Good grief...I hadn't even THOUGHT about timing the release of September "progress reports" about the surge effectiveness with the 9/11 anniversary. My paranoid cynic radar must be out of whack. UGH...as the attorney in the Army-McCarthy hearings said, "Have you no sense of decency?"

And, if what NEWSWEEK said is true about 41% of American's STILL BELIEVING that Saddam had something to do with the attacks on September 11, 2001, maybe this comment is a little harsh, but do we perhaps deserve what we elect? *&^%$#@?!

What a morning. My brothers friends funeral is happening at Ft Bragg as I type this. John wanted his son that is attending basic training to know about Steve, so he called the training post to let him know. Some 'intelligent' drill instructor pulled my nephew aside and asked him if CPT John ____ was his father. Yes, was my nephews reply. Well, this guy then says 'I have some bad news for you.' The poor kid about fell out until the knucklehead realized that 'oh yeah, this kids dad is in Iraq.'

So, to add to my stomachache of worrying about my brother, worrying about his kids, and his friends wife, I get to wake up to all of this crap that our government continues to spew forth. Our neo-con Supreme Court that WON'T go away, not even when the DICK and his BUSH leave office (sorry for the nasty implication with the names, but it is too true), and continues to award money to 'faith based' groups. Love the separation of church and state.

How pathetically sad it is for people to STILL believe that Saddam had anything to do with September 11. I didn't realize that people really do live under rocks in this country!

God, I hope things get better. What a world that my children are going to inherit if something isn't done. I guess it's time to make more phone calls and write letters.

You want to look in academia for spies you should look at STAFF, not train THEM what to look for. You stand a (slightly) better chance for being productive. If you follow students, you will find out these things (and ONLY these things) for CERTAIN: the cheapest food in town, the cheapest drinks in town, where the party is, how to make a bong out of anything, which instructors to avoid and which guys/girls on campus put out. This will be 99.9987% of your work. In other words, this is going to be about as effective as the TSA. Let's not forget the potential abuses by petty instructors looking to damage a student they don't like. And don't tell me that never happens either. I have 3 degrees. I have not only heard enough about that kind of crap, I've experienced it. How about the State Department and the INS start DOING THEIR JOB and not just pony up the visas every time Bechtel needs a new engineer without a little more scrutiny than Bechtel's HR needs? Or even better, how about using that energy and money on rooting out espionage within large corporations? In the spot easier to get into and easier to do damage from? How about that? No? It irritates the lobbyists? Well, screw the lobbyists. Bush and Cheney don't trust the media, which is as dangerous as anyone to the security of the United States. The media feels it is "entitled" to ALL security documents and what is said in closed door meetings. Since the media is overwhelmingly liberal I'm not surprised at this administration's secrecy.

A reminder that no acts of terrorism have hit America since 9/11. Give Bush credit for that. But
we need much more border security and we need to know exactly WHO is in our country illegally. That is this administration's main weekness, although the current immigration problem started many administrations ago.

While Bush's approval rate is currantly at 33%, the newly elected Democratic congress is at 14%. Everybody's pissed at everybody and nothing's getting done. But the war in Iraq will eventually end and then the chaos begins. A bigger war, call it World War III if you like although many believe World War III has already started, will pit the U.S. against Iran, a country that already has strong ties to the war in Iraq and terrorists all over the world.
I, for one, believe they already have nuclear power.

So when Bush and Cheney are out of office, who are you gonna blame it on then? Iran is coming. They hate us and they're probably already here among us. How well do you really know your next door neighbor?

Oh, and when did Rolling Stone become any kind of reliable source? It's just like People magazine except it pushes sex ads on the back pages. Wake up.

The American people handed power to Congress and Congress doesn't seem to have the courage to use it and stand behind their decisions. The biggest mistake Nancy Pelosi made was saying that impeachment was off the table. You can't work compromises with Cheney/Bush. This gave a green light to the Bush administration (i.e. Dick Cheney) to do as they please with no oversight whatever. If Mr. Cheney is not part of the executive branch of government, then remove his office from the White House to the Senate Office Building. Institute impeachment proceedings against Cheney. Congress -- stop fooling around and do the will of the people instead of the will of the party or of Dick Cheney.

Disgusted: Understand your disgust. People seem to forget that these are career politicians making promises of change. I learned a long time ago, except for those rare occasions when just one person might come along and really try to put forth the people's agenda and desires, the majority are bought and paid for before they even arrive in Washington. I don't care if they are democrat or republican. Is it difficult to be your own man/woman under these circumtances. I'm sure that it is, as most could not have been elected without some special interests looking for pay back the day the take office. The same occurs if elected to a state or local office where many started their careers. Term limits may be an answer to achieving more honesty and integrity in Washington, but there are no gauarantees that term limits would have such an effect. The bottom line. Don't put your trust in any of these people. Continue to demand wha tit is the American people elected them for in the first place. To represent the will of the people. At this point I tend to agree with Bob - Pensacola, get rid of the entire bunch and start anew. Serious and effective campaign finance reform, term limits, daily postings on TV when Congress is in session as to who voted for what and when, and personally signed contracts with the American people that the minute he/she does not vote to represent those who elected them they lose their job. Only serious and drastic reform in the political process is going to change the lack of honesty and integirty among all politicians no matter the party.

