Only by going after some of the contributors to the GOP will this ever stop.

We need to focus on working people and the retired and elderly people, whose finincial security has lessened during the Bush years and the Reagan years. OK...onto the matters at hand. Thankfully, GWB was in New Albany, IN today, a good 2-2 1/2 hours south of Indianapolis almost to the Kentucky border. It's a good thing because I just finished the purification and sterilization of my fair city after DICK's visit a couple of weeks ago.

To whomever was responsible for the caption "GOP Your Pants," loved it, loved it, LOVED IT! You all think Mayor Rudy, Mr. Kerik, et al are "GOP"ing their pants tonight? It almost sounds like a bad soap opera. All we need is an evil twin brother coming back from the dead, a poor lady with amnesia, and the bad organ music playing in the background.

Coffee is my alixer of life every day - especially these long days I've been "enjoying" at my job. But, for the love of whatever you hold holy, HOLD THE MONKEY SPIT!

From the data in your article, it is clear that the general trend since about 600 AD has been warming, with only brief periods of cooling, except for the Little Ice Age. The cause of the LIA is not clearly explained in the article (volcanic activity or sunspots, maybe?), but it apparently ended around 1850. This suggests we may still be recovering from that cooling period. In turn, this may explain why the average temperature is lower today than it was 1,000 years ago. But frankly, as I see it, even from your own evidence, except for the LIA, the overall trend appears to be up.

The Paris Hilton thing was unscrupulous. Even at the beginning of the piece, the story was that she was NOT involved in "saving" drunken elephants. Nevertheless, Olbermann spent three or four minutes talking AS IF she was; meanwhile, the video showed lots of Paris preening and primping and showing a bit of cleavage. Right?

I am no fan of Paris Hilton, and I am a fan of Keith Olbermann. I am appalled by this. Maybe the writers' strike allows this crud to make it onto the show?

Is this not what everybody chastizes bill O'Reilly for...finding a lame excuse to show cheesecake? Paris Hilton is a pathetic and stupid girl. You don't need to make up reasons to pillory her. She has given us plenty.

Olbermann should be ashamed of this.

Keith, 99.999% of us here at NewsHole understand and appreciate that "the big giant head" is the gift that keeps on giving. He makes it so darn easy; we know. His stunning eduation in history, his decrying of smut at the same time as asking about all the juicy details about naughty pictures, videos, etc. are well-established. You notice he never gets up from behind his desk during his show? There may be times he could run amok with the Brent Bozells of the world if we caught a glimpse of the front of his pants during one of those segments. We know this, we get it, and we understand. Having said this, you devoted 2 SEGMENTS to him tonight?! There are too many important things going on in our country and in our world today to devote that much time to a "man" who has continued to and will continue to admirably demonstrate what a hypocritical moron and boil on the butt of humanity he is. The beautifully articulate constitutional mind of Bruce Fein tonight was wasted on "he who shall not be named" when citizens need to be reminded of the trashing of the Constitution and our civil liberties that the current administration is inflicting on us and the complicity of the Congress that is allowing this trashing to continue out of fear of being portrayed as "soft" or "unpatriotic." What I say next is not to besmirch or downplay the feelings of people who participate here in NewsHole on a regular basis, but you will not find much more of a staunch loyal defender of you than I am. As you WELL know, Kucinich has been outspoken and consistent in his opposition to the war "from the beginning" and has voted against every funding bill. Additionally, virtually everything he stands for is what the majority of the American people want, but, because he's been marginalized, most people simply haven't heard of him. PULEEEEZE! I do think that if we change the paradigm on what can be done with Nuclear Waste, we could come up with better options then storage on site, or in the Yucca Mountain. If we got Scientist to study the problem with a mandate to find better options. I would like someone with a strong science background in radio activity to answer if there could be something possibilly better then the same old same old answer to this long term problem.

But regardless, Nuclear Power could remove over 2 Billion Metric Tons of man made CO2 if we would use it.

As for the person who started the rumor that Paris Hilton cares for something other than trampy clothes and photo ops--get a life. Elephant keggers? Can she even spell elephant?

As for me, I got a treat after that: Mike Rowe of DIRTY JOBS at an exotic animal refuge in GA. One of the exotic animals was a cougar. Sleek, playful, dangerous, standoffish when appropriate--yep, that's me.

I don't know. The Odd Couple intro was pretty funny, and "You may now kiss the bitch" was priceless. All I can say about the monkey spit coffee is that the ad that preceded it when I watched the clip online was for Dunkin Donuts coffee. Too funny.

And whoever was mentioning that their local FOX station was advertising their news during Countdown, I noticed it here. Didn't do much for me.

