Where are the Subpoenas for this administration? Waxman, has dubious work in the future. This Libby thing is an ugly fight, but it's a righteous fight. If I were Waxman, I'd subpoena the entire executive branch, as well as the Cheney Branch.

There are three facts that seem to be forgotten:
1) Libby was not convicted for outing Plame, he was convicted of obstruction in the investigation into who did.
2) Bush has granted the fewest numbers of pardons of any President in modern times.
3) Libby was NOT pardoned but had his actual prison term commuted.

With those three facts in mind it is easier to digest the reality of what Bush did. He had nothing to lose by doing this as his presidency is all but over. It was a test of wills and he decided to go the cheap way and play to his constituents- not surprising with this guy.
This is the Paris Hilton of Bush's abuse of power, not surprising and not nearly the worst. I do have a question for the neo-cons out there: How do you reconcile your satisfaction with this outcome and your outrage over the Clinton pardons at the end of his last term?

i am kinda wondering what exactly is the congress doing? sen reid is so easily distracted in the senate that he loose all legislative time to the 4th of july on that wild goose chase bush sent him on over the imigration bill. by thursday todays abuse of the constitution will be old news. tomorrow a day before a holiday, news is ignored by most. now we have less then 2 weeks before that 'well deserved' aug. vacation the congress takes. so all is forgaotten and libby, bush and cheney will laugh their *ssess off having gotten awy once again.
the war funding comes up next and bushes destruction of the constitution is ignored. that document had been good enough for the last 220 odd years. that is up until 2001 when this administration took over.
the abusses of this admin. combined with the dept. of justice in shambles and the heavily conservitive justice appointments,(not just the supreme court) recovering from this admin. is going to take decades. thats decades we as citizens will do without our legal cival rights because congress and WE THE PEOPLE have allowed bush to get away with it.

OMG--FIRST OF ALL: Mr. Libby did not get convicted of outing a CIA operative. And...Valerie Plame's classification has not been certified as an Operative.Olberman is playing loose with his conversation and definitions when he repeats that Mr. Libby outed Plame...He did not and wasn't found guilty of it.

I was a lot more outraged about Bill Clinton pardoning Mr. Rich, who was convicted and fled the Nation before sentencing. And then he pardoned a group of New York Jewish people(to make sure Hillary got the Jewish New York vote when she was running for Senator).

Don't forget the time Bill and Hill cleaned out the treasures of the White House to furnish their new digs-that was a real slap in the face.

Then there was Sandy Berger stealing original documents from the archive library and stuffing them in his socks and underwear...hmmm. That sounds pretty fishy to me. He obviously didn't want us to read the original account of what was going on in Bin Laden land when he and Berger failed to issue the order to "get him" when we had him in our sights.

There is a lot of political crapola going around always...it never ends. We have a whole bunch of slimy criminals-in-training sitting in the government branches enriching their pockets and screwing up our Nation.

My answer: The two situations are not even close to one another. Mr. Clinton pardoned dangerous people who were convicted of financial scams, and others convicted of crimes against our Nation. Mr. Libby's greatest crime was being unable to remember all the minute details of conversations that occurred years earlier. No comparison. Wilson and his wife were lying so much about their activities, you needed a scorecard to keep track of them. Mr. Libby's crimes do not rank up there with Mr. Rich's or the gaggle of jews, or any of the other pardoned ones.

I think maybe that you have missed some reports. The CIA issued a statement during Libby's sentencing that Ms. Plame was, in fact, a covert operative at the time she was outed.

The facts are that Mr. Libby went through all the judicial system's layers for relief. All of those layers confirmed his conviction and sentencing.

I am fully confident that after all is said and done, that when you connect the dots from the start of the Bush Administration until it ends, we will all find that the war in Iraq along with all the illegal activities Bush and Cheney have been involved in, will lead to Bush's and Cheney's pockets by way of all the kick backs I suspect they have been getting from Haliburton. The "commutation"/pardon of Libby is an abomination and the final affirmation to all Americans that “justice” does not, and has not, existed in America since the Bush administration was appointed by the Supreme Court. There’s a kid in prison down south for having a teenage consensual sexual encounter with a fellow teenager who’s going to spend 10 years behind bars, even though he never would have been convicted under the revised state statute. Libby gets a presidential commutation/pardon from a two and a half year sentence for crimes that could, and may have, harmed this country. This should disgust and frighten us all, as it is yet another slap in the face to us written-off Americans who would have found ourselves in Gitmo for lesser crimes, and with no recourse to justice.

Remember a few posts back where we were talking about the unbelievable numbers of people who don't try to reason through things? You were right.

I want to tell you that I've given up trying to reason with them.

Evidently, a la BillO, if you repeat lies often enough and loudly enough they become truth.

If you are trapped in defending the indefensible, then change targets in mid-discussion.

If you don't believe what you read, then call the author of the piece a liar and accuse him/her of being bought.

In other words, once you formed an opinion, never let truth or new information sway you.

I once really supported this administration. I supported the invasion of Iraq because I bought the stories of WMD. It simply never occurred to me that my own government would lie to me.

I knew that individual politicians might lie about personal matters - how they got money or some such. But to send our troops into battle for a lie. To convince our intelligence senior management to cook reports and convince our allies. That was inconceivable to me.

Then the truth started leaking out. Then people involved in those discussions (piece of cake - ring a bell?) started revealing this dastardy.

Now - we are left with this horrifying mess. Yet there are people who have let themselves stay in the mindset I had in 2001.

Of all the perfidy to which this administration can lay claim, the fact that it has not come clean with its own supporters is probably the worst. Until Mr. Bush himself admits to what we already know, his supporters will never, regardless of the evidence provided, admit to his shame. They will continue to play liberal-vs-conservative or democratic-vs-republican games.

All I want is my government back and our people in Iraq brought home. I want the United States of America to, once again, be regarded by the rest of the world as the closest form of utopian government design on the planet. I say design because it is implemented by humans capable of error and evil. But the design is intended to limit error and evil. Our national will has always been proud. I look forward to that day again.

So Jamie - how do we face tomorrow knowing that there are those Americans who are willing to let our fellow citizens die rather than admit that these deaths were caused by lies and that the liars are not being held accountable?

When he came back from Niger Joe gave his report to the Senate intellegence panal. His opinion was there was nothing to the story and the "European source" was wrong. The Senators that heard him thought otherwise, they took what he had said and concluded that there was a possibility that Niger was being contacted to sell additional yellowcake to Iraq.
So...Joe went public with his theory that Bush was lying about Niger being contacted to supply yellowcake without approval from the OVP or the CIA.
His Op-Ed piece was so full of lies and falsehoods that he had to admit he made mistakes.
It boils down to whether you believe Joe Wilson or the European source. That source was British intellegence.
