How long are y'all gonna ignore the absolutely stellar work that Greg is doing? The guy actually has 500 of Karl's "missing" e-mails, which he turned over to Conyers last week. However, in addition to raising false flag after false flag, they have also deliberately covered up and concealed evidence of the real culprits behind Al Qaeda and 9/11. You mentioned the 28 pages that the administration redacted from the Joint Congressional Inquiry into the events of 9/11; 28 pages devoted almost entirely to detailing the links between 9/11 and Saudi Arabia. Well, that is just the tip of the iceberg:

Yes, it has been plainly obvious for a long time that whenever the Bush administration is in trouble a sudden "terror attack/scare/warning/outbreak/etc., ensues. What has not been discussed is the fact that it has been six years since the 9/11 attacks. How is it possible that in six years our government cannot make the USA, its borders, cities and monuments secure? In a country with unlimited means we cannot secure our nation? If another attack does happen, add it to Bush's long list of incompetant acts as president.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Your story about the Nexus of Politics and Terror reminded me yet again of why I "dislike strongly", ok, hate the Republicans and George Bush. They have no money, weapons or sponsors but they have a plan on the back of a Bud label. The first may have been the South Florida History professor exonerated on all charges by a jury and I'm sure he ended up suing somebody for somehthing. Then there's the color coded threat from hell but we don't know where the threat is or who or what it is and if we knew we couldn't tell you unless you were of course already dead strangled with your duck tape beneath your Christmas tree. The Red Coats kicked down the doors of the Sons of Liberty at 4 am and shot the insurgents dead. The Christians burned Native American insurgents and religious non-conformists alive. The Nazis kicked down the doors of the French Underground insurgents at 4 am and shot them dead. Nixon shot four Kent State Student rebels dead at point blank range. Now, Republicans have ordered our soldiers to knock down the doors of Sunni insurgents and shoot them dead in the night to steal this oil reserve with a revenue sharing law giving Big Oil seventy percent, reconfiguring OPEC and controlling development and production of the second largest oil reserve on the planet. When the Klan was hanging slaves from Live Oaks, Southerners didn't have to do too much door knocking down to do. It still comes naturally to many of my brethren and stopping this ordained self righteousness is slow business, not unlike chemically bombing colored folks off their oil and telling them you've got their best interest and the best interest of their oil at heart. The deafening silence is the rest of the world not rushing to our aid as we bathe in the bloodletting of Republican greed. It would not surprise me in the least for them to stage a false attack against an electrical grid for instance in the desert where they could plant evidence. Nothing a Republican would do would surprise me. Our troops are begging us to bring them home before they die for this oil theft. GROW A SPINE AMERICA AND STOP THE KILLING ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

What was the connection between (even if only coincidence, lol) was it the Police Chief of NYC and a fox reporter??? As stated many times, the curtains on the debates came down as of the November elections, and there is no confusion about what the American people want. (1) fund those troops currently in Iraq with the money and supplies neecessary to keep them viable and (2) quickly develop a plan and implement the same to get our troops out of harms way (either via bringing them home or redeployment). It has been 7 months since the November elections. I see no plan to redeploy, the Dems and Bush argued over the funding, the Dems wanted to tie funding to other spending, then to holding a non-viable Iraqi government to benchmarks, and then timetables that exceeded a year or more before our troops were redeployed. Bush and company wish to stay the course. There is no leadership. Where are specific plans that might take an evening of brain-storming to successfully redeploy our troops. I don't want to hear we need first to decide what we are going to do (Independent - smile). I want to see some detailed specific redeployment plans that any monkey with some sense could come up with. Again, as the debate continues 14 more American kids lose their lives to an enemy they never saw, they could not fight, they could not defend themselves against. It is disgusting. It is a crime against humanity what we are asking our young military personnel to do. Perhaps not in a court of law, but in the court of care and concern for your fellow human beings, I have to agree with Pam, San Pedro. Bush and Cheney are guilty of the worst violations of human decency (a disregard for the senseless loss of American and innocent Iraqi lives).

