The mistatement and misdiredicted point that he gave Mr. Chen from Rueters News........clearly showed that Pres. It clearly showed that this news conference is completely false and politically, morally, religiously, militarily, organically staged.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Knowing what we know now about all the lies and divisive deceit for going to war, I feel that those who voted to continue funding it are now EVERY BIT guilty of WAR CRIMES as the administration. Thanks Biden et all! We hope to see you all in NUREMBERG!

Unfortunately (to them), this war has only just begun. The democrats and republicans have BOTH made it quite clear they are going to act tough on Iran. They know full well that the American people would NEVER allow them authorize another war, so in part I agree with John Dean that the president would - in all likelihood - just go ahead and attack, landing us in an even more bloody and even more illegal war with absolutely nothing to do about it but complain. In a large part, I believe the defeatocrats are in agreement with this as why else would they have pulled the SPECIFIC WORDING from their new funding bill that would have expressly prohibited the trigger-happy administration from attacking Iran. That to me is the ultimate ‘wink and nod’ and might even be why they’ve given him his money… not for Iraq but for a completely new war with Iran.

When you think about it, the Iraqi civil war, which the neocons could only lay awake dreaming about at night, has now methodically worked its magic and has given us all the excuse we need to stay in Iraq or the excuse we need to expand the war and attack Iran and Syria, which has been the real goal this whole time.

All I can say America, is if you thought you knew what war was, wait till you go trotting off on your next crusade. Not only hasn't Iran been suffering from a 15-year arms embargo like Iraq was, they have no sectarian divisions, which means the only people that will be in their cross-hairs is US. They've spent 15 years purchasing top-notch Soviet era weapons at bargain basement prices after the Soviet collapse. Soviet weapons such as the SU 29 and the Mach 2 anti-ship missile the US Navy is so afraid of are far better than many westerners care to acknowledge.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Please go back & review the Bush tape "on the lawn"... he referred to us as SOUTH AMERICA!!! -- even in a fixed news conference he manages to screw up! Again, to put it your way, cracking jokes about her entering the retirement home makes YOUR life better how? Just asking. I guess I expected a bit more in the way of tolerance from someone of your caliber. Please don't disappoint me. And finally...while I enjoy the Princess, thank goodness American Idol is finally over. Joe, Miami, FL (Sent Thursday, May 24, 2007 10:35 PM)'
Hey 'Joe' you need to step down! I have served my country for 20 years in the USN/USNR, and I've been a Navy wife for over 17 years (not to mention my brothers that have served and will serve again-soon-in Iraq). C A served also, and although I disagree with him, so did Larry in SC, not to mention those on here that I haven't mentioned, and those with lovfed ones serving. Please don't come on here and ass u me ANYTHING! I'm doing what I can. Where are you? In Iraq? In Afghanistan? Probably not. Did you serve? I'm not a coward-I'm a realist. I'm a human. I'm an American VETERAN that is sick and tired of this administration crapping on the very Constitution that I spent 20 years defending! You don't like what is posted here? Go visit the websites devoted to Hannity, O'Reilly or Limbaugh, I'm sure you'd be pleased with what you read, although I can guarantee you that the people that post there will be like the people they cheer for-non veterans. Yeah, like these guys ever had the cajones to walk by a recruiters office, let alone join OUR military. Proud and GW Bush is an oxymoron-get it? Most of the press that I've seen regarding the likely outcome of this process (including Richard Wolffe) concluded it would end just as it did because the reality is the Dems did not have the votes to override a veto. (See Jonathon Alter's recent article on this same MSNBC website). They also said would not cut off funding for the troops (never mind that Bush is the one vetoing his own funding - it is unlikely most Americans would be aware of these fine points). As a result, I'm not so sure why everyone is so shocked now that this has come to pass.

