Just a few last thoughts on the Armenian hijacking of the US congress:
We maintained US airbases in Turkey during the cold war because of its proximity to the USSR. I have been to Turkey in the mid 1980's and never was I treated as well overseas (including the UK, W. Germany) as an American travelling abroad.

I would like to know what has Armenia ever done to assist the US in strategic policies? What do they offer to do in exchange for alienating a steadfast ally to the point of removing their ambassador from the US?
In my opinion we owe the Turkish government and people a debt of gratitude for tolerating our military presence. One might say we strengthened their defenses against the USSR, but at the same time
we also made them more of a potential target from the soviets.

Does anyone else besides me think Senator McConnell should at least be up for ethics investigations for helping to endanger a boy's life and the lives of his family? If Senator Craig is getting them for wanting sex with a guy in an airport men's room, 'ol Mitchie ABSOLUTELY deserves it - the hearings - not the sex in the men's room.

Al Gore isn't going to run; I'm sorry. And, of course, Senator Clinton DOES NOT want him to. The 2 of them DO NOT LIKE EACH OTHER - AT ALL! Some of the stories in Carl Bernstein's book are a hoot - maybe even a hoot and a half.

Fellow NewsHolers, it will be late afternoon Sunday before I see if this post makes the cut. I'm heading out of town (and out of state) for the next few days and won't be around a computer. Those are my two working assumptions and expectations as I continue trying to support this program. That support dies a little every time I see that Keith, Countdown, MSNBC, and G.E. have failed to rise above the nonsense.

Your Brittney coverage... Your falling into the false left/right trap... These are just two things that cause me to bolt in search of alternative news outlets.

I commend you for your honesty and reasonably sound analyses.

I agree that Anne Coulter may be among the bad (“worst”) people in the world, and that she spews hate and illogical drivel. However, I wonder why so much attention is given to her. With regard to her recent comments about perfecting Jews, you and others conclude that she is anti-semitic. OK, Wolf Blitzer, Lou Dobbs, and the like can be forgiven, because their level of analyses is not considered lofty. You, on the other hand, must be held to a higher standard (that is a compliment).

Coulter wants to change Jewish people to believe in her “perfect” religion. Her fundamentalist beliefs may be questioned, but that belief doesn’t necessarily make her anti-semitic. [I admit that many use religion for an excuse and rationalization for hate.] As an educator, we want our students to learn about the world, as we (teachers, textbook writers, administrators, etc.) now believe it to be. That doesn’t make teachers anti-student. I think you can see that many other similar examples could be provided.

Who here thinks that that people making $82.5K should get free health care when they can afford their own insurence?

The S-CHIP Bill that Bush vetoed, would have expanded the program to people up to the age of 25, and households that make $82.5K a year.
S-CHIP is for the poor, not for people with incomes to reach multi-millionaire status.

Like in New York City, where if you go see a pricey doctor to find any kind of learning disablity, and hire a pricey lawyer,(with a wink, and a nod) you can have the City of New York pay for private schools for your child, regardless of tuition. It's the new "In Thing" for the rich of New York City, and I bet that you all think that is fair as well.

It affected everyone that invests in the stock market, including 401 K

-Authorized the use of force against the Taliban, and restored democracy to 25,000,000 Afghans.

-Signs Patriot Act to provide us with the tools to combat terrorism both at home and abroad. It is noted that there has not been a terrorist act on US Soil since 9-11. He diligently prosecuted the Global War on Terror, putting Terrorist and rogue nations on alert, that if you mess with the US, you will pay the consequences

-Put in place No Child Left Behind. While this act has flaws, and needs to be corrected, the premise behind the Act is correct. No child should be stopped from access to an education. The flaw in the bill is funding, and requiring testing of disadvantaged students that have no chance of meeting standards

- signs Protect Act- Amber Alert Bill expanding nationwide a rapid-response network to help find kidnapped children.

-Signs Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003

February 2005 Economic Growth Continues - Unemployment Rate Falls to 4.7 Percent. This is just a snap shot, but the economic policies of the Bush Administration have allowed us to have a thriving economy, with low unemployment and robust growth.

