I am a Republican, since Ronald Reagan, who is sick of what I'm seeing in this seemingly
self serving administration.

You nailed it right in the button regarding Bush and Cheney's Machiavelian
tendencies. I hope someone is looking at some more Machiavelian possibilities.

We started a wars on 'Terror', with Afghanistan and Iraq.
I was just wondering, did anyone in the administration, directly or indirectly, profit from this war
or pre-knowledge of it i.e. through investment companies making investments, esp before the war,
in defense contractors and/or other companies like ex. Hallibuton that would most certainly profit from a war,.

Also, look at our oil company biased energy policy. Who, besides the people in the
White House with oil industry backgrounds, stood and still stand to make loads
of money by sticking to oil as our predominant energy resource, and using whatever means
it takes, including war, to maintain our dependence on this lucrative, to them, form of energy?

I hope someone is looking at some of these coincidences and looking for and gathering evidence
on these possibilities so we can dethrone these 'crooks' and hopefully avoid, at least by them,
future self serving international conflicts and wars, not to mention harm caused
to us on our own soil.

I was one of the seven or eight people watching your show tonight, and I would like to suggest a few changes so that your show would be competitive with the home shopping network in this market.

First, your competition is too strong. The "O'Reilly Factor" is interesting because he sometimes talks with guests who disagree with him. "Countdown" is basically a forum for you to preach to the choir, unchallenged, for an hour. I would prefer to watch paint dry.

Second, your likely viewers are probably watching reruns of "Friends" in western PA at this time. I suggest moving "Countdown" to 9 pm, when liberals are more likely to watch your show than the less popular "Everybody Loves Raymond" reruns in this area. Another possibility is to run the show earlier, before bedtimes and crack houses compete for your fans' attention. O'Reilly fans will spend an hour watching a news and issues program. People who agree with your viewpoints generally don't spend their time this way.

Another idea is to use flash cards, which would enhance the enjoyment and comprehension of your likely supporters.

I hope you can salvage your show.

You sir, have every business...being president. Umm...see how the democratic republic system works is that the people eligible to vote sometimes do and then those votes are tallied in each state to represent to electoral college and the candidate with the majority of electoral college votes is then elected president. He may not be the greatest president we've ever had, I agree, but he was elected by the majority and so rightfully does have business of...being our president. If you don't like it you should perhaps resort to logic instead of rhetoric to attempt to make your points.

So, he clearly toned down his threatening talk after discovering that Iran has disbanded its nuclear program after 2003. I don't understand what is so wrong with this. He is talking about a country that at one point (not as much now but obviously still) is an enemy of our country. Their president has on numerous occasions made threats against our country. The comments made after the discovery of their halt in nuclear progress have been much more informed and not of the threatening nature. Equals, now he knows and is backing off from his earlier defiant stance. I do not see what is wrong with this in the slightest.

You soapbox pundits have the easiset jobs of all..sit in a Madison Av. office and bemoan the state of everything. Or is it on Lexington, I can never remember.

How about you do something meaningful instead of sit in a nice leather chair with the AC set to 60 drinking Johnny Walker Blue? Maybe like motivate the masses with actual logic instead of hyperbolye. I am not against you, far from it, but blog posts that make no sense do no good (Bush bad...Bush make comments years ago...Bush change comments in light of new info...ummm...Bush still bad). Maybe instead of writing or ranting, you should actually do something meaningful? Or would that take too much time out of your extremely busy day enjoying the benefits of our capatalist society?

As always, thank you Keith for a great Special Comment. There was a time when I put a little faith in this administration. In the beginning, even though I didn't like Bush when he was Governor of Texas, I didn't like the Bush family in general, I didn't like the way the outcome of the election of 2000 was accomplished, but since we had a new Commander-In-Chief, I kept an open mind. I don't know when that changed, but it did. In the years since, too much has happened. Too many scandals, too many lies, too many questionable reasons for what the administration did. Slowly taking away our civil liberties, changing the Consitution to meet their agendas. Just too many to list.

To have someone like Keith Olbermann, a common man really, who has the luxury of speaking his truth, much of our truth, is something I hold dear. He is my voice on many subjects. No one tells me what to believe. I am not an "Authoritarian" who believes what this government tells me is gospel, or for that matter, no one tells me what to believe. I have a mind of my own that works quit nicely, thank you very much.

If the 24% out there want to continue believing what this administration is telling you, then that is your right and your belief, and you're stuck with it. As for me, my hope is that someone will work hard to get our country back. Back to being strong, respected by the rest of the world, our Constitution in place, for this administration has done a despicable job for us, they totally forgot who they're working for.

