Everything from THE SIMPSONS to THIS IS SPINAL TAP to MIGHTY WIND brings me and many others so much joy. But, as Keith pointed out tonight, his most important role today is New Orleans resident. His comments were absolutely SPOT ON! I'm at a loss on how to comment on the inequity of monies for MS as opposed to LA. It defies logic, it defies humanity, and it defies words. I guess all I can really "say" is to imagine how beautiful New Orleans and the Gulf Coast could've been had EVEN A PORTION of the money we're spending in Iraq now had been spent to help in the recovery efforts and the efforts to MAKE SURE THE MONEY RAISED GOT TO WHERE IT WAS NEEDED!

Don't forget that tomorrow (Thursday) is the one-year anniversary of the very first "Special Comment"!! Something is really wrong here, when Bushies calls for $50 billion dollars moe for the war in Irag, where we can send some of it for relief efforts. Has he no clue of what is going on? With facts staring you in face, you continue to steadfastly maintain that neither George W. Bush or Dick Cheney has lied. As I have stated before, you are an intelligent person; for anyone with such intelligence to write here that neither has lied and neither has done anything to merit impeachment is a lie. You have made these statements repeatedly and recently, just this week in fact. These statements come after I have FIVE times posted the stipulations written in the Iraq War Resolution, which George W. Bush violated. Carol again posted it yesterday.

You refuse to accept the verbiage in the Resolution, which was passed into law by Congress, was violated by George W. Bush. You continue to adamantly state that George W. Bush did not facilitate a war against Iraq in violation of the Resolution, why? Refusing to admit something versus stating "no opinion" is one thing; to state what you have, and repeatedly, constitutes a lie. I expect such erroneous propaganda from Scott-NV or Larry-SC; for Scott wrote yesterday I was "FOS" regarding the two critical stipulations, even after it was posted here again yesterday by Carol. Carol copied and pasted verbatim from the Resolution. I expected more from you.

You have continued on this path of lies and deception; deal with the consequences. I will not continue debating anyone who refuses to admit what is in black and white, the verbiage in the Resolution itself.
Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

NANA, BILL, TEXASHOG and BUDDINSKI - I've been waiting for all of you.

Bush didn't make the wind blow, the seas surge or the levees break. This latest request for 50 billion should be responded to with a demand that Bush leave office and an immediate re-deployment of our troops.

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

As a conservative I'd like to say a little about this whole mess. I am socially liberal, meaning I am strenuosly for gay rights and while I'm pro life I don't want all abortions illegal (see incest, rapea and danger to the mother) - i'm a libertarian.

I personally would be more willing to vote non republican if our choices weren't socialism or capitalism or active national defense or passive national defense which is basically what it's come down to.

I think a lot of conservatives are in the same boat -and I believe the hard core anti gay component of the republican party is much much smaller than most of you think.

we want equal rights for everyone, but there's no way social issues are going to prompt me or any other conservative to vote against what we believe in as far as national defense and economic practices.

there. i said it. : )

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

'Some good news:

Marines’ Trials in Iraq Killings Are Withering

scott henderson nv (Sent Thursday, August 30, 2007 1:18 PM)'

I see it as both good and bad. The USMC screwed up royally on this one. While I don't condone what they and others have been accused of doing, in reality they need to be in intense therapy.

If they are found guilty or not guilty, that will be the way that it is, but thousands of our troops are coming home with minds that don't function the same way they did before they went to that hell hole. Would people be so understanding or demanding if some poor marine or soldier loses it and goes into homes here and kills people? Nope-they'll get their butts thrown into jail.

This war is creating monsters that aren't being helped. Too sad!
Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

Rocky Mountain Guy - kudos for the Bush Speech channeling. You were spot on - right down to the dumb look and smirk on his face.