There comes a point at which the ultimate or historical "rightness" or "wrongness" of an opinion of an executive or administrative employee's position on a matter is no longer the issue. There comes a point when process must be maintained, or chaos or anarchy is the result. Organized societies cannot function without a process--whether the process flows from something as simple as adherence to "Robert's Rules of Order", or from something as quaint as an openly and legitimately enacted document (a federal/national Constitution, for instance) that formally empowers (or not) national and state governments, via laws enacted by the Legislative Branch and upheld (or not) by a Judicial Branch, all for day-to-day handling and operation by an Executive Branch. Our federal/national Constitution was forged in the aftermath of something more direct and deadly than a "War on Terror" (which, of course, is a "war" in name only perpetrated on a nothing and practiced by the un-named and unaccountable)--a revolutionary war against a definable and discernable foe that was truly capable of preventing or ending the existence of the thing the Constitution organizes. Amidst various red-herring digressions over the years (such as the recent and strangely and historically ignorant naval-gazing as to whether we have always been a "Christian" nation), our Constitutional process has already demonstrated that it can withstand (and function in the face of) wars, secessions, overt denials of civil rights, overt civil disobedience, spies, fools and charlatans. However, what even our process cannot abide or rationally handle (in the same way that our Courts have had difficulty handling "organized crime") are the actions and behaviors of those who determine to affirmatively not follow, or to violate, not merely "laws" but our underlying national social compact and who intentionally set out to not be bound by the process. Although no one really wants to make the comparison, what various members of the executive branch--aided and abetted by huge numbers of Republican, and one goofy independent, members of Congress--are espousing is simply the cult of personality and/or the primacy of the "Party" above all else. Simply put, this un-American belief system and behavioral pattern is that of fascism, whether it has an American face or tries to wrap itself in the American flag, or not. If our erstwhile chief executive does not discipline the nascent fascists running amok within its house, then the administration simply adopts fascism, in the same way that "Company policy" gets changed--not violated--when a company exec repeatedly acts contrary and isn't punished. We have a tried and true and workable system, but it requires something: adherance to the underlying social compact. And our social compact is being literally and figuratively being ignored--and, again, it doesn't matter if, in random details,the "ignorer" is "right". If our elected leaders in the Executive and Legislative Branches don't take action to discipline those who choose to violate the compact and the process, then shame on them. But, more importantly, if no action is taken by those poor, weak souls, and we then don't go to the polls and vote against every sitting Federal Legislator at the earliest opportunity simply for their sin of shirking and hiding from their oath and duty, then shame on us.

B.A. I have stated the same many times. But I get these come backs from people who still put some faith in the Dems or a few select members of the Dems and state, but how can the Dems do any better. They can't get the votes to end funding or to end our involvement in Iraq. My response has been what you have stated. Let's see some out and out bruising of this administration by the Dems. Get down and get dirty even if they have to go on every news / talk show 7 days a week, or call for marches to the steps of the White House. Scream, make noise, holler. Call for impeachment at the top of their lungs. If they can't get those in Congress behind them then turn to the American people, incite them to demand action. Do you recall at one point Biden lost his temper about needing to bring our troops home and many on here applauded this (his) moment. Where is this same passsion and anger from the rest of the Dems. Why can't they multiply this challenge to this administration and not ask, but demand that the troops be withdrawn or redeployed. Nothing is stopping them from doing that except their own lack of integrity. They are bought and paid for puppets of the political system owned and operated by special interests, not the Amerian people.

Dick Cheney can't have it both ways. He's either part of the Executive Branch or he's not. Someone please decide!!

According to the LA Times:

“Cheney’s office drew criticism Thursday for claiming that it was exempt from the reporting requirements because the vice president’s office is not fully within the executive branch. It cited his legislative role as president of the Senate when needed to break a tie.”

This is the same office that went to the Supreme Court in 2004 arguing that the documentation from its Energy Task Force were immune to the FOIA due to Executive Privilege.

But wait, it gets better. This dust-up owes in part to the fact that President Bush signed an Executive Order in 2003 requiring “All government agencies that are part of the Executive Branch” to submit to oversight. But Bush apparently didn’t mean ALL of the executive branch:

“We don’t dispute that the ISOO has a different opinion. But let’s be very clear: This executive order was issued by the president, and he knows what his intentions were,” Fratto said. “He is in compliance with his executive order.”

Fratto conceded that the lengthy directive, technically an amendment to an existing executive order, did not specifically exempt the president’s or vice president’s offices. Instead, it refers to “agencies” as being subject to the requirements, which Fratto said did not include the two executive offices. “It does take a little bit of inference,” Fratto said.

In other words, “Never mind what I signed into law… You know I meant”

Mr. Gardner: I'm sure we can all agree that overpaid celebrities being in the news is not the fault of the president, so please, let's not go there.

I would like to know what you think about everything that has happened the past six years. If it isn't the fault of Bush and his administration for the myriad of horrors that have happened to the: Geneva Conventions, our rights as Americans to privacy, the dismissal of Habeas Corpus, the war in Iraq, etc., then whose fault is it?

Neither Saddam Hussein nor the people of Iraq had anything to do with the attacks on our country on September 11, 2001. Yes, the USS Cole and our embassies were bombed during the Clinton administration, but again, that had nothing to do with Iraq. How do YOU defend the invasion of Iraq and the loss of over 3,500 brave Americans and countless innocent Iraqi's?

Feel free to bring up the Clinton administration for NOT getting bin Laden. We've all been down that road before, and trust me, it leads nowhere. But, you can't blame President Clinton for the errosion of our Constitution, the errosion of our rights afforded to us under the Constitution, and you sure as hell can't blame him for the war in Iraq.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing you of bringing Clinton into this, I'd just thought I'd put it ALL in there in case you wanted to go there like so many before you.

I eagerly await your response.