-Stock Market The Dow Jan 2001 10,968, dropped to as low as 7286.27 on October 9, 2002, but as a result of solid economic policies, the Dow now stands at 14,015

This is not an all encompassing list, but just a sample of the Bush accomplishments. To be fair, the following are some of the things I do not approve of:

- Presciption Drug Plan-Establishing a tremendous bureaucracy that is not efficient and very costly.
- Immigration – I don’t believe enough is being done to combat illegal immigration.
- I believe spending is out of control, and Bush has not done enough to combat excessive pork barrel spending.
- While I agree with the removal of Saddam Hussein, I don’t like the way post SH was handled.

Obviously the teachers union has not done their job to the satisfaction of the parents and they have no faith in public education - which I can't blame them. Maybe the $400,000 is above their means. I wonder how different the world looks today if Al Gore wins the 2000 election and the shrub goes back to Texas. I’m sure many people will comment on that today, now that Mr. Gore has won a share of the Nobel peace prize. But, notwithstanding that I have been a Gore supporter since at least 1992, I sincerely hope he doesn’t run for president next year. Let me tell you why.

There can no longer be any doubt that Mr. Gore would have been a more effective, humane, and competent president than Mr. Bush. After all, it turns out you don’t have to be very smart to muck up a war you never should have started and do nothing else substantial for seven years.

There can be no doubt that Mr. Gore is still as well-qualified as anyone else currently in the field – in either party. But, sadly, Mr. Gore’s chance may have passed, although not for the reasons you might think. Like Jimmy Carter, Mr. Gore has found his own “separate peace,” transcending the partisan political conspiring, bickering, and rancor that taints the presidency as it exists today. Like Mr. Carter, he addresses issues from the perspective of the moral, rather than the merely political. In short, Al Gore stands for something.

This is, of course, what presidents (like the ones on Mt. Rushmore) used to be. But not any more. Effective presidents now must be pragmatic, and able to compromise. They must make hard choices among many alternatives, some of them unsavory. Bill Clinton knew how to do that, and maybe even Ronald Reagan. Hillary Clinton appears to know. Bill Richardson, John Edwards, Chris Dodd might. But, Al Gore should not be asked to. He should be allowed to continue standing for something.

Like Mr. Carter, Mr. Gore certainly still has a role to play. Secretary of something, ambassador to something (United Nations comes to mind), anything where he can draw from his “moral” frame of reference to make a significant contribution. But not the presidency. Leave that to someone less than Mr. Gore.

It's time for the American people to take the gloves off and to demand team work from both sides of the isle to resolve such issues as health care (especially and immediately for the children snd the elderly in this country). We do not elect our representatives to tell us many issues need fixed and then to bicker about each other's proposals. We do not need either side or their Presidential candidates telling us in stump speeches that we need to fix health care or social security. WE KNOW THIS ALREADY. What we need are representatives to get their a-- in a room somewhere, to brainstorm, and not to come out until they can agree on a solution. Perhaps beyond the voting booth we need some form of Performance Review Board made up of Americans from all walks of life to evaulaute each representative's performance. If they act like team players for the interests and good of the American people they stay. If they bitch all the time and do not try and resolve issues through listening to others proposals, making proposals themselves and compromising if necessary, they are fired. I will not volunter to be on the Board but I'll volunteer to be the one who meets with the poor performers to fire them.

Robots are exhibited on a regular basis and are the major workforce in many modern factories.
Cloned animals are a reality. Legal and moral issues prevent the cloning of humans, with good reason.

The technology for George Jetson's flying car and Robot maid are here. But like they say "No Bucks no Buck Rodgers".

You can see these wonders of the 21st century easily enough, just don't expect Uncle Sugar to issue you one as an entitlement.

Personally I can do without flying cars loaded with jetfuel and drunken teenagers crashing through the roof of my house on Saturday night.