Jen, Il - The ONLY reason that the Repugnikants are handing Craig his hat and pointing out the exit and not giving him that extra special passes that they gave Delay, Cunninham, Vitter, and others is that they saw themselves being handed their hats in the last election. The continual drip, drip, drip of their own eroding values while trying to legislate the "family values" of the rest of us has consequences.

Frankly, I don't care what people do in their private lives unless those people are trying to eliminate our privacy rights.

Stay tuned to the new show: Survivor/Republican. Vote for who you think needs to be kicked off the island next.

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

K. But this country can't afford four more years of an administration in the mold of Bush/Cheney.

FDR handled WWII just fine
Kennedy handled the Cuban Missile Crises just fine.
LBJ got bogged down in Vietnam, which also sucked Nixon down as well.

I don't believe that it takes a label of "D" or "R" to make a good commander in chief. I think that the person and their leadership abilities are what makes or breaks the office.

Bush broke it -- big time -- now someone has to fix it. Daddy can't do it this time.

As near as I can tell, the democrats and republicans are more the same fiscally, than not. It's just that Republicans prefer to give the money to the rich and the Democrats prefer to give the money to the poor. To my thinking, the rich don't need any more. I'd rather see it spent on infrastructure myself.

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

Some people -- Get a life and get a clue. My comments generally get posted, but sometimes they don't. When they don't, I don't take it personally (at least, not usually), and neither should you. I just try to figure out -- in my own mind -- why something wouldn't get posted (like maybe it was tasteless or too long or repetitive) and move on. This should be fun. It doesn't need to be validation.

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

Bush on this thread and others is nothing short of more empty-headed liberal insanity -
Full Moon (Sent Thursday, August 30, 2007 2:32 PM)

Would that be Sean Insanity, or his fellow cult members; Bill O'Liar, Twit Hume and John Fibson?

FETCH you say? It was also the USMC that didn't investigate like they should have. If this were an isolated incident then it 'probably' wouldn't be that big of a deal-but it hasn't been. As you can imagine it was HUGE news here in SD, right along with protestors outside the main gate at Camp Pendleton for many weekends in a row!

Am I glad they aren't being found guilty? Of course. However, I'll go back to the bad: Thousands of our fellow Americans are going to be mentally (if not physically), scarred for the rest of their lives. Yes, I know things happen at war, but this is absolute madness.

Another bad part is that men and women, not unlike the ones in the Haditha case and others, still have to come home to the US and assilimate-and all with a VA and government that doesn't want to help. These men need to be helped and hopefully somewhat healed.

It is sad that the VA and other mental health folks with our government are ready and willing to punish and not help those that are coming home. THAT is sad Scott, very sad. Pray that they find the help they need, because people won't be so forgiving if anyone of these soldiers 'react' with PTSD and do the same thing here at home.

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

Full Moon: Another good New Orleans song: "Battle of New Orleans" (Johnny Horton) -- "In 1814 we took a little trip, along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip; we took a little bacon and we took a little beans, and we fought the mighty British in the town of New Orleans ... well, we fired our guns and they began a runnin'; there wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago ... they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles and they ran through the bushes where the rabbits couldn't go ..."
Come to think of it, the part about "a little bacon" and "a little beans" kind of reminds me of the FEMA response to Katrina. The part about the guns reminds me of the neighboring communities that tried to stop the New Orleans residents from crossing the bridges, stranding them without food or water. And I'll bet there's a lot of "briars and brambles" in New Orleans today. (That's why Colonel Jackson's picture is on money and George W's is not.)

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

K. Poor Keith, he's so "misunderstood" - NOT!! Keith lacks all ability to see what is in black and white, the facts!! He places "Party above Country" and it's a disgrace. He can go to Fox NOISE and here what he wants to hear, LIES!!

Like Keith and rest who state (lie) that neither George W. Bush nor Dick Cheney have done anything that merits impeachment, indeed this is tantamount to a “lie”!!

Prior to George W. Bush violating “Joint Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq”, then UN Secretary General stated “the use of force without Council endorsement would not be in conformity with the Charter".