Paul actually Iran hates their current government. Iran has a large population of young people who are surprisingly pro west. They are all underground and afraid to speak out, in time they will prevail. Iran gave us some help early on in Afghanistan, and after 9/11 tried to show us some sympathy.
Not everything that goes wrong is Dubya's fault but an awful lot can be laid on his doorstep. A few things like extreme rendition, ignoring the FISA courts to wiretap U.S. citizens without a warrant, the,clusterf&%*k that is Iraq today, are all products of W's lack of intellectual curiousity, and laziness.
The current U.S. attorney scandal, Valerie Plame, thye general shredding of the Constitution and rule of law can can be laid squarely on W's shoulders, he is after all the decider. We haven't been hit by terrorists since 9/11? Well 9/11 happened on W's watch. You cannot pin this on Clinton in any way shape or form. The administrations rationale for everything is lame at best and flat out lies at worst. It is only through blind luck that we haven't been hit by terrorists since 9/11 since the chimp in chief (W.) has demonstrated repeatedly that he can't find his ass with both hands.
Stop drinking the kool-aid and wake up and smell the coffee. Like it or not the pendulum is swinging back to the left and your boys the R's are toast.

Patriot, Fort Lauderdale, FL - Well put!! Actually Jon Stewart of the "Daily Show" was commended by former Vice President Al Gore. Gore stated, "The media is so scared of making some mistake, one of the few places someone can go to cut through all the crap is "The Daily Show".

Jon Stewart does a great job of telling it as it is. I understand some could be concerned with the humor; however, he also blasts this collective group of jackasses nightly!! I agree with Al Gore!! The media, in large part, gave George W. Bush an overly extended honeymoon, which allowed much of the BS they did to go unnoticed for too long!!

Paul Gardner - Bush did select Dick Cheney as his running mate .... now that's his fault. The rest is history. I have to agree with an earlier post by CA that posits this thought: If and when serious/organized terrorists want to strike within the US boundries, they will do so with planning, forethought, and impunity. Why? Because they already did so and they still can, and they now have a vast global support network to assist and facilitate their every need. Had Osama been hunted down and destroyed along with his band of Al Qaeda crazies when it was possible rather than creating a terrorist hotbed in Iraq where none had previously existed (along with generating shitloads of ill-will towards the USA) - we might not be having this discussion.

Maybe we've been lucky, and maybe we've been vigilant where it counts, so far - who can really say? Paul, you give the Bush administration altogether too much credit for being considerate of our welfare.

Had that really been the case, we more than likely wouldn't be having this discussion.

Lea Anne McBride, a Cheney spokeswoman, said Emanuel is the one who has to decide. "He can either deal with the serious issues facing our country or create more partisan politics," she said.

White House spokesman Tony Fratto said Sunday that President Bush agrees with Cheney's analysis. The executive order's reporting requirements do not apply to the offices of the president or vice president, Fratto said.

If the truth be known the reasons no comparable acts of terrorism have occurred in the States since 911 cannot be attributed to anything the Bush administration has done or foiled. The purpose of the 911 attack was to get the US embroiled in a conflict in the middle east. They wanted to fight us there so they don't have to fight us here. They also knew it would give the money hungry neo-cons an excuse to head for the oil fields. Bush fell for it, and now they take out American lives daily with the ability to melt into the general population after the acts of terrorism are completed. Could they again attack the US with terror, sure. Do they want too. Perhaps, one day. Will they do so now. Most likely not. Why? Why should they? They can take out as many American lives as they please right in their own back-yard without months of planning and without having to stretch their manpower or supply lines. It's cheaper and much more convienent and efficient. The terrorists give Bush the false impression he is on the offensive when it is they who are on the offensive while placing our troops on the defensive. If you knew anything about how to fight a war Paul, especially a war using terror, you don't confront a tiger in it's den. You get him to come into your neck of the woods and use hit and run tactics until you wear the Tiger out. And then you sneak up on him and kill him, that is unless the Tiger gets smart and gets the hell out of your neck of the words before he bleeds to death. No additional terroists attacks because Bush is fighting them there instead of here. I'm sure everytime the terrorists hear that on their internet connections it takes them several hours to get over their laughing attack.

"Fair & Balanced" baseball? On June 22nd I attended the A's vs Mets game at Shea Stadium. The night had it all, including: a win by the Mets, a Met fan banner giveaway, beautiful baseball weather, Piazza returning in a pre-game left field stroll and interacting with the fans, Glavine going 8 innings and notching number 296, Beltran and Green parking two shots, Reyes running around causing havoc again, good fan interactions in the stands, and much more. It also, however, was "FOX Fan Night". This was a major intrusion on sacred ground. First of all, I am not a "FOX Fan" nor a fan of FOX News. The propaganda spread on this cable network is bad enough, but to have my Met Banner adorned with "FOX News" and "Welcome to FOX Fan Night" is too much for me to bear. I'm trying to figure out how to cover, black out, cut out or otherwise make my banner "useful" as a tool for "Rooting for the Mets" and not as a "Propaganda Tool". I am very disappointed in the Mets management. Bad enough that I have had to look at the "FOX News" billboard all year at Shea (I go to about 20 games), but now I get this banner as I enter Gate C. I beg you to try and help me convince the Mets that being a shill for Fox is not appropriate and, having done so, perhaps the Mets need to provide equal time to "Air America". Baseball is my escape from the endless everyday "spin" presented by the media. The stadiums are sacred ground. Since 1962 when I was 11 years old, I always looked at my Mets as the everyman team and not a team of elitists. If I were inclined to look at them in a political light, I would think the Mets were the Democrats and the Yankees the Republicans. Need proof? Just look how Giuliani adores the Yanks and acts as if the Mets do not exist. I hope Mayor Bloomberg will now be as independent with his baseball interests as he is now with his politics. If looking at them in a "cable" light, I would think the Mets are "Countdown" and the Yankees are not. Obviously, Fox wants to influence the viewing choices of Met fans and future cable news watchers. It is a smart marketing ploy. After all, they now have young fans holding up their banner in hopes that they will confuse "Noise" with "News" when they grow up. My Mets have disappointed me greatly! It is much more political than say ... the "Miss Rhiengold Contests" or "Banner Day Doubleheaders" of the early Mets years.

