Will someone show me evidence that has been found that there ever was a conspiracy to out Plame? Especially evidence that involves the President of The United States?

I am asking for facts, not opinions of how nasty Karl Rove is or how diabolical Dick Cheney has become. Has someone else been indicted that I am not aware?

No one, and I mean no one should be at all surprised. The man has no morals or virtues. He has no problem letting an 18 year old black kid go to jail for 10 years for receiving a blow job and he has no problem letting 2 hispanic border patrol agents go and rot in jail for actually securing our borders for 11 and 12 years respectively, for shooting a drug smuggler. Gee, I wonder if these "criminals" were white would they have a President Bush to intervene.

Oh and lets not forget that it was the lowest ranking, enlisted people, not the senior officers and senior leadership (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gen. Abizaid) that get to go and rot in jail for the Abu Ghraib scandal. I guess Bush's signing statement allowing him to allow torure to happen regardless of the what the law states doesn't cover those that actually are being forced to do it by their superiors.

Judging by your post I question your ability to separate fact from opinion, or even accept facts as facts, but lets see what we can do.

First off, Libby was convicted for perjury. If you keep track of the news, you would know that the jury was extremely sympathetic towards Libby, in a statement they even said he was the fall guy for others in the administration, but that they had no choice but to convict him on a good number of the accounts because the evidence that was presented showed that he had lied under oath. In the latest appeal today before Bush commuted his sentence, the judges unanimously agreed that Libby should go to prison and not wait pending appeal. The system of law worked, until Bush stepped in and commuted his sentence.

Now, as for the outing, there is no argument now that Plame was not under cover. Information from the CIA was released that stated so, and thus someone or a group of people undermined our national security by outing Plame and thus committed a crime against our country. There is ample evidence that when Wilson published his article that challenged this administrations assertions about Saddam, and with facts that the administration didn't want to be known, evidence shows parts of the administration were obsessed with trying to find a way to discredit Wilson. If I remember correctly, Cheney even had a copy of the article with notes scribbled along the margins indicating a need to discredit Wilson.
They chose to do this by leaking Plames identity to the press and trying to claim that she sent her husband on this quest for information. This of course is untrue since it was Cheney who requested the information (specifically about yellow cake i think it was from Niger?) and Plame was not in a position in the CIA where she could authorize her husband being appointed to collect this information, all she could do was suggest.
Now, this all comes back to Libby who was brought up on perjury charges because he protected this administration by not giving the information that would have allowed for prosecution of those traitors of our country who undermined our national security by outing one of our own agents.

I guess I entered the wrong profession. I should have become a Washington politico and sought fame and fortune by being an absolute nerd under such an administration. I taught and worked in education for over 47 years. I was aiming for 50 when a complaint was filed (I had used the F word inappropriately) and I was asked to leave. I was stunned. It turned out later that the person who complained was a bit neurotic but my days were numbered. Oh, I consulted a lawyer and learned what i could get out of all if it. It wasn't worth it. I have known people to sue and win, and yet, they lose. I just opted to retire "gracefully." Yeah, right!

Would you believe that five years later, the person who filed the complaint called me and asked for my help! I was flabbergasted. But I digress. I should have been in the Bush administration. I could write a book, get exonerated for being misunderstood and the whole shebang. Am I being silly. Perhaps. When I saw this "breaking news" on another site, I had to come back to my News Hole family to attend the wake held in the honor of Lady Justice.

No one. NO ONE in the entire world knows how to game the legal system like this bunch of criminals in the WH.

I am not a conspiracy theorists but here is what I think about this.

1) At any time up to trial (and maybe even up to sentencing) Mr. Libby could have come clean and admitted his obstruction. He did not.

2) At any time during the investigation, trial, and sentencing, Mr. Libby could have been in contact with the WH who could have told him to go ahead and tell the whole truth. They did not.

3) Ms. Libby made a startling comment after sentencing that Mr. Libby would not go down alone.

4) The administration allowed the appeals to go forward to give other Rs the chance to reverse either the guilty decision or the sentencing but these Rs actually upheld the law.

5) Mr. Libby will spend not one day in jail.

That adds up in my view to some powerful knowledge that is being protected. There are no words harsh enough in my mind to denounce this whole administration. This very case is why, in my opinion, Mr. Gonzales has held the support of Mr. Bush in the face of absolute demonstration of unworthiness. He needed to have a schill to get a legal rebuttal in place.

Something rotten in Denmark? No. Something putrid indeed in Washington DC.