Rather than promising withdrawal timetables, I'm not sure why the Dems didn't simply insist that the Baker-Hamilton Commission recommendations (Bush's own commission) be implemented and that they would only arrange funding to the extent it carries out that strategy. This would keep troops in Iraq (which is unfortunately another reality we will probably have to come to terms with for some time) but their numbers would be reduced significantly and they would be doing what Bush claims to be their real mission - chasing Al Qaeda and containing the Iraqi civil war (but staying out of the middle of it) to Iraq and not spreading to Turkey or Syria or Kuwait.

Now an argument could be made that other proposals (including perhaps this one) could have been made before caving so suddenly. That is probably a good point.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Thank you, Keith, for giving me the words from your "Special Comment" to send to Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Durbin, Emmanuel, etc. I had such hope after the November election. They would have better spent their time working out a passable compromise and gotten some of the unhappy republicans on board. There is a lot of middle ground.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

What Marilyn from WPB said. When they were attacked by a massive truck bomb which destroyed their barracks and 243 of them were killed, the U.S. withdrew our forces from a region of the world where the "strong" survive and the weak are crushed. By leaving, we made the terrorists strong and emboldened them to continue to influence the policies of democratic governments around the world through violence. Since that day, attacks have been too numerous to count, but here's a few - Pan Am 103, Achille Lauro, bombing the World Trade Center with a truck bomb in the parking garage, embassy bombings in Africa, killing American troops sent to Somalia for humanitarian missions, bombing of the Kobar Towers (another military barracks) in Saudi Arabia, bombing of the USS Cole, destroying the World Trade Center on 9/11, blowing up trains in Spain (which resulted in changing the outcome of elections), blowing up buses and trains in London, countless car; roadside and i.e.d. bombs in Iraq - all of these events are but for one purpose. That purpose is to make us tired of the horror and suffering and to ultimately lose our will to oppose them and give in to their ideals and wishes. We embolden them with every step back, we reinforce them every time we cry out against their actions and ultimately they win every time because we quit. We rant and rave about the horror and violence, but do nothing about it except try to get away from it. Unless we (America and the rest of the "free" world) understand that there are truly EVIL people in the world who only understand violence in return for their violence, we will ultimately fail as a democracy and be cowed into submission. So, I for one, will back any president who has the bull-headedness to stand strong against those who would do us harm even when the "majority" of Americans want us out of Iraq. I personally don't understand what it will take to convince any of you that there are fights worth fighting, that this is one of them, and if you fight, you MUST win. If we lose - especially in the Middle-East, we will be seen as weak, vulnerable and open to more persuasion via violent means. To the Democrats - quit whining about how wrong the war is, how hard the fight is, and how many of us have been killed - this is a fight that MUST be won at ALL costs. To the Republicans, don't lose your nerve now. You have stood with the President until now and you must continue to stand with him. DO NOT REWARD EVIL AND VIOLENCE BY QUITTING WHEN THE FIGHT IS HARD. Over the 21 years I served this country in uniform, we received orders to do things and go places which ultimately cost the lives of my fellow service-men and women. We wanted to stay and exact a cost from those who killed them. Instead we were ordered to leave and take no further action. If that was the case, why did we go there in the first place? Don't make me ask that question of our elected officials again. They put us there for a mission - one that is not done. Now have the guts, stamina and nerve to actually finish the job.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Pam Bignardi; Jamie - Chula Vista; B.A. Buddusky: Your replies are factual in that Iraq was not the "one" responsible for any attacks I listed. However, following the first Gulf war in '91, we signed a cease-fire with Iraq. There was no surrender ala WWI or WWII, only an agreement to end operational hostilities based on several conditions: unfettered access by international inspectors to determine the amount and location of WMD, which had been used prior to the war on their own people - namely the Kurds in the north; destruction of said WMD; no-fly zones in the north to protect the Kurds and in the south to protect the Shiites - both enforced by U.N. aircraft which usually meant U.S. Naval air power. There were more as well, but suffice it to say that the inspectors were continually harrassed and hindered in their missions and were eventually expelled by Iraq(too close for comfort perhaps?); U.N. aircraft were fired at by Iraqi anti-air defenses on at least a weekly basis and sometimes daily; various attempts to unseat Mr. Hussein were put down using deadly force by both secret police and military units; and at every opportunity Mr. Hussein bragged he had more WMD and wanted to obtain nuclear capabilities. Oh yeah - in 1987 his air force killed 37 American sailors on the USS Stark (FFG-37) while they slept in their beds. At the time, we were escorting re-flagged Kuwaiti oil tankers during the Iran/Iraq war. We did nothing in response. Prior to our invasion, more U.N. resolutions were passed demanding full disclosure of the status of WMD's and nuclear capabilities. It was not forthcoming - in fact, Mr. Hussein continued to brag that he had them - and the only way to verify was to force the issue. I will agree the war could and should have been handled differently - the same with Viet Nam. I have yet to see a successful police action or limited war - Korea, Viet Nam, Somalia, Bosnia, and now Iraq. War is war - it's about killing more of the enemy than they kill of you. It's about no mercy and being terribly brutal - ala WWI and WWII. It's about total domination and unconditional surrender - Japan and Germany come to mind. It's about over-whelming force and the will and determination to accept terrible losses to achieve an ultimate goal Okinawa, D-Day, Iwo Jima come quickly to mind with thousands killed in a single week at EACH!! In '91 we went into Kuwait with more than 500,000 troops at one time. We had at least a 5 to 1 advantage on the front lines. In this war we've never had more than 190,000 troops to cover 30 times the territory!!! If we're going to fight, untie the hands of those who are sent. Let them use the weapons at their disposal. Let them be brutally efficient. That's how you win. Totally dominate the battlefield. As for me not being there - sadly the military is a young man's game. I often wish I could be there still but with age comes increased hazards of bodily break-downs and the inability to make the body do what the mind and heart demand. I won't lie - I could no longer meet the physical demands required of me. Part of it was 21 years of steel decks and "ladders", part of it was due to an auto accident and part of it was a desire to be home at night and not be gone for 6-8 months at a time doing who knows what for whatever reason. My view of what needed and now needs to be done has not changed at all. I just hope we, as a country, don't lose our will or forget what happened almost 6 years ago. We've been at war a long time before 9/11 - we just chose to ignore it until then. Don't ignore it anymore.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