I would not normall bother to refute "Paul Gardner's" ridiculous posts. But I make an exception for anything that even hints at justifying another stupid, suicidal, pre-emptive war.

What a surprise. The war in Iraq is such a success that the neo-cons can't wait to get started on Iran. Paul Gardener's statistics exaggerate Bush's approval numbers (which are and have been under 30%) and try to pin Congress's numbers solely on the Democrats, when that party holds the Senate by virtue only of a so-called "Independent," Joe Lieberman. The House has a larger Dem majority, but you need both chambers to pass legislation. And then any Dem legislation has to run both the veto and "signing statement" gauntlet. The country disapproves of BOTH parties in Congress because the Republicans have screwed everything up over the past 6 years and the Democrats haven't done anything yet to resolve Iraq. But the new talking point is that the Dems are held in just as low esteem as Bush and his cronies. No point in addressing that silliness, as the 2008 election (if it happens and it's not "Roved," will take care of that argument.

There is no credible evidence that Iran has a nuclear weapon. There is no credible evidence that the Iranian-American living next door or in your classroom or running the local convenience store is a terrorist waiting to kill you. That won't stop these power-mad authoritarian "leaders" or the sheeple who blindly follow them from making up whatever crapola they want and throwing onto this blog and others, just to get their poison into the system. Pretty soon it will be the "imminent threat" and the "Iranian mushroom cloud" and the link between Iran and 9/11.

Sop let me say it here: Iran has never attacked the United States. Iran had nothing to do with 9/11. No credible entity argues that Iran has a nuclear arsenal with which to attack the US or its neighbors. The Iranian hostage situation, which is the most memorable anti-US action on the part of Iranians, was an outgrowth of the Iranian revolution against the Shah, who was seen as a puppet of the US. That took place 28 years ago, and as Bill in Rochester noted above, many Iranians are as dissatisfied with their government as we are here. Or at least the thinking 72 or 3% of us are.

As to the idea that the "media" is liberal: The NY Times and Washington Post gave Bush/Cheney a free pass on the lies that drummed up support of the war. The whole media establishment got "embedded" in the invasion and brought back breathless support for the war. They stood still for the staged toppling of Saddam's stature, the "Mission Accomplished" moment, the weird "everything is peachy in New Orleans" staged event. In this town, we can hear one local and one national "liberal" on a radio dial that has Hannity, Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, Michael Reagan, Neal Boortz and Billo. The 50,000 watts mega station has one "liberal" whose show runs opposite the Steelers on Sunday afternoon. The other "liberal" got shipped to the sister station which is now a "man show" format with no political talk. We have two papers here, one more liberal but with op-ed balance and which is duly critical of the Democratic machine in the city. The other "paper" is a right-wing extremist rag run by one of the guys who financed the witch hunt against Clinton. So the idea that the "media" is overwhelmingly liberal is false. To say so is to either repeat some idiotic con talking point or to fail to use minimal powers of observation or to tell a big fat whopping lie.

Who should be impeached first? Gonzo first, because then Bush would have to nominate a new AG and the Dems could block another incompetent, unqualified lapdog from being appointed. The next step would be to hold Watergate-style hearings on Cheney and put that sucker under so much scrutiny he can't pull off the next pre-emptive war.

What scares me is that Bush, Cheney, and the pundits who support them (Bill Kristol, today, on Fox) don't care what happens to the country. Endless debt, a dictatorship, thousands of military men and women killed or maimed, the destruction of the army--nothing stops their drive for power and money.

The office of the Vice President is not a part of the executive branch? Since when did an executive order take precedence over the constitution? It seems strange to me that an investigation into the security of classified documents was prevented from looking at the office of the Vice President since the Vice President's chief of staff was convicted of obstruction of justice in the investigation of the outing of a CIA covert operative.

It seems as though Dick and his cronies have found a way of not being caught in another cover up.

It reminds me of the kid that is teaching you a card game and forgets to tell you all the rules until it is to their advantage.

Too bad they tore down the 'Spit and Whistle'. I was given a shot of Creme de Menthe there, for an upset stomach from too much Tartar Sauce, and it made me projectile vomit a couple of partially digested Jade Green Walleye tails across the dance floor. I was seven and the only one of the 100+ fishermen who didn't get a kick out of it. I can still eat Walleye, the best tasting freshwater fish, but anything mint, immediately takes me back to the 'Spit and Whistle'.