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

All and all Keith is doing a great job at keeping some of the viewers hanging on, because most halfway intelligent, reasonable people know that our current administration and their partners in crime have been shall we say "Less than honest with us".
And most of the main stream media takes that ridiculous view as if they're not sure if bush is telling the truth or not, and this leads the average viewer extremely turned off to the talking heads, even Chris Matthews looses it when he implies that we still have a great law abiding government.
Reasonable people know the government did 9/11, and they also know that Keith knows, but we also know that Keith would loose his job if he mentioned it in any way shape or form.
So we look at Keith from time to time, wondering how he’s gonna handle issues such as Rosie's comments or Charlie Sheen. If Keith implies that the governments impossible theory is true then he runs the risk of loosing all credibility with his viewers, but if he says anything to "Let the cat out of the bag" MSNBC will make him the next Imus. So it's interesting to see Keith's reaction to those questions that come up now and then.
We know that he knows that we know that he knows. It's beautiful. Sad story and sad state of affairs, but at least we know who knows.

As our weekend has dwindled down and my siblings have slowly left, a few of us watched the news about 14 Americans being killed in Iraq. Two of my sisters and I looked at each other then looked at John. I wonder how many people know what it's like to see silent tears running down their brothers cheeks, knowing that his wife is already there and that he will soon be departing for that hell hole. I wonder how many people have heated 'debates' with their loved ones about this war, but the heated debates are heated not because of opposing view points, but because of the absolute fear of losing their brother or sister in law. I know for some of you that it may seem like the war in Iraq is the only thing I think about-not true. However, my 8 brothers and sisters are my best friends, my confidantes, my heroes. I can't explain how I feel-and if you've never felt it yourself, then you will never understand. I'm scared-scared like I've never been before. John has been to Afghanistan and Iraq already, so I don't know why this is different. Maybe because the tactics of the unknown enemy are ever changing and there seems to be no safe place in Iraq anymore. Maybe because with the deployments of two my bros and my sister in law, that it's almost like Russian roulette. I don't know. I do know that there is no measure of victory in Iraq. I do know that 14 MORE Americans are dead. I do know that there are people who will continually support the president and his failed policies in Iraq and Afghanistan, and I do know that I just want this all to end and for my family to be whole again. PEACE!

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Great job, Keith, to point out the suspicious coincidences between terror alerts and political setbacks for king George. No need to weara tin hat to see the pattern. You could even have added the recent headline-hogging public scare about the drug-resistant-TB carrier who was going to fatally infect two continents.

Now it turns out said carrier was never contagious and had been told so by the CDC, and that the entire story appears to be due to incompetence at the CDC. In an article on News-Medical.Net titled "The real villain in TB jet flying case is the ...?" (http://www.news-medical.net/?id=25977) the writer concludes:

"The actions of the CDC are questionable and raise the suspicion that by invoking the first federal quarantine order in forty years, which requires the signature of the President of the United States, that there was some other motive involved.

The quarantine order was lifted over the weekend
accompanied by little if any major publicity. However, Mr. Speaker remains confined to a Denver hospital under an isolation order from the state of Colorado and the public must be forgiven for suspecting this is yet another case of 'overkill' given the repeated assertions of the 'experts' at the CDC that he was non-infectious even before treatment."

You pick which among the many ongoing scandals this bogus international health alert may have been meant to crowd from the screens but it sure did a good job while the scare lasted.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Um, Steve, I think you assume too much. I don't think there's any reason to assume anyone else's belief in tinfoil-hat 9/11 theories unless and until they state them outright. What Keith's doing with "The Nexus of Politics and Terror" is simply pointing out how interesting it is that there always seems to be a new "terra alert" or announcement of a big "terra plot" foiled right around the time the White House most needs to distract the public from its troubles or from the actions of Democrats. And that it's worth all of us being skeptical because, in the immortal words of Todd Rundgren, "You cried wolf once too often!" Way more than once, actually! Making you wonder just how dumb they really expect us to be...

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Ditto to Erik's question: I'm stuck in the hinterlands w a dial up (can't do streaming) and no TV access to MSNBC. Maybe on the surface people "pretend" to believe in the fairy tale that a man in a cave was able to suspend the laws of physics on 9/11 and cause the WTC buildings to do impossible magic tricks, such as collapsing at free fall speed, but when they are honest within themselves they know the laws of gravity and reality are permanent. Yes, as hard as it may be to accept, the laws of physics are even more RELIABLE than the word of your president.