Fine, then if Bush has no problem commuting the sentence of Libby, why not anyone else? Let him commute the sentence of every single person in jail and prison.

Fact remains, Libby was convicted and the law was upheld until Bush commuted his sentence. Yes he has that power, but the fact that he is using it to free one of his own shows how this administration feels itself to be above the rule of law and that there definitely is something to hide.

Through this and other actions this administration has shown itself to be wholly anti-American. Anyone who continues to excuse this administration for every thing it has done need to stop and think: Is it more important to support ones party, no matter what the cost to one's country? Or do these people just not care for what America stands for anymore?

Another theory is that there was no crime. Armitage outed Plame by accident and the Washington DC power players took the name and ran, journos and politicos alike. The actualy crime was committed by someone other than Libby but he was caught in what prosecuters call, "perjury traps."

So to say, "definitely," is simple bias, blind devotion to a hatred so deep that logical thought can no longer be presented or you are just too lazy to become informed about the law.

Commuting a sentence is an act of compassion. Libby has to shell out 250K and remain a convicted felon for the rest of his life. I feel perjury for a crime that was never shown to have existed is paid by that punishment and jail time was overkill. I know it is my opinion and at least I know the difference between an opinion and fact.

I am so tired of this case being called a perjury trap. All Scooter Libby had to do was tell the truth, and say where he learned about Valerie Plame's identity. It is also undisputed that he did leak her name to the NYT reporter, Judith Miller. She just never wrote about it. He did leak, and he did lie to the grand jury. I am also tired of so many people saying he was such a dedicated, smart and well-educated man. So what if he went to Yale. Another person that works in the White House went there too. He was idiotic enough to think that Patrick Fitzgerald would believe his Tim Russert story, rather than say he learned it from his boss. All he had to do was tell the truth. He was afraid, and couldn't handle the truth. (OK so I borrowed that from Jack Nicholson and "A Few Good Men"). He deserved his time. The President also didn't go far enough to please his right wing buddies, by leaving the fine and conviction in place. Or will that be dealt with in a successive pardon after the '08 election. Hopefully, Libby's bar associations act quickly to suspend him from the practice of law, thus forcing another capitulation prior to the election. What a sad day for America. when will this ever end. If the only result of the Bush administration is the destruction of the Republican Party, then it might be worth it. Otherwise, we are paying way too high a price for this, in terms of our world stature, and constituional protections. Why not pardon the low-ranking soldiers who were carrying out the orders for torture in Abu Ghraib. Why not show some real courage?

There is a fine line between being overemotional and being passionately concerned about the future of our country.

Two things:

1)As a very pragmatic person, at one time I would have agreed with your assessment that 1/09 would show a new administration and the continuity of our country. The very fact that I don't at all feel comfortable that that smooth transition will occur is representative of how uneasy I am about the way this administration has flouted the constitution.

2) In addition, even if they do leave peacefully, the precedents set by the behavior of this administration and, to date, no formal accounting by the justice system of that behavior, is, in essence, a de facto approval of the behavior. We will see it again in future administrations where it will be even more aggregious. (I looked that up in an online dictionary and couldn't find a correct spelling!!)

Re this specific case - Mr. Libby chose his sentencing by not ever coming clean. At any point, he could have mitigated the severity judged on him. He chose not too. Therefore, in my opinion, "compassion" had nothing to do with Mr. Bush's decision to commute jail time. The knowledge that we are asserting that Mr. Libby is protecting probably has little to do with the Plame case and everything to do with keeping Mr. Cheney out of jail. That is, of course, only an opinion.

Why didn't the Bush Administration use their values of compassion and love to respectfully disagree with Ambassador Wilson's report that Iraq sought Yellowcake? Why did Cheney look for ways to discredit the report? Why, during the testimony of outed CIA agent Valerie Plame, did a Republican question her about her political affiliation rather than ask about the facts surrounding the TREASONOUS ACTIONS that nobody has been charged with?

Bush said he'd unite, he'd be a compassionate conservative, that we weren't in the Nation-building business, and that the rule of law would be used to fight terrorism. He seems to have done the exact opposite, while using the fears of terrorism, gay equality, and a judicial system would prosecute Republicans in order to build his support base.

Of course we're pissed off. Bush, with the help of Neo-Cons, are trying to build an Autocracy. And there is no such thing as Compassion, Love, or Mercy shown towards those who reject such a government.