Buzz: You are correct regarding the recruting issues. Ben Laden and others like him are certainly not stupid. Call them mad, cruel, inhuman, terrorists, whatever you wish, but they are not dumb. Look what happened to the French in Vietnam and the US in Vietnam. Look what happened to the Russians in Afghanistan and now the US in Afghanistan and Iraq. Heck, look at the British during the American Revolution. Our people were called terrorists, but we called ourselves Freedom fighters. And there was no way that the British were going to succeed fighting that kind of conflict in a place so far away from their home bases. Don't believe a minute these folks don't also study history to determine what works and what does not work when it comes to bringing a major super-power to its knees. They know exactly what they are doing. Oh, from time to time they may send a cell or two to the US to initiate a terrorist act, but remember it took 4-5 years to plan the 911 attack. These are very very patient people. Will they hit the US again. Sure they will. But the fact is they like us right where they have us, in Afghanistan and Iraq and that was their intent. They will attempt to wear us down until we go home. In the interim they kill several thousand US soldiers in their back-yard where they can easily recruit and train additional terrorists. They also give the US a bloody nose in the eyes of the rest of the world where many now see us as the agressors and occupiers. It is an ideal situation for them even if they lose 40, 50, 100 people now and then. For every 1 terrorists killed in these places they are replaced by 5. It is a no win situation. Yes, 911 was measnt to shock the US and the world, but it was also intended to get the exact reaction out of this country (administration) that they got. They have to date achieved their objectives while we (the greatest and most powerful country in the world) look like a bunch of lost children in a forest that we should have never entered in the first place. I have suggested many times how you fight these people, but it seems those in power only have one agenda, nation build, attempt to control the oil, try and establish an American presence in the center of the troubled middle east, establish bases closer to Israel for their protection, etc. It will not work. We know it and the terrorists know it.

If you want to see the remains of the jet that hit the pentagon the images can be found on the net, everything from beer can sized fragments on the outside of the building to the complete cargo compartment with luggage wadded up like it had gone through a hay bailer and compressed into a massive lump deep inside the building.

As for why the Trade Center buildings collapsed, structural steel loses 60% of its strength at the temperature of burning jet fuel.
A recent overpass collapse after a fuel tanker explosion demonstrated this very nicely.

If you'd come around more often, you might find that we do talk about more things than the evil doers occupying the White House, however, since they are pretty much destroying America as we know it, it would stand to reason that we won't sit idly by watching it happen. FYI, most of us that protest on here do not merely protest ONLY here. We write, we call, others actually have protested in the streets.

George: As much as I truly dislike Bush, Cheney, et.al, I'm not buying into any conspiracy theories of September 11.

I wasn't as close as you were that morning-but close enough. My husband and then 3 young boys and I flew into Dover from RAF Lakenheath, England, on September 9. We were going to FT Bragg on leave for my brothers commission in the Army.

Anyway, my husbands job prior to London was working across the 395 at the Pentagon Annex. For 2 years, my husband spent several hours everyday at the Pentagon, and we had several friends that we were going back to visit that morning. We called our friend at the Pentagon to see if they had secured the building following the planes hitting the WTC, but they hadn't. Our friend took our license plate number of our rental so we could park in the main parking lot.

Anyway, two of the men that worked with the main person we were visiting, saw the plane. Our friend heard it before it hit. The last body to be found was of a Navy Captain that both my husband and I had the honor of serving for and with in the 80's.

Anyway-I can't make it a short story-ever. There would have to be way too many people in on the whole thing. Knowing human nature, particularly that of Americans-people really can't keep their mouths shut.

As I said before. I don't like Bush, his administration or his policies, however, I see the attacks of September 11 for what I truly think they are. Acts of terrorism committed by radical Islamists.

Yes, I do blame Bush for his failure to ignore the warnings-but we'll never know if anybody could have stopped it from happening, anymore than those on board the flights would have thought that those planes would have been flown into buildings.

I do blame him for NOT 'staying the course' in Afghanistan and continuing the hunt for bin Laden and the rest of his ilk that supported the terrorists and their barbaric, deadly attacks. However, the ones ultimtely responsible for the attacks of September 11 are the terrorists themselves!

People that have better things to do don't generally park themselves in front of the TV when the View is on.
I used to watch the Daily Show but it just stopped being funny long before they went on their present course.At least they are honest in saying its where more people get their news than probably should.

I've noticed a rather strange bias for reporting anti-American propaganda as fact, even on PBS.
Awhileback they did an interview with what was supposedly the guy in the hood photo from Abu Ghraib, they hung on his every word. I could tell instantly that this guy was lying. Later on I was proven correct.
They've then tried to pass him off as another guy who had the same experiance.

But I find it interesting that whereas conservative talk show hosts can also be just as negative and not always he rah - rah America hosts, why is it the conservative talk show hosts seem to draw the ratings. If people get tired of hearing the negative and want to be picked up emotionally and otherwise (which they do) I just don't see the draw these conservative hosts get over the liberal hosts. On the other hand, many of those who have to break in as talk show hosts from the left do tend to be whiney asses. On the other hand, many of the conservative talk show hosts can be very gruff and abusive. You would think that the ratings percentages would somewhat match those of the current administration for conservative versus liberal talk shows or radio shows. They don't. Conseervative talk shows and radio shows enjoy a much higher rating then 19%. Anyone want to give a try as to why that is. I have one theory. Alhough people tend to state they want change they really want to be left alone in peace and for those in powert to just maintain a middle of the ground status quo. Progressives on the other hand talk change all the time, and even though therre may be a legitimate call for change, people tend not to like change. That may be a weak theory but it may have something to do with it in addition to the lack of really good liberal hosts personalities out there. I know Al Frankin tried it. But give me a break. Frankin just comes across as a weasel. Perhaps they need to put Bill Mahr on prime time as a liberal talk show host. I bet his ratings would be quite high. Not a weasle and quite entertaining.

Jamie...I am not for conspiracy theories or Bush was behind the attacks...nothing like that at all...if you say a plane, American Flight 77, did not hit the Pentagon, the story starts to unravel...so what happened to Flight 77, etc? but since I was so close to the scene, all the models offered up, just don't make sense...one model has the plane at ground level going into the Pentagon...again, if that was true, what happened to the wings? If Bushworld wasn't built on so many lies, I would never think about what I saw and what happened again...that is what really bugs me, all the lies after 9-11...the 9-11 Commission was a joke...lastly, one thing I will never forget about that Tuesday, is all the people in uniforms, dress blues, greens, whites, etc, running past me, some bleeding, some covered in soot, screaming and yelling...I was running to the Pentagon as they were running away...images I would like to forget...but Brenda's post brought back the memories, and I hope her first sentence is never proven right...