The pinot grigio ad that came shortly afterwards was more to my liking. Unfortunately, I couldn't act on it. Goes against my first Composition Program Director's advice not to grade papers if you're drunk, high, or feverish, even if the students seem to have been when they wrote the papers.

Also today, President Stupid signed an increase in the Pentagon’s budget, supposedly for “non-war” spending; however, oops, they might need to borrow some of that money for the so-called “war” in Iraq!! The man IS the devil, I’m convinced beyond ALL doubt!!

I agree with P. Wyeth, though that Ron Paul is not the only presidential candidate who opposed the war from the start. Dennis Kucinich actively opposed the war, the Patriot Act, etc. So did Russ Feingold, who unfortunately, gave up his candidacy very early.

Not only nice of Keith to mention that he misquoted a statistic, but he gave himself a WPITW mention to boot. I've never heard of one of those NeoConNutJob shills even correcting one of their numerous (on purpose) errors.

Hey Keith - when do we get the segment on the BushCo redefinition of "privacy" complete with Rachel Maddow? It was originally scheduled, then cancelled, on Monday. I expected to get it on tonight's show.

It says that MSNBC is often not available in all markets where Faux Made-Up News is freely available. 2 examples: military bases where Faux is always on and MSNBC not available and Comcast which has recently moved MSNBC to a premium digital channel and now charges extra for it. Of course this debacle is costing trillions of dollars. If people would just add up the figures it would help - <g> I want to know exactly how much of the money has been paid out to the "private contractors" and, I still believe our own military is capable of acting as security guards, and, why aren't the Army Corps of Engineers doing the re-building? And, why is there rebuilding going on while there are still bombs, (ied's even) going off in Iraq?
Why aren't the people of this country storming the White House and demanding a stop to this mess? Oh, yah - I rememberm there has been major blockades to access of 'visitors' or, demonstrators in and around 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

If you're going to put something in quotes, it should be a quote, not a bad guess. Alter's quote was "All these Republicans are on record supporting the war, except for Ron Paul."

Last time I checked, Kucinich is a Democrat.

There was no reference to "presidential candidates", although that seems to be what Alter meant. And there was no mention of opposing the war "from the beginning". I think you missed the word "Republican", and your emotions took over from there. But that can lead to Billo-style stupidity if you're not careful.

It pays to check your facts. The interview with Alter is on the Countdown website.

I turned on the "news show" called Countdown last night just to give it a shot and see the stories. With all of the important stories out there that need addressing, KeithO's continued obsession with Fox News and Bill O'Reilly is sickening. I had to turn it off, because you are not reporting news, nor are you discussing anything that is relevant to our world.

So last night's program is about, lets see, bringing down Rudy, check, bashing President Bush, check, making fun of Bill O'Reilly, check, stupid bimbo segment, check. If Rudy does not get the nomination, you will only have Bill O'Reilly and President Bush to discuss. Keep it up, and this show will no longer be relevant.

How about discussing stories of substance such as the ongoing dispute in Pakistan. Lay out the sides of the situation, bring in knowledgeable guests about how this will get resolved. Discuss the history of Pakistan.

How about discussing some of the successes in Iraq. You want to put down everyone on Veteran's Day, but never discuss any successes that our brave military men are having. Who really hates the troops? There is daily successes being reported. The military and the Iraqi people have gotten the upper hand on the violence. The Iraqi people opening up markets in Bagdad, and violence continues to go down. Iraqis, while there is still problems with governing, are starting to work together to take back their country and be self sufficient. Our military just announced that a brigade will be going home.

These are the stories that should be discussed. Your obsession with Fox, Rupert Murdoch, and Bill O'Reilly is nauseating.

Mark AZ: You keep spounting out these meaningless viewer statistics like they have some kind of significance. You obviously didn't study statistics in college, or you would know that the numbers are meaningless as you present them. I do a lot of travelling. It is not unusual to find that MSNBC is missing from the cable line-up in the towns that I visit, even in relatively large communities. But, in every po-dunk community with the lousiest of cable line-ups, the big head is always available for my viewing displeasure. I think your ratings numbers are simply a reflection of the saturation of the crud that is Faux News throughout the country, and the limited areas where MSNBC is offered. People regularly post on this thread about their dismay over not getting Keith on cable in their area. You never hear, on any thread, "Damn, Billo just ain't offered here!" Now, if you would compare the viewership between Keith and Billo in markets where they are both offered, THAT would be a legitimate statistic. Of course, you would have to factor in the people who watch Billo as comedy, too. I know that there's a lot of people who do that, and that would make your numbers argument even more useless.

