Keith, I kind of got the willies when it was announced tonight that you're going to interview Andrew "Don't Taze Me, Bro!" Meier on Tuesday night. I've got a BAD FEELING about this. I think John Kerry should've been more proactive at the University of Florida event, and the cops made a disruptive situation worse by their actions when they could've just escorted him out of the room. Having said this, all indications are pointing to Mr. Meier being a big 'ol publicity hound who staged this whole thing and bragged about it, and you interviewing him would play right into his hands.

I don't know; what I do know and have confidence in are your skills as an interviewer. I KNOW you won't let him get away with anything...PLEASE?!

I read your response, and I don’t take issue with that much of what you say. We seem to be generally in line on the worship issue. It sounds like you would agree that we don’t want anyone else imposing their morality on us. I agree with you that personal responsibility is a good thing, but again, I try not to impose my own standards on others.

I definitely disagree, however, that the “modern Jacobins” are the ones interested in religious repression. I see no evidence whatsoever for that and plenty of evidence to the contrary.

The circular rationalization that the world is a safer place is an infinite argument. Would the world be a safer place with a regime change in China? Maybe. How about North Korea? Maybe. Russia? The facts are that we are now bogged down in two third world countries for more than five years with costs running 200 billion a year, gas approaching $3 a gallon again and Bush is threatening a third war when there is no resolution in sight for the two we are already fighting. The interest on the national debt alone is now 350 billion. When Bush took office the debt was a little over 5 trillion dollars and we were starting to run surpluses for the first time in decades.Things were so good the treasury had stopped selling 30 year t-bills. When he leaves office, the debt will be about 9.3 trillion. Anyone who considers him a good leader just hasn't been paying attention or has a really low set of standards.

Also, 3700+ American families would still have their loved ones in their lives (they don't view it as the "small price" that Rep. Boehner apparently does), thousands of other American families would have their loved ones in their lives without missing limbs and horrid memories, and the Iraqis would still have clean water and electricity on a daily basis - not to mention the untold thousands of Iraqi civilians who've lost their lives that we'll probably never really know about.

The world is a better place without Sadaam and his sons; these days, as much as we're hated in the world, I'm not so sure about safer.

The Hillary story was a bit misleading. Hillary is not for expanding the war in Iraq but just because she doesn't believe in an immediate pullout, people want to imply that she supports W. The Iraq war was a huge mistake but the realistic course of action is to pull out the troops in a measured manner so as not to leave Iraq in turmoil and as a base for Al-Qaeda.

Give Hillary credit for trying to be realistic about W's Mistake rather than resorting to crowd-pleasing slogans. I wish someone would ask Obama for specifics on his plan to handle Al Qaeda.

I suppose it's time for me to give my take on Governor Arnie's performance through this tragic event in CA.

I've been watching him for a while now. At least for the last several months. While in the past he has been indecisive about many matters, he has come a long way. I don't know if it's been that he's seen the light or if Maria's influence has finally rubbed of on him. Maybe a little of both. I was particulary impressed a month of so ago when he attended the yearly Republican gathering in Palm Springs. I mentioned it at the time. He tried getting his party to come more to the center, not only for the good of the party, the coming election, but in general so that people could see the party in a different light. He made sense, but the party basically told him to shove it. They felt he was trying to get them to compromise their religious beliefs, and their personal values. At least he tried.

During yesterdays news conference, I really felt he was sincere in wanting this state to get through this event. One thing El Presidente said that I agreed with..did I say that! I agreed with Bush..well yes. He said because of the leadership in this state things will get done. I know he must have meant a dig at Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco in LA after Katrina, but whatever the reason, he got it right about the leadership in this state. Arnie wasted no time getting mobilized and asking for help. He wasted no time getting to the people to reassure them help would be on the way. This is impressive. Yes, he has come a long way. Being a Republican Governor, it even surprises me that I find myself standing behind him. I never didn't like him, just was annoyed with him. I am glad he has come up the plate and is doing what is right for California. I am also surprised that I agreed with one thing El Presidente said yesterday. Keep up the good work Sr. Governor.

It is 8:00 AM..the weather is very cool, our marine layer is in place, fog in some places. A very good thing to get these fires under control. The humidity is climbing, also very good. Still alot of work getting these fires quelled, but the weather is cooperating..it's about time.

One way to know if Global Warming is a good thing or bad, would be to check the historical record to see if mankind had lived on a warmer planet. Had man been around when the Earth was as much as 5 degrees F warmer then today? If so, did mankind do well?
Was disease more? Or Less?
Did crops do better? Or worse?
Was there more rain? Or less?
Did man live longer? Or shorter?
How far back would one have to look to find out? Are there written records of the last time that the Earth was warmer then today?