The latest White House attempts at spin remind me alot of the 9/11 hearings. I seem to remember that Condoleeza Rice stating something to the effect that CIA warnings of elevated threats of terrorist activity against the US were not specific enough to be actionable---and therefore, it was not the administration's fault that they did nothing special after receiving the information prior to 9/11.

Now that we have clear information that the Bush administration has a propensity to push the U.S. into various wars in the middle east (even with false information), perhaps it is again ripe to look into the "why" behind the administration's reluctance to improve security measures prior to 9/11.

It is now clear that on more than one occasion the administration has attempted to fabricate "evidence" that the U.S. should be at war with either Iraq or Iran.

Murrow and the service his commentaries did the country in exposing government duplicity and corruption and worse and I am so thankful that Mr. Olbermann embodies his unflinching candor and courage for our time. The fact that Keith Olbermann and MSNBC can sleep at night after publicly insulting, demonizing, and attacking our President in such a vicious rant is, in and of itself, very disturbing indeed. Freedom of speech, dissent, disagreement among ourselves, as citizens, and as we are obligated to do, does not mean we can exercise those freedoms without harsh consequences when done so in such a vicious, despicable manner. The malicious words drown out any message and only the malicious words remain in the mind. If this is done for entertainment and ratings, should not a label be presented before the rant, such as for "cage fighting". In this case, the consequences are one more mean spirited media ranting into the homes of people in our world (friend or foe)to be heard by our families and our children about our leaders. One more nail in the coffin of civility. Frankly, after all the viciousness our family has witnessed on these "news" channels about ANYONE who serves in our government, who in the world in their right mind would EVER consider being President, Vice-President, or even janitor in a government job?! Who would subject themselves or their families to these attacks? One day soon, we may find our nation without public servants of any kind, it would be just too dangerous for them. I am appalled to realize that recently we have become a country that no longer speaks of "our" President, it's now "this" President, or "our government", it's "this Administration". Is it no wonder the effectiveness of "our" Congress has been destroyed because doing the "business of the people" can only now be done by "this" or "that" side of the isle "on their own" or it "fails"? As a direct result of the malicious tone of this " dissent and commentary", without actively "preserving" the dignity of the right to do so, Americans lose another chance to be united as a country. For all the good it will do, I have written to my Senators, McCain and Kyl asking them to honor the oath they took to defend the Constitution. I reminded them that this is not a monarchy, but a representative republic form of government which means that they are to represent the will of the majority. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments in this Special Comment, but disagree with the comparison of THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER to various post Civil War presidents. Grant upheld Reconstruction, and continued to fight for the freedman (as ex-slaves were called) long after the general public had lost interest. The price of Hayes' becoming president was the end of Reconstruction, but at least he had the decency to vow to serve only one term after his disputed election. Garfield was only an active president for 4 months, although after being shot he lingered for about 10 weeks before dying. Chester Arthur, let's not forget, was one of JFK's Profiles in Courage. For some reason, Keith left out William Henry Harrison.
The presidents from 1877-1900 were essentially passive during the re-subjugation of black citizens in the South. The president who really pushed Jim Crow was Wilson, who not coincidentally is a neocon hero.

Does anybody realize that the bigger problem here is that Iran is the LIAR!!! They have consistently stated that they are not pursuing a nuclear weapons program. Well, guess what? With all due respect Ms. Hawkins, are you serious?? After 7 years of being called "UnAmerican and Unpatriotic" by Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al, we, the sane people of America have had enough! The reason why the disaster that is Iraq has continued to happen is because our media "Watchdogs" stayed silent, for fear of being called UnAmerican. Now that even former staff members of this rotten administration are coming forward (too late to do any good really), you are upset because you feel Keith Olbermann disrespected the President??

The president has disrespected the American people by trampling on our Constitutionally guaranteed rights, feeding us false intelligence to wage war, enriching his cronies through contracts and postions in government (that they are woefully unqualified to fill), injecting religion into government programs in order to pander to his fundamentalist religious base, and ignoring the will of the people in more ways than I can list. Please open your eyes and ears and look around you, instead of defending an office or a political party. We The People are demanding change and it is our right to do so! Lastly, if you are so concerned about civility, write to Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and the rest of the NeoCon hatemongers, and ask them if they would care to stop calling anyone not a card-carrying Republican/NeoCon the vile names and innuendos they spew on a daily basis.