I think I've become addicted to posting here, but there's plenty of worse things to be addicted to, and I love the dialogue! I know a lot of Navy lifers who spent their 20 years counting days, sucking off the public trough and then retiring into a more reclined sucking position while every cent spent on domestic programs is "Socialism." If you want to fight about service, I served four years to protect retail. Isn't this why we killed four million Gooks, so Republicans can trade with the Commies? Isn't that why we died, so a little boy from South Dakota can fetch up some manhood, so Junior Oil Boy can sell IBM to the Commies? Isn't that why we died South Dakota? Ethnic cleansing continued in Serbia long after we invaded. Did you stop the Home Rule carnage in Ireland because they sent a white idiot from South Dakota with a bible to Ireland. Hardly. Your delsions of adequacy are killing this nation and a lot of Navy lifers begin to truly believe you have a right to morally police the world. Well, chemically bombing defenseless chillen with white phosphorous has nothing to do with anything good. It's a shame the South Dakotans have to be such pretentious, racist murdering thugs. You're a disgrace to my war flag and nation. It's called Oversight! Democrats BOW to the cry "Baby Bush"

hello Congress! It's called Oversight and Fact Checking! Billions of US tax dollars have been lost, stolen and or simply wasted in Iraq. Earlier this month, Billions more were just allocated in the 'defense spending bill' for Iraq. On Thursday evening, this new supplemental adds a fresh new ninety five (95) billion to the ever growing pot of stolen, wasted and or lost billions.