If you disagree with the content of the show, don't listen to it. Air America has many other great shows that you might enjoy (i.e Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow. Kevin, you must be un-American and Anti-Constitution for not wanting freedom of speech. The networks should stop giving her a platform, though. As a Christian, I won't be listening to the Atheist program because I have different beliefs but living in this country they still have a right to speech. I wonder how different the world looks today if Al Gore wins the 2000 election. There can no longer be any doubt that Mr. Gore would have been a more effective, humane, and competent president than Mr. Bush. (After all, it turns out you don’t have to be very smart to muck up a war you never should have started and do nothing else substantial for seven years.) Nevertheless, I hope Mr. Gore doesn’t run for president next year. Let me tell you why.

There can be no doubt that Mr. Gore is still more qualified than anyone else currently in the field – in either party. But, like Jimmy Carter, Mr. Gore has found his own “separate peace,” transcending the partisan political conspiring, bickering, and rancor that taints the presidency as it exists today. Like Mr. Carter, he addresses issues from the perspective of the moral, rather than the merely political. In short, Al Gore stands for something.

This is, of course, what presidents (like the ones on Mt. Rushmore) used to be. But not any more. They must be more pragmatic than idealistic, making hard choices among many alternatives, some of them unsavory. Bill Clinton knew how to do that, and maybe even Ronald Reagan. Hillary Clinton appears to know. Bill Richardson, John Edwards, Chris Dodd might. But, Al Gore should not be asked to. He should be allowed to continue standing for something.

Like Mr. Carter, Mr. Gore certainly still has a critical role to play. Anything where he can draw from his “moral” frame of reference to make a significant contribution. But not the presidency. Leave that to someone less than Mr. Gore.

Is no one concerned that Turkey has withdrawn their ambassador from the US? I realize their not considered "Miss Congeniality" by the Greeks, Russians, and deservedly the Armenians, to name a few. But the have provided us a strategic airspace and listening post for the cold war and whatever this war will be called in the future ("the frying pan war?") and all US military actions in between.
Germany is actually a founding member of the EU and a member of the UN so I don't understand the argument that Turkey needs to confess for crimes comitted by the Ottomans in 1915. Is our Congress a confessional for Muslims?
Don't we have more pressing issues to address before Congress takes another break?
Let Armenia make proclamations from its own government. The Ottoman Empire has not existed since 1923 and apparently the Germans have been forgiven.

There is a new one hour program, on the weekends that discusses atheism. So what. I couldn't even find a reference to it on the Air America Home page. With all the Religious programming on network and cable and satellite, one hour a week doesn't even qualify as a drop in the bucket. Last time I checked, there were about 20 Christian programming channels on my satellite dish. It isn't the 'godless' that start wars, it's religious zealots who start wars in the name of god.

Last time I checked, free speech was not restricted to only the Christian right, at least not yet.

And lastly, I haven't supported any candidate yet -- I am still undecided, I'm still reading and learning. Hopefully I will make up my mind before the primary, but it won't be because of lack of research.

Please show me where Al Gore said he invented the internet. You right wingers are so dumb you believe everything the spin machine puts out for you. While in Congress, Gore was responsible for promoting technical development which led to the internet. The individual from MCI Worldcom who is known as the "father of the internet" because he designed the networks computer language even said that the internet would not be where it is today without Gore's contribution. I know the truth isn't as exciting as it is to try and destroy someone's credibility but sometimes you just must face it. I think it was Dick Armey that started telling the press that Gore claims to have invented the internet and Repubicans ran with it. It's like if we can't find any real dirt on the guy we'll make something up. As someone who is in favor of everyone's freedom of speech, you can say whatever you want on the blog but please try and be honest and don't distort the facts. And finally Tom, stop being jealous of Al Gore. I know he was elected to the presidency in 2000, he has a great family, he won the nobel peace prize, he's making millions and millions for being a major stockholder in Google but I'm sure you have some things going for you also.

Al Gore doesn't like what he sees in politics today, I don't either. I certainly don't blame him for choosing not to run. Again, he's found a cause, he's championed it and he's at the top of the world.