Krista - Sure Meier is a publicity hound but when did that become a crime. He is certainly no worse than coultergiest and people put up with here nonsense without tazing her. Of course she would probably enjoy it. I think the real point of this story is when did being annoying become a crime and what is excessive force. Every week there is a story about someone inappropriatly being tazed. There was even a story of a man holding a baby being tazed and dropping the baby. We have become so frightened of each other in this country we allow police to do what ever they want. I know some policemen and they are nice guys but they all they like the authority a little to much.

Or will history show Bush to be right about his crackpot econmoics? But back to Iraq. Here's a checklist for you of what Bush has gotten WRONG about Iraq already:
1) Saddam Hussein has ties to Al Qaeda
2) Saddam Hussein has WMDS
3) We'll be greeted as Liberators
4) The war could last 6 days 6 weeks I doubt 6 months
5) We know the WMDS are in and around Baghdad and Tikrit and to the North, South, East, and West
(that's my favorite)
6) The insurgency is in it's last violent throes.
7) I'm from Texas "bring em on"
8) Iraq has sought to buy yellowcake uranium from Africa
9) By fighting them over there we won't have to fight them here. Question: How are the insurgents supposed to get here, swim ?
Compared with this list off the top of my head what else will history reveal; over the course of time; that Bush has gotten wrong?
Of course I haven't touched upon the culture of corruption, looting of the treasury, war profiteering, crackpot economics, appointing ideological firebrands to The Supreme Court, Terri Schiavo, Katrina, Gitmo etc.
So just how will History prove this Jethro Bodine of Presidents right about anything?

I am afraid for the long term affect these fires will have on people. At risk are always the very young, and the very old. But us in the middle, also have a great risk. Those particles in the air, chemicals released and other yucky things we breathe, will all take it's toll on folks health. Those people with compromised respiratory problems..asthma for instance, are at risk now. It's one thing to watch out for. This may prove to be almost as dangerous as the folks exposed the aftermath of 9/11.

Please don't be *that* way to the "Don't Taze me Bro!" guy.

The video shows ~ 6 cops carrying a guy out of a room and then *stop* and taze him. Nobody deserves that.

Maybe it saved one of the cops a bruise, but nobody in the world thinks that protester guy was about to get away. There were 40 feet away from being out of the hall.

But I think the worst is the media storm and ridicule. Again nobody deserves that, at least not to this level.

It seems like the same people that complain that this generation doesn’t step up treat this guy like he deserved what he got. So what if he isn't the perfect martyr. HE was out there and doing something. **Any reasonable person should now pause before doing anything other than most polite protesting.** Even Countdown makes him the butt of jokes and can’t give him some credit for the good he was trying to do. I don’t care that he might be a somewhat crazy jerk. I don’t know if I agree with what he was saying, but I don’t care. He could be mean to puppies and that wouldn’t have anything to do with this.

I don’t want us in Iran. I want out of Iraq. I want a country where hundreds of thousands of college students like "Don't Taze me Bro!" show up and change the debate. It’s all got to start with one of two protesters.

I hope that in addition to Meiers countdown has on Madea Benjamin from code pink who has been banned from capital hill and put on a watch list that kept her from speaking in Canada. Arresting people for peaceful protesting has a quashing effect on future protesters and thus maintains the status quo. While I still go to marches I refuse to segregate myself in a pen with other protesters far away from the officials we are trying to reach. I also fail to understand how the capital police can issue a ban on anyone from excersizing thier right to free speech in the capital but that is exactly what they have done. James Madison is rolling over in his grave.

Believer and Scott henderson- All credible climate scientist agree global warming is happening and is caused by us. We can believe the scientists or we can believe the people funded by big oil it's our choice. If we listen to the scientists and they're wrong what we get is non polluting sources of energy and a whole new industry of renewable power sources and a middle east that becomes irrelevant because we don't need the oil. If we listen to the industry schills the oil industry continues to dictate our foreign policy pollution rates in general continue to rise leading to more cancers and lung disorders, but on the flip side we get to keep our SUVs. If the industry schills are wrong the planet becomes a place that favors not mammels but giant reptiles, because that is the last time there was this much carbon in the air, making humans if not completly extinct, irrelevant as a species on planet earth. We get to decide and if we don't do the right thing we probably don't deserve to live on the planet god put us on. I'm fairly certain god loves polar bears more than SUVs.

I don't have a thing to say about this string except that I sneaked out on Shuster the Rooster to catch a repeat of Anderson Cooper on THE COLBERT REPORT. I got a few things to say in defense of the Colbert candidacy.

I say illegal, shmillegal. I realize there's a law about corporate sponsorship, but heck, Comedy Central and Frito Lay don't have axes to grind with anybody. I wish myself Colbert would get sponsorships from Bud Lite and Gorton seafood (especially their beer battered shrimp). In fact, I'm thinking about moving to SC to see if they can't use a wonky old psychic in the campaign. Unless of course he sells out to big oil and/or Halliburton.