The outing of Plame as a covert CIA agent was to punish Joe Wilson for revealing that part of the Bush/Cheney argument for a pre-emptive war against Iraq was, in fact, a lie. Had the American people been told the truth--that the invasion of Iraq was the neo-con first step in shaping the Middle East part of an American empire--there would not have been much support for a war. Sorry, bud. The sun won't rise for 3,583 dead Americans, killed in Bush/Cheney's war. And while it will rise for the 26,350 wounded in that war, many of them will see the sun minus a leg, an arm, their sight, or part of their brain function. A minimum of 66,807 Iraqis will never see the sun shine again, either. And while you may be able to forget they never attacked us, I can't and won't.

Bush and Cheney lied, and thousands died. There's no clemency when you are killed in action. Bush bleeds for poor Scooter the convicted felon (having gone through the justice system) spending 30 months in prison, but he (who went AWOL from the Guard) can send the Reserves and National Guard back again and again and again to put their lives on the line.

If I remember correctly, Martha Stewart served every day of a five month sentence for lies told to federal agents when she wasn't even under oath. People called that a light sentence, at the time.

Scooter Libby lied under oath to a grand jury about his part in telling members of the press the identify of a covert agent of the United States. Ultimately, the CIA confirmed that Plame was covert, and that confirmation was given to the Congress in a formal statement by the CIA, and by Plame herself.

Comparing these two instances, there is no sense in which I would see Libby's sentence as "harsh." Rather, commuting the sentence is the act of a chief executive who condones perjury or who recognizes that his administration called on Mr. Libby to break the law.

We should be outraged that this administration views the rule of law with so little respect. Perjury by a public official in a case with national security implications is far more contemptible than lies relating to possible insider trading.

All that said, my Country is a democratic republic. The only coup that we need is an election. We who are outraged today need to organize tomorrow, and vote in 2008.

My initial reaction, emotional as it was, still rings true. LOL in fact the part I put in caps to emphacize it got quoted by some NeoConJob here as "journalizm". It ain't! It's just the first reaction of a pissed off patriotic American who thinks that this administration had sunk about as low as they can go. Nope - plenty more bottom left.

This goes beyond arrogance or swagger or incompetence or cronyism.

Mr. President - this was your EMPLOYEE! He did as he was told by outing a covert agent and her brass plate company because you and your administration were being embarrassed by the truth told by her husband. Mr. Libby LIED about it. Was he ordered to lie - to obstruct the investigation? We'll never know.

Mr. President: What's to stop you or Fourth-Branch-of-Government Cheney from personnaly ordering any employee at any time to perform any illegal act that you want and then let them off the hook? Bush did not commute Libby's jail sentence because he said he felt he was innocent based on any new evidence or facts. He commuted Libby's jail sentence stating because he felt the sentence was to harsh and excessive. Therein lies an admission by Bush himself that Libby was guilty of perjury. If not then why not a full pardon including elimination of the 2 years probation and the $250,000 fine. And the sentence was the same that others have received for perjury and that are on the books. The presiding judge did not add to what the law already calls for in such cases. The judge followed the law in the sentencing. So screw your facts SH as to whether Libby was guilty or not. That is your opinion as well as others no matter what they believe. The fact is (and this is how the American people will see it), is that this President just told the judge, the jury and the American people to stick it up their ass.

(sounds like the title of a French novel), we omit asking the one important question that should be asked.
Why does the President have complete unfettered Pardon powers for any and all reasons? Is this not
"judicating from the Throne" (versus "Legislating from the Bench"). What purposes does this power serve other that to make a mockery of the seperation of powers? Presidents of both parties have shown time and again their inablitity to use this power in a reasoned and restrained manner. It is time for a serious debate whether to cutail or remove this power.

Please reread my posts, C.A. I asked in numerous, and humorous ways for people to have perspective about Bush's actions. Claims of the sky falling, a monarchy, a coup or the end of Western democratic principles are hyperbole. Your claim that Bush is thumbing his nose at the jury is also hyperbole because any pardon or commutation does exactly what you are claiming, it changes the results of a jury's verdict. I hope you are consistent and yelled to high heaven when Clinton pardoned Marc Rich or when Carter pardoned CONVICTED draft dodgers (what about those juries?).

Your prism in seeing everything as a sign that crimes have occurred in The West Wing is a voluntary choice and you have every right to peer through it. I also have a brain and can see exageration and bias and guess what, that is exactly what Rush Olbermann and types like him, market.