It's a good start, opening the wire tapping investigation again. The DOJ needs some of Krista's "purification and sterilization" rituals, and a good stiff broom to clean up the mess that Gonzo and his cronies left behind. He also might need a stack of 'pink slips' to get rid of the "ideologically pure", but woefully unqualified hacks that have gotten in.

I wish him luck, and if he succeeds then we all need to apologize to "Chuck" and "Diane" -- obviously they both knew a secret and how to keep it.

David Molinaro- The same can be said about research and developement of renewable sources. Solar and wind power don't produce high level nuclear waste as there end product. I just don't see nuclear as our only option. For some reason Solar and wind have been written off by a lot of people as crunchy enviromentalists fantasies and they are not. They are real they are in use all over the world and I have no doubt that if we wanted to as a country we could come up with cheap clean renewable energy for us and the rest of the world. Also if we were to switch to nuclear tommorrow we would need 10,000 new nuclear power plants and they are not going to put one in my back yard. Again currently there is no place to store there waste, Yucca Moutain which was toted as the answer to this problem is never going to open and even if it did it could only hold a portion of the waste we already have stored in cooling ponds all over the country. Nuclear waste from power plants can be used to make dirty bombs it is also only one processing step away from being used in nuclear bombs. We should be getting rid of the stuff not making more of it and leaving it around for some lunatic to find.

I really don't have the knowledge of the movie you speak of to make any comment. I don't know the intent of the movie or the purpose behind producing the same. Would I go see it? Most likely not, and therefore could not really make a fair judgement about it. But I will say this. I have no desire to see a movie depicting US Soldiers raping and killing a young girl. I don't see the point other then to say that war is hell for all involved and we all know that. I don't agree with the timing and part of my independent right leaning side tells me the timing of the movie is for anti-war movement propaganda purposes (but I cannot validate that). I need no propaganda from either side to make a determination whether to agree with the Iraq invasion and police action or whether to oppose it. I have always opposed it. I have been an eye witness of many disturbing and cruel behaviors from both sides of a war when I served. I don't need to be reminded what war can do to a young soldier and that in war even the most level headed soldier can find themselves particpating in acts that they would never have dreamed of particpating in prior to entering into combat. I am also aware that the military is a smaller society of people that reflects the larger society. That there are going to be good people, bad people, law abiding people and criminals in both. My gut reaction is that the movie will be seen by military personnel regardless of anyone's politics as a slap in the face no matter the true intent of the movie. This comment may not be the outrage you seek but it does state how I feel. I am against this conflict but as a Vet I am against such a movie and the timing of the movie. That's all I can say for now.

Way off topic but it was so cool. Got to see a sneak preview of Beowulf in 3d on an Imax screen. Man, you can really see a persons nose hairs that way. Really though, it was a non stop visual feast. It was my first Imax experience and I was impressed! If any of you bloggers live in close proximity to an Imax, I highly recommend going. Anomaly, I'm thinkin' this movie might be right up your alley.

Actually, the O'Reilly story IS important. It is evident that some folks on this blog continue to watch and to believe that bilge that O'Reilly and the rest of the folks on Fox spew on a daily basis. Propaganda should be exposed for what it is. It has been a long time coming, but there is someone who is finally attempting to do so . . . that's one of the reasons Olbermann's ratings have been climbing very, very steadily for the past couple of years.

(I know O'Reilly has better ratings in all categories, but his ratings in the money demo are falling while Olbermann's are increasing . . . AND Fox is carried in more markets than MSNBC. There's also the entertainment factor . . . I watch it so that I can LAUGH out loud at the over-the-top stupidity shown on the programs.)

Yes. In fact, last week just after the emergency declaration by Musharraf, I posted the same thing. I also linked to the Dictator Directive that BushCo issed earlier this year, which is horrendous on it's face - and that's only the publicly issued part and not the classified part.

Reminder: BushCo has given himself the authority to declare an emergency for nearly any reason and to completely take power to himself. He's in charge of our military and his good buddy, Eric Prince owns a huge and heavily armed private militia (Blackwater).

Scott NV- The movie is based on a true story, the soldiers involved were prosecuted and are now in jail. I think that if a movie can make people understand what war is and what it does to soldiers it is worthwhile. The anti-war movement has unfairly been labeled anti-soldier. I believe the whole point of this particular film is to show the impossible situation we have put our troops in and the very human reactions they have to that situation. There really is no good time or place for such stories to be told, but somehow they need to be told. Ya know, war isn't all sunshine and lollypops.