This president has been the most unilateral in generations, despite promising to be "a uniter, not a divider". Every attempt Bush has made at compromise, a phenomenon that only began 6 years into his reign, has been to say "this is what I will accept, so do it and we'll get along just fine." I thought the comment was pretty on target, but I will take issue with one minor point:

Grover Cleveland, our 22nd and 24th president, was actually not part of the post-Civil War, bungled-Reconstruction clump of mediocre, or downright corrupt Presidents (Grant) who were frontmen for utter corruption and ineptitude. He actually was quite a remarkable man and while not a horrible president, didn't have the most memorable administration(s).

He's mostly remembered for getting married in the White House, his daughter shares the name with the candy bar (Babe Ruth), and defying the Pullman Strike in 1894, angering labor unions in doing so, to keep the country moving following the Panic of 1893. He also angered his own party by supporting the Gold Standard and opposing free silver.

Could we say as much about our current cataclysm-in-chief? Standing up to members of his own party? Nay say?

Keep up the good solemnity of observation and truth-vetting, Keith!

I am an American, served in the U.S.Navy and I am a Vietnam Vet. My dad was severly wounded in WWII, left most of his stomach in North Africa, and my son was a Marine during Desert Storm.
So far we can all disagree publicly. Given the way things are going? How much longer will we all be able to do that?
For all those who doubt K.O. I would suggest they read some of the books being published about this administration or just check out the Internet. The info is out there, one just has to be concerned enough to look it up. If, after doing the research, the doubters still trust this administration?...Oh Well.
Questions for all the K.O. doubters;
1) Why did this administration find that it needed to do away with our system of checks and balances? Check out the Internet for'authoritarians'and'Imperial Presidency'.
2) Why do you think that this administration was ELECTED in 2000? This administration was appointed in 2000 by the conservative judges on the Supreme Court. Don't believe me, research it. (Hanky-panky in 2004 also.)
3) Why is the V.P. such a hawk? He applied for five, I repeat, five draft deferments during the Vietnam era and avoided serving his country. He's perfectly willing though to send our young people to Iraq to get killed. How many of our so-called representatives have children serving in the armed forces? Not very many.
4) Mr. Bush couldn't fulfill his Texas Air National Guard duties during Vietnam after his daddy jumped him to the head of the line. Yet he to has no hesitation to send sons and daughters of the 'non-rich' to Iraq. Why?
5) The Iraq war has been a goal of the conservatives
since the end of Bush I's term. Why?
Comment: Contrary to all of the campaign rhetoric, I do not feel that politics and religion should be mixed(separation of church and state). Look at the mess we're in now. How far will the people who do believe in mixing politics and religion take us in the future? Can you say'AMERICAN TALIBAN'? That's my own opinion and, so far, I have the right to state it.

Detroit also killed the electric car and sequestered the patents on efficient batteries.

Having voted for Republicans for president all my life, I made the break and crossed in 2004 after talking the measure of Bush 43. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. It's amazing that Bush 41 could have spawned such a misguided imbecile.

It was pretty clear in the leadup to the Iraq invasion that he, Cheney and the evil consortium were spoiling for war by manipulating reality for all it was worth. When I watched Colin Powell flog a third-rate sketch as a truck-mounted Iraqi chemical weapons lab to the UN Security Council, I had enough. If Powell could be corrupted, was anyone left?

As the war proceeded, the snake hunting news media dragged new lies from the Bush Administration's hole every time they dipped their hooks. And the latest, but certainly not the last, involves the false intel about purported nuclear weapons development in Iran. What's next? We won't to wait long, for sure.

It is why I believe, with more than a little regret, that we need a Democrat President and Congress next time. A lot of programs will be passed that will point our country in the wrong direction, but putting Democrats in complete control for a while is the only way to be sure of completely cleaning out the nest of vipers so deeply embedded throughout this nation's Executive Branch.

The only thing is, that without a clear suggestion as to what we, the people, and Mr. Olbermann, himself, can do about the cancerous menace on the heart and liver of America, to legally Impeach Mr's Bush and his fascist side-kick, Cheney, easily find them as guilty as Hitler and Goering were, then have Congress remove their menacing hides from power, then what is the use?

Keith, we need a little popular help from your hide, so we can save America's hide from complete descent into a nazi/fascist dictatorship was Germany quickly became. Please, Olbermann, take it and us to the next step.

I have one not so minor quibble, however. You present Grant in an unfair light. Grant's administration had some of the worst scandals in our history. And Reconstruction exacerbated the problems it was intended to solve. But Grant helped reunite and stabilize the US after the Civil War. Washington, Lincoln and FDR presided over the most difficult periods in US history. But the years of 1868-76 surely rate a close second as among the most challenging. The country was still divided, freed slaves had no working institutions or history, and huge portions of Southern states had been ruined by war. I recommend Grant's biography by Jean Edward Smith. A greater President may have fared better during those years. But you should not mention Grant and Bush in the same sentence.