CA...I really don't know why most talk radio is conservative...why this is no "liberal" yakker to balance out O'Really, Bimbaugh, Hannity, Coultergeist, Boortz, etc...sure there is NPR, Al Franken, Rachel Maddow, Air America, but I cannot name another person on Air America, or another progressive radio yakker or show......and I only know about Rachel from watching Countdown...does Bill Moyers count?...as much as I and many Countdown bloggers hate to admit it, Bill O'Really is still the highest rated cable talk show...although his radio show is sinking quickly in the ratings...I occasionally try to watch Bill went it replays at 11:00 EST...I feel like Alex in A Clockwork Orange, strapped into the chair, eyes held open with metal devices, watching the horror show...Michelle Malkin makes me want to shoot myself...after five minutes, I am done...and his body language expert is another joke...yet, people love his show...I saw a recent ratings list, and Jessica Hahn, I mean Paula Zahn is catching up to Keith...Bill is one, Nancy Lack of Grace is second, Keith, and Paula...not sure what that says about America when Bill and Nancy dominate the 8:00 hour on cable...but I really have no idea...Scott maybe right...although?...several fellow writers and professors have been talking about the issue...and we cannot come up with an answer as to why 90 percent of talk radio is conservative...so I turn to my fellow bloggers, Any Ideas?

George, I sincerely believe a plane hit the Pentagon. Maybe there was a bomb and not a plane, and maybe my brain wants to remain naive about it-I seriously don't know.

What I do know, howeve, is that everytime I see those photos, whether they be the ones on t.v. or the few that I took that morning, it never goes out of my head that we were taking our three little boys to that building that very morning. I can't possibly wrap my head around the idea that someone in my own government, that is supposed to be their to protect me, would somehow be involved in killing my friends and fellow military brethren.

I still have the outfits my kids were wearing that day: My twins had the little onesie like outfits from Target that had USA-2001, and my eldest had the t-shirt like it.

I can still hear my husband breaking down when our friend from the Pentagon finally called the next day to tell him she was okay. Being at Ft Bragg with the M-16 mounted Humvees sitting outside my brothers front door, the soldiers walking around with weapons nearly at the ready....I could go on.

I know my story isn't unique, but I guess for me it's better that my mind won't believe anything nefarious happened other than foreign terrorists attacking this country-without the complicity of my fellow Americans.

If you listen to people from the actual day, they say that it wasn't a commercial airliner. We were all so shocked we didn't hear about building seven being "pulled" that day. Just watch those documentaries and if you can get the CNN Remembers video if you can. The broadcasts alone if you listen to them will tell you... and it isn't just CNN but all the Stations FOX included.. you just might take a dump in your undies...

Keith needs to do something on his show about all this stuff, maybe everyone would start doing the addition. He can get those excerpts I am sure! We smoked (Camels, not Cornsilk), we drank (Dan's dad always had at least four or five gallons of Bourbon), we cursed (*****'s dad was a Preacher), and we killed any critter who crossed our path, with arrows, pellets, bb's, and .22 shorts, skinned it and roasted it while we waited for the fish to bite. Squirrels ((like nutty turkey), Possums (oily and only in a pinch), rabbits (stuff them full of sage and cattail roots), rattlesankes (salt the heck out of them and you might taste something), and once we ate a Mudhen (Brown Grebe,...it tasted like...Mud, duh.) We all grew up and went to The Vietnam. I know the WWII guys were our secondary Hero's and it was them who encouraged our behavior, frowned on now by an overprotective society (if you've got the money). They had seen war and wanted us to be prepared for anything, be a litle rough around the edges, and stick together. The last thing is the most important. I worry the kids of today are discouraged from that. Encouraged to seek status in friends and not seek shared senses of adventure. All the problems we talk about on this blog, will still be theirs to deal with when they grow up. We need to trust the little Hickleberrys, like we needed to be trusted when we were Huckleberrys, especially in this complicated, ever newer world. I'm not sure if I'm like the pessimist who didn't think it could get any worse, or the optimist who thought it could.

Re: your post on the Pentagon - I'm not ready to jump in either, but I have many many unanswered questions about the Pentagon as well as WTC. The 9/11 Commission Report didn't answer them - I smelled cover up especially when all the professors and experts had unanswered questions and all the evidence started disappearing.

The real question that should be answered by the Pentagon is this: What happened to the film from the 100 or so cameras that should have captured the event? Why was the security camera footage from a nearby store confiscated directly after the attack and why has that footage disappeared?

Other questions: Where the hell was NORAD? Trillions and trillions of US taxpayer dollars spent on "defense" and not one intercepter in the air while US Jetliners are making U-turns in our skies? They can't track jets with the transponders turned off? Anybody heard of radar? It's how the Brits knew Nazi bombers were coming so they could evacuate people into underground bunkers during the Blitz.

Just asking. We deserve the truth.