No one knows for sure what the last few years would have been like under a Gore Presidency. He may have done some things that were of benefit to the American people and he most assuredly may have made a few mistakes as well. But one thing is certain. Having experienced the Vice Presidency it is highly likely there were times under Clinton that he (Gore) would have like to have been consulted more on certain subjects. And having experienced such frustration as a Vice Presdient he would have understood the importance of consultation and communications as well as the morale building tactic of seeking out the opinions and suggestions of others, whether from members of Congress from both sides of the isle or experts from the private sector on middle eastern cultures/religions as well as experts on other topics (unlike GWB who could care less about morale building and has run his Presidency from a position of my way or the highway). Therefore, and unlike Bush, by being a better communicator, one who understood the importance of consulting with others, the importance of morale building, and by seeking input from other sources with expertise, Gore would most likely have made much fewer errors in some instances and would have been quite successful in other instances.

Can you visualize a world where the most prized possession is fresh, unpolluted water is more treasured than oil? Do you think getting people to think about the consequences of that possibility is bad -- even if you think global warming is a non-issue, taking care of natural resources can't be bad (except for the corporate billionaires, maybe)? Wouldn't be a positive to look at solving problems soon so that conflicts do not erupt later, i.e peace, as in Nobel Peace Prize.

I agree with your reasoning; however, former Vice President Al Gore was one of the most powerful vice presidents in history. Former Vice President Walter Mondale was another. These two gentlemen, unlike the current vice president and devil Cheney, didn't abuse the powers given them by their respective presidents, which may be one reason some don’t realize how much power Al Gore had.

Outrageous remarks, based on painting history, religion, politics, and virtually everything else with broad strokes, are what anyone who has even vaguely paid attention to Ann Coulter at some point has come to expect.

What I find more annoying in this particular instance is that Coulter shows up on CNBC spewing this garbage and then Donny Deutsch appears on NBC's Today show to discuss it further. Heaven forbid that Deutsch miss an opportunity to turn his outrage into a plug for his CNBC show in front of a national audience. Why not address it on his own show?

Deutsch's outrage is slightly amusing. Yes, what Coulter said was disgusting, but she has appeared on his show in the past and made offensive remarks. Suddenly, because she questions his personal religious practices before launching into her latest rant, he finds her offensive and thinks enough is enough, yet he has to make an appearance on the Today show to announce this.

Nice plug, but anyone who is stupid enough to invite Coulter on and then is shocked by anything she says is probably not worth watching.

For all the crowing about how high the stock market is, remember that the dollar is weaker than it has been in about three decades. A lot of foreign money is parked in the market right now. When the tide shifts, it's going to have a major correction, maybe more than the customary 15%.

Until that changes, if it ever does, a person who wins the popular vote can still lose the election. No one can say for sure that if the recount had been pursued and continued by the US Supreme Court how Florida would have turned out. Gore lost the election because of two issues. Right or wrong, agree with it or not, many voted for Bush as a vote against Bill Clinton and Gore's associaition with Clinton and secondly, Gore lost the election himself because of his personality at the time. He was arrogant, stiff and at times boring. Regarding that partuclair election, yes, it is time to get over it and to move on just as it is time for the right to quit bringing up Clinton's sexual liasons while in office. It is time for both sides to get over it and to move on.

You would also be surprised at the relatively low percentage of folks who have a 401k and in that percentage, how many have 'money market' and / or 'company stock' as their investment foundation.

Most middle class folks WITH SAVINGS have 'savings accounts' or CDs not investment accounts with stocks. But the really scary part is that the majority of America DOES NOT SAVE AT ALL and they are in debt up to their eye balls.

Everyone can make choices. I will agree that there are Americans that choose not to participate in 401ks or have part of their 401ks in the stock market. But that is a choose.

I would also agree that there are many Americans who are living high on the hog and do not save, but "live for today". That is also a choose. This goes to the same argument that I should not have to pay to bail out those who chose to purchase a house way over their means.

All that being said, the opportunities for those to benefit from the recent stock market run are there, if you so choose to participate. Prudent financial management would be to participate, even if a little, in the stock market as part of your long term growth strategy.

The reduction in the capital gains tax has benefitted the economy by allowing more dollars to be reinvested, generating more revenues. As a result, it behooves every American to try to particpate in their company's 401k, or save a little on their own.

I will say that I have moderated my stock position, as I think that it has leveled off a bit. The credit market does worry me, as that will affect the economy, which will affect the stock market.
