Wow...I did "the google" on fantasy football; it sounds stinkin' complicated! My ex-brother-in-law used to (and I imagine still does) spend A LOT of time and money on this. Whatever happened to just watching the game, placing your bets, etc., or is that just too old fashioned?

Rex Grossman should've been ridden out of Chicago on a rail; during a pre-season game with the Colts, a couple of pre-rookies looking for jobs with the Colts managed to strip the ball away from him. LOSER! And, apologies to any Colts fans who read this, they will not repeat; SORRY!

The similarities are uncanny. Grown men shuffling around quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers, just like adolescents dealing in the realm of knights, dragons, wizards and elves.

Well, this is al just one man's fantasy, of course. In my own fantasy world, Brett Favre still ranks a lot higher than 120, and certainly higher than Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or Mark Bulger (???). Where did Mark Bulger come from, anyway? I guess it depends on what you value, and on my scale, Favre is still -- and may always be -- the best there ever was. If only for the twinkle in his eye. Not to mention his perpetually unshaven look and his ironman constitution. Nothing, but nothing, is better than that.

Fantasy footbal is possibly the best thing ever to happen to the NFL. It's pretty simple once you participate in one and it makes every game that comes on tv watchable. 18 million people play fantasy football in the United States alone. I used to think it was stupid before I tried it one time and 10 years later, I play in about 8 a year.

I love football but don't know anything about fantasy football however, I know Peyton Manning is going to break every single QB stat on the planet and he's ranked below Carson Palmer? KO! I would start Peyton in every single game if that is allowed in fantasy ball. Who is Marc Bulger? Ha! Rams? Carson Palmer has a bad knee and his team may end up in jail on any given Sunday and be unavailable to play. He can in no way be better than Peyton. Peyton has the team around him to make the plays that get into the record books. Edge did NOTHING this past season, he fumbled the ball more than he ran the ball. Go with Addai anytime you can over Edge. Throw that ball to Marvin and it's in his hands, rock solid. One to look out for...Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Giants. A CHS, BC grad, have known the kid since he and my oldest began school together in 1987 and he will make his mark this year. Hi everybody glad you all made it back today...

Jamie..no rain here, but in the upper desert plenty of it. It seems a bit cooler today, but even with AC the heat soaks right through the walls. If it gets too bad I just go out back and tip toe through the sprinklers. Glad it cooled off for you a bit. This weather is the worst yet. Lots of people without power since Saturday.

For you Fantasy Football neophytes allow me to explain... You select players in rounds similar to the real NFL draft. Generally, you have 10 to 12 franchises or teams. You take turns choosing players according to the type of lineup structure your league has adopted... i.e. 1 QB, 2 RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1K & 1DT. When your players score on Sunday, you receive points. Most of the leagues today are tracked online and are totally automated. I still play with guys from 20 years ago and we have a unique system unlike the online leagues, so some of our scoring is still manually tabulated. Most fans have a favorite team, this twist on watching and following the game expands your interest and gives you a reason to follow and thus be knowledgeable about other teams you previously could care less about. It's really a fun way to watch and follow the game. You can still keep your favorite team and manage and follow players across the league. Check it out... you'll be hooked too!

Krista, I work downtown and I get off work at 4:00, I am thinking about going to the circle but...I don't know about getting caught up in the crowd. I would really LOVE to be in the dome to hear Mellencamp. I WILL be watching (here at home or in person) all the pregame stuff and hoping the game is over early enough for me to get some decent sleep for work on Friday.

I think your students will love getting out early, go for it! Life is short, might as well enjoy it while we can.

I read that KO would be here sonmewhere in the post here on the blog. Silly me, I believed it! Maybe it is true, maybe it isn't. The Star said today that the NFL season kickoff was always in the city of the franchise that won the super bowl and I made an assumption....oh oh. The post said KO would be here Wednesday and Thursday, why oh why am I so naive? I have worked only one day in the past two weeks, I have enjoyed every minute of every day so I know how much fun can be had when work is not in the plan. KO is on!!!! Gotta run!

Bill, the AFC is really loaded, I agree.

My concern with the Pats is that even though it's pretty likely they'll win their division again, I was hoping they'd get a bye week and home field advantage during playoffs. But with the state of their defense for the first month of the season, I'm worried.

Peyton Manning is going to have another awesome year. He's so good.

Good luck with the Giants this year. It's wide open in the NFC from what I heard over the weekend.