Have you ever heard the term "Actor"? I know this might be a little deep for you, but sometimes politicians and even talking heads put on an act, they pretend to be something when they are not, they pretend to be great leaders and great saviors who only care about the welfare of the citizens, but in reality they are very selfish and greedy, taking bribes and kick-backs from lobbyists and other financial backers. It's true there are many people, even adults who seem to be stuck in tele tubby land, where life is simple and everything the president says is true, and in this great fantasy land all true american republican christians are good, heaven bound people and everyone else is headed for hell in a hand basket, because narrow is the way and they interpret that as meaning narrow minded. But in this place we call reality, or the real world, we know that the laws of physics, gravity and reality don't change.

Presidents and congressmen and other disingenuous individuals may come and go, but the laws of reality are here for ever. And that is why I said "REASONABLE" people. Maybe I should have included halfway intelligent people that are still able to think for themselves and do complex math equations like 2 + 2 = 4, even though your president has some people convinced that 2 + 2 = 17. They even try to label people who go by true science and the laws of physics as being tin foil hat people, but in reality it's the mindless followers of this corrupt regime that are apparently wearing the preverbal tin foil hat. Now let me give you another clue about how reality works regarding Keith, and why he's pretty popular, (at least for now) It's because the mass public has become so disgusted with the lies and total corruption on the part of the media that people in masses are turning their televisions off and going to the Internet.

Trying to find out the skinny on main stream news is like asking OJ Simpson's lawyer to give an unbiased account of what really happened. It's called a conflict of interest. How can you expect the main stream media to reveal some of the truth about the real criminals, when the real criminals are sponsoring their networks? So people in large numbers realize you simply cannot get anything remotely honest on any television news outlet so they turn to the Internet. Also the main stream news is really peeeeing people off to no end, because it's obvious how they've betrayed the public trust by only airing things that are approved by their masters.

And so to keep some of their viewers they had to give them a little truth, not too much, they could never do that, but they give them just enough to restore a little confidence in their audiences, they give us Keith to satisfy our craving for some truth, even a tiny bread crumb of truth will be great in this dry land. It's rich in Buuuuuullll puckey, but it's so dry in the field of truth that seeing Keith come on and speak is like your in the desert, dying of thirst and you find a canteen with some water in it. Your so grateful to quench your thirst you don't really care if the water is perfect or not, as long as it’s wet you'll drink it, but the stuff on Fox news and other places on MSNBC come right from the sewer so you know better than to digest anything from there. And that's the way it is, good night and good luck!!! www.iwilltryit.com

This complex which benefits economically must be contained and commanded by the larger majority which are not willing to sacrifice innocent lives for economic gain.

The empty value of economic gain is poised to rear it’s ugly head in environmental degradation which will not discriminate it’s wrath of death and destruction. It will be the great equalizer. The time to fight it is now and the military complex had better be redeployed to manage the catastrophic events about to unfold. Weaponry in this fight is useless.

In lieu of such pressing matters I can not bring myself back to the minor injustices I wish I could correct for the sake of our future generations. Suffice it to say that America’s founding fathers had great insight and it’s directives should not be in such a contemporary contempt. Hypocrisy stems from the deviation of that original intent and brings shame to our great nation.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Don: So good to see you again my friend.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Kieth you are the best. While it's feasible to suspect the timing of these plots as a critical journalist (and given the constant lies of the Bush Admin.), I think it's borderline irresponsible on Countdown's part to take such an aggressive stance so shortly after the foiled JFK plot.

Great Worst Person segment last night, though, one of your best yet.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Well there is finally somebody who's is willing to tell it like it is. Took long enough but at least Keith did. He is the only one who is willing to say it like it is. And he is doing it to both sides. Which makes him even more credible in my eyes. Every time there was a treat I shook my head because I knew nothing come of it. It is almost like a broken record. Here is the bad part about all of this: if you call wolf to many times nobody will pay attention when the real wolf is coming. Isn't it interesting that we took Saddam out because of the ethnic cleansing he did? What is the difference now? Isn't there still ethnic cleansing except even more than before? So what did our soldiers die for? It's interesting how as bad as Saddam was Iraq is a whole lot worse now under us.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

yeah, a one minute line abt cong. jefferson.... um, and where is the followup to the dictator directive... just sayin

