary to over-ride the veto and if they stopped the funding then they would get the blame for what happens after the troops are pulled out immediately. We know what is going to happen as soon as the US Troops leave and that is all out civil war and a blood bath. The war is a failure and you are dead right on Bush but the Democrats would get the blame that is surely due Bush if they cut off funding now. That is why in September after the surge fails that can go back an cut off funding and if the war keeps going bad they should have the votes to over-ride any veto. We can give Bush and the republicans a way to blame the democrates for the blood bath and civil war that will follow our troop pull out. (For an example of that kind of irrational political response, see the right-wing response to Clinton.) Speaking for myself (but echoing what I have heard from many others, including Republican relatives and friends), I stand against everything that Bush has done to this country. He has argued for terrorism; established what amounts to gulags and secret prisons; spied on his own people without going through the well-established legal procedures to get permission to do so; effectively set aside habeus corpus; engaged in illegal pre-emptive war; presided over a disastrous fiscal policy that will leave our children with a debt that can never be repaid; allowed an American city to drown and then gave only lip service to rebuilding it; allowed the New Orleans levees to remain at Cat Three preparedness rather than insisting that the be rebuilt to withstand a Cat 5 storm; and presided over the politicization of nearly every governmental function, including the hiring of career prosecutors. I'm not even going to start listing the damage he and his hack Karl Rove have done to people's trust in the electoral process.

When I was a kid, my WWII veteran father--a Republican office holder--taught me (and his Eagle Scouts) about the Constitution, freedom of the press and religion, freedom of speech, checks and balances, the separation of church and state. He emphasized that what set Americans apart from the Nazis and the Soviets is that we don't condone torture, or imprison people without trials, or wage war on weaker nations for our own profits. I despise what George Bush has done to the country my father believed in, the one I want to live in, and the one I hope will survive for generations to come. And I fear him because he either doesn't see what he has done or he simply doesn't care.

His "Special Comment" on Wednesday night was refreshing to hear. He very succinctly said what many of us disenfranchised American's are thinking. I am disgusted with the whole lot of those on Capital Hill who are supposed to be representing us, and this includes Senator Clinton and especially Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. I live in a "red state," so I don't expect much from Zach Wamp, Robert Corker, or LaMarr Alexander; I already know they are enemies of freedom, democracy, and the protection of our rights. I expected more from Clinton, Pelosi, and Reid. I cannot understand how there can be such rampant disregard for our constitution, how so many lies can be accepted, how this current administration can repeatedly and with arrogance be guilty of crimes and misdeameners without Clinton, Pelosi, Reid, and all the other apparently spinless democrates who are sitting back doing nothing. I cannot understand why this country is unable to make our voices heard. Our illegal aliens can certainly make themselves heard, and will have carte blanc to receive our paychecks and benefits, and our retirements. Soon we won't even have a choice of "English or Spanish." It will simply be Spanish, while Bush and his rich cronies retire to some wealthy island and lavish in monies stolen from the American public. I was never for this wrong, and illegal war, of Bush and Cheney and Rove. I despise the "Support the Troops" magnets on so many cars. I support the troops also...I want them HOME, NOW! Keith, I envy how articulate you are and I am eternally grateful that there are those few out there, like yourself, Bill Maher, and even Lou Dobbs, who are speaking against the war against the American people. Bush, Cheney, Rove, and Rice should be brought up on charges for war crimes, at the very least. This country will never recover in my lifetime from their evil wrong-doings, and it seems as if our democrats, with whom we had entrusted their support, are absolutely helpless.

I say Keith Olbermann for President! See if Ralph Nader will run with you.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Trying to think of what motive Bush has for ripping the country apart. You have positioned yourself as a fearless, straight-talking proponent of the crucial progressive cause - ending this tragic war. And yet you say that only "Dodd and Edwards" among the candidates have "failed us"? And you give a hard-hitting speech about the war on the very day that Dennnis Kucinich spoke for an hour to an almost empty House chamber, explaining in exquisite detail how the war has in fact been about the privitization of oil - and did not even mention that speech? You have no credibility on this issue until you get truthful and serious about what Dennis Kucinich has done and said about the war - he is the only true antiwar candidate and has been from the beginning. Thanks.

The Dems cannot simply end the war now. To do so would simply play into Rove's and the RNC's playbook for 2008. I don't take much pleasure in it, but I think that the American public needs to have its nose rubbed in what passes for government and public service these days to get the big picture.