21st Century sciences too are encouraging their own Albert Einsteins to provide the theoretical knowledge breakthroughs that will make their own WMDs possible, likely, and, yet another unbearable empirical sword hanging over mankind.

And unless I read human nature wrong, these new weapons will be designed, constructed, deployed, and, detonated.

Mr. Olberman: I just received your commentary from friends. Thank you, for saying what needs to be said. I don't understand the lack of outrage from the general public, but, then again, I live in an area where the economy is so bad, that people are struggling just to make ends meet; entering into a political battle seems overwhelming to many. So, what I'm asking: how about some thoughtful comments on what the AVERAGE, struggling American can do about these lies and deceptions and how can we fight to get our country back? People feel disenfranchised from the system due to the cheating and manipulation of the voting machines (no paper receipts for your votes??!! Numbers don't match up; etc. etc. etc.--so voting them out sometimes doesn't seem to be an option. WE also voted the DEMS in to get control of this insidious war; and they too are not forcing the issue; so how does voting help?). The bush (they don't deserve capital letters!)administration seems to control all the channels for us to fight them; can you address this deception, manipulation and control issue, and in another commentary (or several) give solid suggestions on what we can do?? I write letters; follow the blogs as much as time permits; but nothing seems to matter: the bush administration does not listen to the PEOPLE, nor care what we say, or what WE WANT in OUR government! GWB is not the type of leader who allows public opinion to sway what he believes is the right thing to do. That's why most of his speeches sound similiar in point and tone. You need to understand that.

Not everyone has an opinion on the war, the economy, immigration, health care or anything for that matter.
Many just go their merry way and live their lives day to day, generally unaware of presidential speeches or the news headlines of the day.

I have no animosity for our president but I see much of it on this Newshole blog, as much of what is written by liberal bloggers here and on other threads can easily be interpreted as animosity towards GWB, at the very least. Many libs continually name call. I will return the fire when it's necessary.

Many of my friends are libs. We talk all the time but when I ran acrossed this blog I found a defining difference in MY liberal friends and much of the regular "fringe" liberal element that at times dominates this blog. That's when I started referring to some bloggers here as spreading "liberal insanity."

You call me "a schoolyard bully who has been out-argued and can resort to nothing but name calling."
That's your opinion. I'm not a bully and don't feel I've been out-argued. But I will react strongly (at times) when I feel some lib crackpot just wants to argue just because I'm a conservative and he or she doesn't like it.

I don't like everything about GWB. I especially find him a real problem concerning border security and dislike some of his other policies. Abraham Lincoln said "you can't please all the people all the time," and if Romney, Huckabee, Hillary or Obama were elected in 2008, they'd have the same problem as Bush because their policies would not appeal to everyone, and sometimes even the masses.

This is running long but Bush, myself and anyone who has a brain knows that Iran will be a problem in the future. They've already subsidized terrorists that fight against us. They are not to be trusted. Other countries are in that same mix.

If you don't hear from me again, have a nice Christmas, and if that's not your bag, then just have a nice day on the 25th.

Thank you for your civil response. I would like to make something very clear, for the umpteenth time, which is to say I am an American before I am anything else. I certainly sway left of center, but what amazes me is how anyone can choose loyalty to the 'R' or even 'D' after someone's name, regardless of the harm they are doing to an entire nation.

I didn't agree with everything Clinton did as President either. NAFTA was a terrible idea that has had bad economic consequences for a lot of people. I recently told a clerk that if she could find me one thing that wasn't made in China, I didn't care what it was, I would buy it. Neither of us could find one single item in the store that didn't say Made in China.

I would hope that we could all agree that there are a lot of things that need changing.. Having an inflexible leader who has run out of things to say, because he has already made up his mind is not the way to go.

First off, I would like to thank KO for being the only true journalist left on T.V. however, the fall of news journalism is a topic for a different time.
My question is this, and it is a simple one at that: What has happened to this country when truth is nothing more than whoever can win the great battle of spin?

The Bush administrations has been one of the best "spinners" in the history of our country, and for six years we all sat back and ate it up. Today we begin to ask the tough questions and what happens... stonewalling. The worst part of this scenario isn't the continuing lies by this administration; it is the willingness as a public to accept them as part of the "political game."

When are we going to stand up and say enough? What's wrong with honesty? I believe people are too afraid to acknowledge the complete dishonesty that has occurred for the past six years. It's like the abused wife who keeps making excuses for the abuser. We continue to make excuses in order to make ourselves numb to the fact that we have been duped.