Democrats 'Bow' in reverence to the Bush Doctrine of Lies. This Democratic - controlled Congress gleefully approved fresh billions for the 'Bush caused' Civil War in Iraq. Senator Clinton and Obama played it very smart! They voted at the very end when their votes didn't matter.

Democrats in both houses have once again 'conceded' to the whining lil baby that inhabits the people's White House. Democrats are now vowing 'false' pledges to challenge the 'baby Bush' at a later time and date. Democrats could easily challenge this Bush - Cheney Regime of Deceit with OVERSIGHT to all the lies, waste, fraud and lost billions that have gone into this flawed War of Lies.

Americans are still waiting for the statements of: "Iraqi Oil to pay for this War of Lies!" Americans have been Duped based on 'doctrines of fear' to control. Americans are being lied to, spied on and subjected to daily 'propaganda of fear' to incite conflict in the middle east. There Never was a exit plan for Iraq by design. Fourteen-(14) permanent bases are being constructed as I type this OP-ED. Oops, I mean 'enduring freedom' bases! How touching!

Our Mainstream media along with Congress have been very complicit in this daily propaganda of fear to incite with NO oversight . If Our media and or Congress employed proper oversight with fact checking; Iraq would not be a US problem child today. Each and every rationale for this 'War of Deceit' in Iraq was a 'gross lie' served on a silver platter to all Americans by the Bush administration-(WHIG), Congress and the mainstream media with NO fact checking.

Yesterday, Baby Bush stated: "if Iraq wants us to leave, we will!" That is a blatant lie. Once again, let's go back to the permanent bases being constructed as I type this out. There is NO leaving Iraq and or the Middle East by DESIGN.

The mentality behind both is boggling in it's illogic. Supposedly, if someone is homosexual and working for the government, they are a security risk because they might be blackmailed. Sounds logical, right? Not really. The 'logic' behind this is flawed. If gays and lesbians serve openly then they are at no greater risk of being blackmailed into revealing secrets any more than any other person working for the government. However, if they serve closeted, then they are a a greater risk of being blackmailed. Basically, this administration has a trackrecord of think kind of stuff. A transgendered FBI agent was harrassed by her coworkers (which is illegal under government rules), but her Bush appointed supervisor wouldn't do anything about it. Homophobia and transphobia are rampant throughout this administration. Unfortunately, this means that the nation is less safe than it would be if the Bushies would set aside their hatreds for the good of the nation.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Shouldn't we be just a bit more terrified in what John Dean said? Does anyone know?

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Keith, can you please start investigating if the dems are actually IN ON IT? Love his show. Watch every night. But...he was off base concerning his sarcastic comments about the 60 year olds with new twins. Whose business is it. That's what makes America great (most of the time. These people obviously have the resources and I suspect the adult child may have another agenda. (Ah..that sibling rivalry) And let me assure you Keith, today's 60 year olds are far, far, far from nursing homes.Just say Congratulations and move on.Too many important things to worry about.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Tom, I don't. But that might be the Historian in me. What happened in Iraq was inevitable. Even the CIA knew that, we are just finding out. The moment Saddam Hussein died, we were going to see the collapse of this artifical country. It's time to allow the Iraqis to decide their future for themselves. Jon Stewart asked a guest recently about this. He pointed out how we have always allowed the Europeans to choose their own courses, but never the people in the Middle East. Why is that, one might ask.

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Keith, your commentary has kept the hearts and minds of a wjole lot of normal Americans from breaking utterly.
As a 6tyyyyyyyyyy55-year-old who canno become pr7eggers t(and need not want to!), I am far from the nursing home myslelf. Some ways of living sustaiun life and health better than others.

The owl that flew into Herod's dining hall and dropped a Big One on His majesty's balding pate rises to mind. Owl or dove, nice shot anyway! Now if we can have a few dozen more exploding frogs dropping from the sky directly onto the center of that hastily-erected canopy, and somewhat to the north, south, east and west of it too, we'll be all set for portente, hm?

Countdown Thursday: Must've Been a Dove

Virginia.