End the war before 2008, you get another 20 years of corrupt, sleazy Republican nonsense. Let the Republicans hang themselves with Iraq, and see a 20 year renaissance for the Dems and progressive ideas.

Unfortunately, the general public just doesn't have enough in the game to care one way or the other, for the most part. This is the most remarkable un-war state of war the country has ever been in, and the Repubs are taking every expert advantage of it.

I don't know who is going to do it, but I'm certain that the American public will do the right thing if they are simply told, in detail and without omission, what has gone on in Washington from 1999 to now. No candidate, party, judge can save us now. We can only save ourselves, by demanding to know _exactly_ what happened both pre and post-9/11.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Keith is right on, I agree that the Democrats in Congress were largely just putting on an act. I wish Keith would suggest what options citizens have to try and save our Country now.
I recall all the b.s. that was shoveled at us by the "Administration" and the media during the Vietnam War period, but I also remember that the media bombarded viewers with the stark brutality of the war ever day on all the major networks instead of showing sanitized little snippets of the same footage over and over as is happening now. Otherwise the similarites are mind-boggling, and if you have a good recollection of that sad period of American History, then this is a repeat and doubly depressing. The problem is that American citizens this time around are too lazy to get out enmasse and protest, and it is the men of our society who are buying into this idea that participating in violence is a good thing and will somehow miraculously bring about peace. If citizens don't make an uproar then we will have to eat the consequences, which includes rising gasoline prices and inflation and mounting problems here at home that will undermine our quality of life, along with a cold war in the Middle East. Think about this and what we have to look forward to in the years ahead if we let the government continue to become more all-powerful and unstoppable. There is absolutely nothing that dictates the US won't fall as did Rome. The Roman Empire overextened itself trying to control Europe, and convert all people to the Roman way of thinking. It became bankrupt and overrun by corruption, and utlimatley crumbled.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

sadam is dead. there are no WMD's. we won. why can't we say it? we won . bring the troops home.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

You're right Pablo, Bush will go down in history as the worst "Blah Blah Blah" full of lies to create fear Pres! Don't abandon Dems. I agree with Keith's assessment of Bush, but not this assault on Dems in Congress who did send a bill with timelines Bush promptly vetoed. Keith attacked him for doing so, and I support that attack. We needed the MSM to assault the veto, but instead the media echoed the lines the Republicans were crowing about being rediculous to put time limits on pulling out. The battle is not over. You must blame the GOP for not bringing our troops home now, not Dems. Dems can't deliver an over night troop withdrawel without overriding veto power. Defacing Dems because they decided to capitulate on setting ambiguous troop withdrawel dates that were never going to be agreed to, in exchange for billions of dollars in Katrina aide that's embarrassingly long overdue, drought farm aide, and the long overdue minimum wage increase, is not selling out the voters. This administration sold us all out manipulating us into an Iraq war under false pretenses.
No sir, bashing Dems is being utterly immature and a gift to the Republicans. Suck it up, walk it off, and channel your anger toward those who are truly to blame for our troops remaining in Iraq's civil war. Impeach this administration, not those leading the charge of the light brigade. We will continue the fight, and yes, its criminal that people will die in the meantime. Just kidding...

I cant believe what our president is doing. Iraq had nothing to do with 911. Im beginning to think it was inside job. Follow the $$$. Silver-stein, Guil-lani, Chen-ey, etc...-

And what's up with this 1 Billion to pakistan???? Like we've got a never ending blank check. Oh and amnesty for all the mexicans; while americans work 2-3 jobs at mostly 8 hour. wtf???
And how come most americans have NO IDEA about the planned NAU (north american union) SPP (security, prosperity partnership), or the NAFTA superhighway which will entail almost half a billion acres of private property to be confiscated by eminant domain!

Vote for Ron Paul in 2008; hes one of the only honest guys left. Btw I used to be a democrat! I dont care which party takes over the white house, but it would be great if we could have an honest one which represents the people and not huge multibillion corporate interests.

The only question now is the one you asked. Who will get us out of this war? The answer is plainly Kucinich. He is one of the few true democrats in the Democratic Party these days. Yet, he is labeled as far left, radical, fringe, etc, by the msm in order to marginalize his chances. In the after debate analysis, You, Keith and Chris Matthews, in my opinion, played right into the hands of Republicans, by treating these "chosen frontrunners" as if they were not just republican lite.

Special Comment Tonight: "Compromised"

Thanks, Trudy.