I don't disagree that O'Reilly's propaganda needs to be exposed. But I think there is a difference between properly exposing the same and an apparent or perceived obsession with your subject. If Keith were to report on O'Reilly's propaganda once or even twice a week and professionally expose O'Reilly's lies and half-truths I see no problem with that. But reporting on O'Reilly almost every single night, and using that false voice like Limbaugh and Hannity do at times to try and micmic someone, goes beyond what should be exposed and how to expose it. We like to give Keith credit for his professionalism and reporting of the facts. But this perceived obssession with O'Reilly based on the amount of attention given the same, and the verbal tones and manner used by Keith to expose the propaganda, takes something away from that which you state should be done to properly expose O'Reilly. There are many other segments of Keiths show where his humor and variety of verbal tone deliveries is appropriate and appreciated. Like the man/dog marriage and Keiths exclamation, "now you can kiss the bitch". But if it is being perceived by many viewers that Keith is or has become obsessed with O'Reilly, beyond just exposing O'Reilly's propaganda, then it has whether true or not. Just my thoughts.

Scott, this "fictional" rape and the murder of the girl's family kept my son-in-law in Iraq for longer than his usual tour, because the Marines accused in that attack were part of the unit set to replace his. The entire unit is "put on hold" (I'm not familiar with the military term for this, although I'm sure it includes a lot of initials:) ) until the outcome of the trial of the Marines involved. So, what may be fictional to you is very real to two or three batallions of Marines, and the feelings of anger and disgrace that many feel (if my mailbox is any indication) over the recklessness and lack of control of their fellow Marines.

Well Jen our streak is over. We all know that war isn't all sunshine and lollypops. But Hollywood is only putting out movies that put ALL of our military in a bad light. There is a few bad apples that go over to the dark side, excuse the expression, and that may be caused by the stress of their job, or some other factor. But that is not Hollywood's intent. They don't show that part of the story.

How about filming a movie about a profile in courage from a story about one of our brave soldiers. This is not an anti war film, it is anti soldier. Everyone has a right to protest a war, and I have no problem with a peaceful protest. You state that antiwar activist are not anti soldier, but in a situation where an activist spits in the face of a veteran coming back from Vietnam, that is not anti-war, that is anti-soldier. Respect the soldiers, don''t stir up a non stop negative image of those that are putting their life on the line for our freedom.

If nothing else, privatizing Social Security will destroy it. The think tank 'paper', upon which the 'privatization' agenda was based, emphasized the goal of eliminating Social Security.

"Strict Constructionist" judges would rule against continuing social security because it's not one of the powers given to the federal government, and because they view it as unconstitutional.

Ron Paul, as a good Libertarian, views it as unconstitutional, and would move to have it eliminated.

The only thing preventing that from happening so far, is that most Americans are not rich enough to do without that safety net.

Other than that, larry, do your own research.

This is the bulk of O'Reilly's audience. The prior comment was also true that Fox has the edge in number of markets. I imagine, however, that in larger markets where the outlets are roughly equal, the ratings are pretty close. In the hinterlands, though, where people think the stock market is where you buy animals and constitutional is what you take in the morning when you shower, Billo I'm sure does quite well.

Second, your post shows how limited your knowledge of the ratings process is . . it is a complicated process which rates markets, demographics, etc. Overall numbers are not always relevant. Third, who gives a crap what the ratings are? As I said, I watch things I like and things which I find amusing. Most people do. I watch Olbermann for information and amusement and I watch O'Reilly for belly laughs.

BTW, did you ever pick up a dictionary? That horrible spelling of my little dog's breed . . . surely, an "educated" person like you, especially someone from Nevada, would know how to spell Chihuahua.

Kevin, Olbermann's show, just like all other shows on ALL cable networks are NOT news programs, they are opinion shows. While a little real news may be thrown in here and there, they are simply OPINION shows. I like Olbermann because of the format and because I agree with his opinions about the Fox propaganda machine, Iraq and this criminal administration.

For instance, Fox has defended Hannity's support and participation in Giuliani's campaign. Why? Because Hannity is not a "journalist," he is a "commentator" on an opinion show. See?

While it appears that the economy is doing well, salaries for the average individual have dropped over the last 6 years while hedge fund managers and other over paid execs are making more than 2,000 times their average employee and they pay an average of 15% in income taxes. The current economy is benefiting less than 1% of the total population. As stupid as you sound, you probably are "lower middle class" in income but you are just to stupid to realize that you are the very one getting the economic shaft! Goldwater ran on it in 1964.

Ronald Reagan started speaking out against it in 1964.

The Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute have written position papers about how to eliminate Social Security.

Dubya ran on it when he unsuccessfully ran for Congress from Texas.

Dubya went on a speaking tour in 2005 to destroy it, thank God that his numbers didn't add up.

Yes, there is time (the actual impeachment is 3 days)
With Bush vetoing everything crossing his desk Congress will not get through anyway so WHY NOT spend the time getting the TRUTH.