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Mr. Olbermann, I absolutely loved the connection between alerts and "arrests" and bad news for the administration. However, your staff missed a bunch. These wannabe terrorists that couldn't blow up a balloon that they have been arresting lately are usually poor suckers that got set up by our gov't and then the loyal Bushies sit on the news until the timing is right, sounds like Rove's handiwork. Also, I found it incredibly "coincidental" that prior to the first debate there was that "hot" news release about the terrorist plotters I think in Saudi Arabia. Interesting that they sat on the story for nearly SIX MONTHS before releasing it, "conveniently" right before the first Democratic debate. When will we impeach these criminals? Where is the oversight? Congress should be subpoenaing all phone records and e-mails concerning each of these "terrorist" arrests and prove to the public the crass manipulation of this administration.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Sorry Don, but CA was wrong , Paris got more attention and Keith did not demand Jefferson's immediate resignation. After segments like those my trust and hope for humanity is usually hitting rock bottom, so a story on Paris Hilton is just salt in the wound. In fact, more often than not I skip the number 1 story. As a suggestion, I would love it if Countdown could balance and counteract that pessimism created from the previous 4 stories with more positive stories as the number 1, even if they take more work to find and research (although I think you could use trashy celebrity news intermittently while your reporters work on something nice). I think hearing about the true heroes in our world today would be pleasantly different from what you normally see in the news and it'd be a hell of a lot more interesting.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

While I don't agree with the handling of Iraq, or where our recources are going to fight islamofacsism, clutching at coincidences and impying that the war on terror does not exist and my fears are being infuenced by the government is irresponsible journalism, even if you inform us that it might be only coincidence. Here we are again with the smoke and mirrors administration. As thousands are dead and wounded in Iraq and the numbers are climbing as the surge proves to be just as bad idea as most said it would be, this administration keeps pushing their politics of fear. We have more and more of our men and women in uniform and innocent Iraqis dying by greater numbers as this war rages on and they attempt to convince us that we should be ever fearful of the McGyver-like terrorist who is trying to blow up aircraft with a combination of hair gel, lipstick and the little plastic thingies on the end of their shoe laces. Then we have a GOP rep in Arkansas that believes all we need is another 9/11 terrorist attack and everyone will love GW again. WTF??? If that were to God-forbid happen, how is that a good thing for this administration? The administration of "We are fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here" and "Our diligence is the reason we have not been attacked again since 9/11"? Why should this administration fear another attack anyway? Will the Bush daughters be shopping in the mall or flying on commercial aircraft or riding the subway when there is a REAL attack? Will those in Congress be working in their offices when the truck bomb in the parking garage explodes? Once again the only victims of a REAL terrorist attack will be the everyday Americans and those in Washington will only use the attack for political purposes. Wars are always started by people that will never have to suffer the terrible consequences that it brings.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Michael you don't get it. And I don't mean in the USA alone but around the world? We now become the ones seen as bullies. How can you say you bring democracy around the world? Even if we have to do it by force? I said that I believed Keith would mention Jefferson's indictment on his show. Don't put words in my mouth. And so what if Jefferson may get a little less attention on Keith's show then say that fine upstanding citizen Tom Delay. Why does it shock you that this occurs when it is obvious Keith leans to the left. He certainly does not hide it. Just like Hannity or Brit Hume (a news anchor), John Gibson, Bill O'Reilly, Limbaugh and others lean to the right and they don't hide it. What is the big deal. If you don't like what Keith reports and how he reports it then change the channel to Hannity, Hume, Gibson, O'Reilly, whoever and quit criticizing Olberman for being and reporting exactly where exactly he would agree he leans, to the left. That's like me criticzing Hannity or Hume for spending more time blasting those on the left than on the right. What's the point? They obviously lean to the right so what do I expect (except compared to Keith they are idiots), but they can't help that. Must be something from birth. At least Keith does not have noted as a caption under his show "Fair and Balanced". I would like to see keith add a caption to his show that says UnFair / Unbalanced At Times But Sane Most Of The Time.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Thanks so much for the Nexus report. Add to that how the 24 hour news channels can only seem to cover 1 story at a time. All runaway bride, all the time, for example. Then another story comes along that knocks that one off and, there they go again covering that story endlessly until it's replaced by yet another story that will get 24 hour coverage. THAT is the reason that the BushCo Fear Flag raising tactic works. It is the only thing that gets covered whether it's legit or not and it knocks anything else off the air. We need media that covers the NEWS! All the news. Not just one stinking story covered to death. MSM ratings are going DOWN as more people, sickened by what you rightly call the National Enquirer News as well as single story only coverage, turn to the internet to find out what's really going on. I quote you "breaking news- congressman Jefferson indicted- won't see that on Kieth Olbermann's Show tonight" well we saw it that's all i'm saying, you were wrong! that as they say is that. As far as the terrorist plot's go, when the right of the people to know is used against the people in the form of fear, just for political purpose's are political advantage this is what happens. We all here know the possibility of another terrorist attack in america is very likely, more so than ever since our occupation of Iraq. Why is Michael Reagan wrong?, because he fear's "We The People" the Administration fear's "We The People" why? if what you are doing is in the best interest of "We The People" then why fear the People? When Michael Reagan said Bush should shut down the media, he was not talking about Bush's voice are the voice of the Administration in the media, he was talking about the voice of "We The People" in the media. You said it your self, you want to know about terrorist plot's, it would be and advantage, we all would have liked that advantage, but when the Bush Administration used terror for political advantage, they stoll that advantage from all of us. I demanded his resignation MANY times and PRIOR to the November 2006 elections. In addition, Michael Reagan is a domestic fanatic who just last week stated, "if I were George W. Question John, do you support the First Amendment to our Constitution? If you do, then I don't feel you or anyone who supports and loves our Constitution should in any way, shape or form channel Michael Reagan, as he feels it’s just “FINE” to do away with the First Amendment and shatter our Constitution!!