SH: Frankly I don't think any President should have the right to pardon anyone unless new "facts" come out that show the person who was imprisioned was in fact innocent of the crime for which they were found guilty. I did not like Clinton's pardons, Carters pardons and I don't like this commutation of jail time by Bush for Libby (that will end up being a full pardon). And I am not criticizing Bush in the belief that somewhow he is going to cause the sky to fall. I would be criticizing a Democrat if they were in office and pardoning Libby. I have no bias against any because they happen to be Dem or Republican. But I do have a bias. I have a bias against career politicians who are corrupt and who have no idea what it takes to properly represent the wishes of the American people. You can't tell me that Bush spent endless nights studying this case or the laws behind the case in order to determine whether to pardon Libby or not. He may have been advised but only on what he could get away with regarding Presidential pardons, not whether it was right or wrong or if the sentence was too excessive (which it was not by past precedent of the law). And when that occurs and 80+% of the American people feel otherwise (with as much knowledge of the details I'm sure as Bush himself) then yes, I will criticize the President, no matter his political affilitation. Your problem SH, is that if this had been a Dem as Carter or Clinton and under the same cicumstances they pardoned someone as Libby with several months left in office, you would be screaming bloody murder. And if you deny it you're lying. At least I am willing to criticize corruption and lack of proper representation no matter which side of the isle they are seated. You seem to forget this is our governement, our laws (by and for the people), and it was our people who sat on that jury and convicted Libby. I have no room for a King in my minds eye of what America is supposed to represent, Dem or Republican King. And yes, based on Bush's general attitude with the American people on many other issues throughout his tenure, including the Iraq mess, he has been telling the people since he was first elected that he is going to do what he wants to do - so stick it up your ass. He is a spoiled child that never had to work hard for much and has to have his way or he becomes flippant, angry and rebellious. I would bet my life that any 10 or more professional psychological profiles completed by honest Dem and Republican leaning Psychologists would tell you that this is Bush's personaility and character flaws.

OK, interesting, you believe that a case of impeachment is the ONLY time the executive can pardon someone, exactly opposite to the constitution which says in Article 2 section 2 paragraph 1 that "and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment." Well I did re-read your posts and let me tell you what you are missing. Libby was convicted of obstruction of justice and you agree obviously. Bush left him with a fine that in comparison to a median income would be $2,000 maybe, and 5 min a month visit with a probation officer. All that (that's written sarcasm), for Intentionally, and willfully lying to the American people, and Obstructing Justice in a case that many consider Treason. The refusal to tell the TRUTH about the intentional outing of an American CIA officer. Yes he has the power by law, laws that are of the people, by the people, and for the people. Second point, yes you did offer "numerous, and humorous ways for people to have perspective about Bush's actions." Numerous was your necessity, and excuse me humorous ways? Maybe this isn't explained best in a "humorous" fashion. Please understand why your attempts to enlighten us with your humor may not inspire us. Fair question. I admit I was 19 years old when Clinton pardoned those guys. I was was entering engineering school and politics were not on my mind at the time. In retrospect I regret that part because it would have helped me see this president for who he was and still is years ago. Yeah, it sucks that advertisers reach more people when 60% of American's believe the president shouldn't have pardoned, sorry commuted Libby's sentence, and 1 man in network news has the balls to call for resignation for an entire presidency of failure. Nope, the failure of the Prosecution to provide any evidence of intention in the action of Richard Armitage is the fault of Fitzgerald himself.
Libby didn't testify to the order of events that Fitzgerald wanted him too, theres no evidence that Libby actually with held any such information. Theres no evidence that Armitage acted with Criminal Intent.
Therefore there is no evidence that Libby's testimony whether accurate or not can have impeded the investigation of the motives of a man who had already been granted immunity by Fitzgerald before any indication of his guilt or innocence had even been considered.
Fitzgerald screwed up the investigation at the very begining and needed to fry someone on any charge he could cook up in order to divert attention away from his own incompetence.

The Irregularities in Jury selection and the court's prejudicial action in disallowing exculpitory evidence which would have impeached the credibility of the prosecutions witnesses should result in the conviction being overturned on appeal.

What the Prosecution wants is not automatically the truth whether they believe it is or not.
Fitzgerald obtained a conviction on extremely weak evidence in the form of testimony and inconclusive and contradictory hand written notes.
No physical evidence, no recorded conversations, no witneseses that could confirm the accuracy of the testimony of the Prosecution's Witnesses.

With the political situation as it is we can figure that in any poll no Democrat would approve of any Republican in office regardless of the realities of the situation, so a 30% approval rating means that at least 60% of the people who's expressed opinions really mean anything support the President.