It would have taken far more out then it did, there was no wingspan at the Pentagon. If you even look at the one and only video the Pentagon lets us see, excuse me but that "airplane" has only a SINGLE SMOKE TRAIL, also trails from "airplanes" only are seen because of it's altitude. Oh, and let's not forget they did not learn how to land the planes, he did an awful darn good job of maneuvering that sucker like that now didn't he for not knowing how to land! There is also tapes from where the Firefighters that were in the Towers saying to their dispatch that it would only take TWO HOSES to put the small fires out. Fires only do well when they are getting oxygen, a fire without oxygen smokes. Take a look at those buildings there was NO HUGE FIRE except for the initial one when the planes hit the buildings. Read up about Larry Silverstein who had bought those buildings a few weeks before this all happened, he paid 3.2 billion for the WTCs. He had 3.55 billion coverage on them and doubled that saying that each building was an individual attack. The buildings had asbestos that needed to be removed, which would have cost I think it was over a billion dollars. Oh, and psst, guess who was the person that was the head of the company that did security for the WTC.. his name is Marvin Bush ;)

Good questions but the answers are simpler than you may believe.
Norad is aimed outward looking for threats coming from outside the US, not from our own commercial air traffic.
Jets flying training missions were on the tail of the second jet but not cleared to fire on civilians over crowded city streets.
The Pentagon jetliner had an interceptor zeroing in less than two minutes from target lock when it crashed.

Transponders are to identify an aircraft among a multitude of radar images. Only very small aircraft need one just to be seen on Radar.

There was no indication that the highjackers intended to crash the first jet. It was assumed that the first crash was a warning that they meant business and might still offer to release the passengers of the second jet in exchange for the Blind Sheik and other prisoners.
Nothing in any FBI or CIA analysis had indicated the possibilty of the 911 events. It was a new ballgame.

My SIL also deployed to Iraq right now for 15 months, and she served in Afghanistan for a year. My nephew is on his second deployment to Iraq, the first being for a year, and now this one extened to 15 months. I've had a cousin and many friends deployed there. I know first hand what this man has done to our country-and it hasn't been pleasant.

I've not been silent on here about the lies that this administration has told, particularly for the reasons for going into Iraq. Therefore, if you care to question what my thoughts, feelings and/or opinions are regarding Bush and Co, I suggest you read more than one post of mine.

Alot of the Intel was wrong a lot of the rest was not.
The Iraqi Intelligence service was experimenting with Mustard gases and knockout gases derived from anesthetics.
Ricin Manufacture has not been ruled out. Traces were found along with machinery to produce it from Castor Beans.
Long range Missile programs were uncovered.
Plans by one of Saddam's sons to send WMD technicians and scientist to Palestinian terrorist organizations were uncovered.
The same news programs that hawked the wares of Iraqi defectors now do the same for insurgent plants.
Hundreds of supposedly destroyed Chemical bombs and warheads were found.
The 600 or so Kuwaiti POWS appear to have been used as guinea pigs for biological warfare experiments along with an untold number of Iraqis.

Perhaps you misunderstood. If my words were not clear it was the jetliner that "crashed" into the Pentagon not the Jet Fighter.

The Jets chasing the second WTC jetliner had been flying ground attack training missions in New Jersey, the same sort of training missions which causes the recent fire in New Jersey. They were not specialized Interceptor aircraft and not properly armed for aerial combat since it had been a training misson.

The Fighter that almost caught up with the Pentagon jetliner had been scrambled along with a few others to knock it down if the order came through..
Bringing down either the WTC flights over city streets or the Pentagon flight over the highway could have resulted in dozens if not hundreds of civilian deaths on the ground. It would be like using a flamethrower on all the occupants of a classroom to stop one of the Colombine shooters.
The chain of command necessary to authorize firing on civilian aircraft is a long one. Only when directly over a designated military installation could it be justified at that time.

You may remember the worldwide stink of South Korean Flight 007. Or the post 911 shootdown of a civilian balloon competing in a cross country race by the Russians after it drifted into a military reservation.

Jamie, I appologize for making all of that seem as if it was just for you alone with my comment it wasn't. I get rambling and tend to use you alot when it is meant for that masses.. Forgive me. I understand that you have family over in Iraq and Afghanistan. What about Tillman? I bring that up because you don't think they would kill our own, but they do! Say it was a mistake and go on like nothing every happened, they lied to his family. "Friendly Fire my butt, it's murder. People with power will deem what is necessary to accomplish what they want and step on whoever even helps them. Example: Scooter Libby. They may pardon him but he has been convicted. To do what, save their own butts. All I ask is that people add up things. I have read your post and I do know you are up on everything that is going on. Again I appologize for comments that may have hurt you. Look at Cheney he still gets out there and spews that Saddam had WMDs, the man couldn't even hit a target in Israel accurately.
I just have some questions, have you seen 9/11 Mysteries, Freedom to Facism, and Loose Change? They are all online to watch.
Have you read about the Bush family and their involvment with and their support of Hitler?
Have you read about Hitler and seen how he got the people to follow him?
Have you seen the documentary Hacking Democracy or Enron. Wanna see something that will make you sick. When you see how they stole your electricity in California to make money and laughed about it GESH!

Maybe those who don't want the mass of people to think otherwise? It's so easy to say things are a conspiracy theory. To me I look at what I see, I don't just take one persons word for it.. like I said I go check things out to a stronger degree. If people go look up things on their own, without taking others words, everyone discovers the truth. I always when seeing "guest" on shows check out their backgrounds, and learn about them, and believe me that's another shocker to see what those people are involved in. The more I dig the more I've learned and seen that makes things not so surprising to me anymore. Get angry yep I do that, cause it makes me sick to the core. Why, because people don't want to believe that the people we think are protecting us don't care at all, as long as they get what they want. Big Business take out smaller companies to have a monopoly and no competition. They would have never even got off the ground with those wars without coming up with something so horrific and terrorizing to get the people to back them. What Saddam did over 20 years ago, should have been dealt with at the time, but no someone like Rumsfeld was over their selling him arms and the stuff he was using. Papa Bush himself was in the CIA. These people are the conspiracy alone, there is no theory, this stuff is documented.
Another thing is they outted a CIA agent, why because her husband came back with the truth that would have ruined their lies to go to war with Iraq. I have spoken to some military people that have said they were there just guarding the pipelines in Afghanistan.
I believe that Tillman was taken out cause he knew some truth to what was going on over there, it's my guess talking against their lies. I don't think any Life anywhere should be taken for the purpose to make money for big war machine businesses, oil companies, natural gas companies, which is what is happening.