Another thing Colbert has going for him: quite simply he's cuter than all of them except maybe Mike Gravel. I have no problem whatsoever also with the idea of a REAL comedian in the WH; these jokers there now passed their sellby date back about 2001.

The difference between “Chinese Dishwasher” is that, as LT stated, he/she is illustrating the ignorance and blind support Larry-SC has given to George W. Bush; his relentless attacks on former President Bill Clinton and now Senator Hillary Clinton; all us “libruls” as he spells it and any elected official with a “D” after their name. In addition, he has called my daughters “terrorists from the Nard training camp in San Pedro” because their father is a Jordanian-born national. He has written such smut infinite times on this blog. He has also called my daughters and me worse!!

You state, “Or not, because he shares their world view so it's o.k.” No, again, this is not true. If I believed for a split second that “Chinese Dishwasher” was serious versus satirical, I would NOT condone his/her posts. However, he/she is attempting to demonstrate the maladjusted, narrow-minded, prejudiced and shameful behavior Larry has displayed here. While it is certainly hopeless with Larry; it could be extremely beneficial with others more open-minded. I’ve been blogging here for more than a year and a half, Larry’s been around since my “Day One”, and he will never change.

Have you ever watched Stephen Colbert’s “The Colbert Report”? If so, please understand that “Chinese Dishwasher”, just as Stephen Colbert does with the NeoNut pundits, presents Larry as the imbecile he is!!

I find it hillarious for some of you who think the world would be safer with Sadamm in power. The more he screwed with the U.S. and got away with it, the more chance he would have to be come more of a nuclear threat. To think he had no link to terrorism is laughable. Remember, he was the guy that had murals painted of the twin towers being attacked celebrating on the walls of hospitals. You people who think you know all of our military intelligence, you're extremely ignorant. You don't know squat! All I know, is our gov't has prevented another attack from happening. Remember, 9-11 was planned on slick Willie's watch. Sadaam had plenty of time to transfer WMD's between 1991 and 2003 into Syria?

I read your response, and I don’t take issue with that much of what you say. We seem to be generally in line on the worship issue. It sounds like you would agree that we don’t want anyone else imposing their morality on us. I agree with you that personal responsibility is a good thing, but again, I try not to impose my own standards on others.

I definitely disagree, however, that the “modern Jacobins” are the ones interested in religious repression. I see no evidence whatsoever for that and plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Yes, this world would be a safer place with Saddam in power. That would mean we were not wasting lives and money in Iraq and could concentrate on securing our ports and rail systems. It would mean we were not fostering a new generation of terrorists who would like nothing more that to wipe us off the face of the earth. It would mean we could use our resources to hunt down those who were actually responsible for the events of 9/11 and maybe cut the head off of that particular snake. It would mean that when disaster hits this country in the form of floods, fires and hurricanes the National Guard would be guarding the nation and not on their 4th tour in Iraq. It would mean there would be funds to repair our crumbling infrastructure, so you don't take your life in your hands crossing the river to get to work. We would be able to finally give the Coast Guard the money to replace ancient equipment. And we might even be able to funnel enough money into education, so that our children have all the tools they need to solve the problems we will be leaving them.
Safer with Saddam still in power? You bet. Now if we could just get the dictator out of the White House.

The world was a safer place when they were in power. They were only the most serious threat to their own countrymen. Saddam was a paper tiger and was contained in the north and south by no fly zones and and neighbors who had no tolerance for him, the true coalition from Gulf War 1. The blunder left the city without a central command center, which put Giuliani into the city’s media spotlight and was the major factor in cementing his image as the take-charge hero of 9/11 –HAH!! Giuliani recovery efforts came to a screeching halt once gold and silver had been recovered from WTC vaults. Giuliani never read 9/11 Commission's Report nor did he attend one meeting of the Iraq Study Group. Giuliani lacked preparedness before the attacks and ignored ongoing threats to New York City from Islamist terrorists in the preceding years. His handling of Ground Zero air quality has caused health effects of the air.

Giuliani has profited from the tragedy. Before September 11th, Giuliani was estimated to be worth a little less than $2 million, but his net worth grew by 30 times that amount since 9/11. In the past year alone, he has collected $11.4 million from speaking fees. Also, in June of 2007 a poll of New York voters revealed that Giuliani had less support in his home state than elsewhere and particularly that a majority of New York City voters disapproved of him!!

Why don't the television media ever mention the PNAC and their Rebuilding America's Defenses manifesto that set up the whole Iraq invasion scenario (as well as a plan for continuous wars) way back in the 1990s? Long before 9/11.

This war was a long-range plan, and it's going to continue with Iran. But, no one ever tells the American people (most of whom have not been informed of this) about how and why this mess we're in came about.

Go back to the beginning, and connect the dots, journalists. Otherwise, it looks as if you've all been bought off.