Anyone who questions KO should look in the mirror and question themselves; are you so willing to keep drinking the koolade this administration has fed us? If so don't watch KO because he's tired, I'm tired, and hopefully the rest of this fine nation is tired of drinking the koolade. We are tired of being taken advantage of. If you don't believe KO just look online. Try venturing outside of the five websites you frequent and broaden your horizon because the evidence is out there, we just need more people like KO to dig it up.

I realize that not only the right wing, but some of those who like to think of themselves as moderates are upset by the tone of Mr. Olbermann’s Comments, and in this respect the tone may cause some backlash against the message. Nevertheless, KO is giving voice and vent to the incredible frustration and anger that has built up in liberals, progressives and some moderates, not just over the last 7 years, but since the Reagan administration. When I see more and more examples of the scofflaw Republican administration and party defying laws, conventions, reason, decency, ethics, and morality there are times that I want to scream and curse. The extraordinary selfishness, arrogance, self-righteousness, dishonesty and lack of humanity of Republicans these days is infuriating, and the extent to which they have been able to control the media and the message over the last three decades is truly frightening.
Where are the spirits of Jefferson and the other Founding Fathers? Where in the media do we see the anger and indignation of 70% of our citizenry who now appear to be getting the idea of how close to a corporate plutocracy we are getting? Why aren’t all sane and moral people rising up and shouting their anger?

Our so-called Congress was elected by us, right? (Guess that doesn't make us the brightest bulbs in the store.) Anywho...what would happen if a few hundred thousand people sent an email to each and every Senator and Representative that went like this;
"Dear Senator(or)Representative whoever/whomever?.
My name is ........and I am an AMERICAN, a citizen, the person you either forgot about or don't care about. Due to your representation of your wealthy friends, the Mega-Corporations and your other 'special interests', instead of me, I regret to inform you that YOU ARE FIRED."
We then all email our individual governors and have them fill the newly vacant seats in Congress. Anyone have an idea about how long we give the new people to straighten out the existing mess? I haven't a clue. If the new people don't get America back on track we fire them AND the governors and start again.
The beauty of this idea? We're so screwed up now... What could it hurt?
NOTE: I didn't include Bush and Cheney because we didn't ELECT them, they were appointed by the Supreme Court.

I watched the Keith O. show again tonight, as usual. I also made it a point to watch his guest appearance on the PBS 'Bill Moyers' Journal show at 9pm. I have no idea if any of the rest of you out there caught it, but it was a very good segment(in my opinion anyway). I will repeat something that someone else has already commented on..."Thank you very much Keith for being the voice of/for people, like myself, who feel that this country is in really big trouble."
I do wonder what Keith thinks of this new bill being pushed by Senator Susan Collins of Maine. (It's already gone through the Senate.) It's S.1959: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. Would blogs such as this and commentors such as myself become illegal under that act? Just a thought, seeing as how our U.S.Constitution appears to have been superseded by the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act of 2006 and Mr. Bush's signing statements. Re: S.1959 - I honestly had no idea that, as SEC.899B(3) states 'The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens'. Are they saying that all of US are now terrorists and what we thought was disagreeing with a bad government has become propaganda? I guess that the plug is going to have to be pulled on the Internet, or Guantanemo is going to have to get a heck of a lot bigger to hold us all. In this supposed war on terrorism one would think that a priority would be to close off the southern border and monitor the northern much more closely. The direct opposite is the truth. This is much in defiance of logical thinking. It stands as more proof that this criminal administration with Cheney at the helm has cheap labor and corporate profits as its main concerne. With Cheney vested in Haliburton and who knows what other avenues of the military industrial complex nothing is going to change. They have got the ball rolling and Iran was going to be next and still may be. Mothers should stop and think about this, how else would we fill the ranks of the military but the draft. We have the idiot in-chief doing his part for his oil brethern, a high price for oil has american oil producers patting little Georgie on the back . He's lost that confident smirk on his face but you can be assured he's wearing it behind closed doors with his oil budies. This war for profits is not his undoing. Sure it's the undoing of his political leggacy but in the end little Georgie will prosper. What a crying shame when millions of americans are loosing thier houses and millions more will be dressing a length of bologna to look like a turkey dinner for Christmass. American oil is reaping record profits at a time when the backs of average Americans is being broken. The media is letting us down, all but one brave soul , Keith Olberman. Please American people do right by Mr. Olberman and yourselves, react.
We hear nothing about Enron today , Bushes largest contributer, they were investing in a natural gas pipeline in the middle east. They ripped off this American public with little Georgies blessing. Help wipe that smirk off the idiots face. Help leave him a leggacy that will make YOU proud, help to bring back the pride every american should have in this once great country.
