No more money to fund the conflict. If Bush were to leave our troops in Iraq with no funds to continue, yes, it would mean no more money for equipment or any other military needs earmarked for the troops in Iraq. He would have to bring the troops home. On the other hand, knowing Bush, he might tell the troops to stay and defend themselves with rocks. Congress can say we will only give you this much, and provide only that dollar amount that would be required to continue to supply the troops currently in Iraq with whatever they need until all those currently serving in Iraq have left the country, and the monies needed to transport the troops home safely and out of harms way.

The Big Debate/Court Date/Head, etc

Sue, thanks. Naturally, our troops have not killed 1 million Iraqis. Our troops have defended themselves and in the process people have been killed. Thats' it. The fact is that the Iraqi's, Sunni, Shiite and Kurds do not like one another and have not for a long time. They have always been at the brink of cutting loose and to begin killing one another. Yes, there is aggitation and particpation by terrorist groups that is not helping the siutation. But what I believe Sue to have meant is that 1 million Iraqis may not have lost their lives if we had not invaded in the first place. I'm sure Saddam would have continued taking out several thousand Iraqis who opposed his dictatorship, but not in the numbers and short period of time that the US invasion has allowed by opening up the flood gates to what the Iraqis had in mind for each other all along. They lost the person who controled them, regardless of what you felt about Saddam. Now it is a free-for-all where many are losing their lives in the chaos that the US has helped to create by eliminating the person who controled their behavior. Simple as that. Now, what are we going to do about that with 165,000 soldiers in a country populated by millions? But I would change some proceses. The American people's governing tool is the vote. I would eliminate the electoral college and elect a President by popular vote. I would install term limits for Congress. I would do whatever it takes via the legal system to eliminate the involvement and powers of those special interest groups in Washington. I would implement real campaign finance reform allowing for the poor man/woman to seek office. I would adopt the British parlimentary practice of allowing congressional delegates (in turns because of their numbers) to hold weekly or monthly question and answer periods with the President as you have seen with Tony Blair and the House of Lords on PBS. I would seek a law requiring that the President's cabinet be made up of an equal number of republicans and democrats (while the two party system is maintained). I would seek a special government body made up of Congressional members and randomly chosen average Americans whose only purpose was to evaluate, study and recommend improved domestic policy to the President and Congress. I would limit (by law) the amount of recess time Congress was allowed. Those are just a few suggestions for a start.

The Big Debate/Court Date/Head, etc

UPDATE BEFORE THE NEXT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION?

The Big Debate/Court Date/Head, etc

Ghost of NJ (Sent Wednesday, September 26, 2007 2:16 PM)

It is President Bombsalot that has murdered innocent Iraqis. The military, who reports to the Commander-In-Chief of the United States of America, has betrayed our men and women in a manner that is utterly incomprehensible to me.

Yes, Ghost, George W. Again, not the people's fault as much as allowing our representatives to muddy up the rights and powers of the US citizens. Both parties will protect their own and both parties would do what they could to squash any demand from the American people to fire (impeach) their party's leader (the President). Perhaps we could design a robot that is programed with expert constitutional knowledge and with absolute power so when an elected offical abuses the Constitution that robot grabs them around the neck with that cane and jerks them off the political scene. Not making light of your suggestion Kathy, but unfortunately it is money that rules this country and those in power are the money brokers. They would never go along seriously with soild term limits, eliminating special interest that line theri pockets, eliminating the electoral college if their party currently holds the strength in those states with the largest numbers of eletoral votes, place their Presdient before a tough and rowdy question and answer session each week or month or pass real campaign finance reform so poor John Doe from Chicago could kick their ass in an election for President. I did not vote to re-elect him after his “republican” first term, I skipped that chad altogether when I voted. I also voted against the recall. The recall was funded by a millionaire republican who had his eyes on Davis' job. After Arnold announced he was running, the millionaire and wannabe governor held a press conference stating he would not run and cried throughout the speech. It was pathetic; however, “what goes around comes around.”

Gray Davis is the perfect example of voter ignorance, there should have been no recall, and it was a mockery of the voting system. Had the voters been paying attention during his four-year first term, Davis would have lost his bid for a second term. Shame on those who voted to re-elect him!!

George W. The voting booth is fine but often not timely enough. If one has to wait 3 1/2 years to vote out a Senator who abused the constituion during the first year of his/her term how much more damage can that Senator do to the country and those they represent before they can be voted out. There are actions Congress can take with Representatives and Senators but as we see there is most often a great deal of game playing and defending that goes on for months before any action if any is taken. I think Kathy wants something that would be more swift and decisive. You abuse the Constiution on Thursday you take unpaid leave the rest of Thursday and all of Friday and have your desk cleaned out by 5:00 PM Friday. I'm sure it happens that way in your place of business if an employee violates a major rule. Why does it also not apply to our employees, the Representatives, Senators and Presidents.

In the same light I did like John Edward's comment about national health care in the debate last night. Telling the Representatives and Senators if they do not implement a plan to provide health care to Americans who cannot afford the same within 6 months, they lose their health care benefits. Now that's called acccountability. Something that our government officals seriously lack. Love to see how that would play with the Christian/Right.

The Big Debate/Court Date/Head, etc

Full Moon 3:55 PM..my post of Wednesday 6:44 PM in response to yours same day. Anyway, who says O'Reilly can't use the word Blacks. I'm not aware he was prevented from using it. I did not see his show with Sharpton. Do you read all blogs. Many people use the word. Just like people use the word Latinos or Mexican/American, which is a description I don't like.

The Big Debate/Court Date/Head, etc

Laura: Full Moon is just trying to get under your skin as he/she has no comment of substance to disagree with you on. The only persons who can determine whether they feel ok with being called Black versus African Americans or African Americans versus Blacks are the African Americans or Blacks. Let's cut to the chase. We all know that O'Reilly's obvious predjudice came from his commments that he was surprised that Blacks / African Americans could operate and maintain a restuarant to those standards of those of White owners. I didn't call those comments ignorant because that would be giving O'Reilly a pass. If one truly does not know better then the predujudice is questionable. But O'Reilly does know better. His comments were racist no matter how he tries to spin it, period. He should be fired.

The Big Debate/Court Date/Head, etc

C A..4:33..thanks C A .. If the "liberals" don't agree with the supporters of the current administration, they are just %&**#$ worthless blankety blanks..

Again for the record, I am first and foremost an American. It is my right to believe how I want to believe and to vote my conscience. If the right-wingers would like join this blog in a cogent discussion of issues, please feel free to do so. It is almost guaranteed that any 'liberal' views would be immediatly censored on a conservative blog site.

Seriously, I cannot fathom how some neocons say that liberals are suppressing freedom of speech and expression.. I think sometimes the liberal viewpoint goes overboard to make sure no one's right to speak is denied. That is why the rational, thinking blogger has to put up with unintelligent vitriol and 'out of control anger-management problem' posts from the blinders-wearing neocon crowd.

I implore the Full Moons, Wayne's, scott's, Ghost's and Larry's to think about it.