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

John-Phila: If you are going to suggest that Keith admits to be unfair and unbalanced at times then perhaps you might suggest that those on Fox also take off the Fair and Balanced caption and put UnFair and UnBalanced at times as well. Auto sales are down, increased importing is up, and the economy as a whole should be suspect. Afterall, when the big boys who control the mergers and acquisitions have completed this round, what is to keep this supposed great economy from falling? It certainly is not the public at large as in most other studies because this economy isn't being maintained by the spending public but rather by Wall Street machinations only. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are shot. Big spending on other diposables is down and until Wall Street is completed, the US economy will not be tossed out. I am of the intention that Bush is trying to spend the next administration into a recession. If it is democratic, then complete pandimonium will occur. I am not sure how Bush can differentiate between the same, but he is betting on taking all the marbles when he ends his term. The game is up with this reactionary Ologarch and not a moment too soon!

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

C A, Tuscaloosa, AL; Thank's it's good to be making a few post again. The question is, what's the cause? And by the way, this is a well doc'd theory, goes back thousands of years. The problem comes when you know you're being fooled, but haven't figured out why. His piece, "Nexus of Politics and Terror," was terrific. I do have one concern. Countdown has many intelligent, informative commentators and reporters on the show. I cannot understand where Craig Crawford fits in. He panders and smirks whenever he's on. Countdown and Keith can do better.

It got me to thinking that we need to bring back Civics classes to the public grade and middle schools. There are plenty of shows like that all over cable. If you like that, watch them. I don't, myself, have time to waste listening to political operatives spinning either the Dem or Republican line. Keith devotes significant time to 3 or 4 big stories and follows those threads through, week to week, and across longer stretches of time. This is a critical gap in news coverage, which in most cases gives almost no space and or time for perspective or connecting stories. Keith has a clear perspective and you know what it is, but often guests disagree with him or offer more complex perspectives. I read many, many articles from across the political spectrum and feel that, most times, Keith and his staff do an excellent job of both focusing on stories and developing them in some depth. If that is not what you want to see, use the remote. That's what it's there for. I know because I cruise past FOX shows every day.

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

Linda, Pittsburgh - As always, great analogy and also, thanks for the GREAT (and very funny) last line!!

Countdown Monday: Nexus of Politics & Terror

E. We blogfolk struggling to pay escalating energy and health costs (the intentionally orchestrated homeland quagmire] have understood this for years. Read "What if Our Mercenaries Turn on Us" http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/06/03/1638 by Chris Hedges, regarding Blackwater, a corporation that exemplifies "privatization of war" and "hands an incentive to American corporations, many with tremendous political clout, to keep us mired down in Iraq." In addition, Blackwater recently "announced it was creating a private intelligence branch called “Total Intelligence.” Ten to one they are connected with the recent "surge" in terror "plots." It is not unreasonable to suggest “Total Intelligence” would be interested in any means to ensure their company’s growth and power. The oil and pharmaceutical companies are literally writing our legislation. Why not Blackwater too?
Someone powerful in the media needs to expose which and how many congressional and Department of Injustice personnel, elected & appointed officials have direct campaign finance or other ties to Blackwater.
The information is readily available online and has been for some time, though I can’t say the “internets” will be an open forum much longer.