P A, and a whole newspaper too that was between the steel beams of the WTC, that dated back while it was being built. They fired a guy at UL for speaking out about the building being tested to withstand extreme heat.
Let's go to the Empire State Building that was hit by a Bomber. It didn't take it down. There has NEVER been any large building that has come down from intense fires, it takes out floors yes but the steel beams remain. Those buildings fell into themselves, just as any other demolition that was set to do so. There are people who were there and spoke out about what was going on before 9/11, like them shutting down the electricity, removing bomb sniffing dogs. To me using common sense would say it stinks.
There were explosions and if you listen to people in the streets that day on the news, they say they heard numerous of them, some right before the planes hit. Even commentators with the news on the ground said they heard them.
In Building 7 the FBI, CIA and other government agencies had the paperwork for the investigation of Enron. Enron... Bush supporter, Oil and Energy Company hmmm why would I think there would be something wrong with these pictures? There was important information in Building 7 it had minimal damage but Larry Silverstein said to "pull it". "Pull It" is a term used by people in the demolition companies, how were they able to set it up so soon, unless it had been done before 9/11. There is stuff online from the news agencies from that day, of course unless they have been removed.. I've seen things online that dissapear from one day to the next. That wasn't the same as the "story" we got from the government.
There were many other cameras from gas stations etc, near the pentagon, all they give us is a really bad film that is mostly blocked my some brick thing, to where you can't see what it actually was. I can guess that the reason behind this is because they can say it's a conspiracy theory. If they wanted to prove it they could, but they choose not to, WHY?
If any of us follow blindly and not even consider any possibility of something happening because we are afraid, or don't want to believe they would do this to US, then we have no one to blame but ourselves. Nothing happens on this earth, that isn't planned by man. Planning means conspiring, and like I said these same people that are involved with the running of this country has been in political positions for decades. Check and see how long they've been at it.. ya can't tell me someone who would want to plan taking over a country, having so much time in the government could not do it. If it isn't obvious with taking away our rights, and them setting themselves up to where they can't be penalized for what they have done, then truly through all those years look what have they accomplished.. it's smacking us all in the face everyday.
I haven't read Steven Jones, but guess I need to do that. Thanks for the info George and PA.

Wayne...the planes that hit the North and South Towers left perfect indentions of the wings and planes...just like the Wiley Coyote...go back and look...both planes crashed into the glass windows and went into the buildings...one shot shows one plane almost exiting the building and then wings and all would have rained down...since the planes stayed inside the both Towers, Wayne, no wings went flying down to the street...your logic stated wings fold in when making contact with an object...pictures of the Towers show perfect wing imprints unlike the Pentagon....you don't need to be a structural engineer to see the wing impressions in the Towers Wayne...and again, the planes hitting the towers left an impression just like the Wiley Coyote cartoons...the Pentagaon was not a glass structure...the Pentagon was not a glass framed building...so where did the wings go Wayne...you need better examples Wayne....

George, people tend to forget things I think. They do need to revist what happened that day even if it is hard to stomach. I had an awful time going back and watching CNN Remembers 9/11. Once I started actually listening and paying closer attention to the news casts it made me feel even sicker than the day it happened. I can only stomach a few minutes at a time. Plus it makes me even more mad that they might get away with what they did, through all the brainwashing stuff they were putting out there later. Their Official Story, I just don't think they give average people credit, and it's always easy to call them a nut. What's funny is that they'll all listen to the ones calling others nut cases and just follow their words and copy them like parrots.

The main spar of the aircraft wing is the strongest structural member of almost every aircraft design.
As you pointed out the Towers were made of glass framed in metal, not poured Concrete reinforced with Kevlar anti-blast shields.
The Coyote would not leave a coyote shaped hole in a concrete wall if he hit it hard enough to penetrate.
The velocity and energy of the aircraft striking the homogenous material of the Concrete wall transformed the aircraft into a shredded lump compressed into a slug of metal much like a frangible bullet. It only stays together due to compressive forces.
The wings folded back, what was left of them, along side the craft as the mainspars collapsed.
An analogy you might recognise would be the fletchings of an arrow shot through a cardboard target.
A stronger fletching such as the vanes of a crossbow bolt would leave their marks but the older style feather fletchings would fold back against the shaft and follow the rest of the arrow through the hole.

Photos taken at the scene show a debris field of smaller fragments, some several feet across. Some from impact before striking the building others blow back out of the hole. Witnesses say small fragments fell for about two minutes, probably less than that but no doubt it seemed longer.

I've seen the remaining steel girders of a burned out building twisted like pretzels.
I've also seen cement blocks vitrified by intense heat of exploding drums of laquer thinner till they crumbled to the touch like sugar cubes.
When the WTC pancaked each floor that fell put hundreds of times the normal static forces on the frame below causing each to collapse in turn.
as enture floors of the building flattened in turn the air and loose wreckage of each floor blew outward like a cannon shot or perhaps like a clap.
I've heard an auto crash that sounded just like a dynamite blast from a distance.
You just have no concept of the forces at work.