Arrogantly ignoring and impugning the integrity of the UN, in conjunction with violating the Resolution, George W. Bush illegally attacked Iraq on March 23, 2003.

Since this act of belligerence, he has “violated international law; advocated, supported or turned a blind eye to the illegal conduct of US forces and has violated of the Geneva Conventions.”

Facts of record include:

"Systematic and illegal abuse of detainees," including torture and degrading treatment, by US interrogators and guards at Abu Ghraib prison; the hiding of prisoners from International Committee of the Red Cross inspectors; cutting off water, food and electricity, forcing residents to flee and exposing those who remained to heavy air and ground bombardment and ‘free fire zone’ risks; seizure of medical facilities and interference with provision of medical assistance; the use of weapons banned by international conventions or widely considered unacceptable such as ‘napalm-type’ incendiary bomb known as MK-77 that is considered inhumane by many human rights organizations as it burns victims to death, use of white phosphorus against ground targets in densely populated areas, which causes grave injuries; cluster bombs and depleted uranium, a radioactive substance which may have long-term harmful effects on the environment and on human health. The use of these weapons is strictly prohibited under international law, and they do not distinguish between combatants and non-combatants.”

US-led occupation forces have committed numerous atrocities in Iraq since the invasion of 2003. Haditha, Hamandiya, Sadr City, Samarra and Ishaqi have become synonymous with murder, rape and the multiple killing of civilians

The occupation has proven extremely violent, with thousands of US casualties and as many as 600,000 or more Iraqis dead and wounded. It has been stained by torture, massive use of force against civilian neighborhoods and other cruel and despotic methods that recall some of the worst moments of Western colonialism in the region.”

No crimes? Nothing that warrants impeachment? Nothing that warrants a prison cell at The Hague?

The "Keith's" will never get it!!

http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/issues/iraq/attack/lawindex.htm
Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

Carol (Thursday, Aug. 30, 5:54 PM) I don't throw stones. If there is a Republican ran state they always get taken care of first and foremost especially the Bushy Boys brother!
My thanks to all the people from different areas of the country that came down here during 2004 and gave us back our electricity and helped clean up.. My thanks also to the American Red Cross volunteers who were here to help too.. mostly locals.. who even though they were out and out.. helped! By the way.. it's the people here that worked together after those hurricanes neighbors and friends, once one was taken care of we went to the next house..there is still things left that the government didn't take care of and there are still peoples homes with tarps on their roofs after 3 years! Fortunately alot of homes in our area have been built since Andrew blew through this state in 1992 and they upped the standards of building them. Oh, and remember Papa Bush was in Office when Andrew hit.. and according to many of those people who didn't rebuild in the Homestead area weren't very well taken care of and it was slow! Sure it's better now but don't give all the credit to the state or Bushy boy.. it was the PEOPLE here that were the core of our recovery! I know I was one of them!

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

I think the important thing to remember about this administration is its astonishing record of success in accomplishing its goals.

It was able to shred the SALT agreements and to start pouring untold billions of dollars into Star Wars - the most dangerous and expensive boondoggle in human history.

It was able to keep people like Richard Clarke and John O’Neill at bay long enough that another Al Qaeda attack took place, giving the Bush Administration untold political powers.

It was able to confuse aggressor campaigns to destabilize regimes in a phony Axis of Evil with what should have been a real campaign against real enemies of the US.

It was able to plan all through the summer of 2001 for US companies to move into Iraq after the removal of Saddam Hussein, and never be forced to reveal that such discussions had taken place before 9/11.

It was able to steal two Presidential elections by using traitors who place GOP party loyalty above honor or anything else.

So they didn't do such a hot job in new Orleans. From the point of view of the Bush Administration, the Neoconservatives, and their corporate sponsors, the basic response is: Who cares?

Countdown Wednesday: Storm of Controversy

Ms. Bignardi* - Come on, it was a good post and you know it.
